Transgender Woman who Tried to Turn Herself Into a Man After Rejection by Mother Kills Herself

This is a sick, sad story. And another reminder that there is nothing cute about some couple dressing up their son as a girl and newspapers talking about him as a transgender girl. Or vice versa.

It’s child abuse.

And adults who seek to mutilate themselves are dealing with their own psychological traumas. Often rooted in children.

The story of Nancy Verhelst is the story of the failure of modern Western civilization. It begins with a liberal society providing deformative “transgender” surgery and ends with the society providing euthanasia.

It’s a horrifying view of what we have become and what we are becoming. There are horrors here on par with anything in the Middle Ages.

“I was the girl that nobody wanted,” Nancy Verhelst told Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper in the hours before her death.

“While my brothers were celebrated, I got a storage room above the garage as a bedroom. ‘If only you had been a boy’, my mother complained. I was tolerated, nothing more.”

Nancy Verhelst had hormone therapy in 2009, followed by a mastectomy and surgery to construct a penis in 2012. But “none of these operations worked as desired”.

“I was ready to celebrate my new birth,” she told the newspaper. “But when I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted with myself. My new breasts did not match my expectations and my new penis had symptoms of rejection. I do not want to be… a monster. “

What we’re dealing with here of course is perception. Like the anorexic or the bulimic, this is a case of someone with a distorted self-image as a result of psychological dysfunction.

Nancy was rejected by her mother. Instead of dealing with that problem, the establishment instead perversely decided to address the lack of a mother’s love by mutilating a grown woman into some warped creature that would only loosely resemble a man, but could never be a man, to meet the wishes of a mother who hated her.

And when Nancy continued suffering. There was another solution. Death.

Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst, 44, was given legal euthanasia, most likely by lethal injection, on the grounds of “unbearable psychological suffering” on Monday afternoon.

Wim Distelmans, a cancer specialist who carried out the euthanasia, is the same doctor who late last year gave lethal injections to congenitally deaf twins who were frightened they were also going blind.

“The choice of Nathan Verhelst has nothing to do with fatigue of life,” said Dr Distelmans. “There are other factors that meant he was in a situation with incurable, unbearable suffering. Unbearable suffering for euthanasia can be both physical and psychological.

This is what we have become. This is the nightmare that our societies are turning into. This is our Brave New World.

This gives the lie to people who are LGBT, because of genetics. I agree that it might be the cause for some. The LGBT groups do not want the causes looked into any further much as American Indians do not want an archeology into the origins of the 1st people in the Americas.

The American Indians want all ancient skeletons form any pre-historical period reburied as soon as possible without any DNA analysis.

Like wise a deaf associations protest or sued to prevent parents of deaf babies/children from getting surgery so that they can hear. Are these deaf people concerned for the child or that their subculture may die out if all kids are cured of deafness in the future?

Nancy Verhelst is an acceptable casualty for the more radical members in the LGBT groups. They would rather their numbers be large than for people to be cured.

  • jakespoon

A tortured soul. A shame society enables this mental illness by calling it “normal”. This lady needed psychological help, not surgery.

  • objectivefactsmatter

  • motherofbeaver

When these Dr. Frankensteins try to play G-d it only leads to unspeakable suffering. What a tragic story.

Nature used to get rid of it’s mistakes but now liberals tell these things they are normal….

    • A J

A child is a blessing as Michael Medved & other say.

Even at 44 this woman could have led a fulfilling life. It would have been more challenging but it could have been done. She could have been a nun, written a book or many other things that would have given worth to her life.

It is too bad she did not grow up loved, met someone nice, got married and had children. But there are lots of good people who can’t have children (15% or less). They can’t have children and yet they are human, their lives have worth. The same could be said for Nancy.

Liberal B S, and you wonder why -IT- was messed up…..

        • A J

HER mother and liberals messed HER up.

She died because she did not have a support network.

          Mother Nyet
          Father Nein
          Brother Nao
          Pastor ?
Psychologists/Medical Doctors : She needed a life ring and they threw her an anchor because of liberal dogma.

