You are deluded on every point BJ. You have no idea of my work or my achievements, but I assure you that 1) nothing has been handed me, and that 2) in the world I inhabit my accomplishments are well known and respected. Moreover, when I said that the historians I recommend "do their own research and writing," I meant 1) unlike Limbaugh etc., they research and write their own books rather than rely on corporate publishing teams to manufacture something with their name on it; 2) they have truly added to our knowledge of US history, unlike the dumb bell authors you favor who simply recycle right wing platitudes and self-serving lies.

Finally, looking over this overlong exchange of courtesies, I realize I've been wasting my time arguing with a low information dupe of Fox and Friends, a blithering old fart who is desperate to shore up his tottering belief system. Rave on. Knock yourself out. I won't waste another minute responding to your drivel.

I am "projecting (my)self onto you"? Oh, PLEASE, Harry...you outline yourself exquisitely simply by your writing. I am simply reading what you write! You want to castigate me for not commenting on your recommendation on the work of "historians " (??) who "do their own research and writing"? When one's "research" is limited to what is found at the bottom of outhouses how could anyone conclude that the findings are anything but various compositions of excrement? You can make any "claim" you want about your life experiences but what you worship is, in the end, the result of what you experience and you very clearly have experienced is the result of a life where everything you have has been given to you without any effort on your own part.
We all have our own sense of "moral superiority" derived from the experiences we have had our whole life. You worship indulgence without effort, subsistence without effort, likely because of the inflated sense of your superiority because you exist, but nothing else.

You seem to be projecting yourself onto me since your latest screed is nothing but ad hominem abuse from someone who knows absolutely nothing about who I am or what I have done with my life. (As it happens I've earned my own way since the age of seventeen and paid income tax for over 50 years.) Moreover, you project onto the Founders your own inflated sense of moral superiority. You write about "the emphasis the Founders placed on self-reliance and taking care of yourself and your responsibilities"--as if the Founders were concerned about such issues as welfare, social security, Medicare, and food stamps. You are stuck in the right wing echo chamber, learning history from media dunces (Levin, Rush, Hannity, et al.), revering Palin, an ignoramus who has never read a newspaper and never cracked a book. Since you don't even comment on my recommendation that you read the work of historians who do their own research and writing, it's clear you are trapped in conservatism's fairytale view of the American past. (I bet you're one of those beer bellied Tea Party a-holes who like to parade around in a three-cornered hat.) The liberal future may be awful to contemplate, but it's nothing compared to what your lame-brained heroes would do to America if they had a chance, which, thankfully, given current demographic trends and despite all the money the Kochs and their corporate vulture friends are pouring into the Tea Party, they very likely won't have.

Poor, poor Harry! The amount of exposure you provide to the fact that you have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about is profound to the point of severe mental unbalance. You have never acknowledged any of the emphasis the Founders placed on self-reliance and taking care of yourself and your responsibilities. This is likely because you have lived on the dole for a very long time, as though you fear being born into a world populated by mature, self-actuating adults. Mom must be providing quite a coddled existence for you down in her basement, as well as several Liberal-oriented governments you've found to supplement the leeching you've become addictively accustomed to. Look how you perform for them! They snap their fingers and you disgorge the most laughably outrageous bile I have ever read from one of their automatons.
You never bother to comment intelligently on anything my heroes have said or written or refute any of their arguments with logical ones of your own. You are a one-trick pony (pejorative) and apparently hope that you can make a point about the content of what anyone who opposes you says or writes by simply calling them more and more creative names. This is a serious end-stage indication of complete loss of any ability to reason. You may indeed be "too far gone" and may be irretrievably condemned to mindless babbling for the rest of your life. You poor, miserable guy. It is indeed tough when the only thing you know is name-calling. It is, unfortunately, a disease much too pervasive in the Liberal community and why Liberalism is self-condemned to fail where it exists among large groups of self-actualizing humans. You have condemned yourself to a "Pejora-zombie" existence...just in time for Halloween!
I will, unfortunately, have to cast you loose until you become more amenable to the help you so despe rately need, as a Lifeguard must occasionally do to a victim who is struggling too much and must be allowed to tire himself out before effective rescue can begin. I sincerely hope your life does not become as miserable as you are struggling to make it.