  • Paula Douglas

This is a tragic, horrible story, but what is this “we” crap? The woman’s mother was obviously a sadistic monster. How about putting the blame there, where it belongs? Secondary blame should go to the medical “professionals” who saw this woman and didn’t help her get the psychotherapy she needed. Finally, there’s an element of free will involved for anyone who isn’t legally incompetent, and at some point every adult has to take responsibility for his mental health and at least ask for help. It’s never easy, quick, or painless, but look at the alternatives: self-murder or a lifetime of misery because you’re still letting the warped values of a sicko rule your life. There are a lot of mistakes and failures involved with this sad story, but I don’t see a “we” that should get the blame.

    • scook84

Too true! We are the captain of our ship and the master of our fate. <3 Muah!

    • HW

Going to the medical professionals on issues of gender and one is more that 50% likely to end up worse.

‘theory of Gender Neutrality’—that gender identity developed primarily as a result of social learning from early childhood and that it could be changed with the appropriate behavioral interventions.

In 2000, David and his twin brother (Brian) alleged that Dr. Money had taken numerous naked photos of the twins during their treatment and had forced them to engage in “sexual play” at age 7. In 2002, David’s twin brother was found dead from an overdose of the drugs used to treat his schizophrenia.

Privately, Money was mortified by the case, colleagues said, and as a rule did not discuss it. Money’s own views also developed and changed over the years

Theres is hope. views are changing. When a person goes to a doctor or a car mechanic they have to do some homework themselves. Trust your common sense and not go with the latest “dish” on what is the best theory

  • Jsjk

But is this a case of “suicide” or a physician-assisted killing? To what extent was she encouraged to end her life? What kind of society finds killing the psychologically vulnerable a “good thing?”

  • UCSPanther

The sad story of David Reimer comes to mind:

Humans were not meant to be hermadaphrites or creatures who could switch our genders at any given time. To do so goes against nature, and the natural order does not take kindly to defiance.

    • scook84

A truly sad commentary on so-called professionals using children to “prove” their ideas are valid and therapeutic. Both children are gone now. I suspect Dr. Money had issues of his own that needed to be dealt with. <3 Muah!

      • UCSPanther

I read the wikipedia article on “Dr” John Money and it had me raging by the time I was done.

A very evil man in my books. Zero ethics, had no problem with pedophilia (Try telling that to people who suffered incest at the hands of their parents in childhood) and was willing to inflict horrific psychological damage on people like Mr Reimer and his brother in an effort to prove his warped theories on gender.

There’s a special place in hell for people like “Dr” Money…

    • Queered Theory

You cannot try new drugs without testing in the lab on cell cultures and on volunteers under the concept of “Do no harm”

And yet Dr (?) John Money conducted experiments on children using his authority as an adult, a professional (psychologist) and that given to him by the custodial parents?

Of course these Dr Money was doing this at the same time the American Psychological Association was redefining LGBT as a non issue in 1973.

“Money was a prominent proponent of the ‘theory of Gender Neutrality’—that gender identity developed primarily as a result of social learning from early childhood and that it could be changed with the appropriate behavioral interventions.”

  • Jakareh

Sickening. When I read about things like this I understand why modern Western society won’t repel the ongoing Muslim invasion when our ancestors–without having our edge in military strength–did so without hesitation.

  • Indi Edwards Roughsedge

this article is so so transphobic and the comments are completely uninformed. I and thousands of people I know are well adjusted contributing, functioning and happy post operative trans people. People will milk every last drop out of this story to find any excuse to discriminate and or throw pity parties for us trans and intersex people but the truth is most of us are very happy with the medical interventions we have endured to live “normal” lives. Educate yourselves.

    • unionville

I wish your side in this debate would dispense with the phobic/phobia terminology every time someone disagrees with you. If you want to mutilate the bodies you were born with because you psychologically feel you should be the opposite sex, and you can make that change on your own dime, than have at it. This story is tragic. From this poor girls treatment from her mother to being put to death like a dog. That you have nothing to say about that shows you lack empathy. If we lived in a society that still had common sense this girl would have gotten the psychological help she so needed. Instead she got unnecessary surgery from a compliant society that doesn’t seem to have the will any more to make sound judgments.

    • Paula Douglas

I don’t feel pity for you. I don’t have much of an opinion on sex changes one way or the other. I feel sorry for the woman cited in the article, whose mother messed her up beyond her ability to recover. She was obviously seeking the sex change operation out of desperation and an irrational desire to win her mother’s approval: irrational because it could not possibly succeed, and because anyone whose approval must be bought at such a price is by definition unhinged and therefore unworthy of the effort. Not everyone who has sex reassignment surgery does it out of a pathology of some kind, but this woman did, and it was obviously not what she needed. What she needed was for the doctors she encountered along the way to steer her into treatment so she could reach a healthier psychological state. Any objective observer would have told her that the surgery wouldn’t meet her goal, and any compassionate, responsible surgeon would have refused to perform it.

    • CowboyUp

“transphobic?” Now that’s funny! Where’s the fear, rational, or otherwise? I see a lot of pity and disgust, but no fear.

      • TruckinMack

Cowboy – Liberals routinely substitute name calling for discussion. Also, disagreeing with Libs about the root cause of homosexuality means you fear homosexuality. And, of course, Libs are always rude and offensive. It’s their go to response. Liberals and their politics of tolerance are like the Muslims and their religion of peace – which is to say, ‘not’.

        • CowboyUp

If you disagree with them about anything it’s because you’re phobic, a ‘hater,’ a racist, or whatever. It can’t be that you just disagree.

      • laura

“transphobic”- the new phobia. i cant wait for this to go mainstream. @least we wont have to hear about islamophobic. its all so boring, right?

        • Softly Bob

The only made-up name that I agree with is the term ‘Leftistphobic’. These are one set of people that I genuinely have fear of. They’re all barking mad, untrustworthy, seditious and completely perverted.

    • cacslewisfan

I don’t see as much “transphobia” in the article as I do the exposure of the total failure of the medical community to do due diligence in screening for the appropriateness of the surgery. They did not prepare Verhelst for how she would look. And, worst of all, the “solution” for her psychological anguish was euthanasia. According to the article, Nancy Verhelst was never cherished in mind, body, or spirit by anyone. We aren’t told her medical history, only it’s tragic outcome. As a healthcare professional, I find euthanasia absolutely appalling. If gender reassignment was performed according to policy, then there are serious problems in this system. I’m glad you are healthy and happy. God bless.

      • Arnold

        Watcha talking about Willis?

The multiple medical interventions were a success.

        The patient is dead.

    • DR

      Educate yourselves.

We did and what you said makes no sense.

    • Obsid

Educate yourself. I have theories on why people have gender dysphoria that are testable. You have very little . Otherwise you would have posted it.

The theories of some of the causes of gender dysphoria come from stories like Nancy Verhelst and David Reimer. There are 700,000 confused people. Your worst enemy or best hope is a national database tracking all people though time and seeing what socio-psychological forces are on them. The results will not be pretty for your theories. Of course I take that back because of the Heisenberg Uncertainty principle. the mere act of collect the data will skew things.

It is way beyond time for pity parties or any other accusation you might want to throw at others to see if it will stick. It is time for a divorce.

We can live on our own. I am not sure if you could live on your own. at best you could hope is is a 2nd or 3rd generation “Oneida Community” solution. but that would be admitting you were wrong and delusional.

    • Softly Bob

Educate yourself, lady! This was clearly a case of misdiagnosed gender disorder. Did you not read the article? The mother hated girls and wanted a boy. This is clearly where the psychiatric disorder came form. Kind of proves that LGBT theories are wrong doesn’t it?

Despite this, you have the nerve to come here and write your tripe. You should be ashamed of yourself. Tell me, are you a lesbian by chance? If that is you in your avatar, you certainly look like one!

    • gtmancan

Hi Indi. I understand you are 100% convinced that you are “transgendered” and now you are happy with your new identity. However, I would like to know how you know that “thousands of poster operative trans people are well adjusted? Also, you and many others want us to accept your psychological issues as biological but you were born either male or female and their is no mistake in gender birth no matter how much you try to prove this. Gender birth and sexual identity is determined and proven the moment you are formed. You have all the DNA, reproductive organs, penis or vagina, female or male physical characteristics which number in the dozens of proofs of normalcy. This is all physical evidence of normality and a gender identity that is not a “mistake”. Am I clear? If I am born a man and have all the physical attributes of a man I am not a woman because my mind tells me I’m a woman. Why can’t your mind be wrong and not the physical evidence of your body? You underestimate the power of the human mind to deceive itself.

    • Paardestaart

Hm, has there even been serious research done about post operative transgenders?
You have no call to be so very condescending mrs. Roughedges; pedofilia too has been declared a variable of acceptable human sexuality up until very recently, so it is not as if social scientists are as dependable and unbiased as they should be.
But of course you know this better than us uneducated yokels, being so very well informed about post operative transgenders??

  • Naresh Krishnamoorti

Daniel, I really wish you would read Henry Adams’ book “Mont-Saint-Michel to Chartres” and stop comparing modern barbarism with the Middle Ages, parts of which were the most enlightened periods of human history.

    • A Z

Got the book on my list to red now.

  • Adelaida

This article is transphobic as hell, it manipulates a very unique and sad truth, Nancy’s Verhelst truth just to make people believe that the 20,000,000+ of trans people all over the world are wrong. The failure of western civilization isn’t by any means trans people, that failure is caused by the lies some fearful individuals try to inject to reality. This kind of journalists are a sad shame for this world.

    • Ada

Nancy was not trans. She tried to transition and failed. She was not part of your subculture. At this point your interest is protecting your subculture and you claim her solely to inflate your numbers.

David Reimer, Nancy Verhelst and so many others show us what a significant number of people who get sex changes or trans are suffering from.

This is the way the game is played 21st you say these are exceptions, anecdotal evidence. Then we get statistics from longitudinal studies to prove. We argue for several years but the studies well inevitably tell. Then you subculture gets smaller and smaller and disappears.

Think of the world as a prison. We know what goes on in prison. It is crowded, people are upset and aggressive, they have needs that are not met. Not all the friction is relieved thru physical or violence. we know what “compromises” are made.

In the wider world we have competition for everything, resources, affection and more. We call it the rat race. It is not hard to see why there are trans people. Not hard at all.

  • TruckinMack

I Googled Nancy’s name, and promptly found a story where her mother verifies that she was unwanted as a child and mom feels no loss for the daughter now that she is dead.

What profound and utter sadness. I’m at a complete loss for understanding Nancy’s mother. My only guess is that Mom was a train wreck her whole life, and then, very sadly, passed this disturbed psyche onto her daughter. (I cannot find out anything about Nancy’s father.)

As for what can be done about it? Little or nothing. Some (many?) parents are unfit to be parents. Don’t write new laws. Don’t try to dictate who is allowed to parent and who isn’t. Just accept that sometimes utter sadness happens and we have to live with it… and pray.

    • Born to War?

“where her mother verifies that she was unwanted as a child and mom feels no loss for the daughter now that she is dead.”

      I am shocked.

In the mothers defense maybe this is rationalizing like people do with “Sour Grapes”. Maybe if the mother admitted that she had acted poorly and that she was sad, she would be too distraught to continue living herself so she comes up with the fiction that she does not care.

Part of it is societal. It varies from individual to individual or family to family. It is not so bad overall that I want to listen to the fracking feminists about how bad we are. They are our NEW CHURCH LADIES.
Since WW2 at least in America there has been a concept of the nuclear family with parents having a son and a daughter. Did not this family get the memo?

Is this mother wanting to birth a stick, a section a platoon or a war party? You have to wonder.

If it is so then there is no use for humanity to be alive.

  • poetcomic1

Post operative transgenders have dysfunctions THROUGH THE ROOF. Suicide, serious depression, violence, drug use, anti-social behavior of every sort.

  • Right Consultants?

A rabbi, minister or a priest could have done a better job than the medical doctors and psychologists.

They could have done a better job even in this last year.

I sometimes worry that psychiatrists will replace rabbis, ministers and priests, when we have a road map from physics to chemistry to biology to neurobiology.

But at this rate there are no worries.

Besides the Jewish religious concept about how 2 contradictory things could both be true is way ahead of the social scientists. They might now be just catching up. I certainly did not understand it at the time, when it was explained to me. But I see it in physics and the debates of nurture versus nature.

I wish I knew the name of that concept.

  • Christina Hare

It is impossible to diagnose this person basd on the scant and clearly bias infomation in this opinion piece. What seems to be clear is that this person was suffering from accute depression that seems to have been attributed to the mother. I’m not convinced this was infact the case. However, nomatter if it was or not you cannot draw large conclusions of the entire transsexual population based on a single case. And shame on you for trying!

    • 15 not 5

When a person commits suicide like one of the children of the founder of The Family International (FI) or Nancy Verhelst

Pawn it off as acute stress. It is a red herring and you know it. Verily, you know it. I watched the documentary made by the founder’s son. He like Nancy was undergoing chronic stress. People can cope with acute stress better than chronic stress. Between his narration and what we know of the FI, we know what kiIIed him. The same goes for Nancy.

Nancy’s stress did peak due to the sex change operation, but in and of itself it might not have been sufficient for her to commit suicide. But you should not be all worked up. the LSM is looking at this strictly from the euthanasia angle. The LSM is lying and covering for you. So you are safe.

But there is a danger. If they restrict euthanasia, then people like Nancy might become Ex-Trans or ex whatever, which would be a threat to your subculture. Seeing how gays treat ex gays we know how well you will deal with this threat.

So your best option is to jump into the euthanasia debate with both feet and demand no restrictions.

      • Christina Hare

I don’t feel threatened in any case. You don’t know as much as you think you do. Keep jumpin to wrong conclusions and deluding youself with conspiracy theories, I’m sure it does wonders for your own health.

This person described himself as a monster. While you might agree with his description, I don’t and I don’t believe most transexuals or anyone else that has undergone plastic surgery inluding cancer survivors and people having preventative surgery would. That means this person was depressed for reasons not related to the sex change or GID. Some people are prone to severe depression for purely congenital reasons.

But please continue to hold up this example as a reason to not provide treatment to those suffering from GID as you seem so eager to do. It doesn’t threaten me personally in any way. It demonstrates not just your lack of compassion and understanding but also your need to demonize others to make youself feel better about your own inadequacies.

        • Paardestaart

Excuse me Miss Hare: you are mistaken: this woman was not a transsexual. She was a typical woman who was made to believe that she was the wrong sex and would be loved only if she changed who she was. Like I said: typically female behavior..
Seems to me the bell wasn’t even tolling for you this time..
Remains my question: how do we know what fate befell those “thousands of post-operative transgenders”???
I’ve always wondered, after listening to the gushing stories about fulfilling normal lives..

    • Paardestaart

Clearly biased? How do you know that it is biased?

  • Ada

Nancy was not trans. She tried to transition and failed. She was not part of your subculture. At this point your interest is protecting your subculture and you claim her solely to inflate your numbers.

  • Ephirius

    The failure is this:

Psychological problem becomes normalized. Normalized becomes protected. The problem remains, but it masked by buffoons like you who use idiotic terms like “transphobic” when you mean to say “people who think transexualism is a mental disorder”.

Just because the APA changes their definition of what a mental disorder is (as they did, at the behest of protests in the 1960′s with homosexuality) doesn’t suddenly mean that reality changes to fit.

So, keep telling everyone who has a mental illness that mental illnesses don’t exist. Keep telling people who make mistakes that mistakes don’t exist (except those of us “-phobes”). And keep being wrong. Western Civilization will end because it no longer believes there is anything right or anything wrong in the world.

  • Christina Hare

So why doesn’t this happen much more frequently?

    • Paardestaart

Who knows what happens to post-operative transgenders??
      Are their lives even monitored?

  • Paardestaart

Well, a lot of people didn’t have issues with pedofilia in those days; it was seen as just another variable of normal human sexualtiy. Our guru Kinsey was a pedofile too, and we take most everything we believe about human sexuality on cue from him..

  • paula

speaking from a physicist perspective but I do believe in God there is a reason for all this because of people can’t stop being greedy about things in life . you cannot change the future of biology most humans or change in weather you can think about it or not .humans are going to change whether or not your beliefs so stop trying to fight it go along with it and try not to be greedy the reason for the humans to become transgender is because overpopulation and because we don’t have the knowledge to filter the water that is going back into are rivers and lakes there is too much estrogen in the water that they cannot filter out so therefore there will be more transgenders there is several people doing studies on this there are frogs that are transgender now because of this effect there will also be more intersex people because of these effects but nature always has a way to fight back so stop trying to fight it and just go with the flow you can’t stop it there is nothing wrong with a transgender people it is part of nature …
try to remember also that religion is a business just like any other business it is about staying in business and how to get more customers and it will change think about the business of the Catholic religion the Pope is going to change that gays and transgenders are going to go to church there is nothing wrong about it if you don’t like gay marriage don’t worry you don’t have to marry gay if you don’t want to ..