Face it BJ, you are not on my side, nor are you on the side of the American people. Nor are Levin, Hannity, Limbaugh, Palin, et al. They're two-bit ideologues, shills for the 1%. Levin, who specializes in calculated tantrums, seems to be the most informed of the group, and because he's not stupid like the others, the most disingenuous. (It doesn't help his cause that on the radio he sounds like Groucho Marx on laughing gas.) I've looked at his books; they're a total waste of time. Like you he fetishizes the Constitution. But while the Constitution is for him, as for so many clueless conservatives, a document that exists outside of time and historical circumstance, it's also not good enough, and so he concocts preposterous "Liberty Amendments," which would turn the clock back on the democratic (small d) gains of the last 200+ years, enshrine the principle of nullification (the Civil War was fought over this issue), and in the process destroy your beloved American capitalism. What his book reveals is the extent to which conservatism runs on nostalgia, its longing for the good old days when people lived to 50 and blacks knew their place. But it's entirely out of touch with the realities of the world we live in. To be sure, we live in a quasi-authoritarian society. But the Levin-Palin-Limbaugh-Hannity "solution" is to make it more authoritarian. If you are seriously interested in American history and not simply the ghost-written maunderings of Tea Party maniacs, phony "mavericks," and dog whistle virtuosi, you might read a book or two by someone who actually does his own research and writing. Here are two to start with: Gordon Wood's Empire of Liberty and Eric Foner's Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Business. And while we're at it re Levin, why does he insist on pronouncing his name LEH-vihn? It sounds so, uh, French. Is he ashamed of being Jewish?

Whoops! I forgot to include Bill Buckley, one of my all-time heroes. You are claiming an astounding amount of knowledge for such a "young-un"...but you failed to articulate whatever point you intended to make, unless you are completing a required writing exercise for The Daily Kos writer's test. Good luck...you are obviously an Olympic-class pejorative-thrower but apparently didn't bother to find out where the target is located.
Seriously, Harry...you depend too much on pointless name-calling, as a lot of youthful Lefties aspiring to write for the Daily Kos do, these days. You end up with nebulous diatribes, proving only that you are able to recycle worn invective, but not make conclusions from verifiable facts...which makes so much of what you write laughable and boring.
I did not know that you were personally acquainted with
Mrs. Palin, but I am assuming you are as you seem to have unparalleled knowledge about her and her personality and demeanor. I'm sure you're aware she started her political career running for the School Board because she did not like the way things were going in her school system and wanted to make some changes, which she did! Rush was fired 7 times before he got his first radio gig in Sacramento, CA. Mark Levin was in the Reagan Administration for both terms, in the Justice Department under Ed Meese. Sean Hannity persuaded him to try doing a radio talk show and he worked for free for a couple of years because he believed in what he was doing. All these people had a burning desire to make a difference and did not let a lack of pay stand in the way. I admire them all immensely, and not only for their political acumen. Perhaps you could enlighten all of us about their connections with government robber barons and how these robber barons "created" them. Oh...and what is a "neo" robber baron? Or did you just decide to throw in "neo" because you think it makes you sound erudite?
For your enlightenment, I suggest you read LIBERTY AND TYRRANY and AMERITOPIA by Mark Levin and also MEN IN BLACK for some insight into the Supreme Court. They all will help make you a better poster and may wean you off of your invective addiction, which only tends to make you sound like a mindless Leftie ass-hat.
Read some of Juan Williams' stuff from his days at the WAPO. I don't agree much with Juan, but he is, at least, able to make cogent sentences into arguments for his position without brain-dead invective. If you decide to continue supporting the Left, at least the above cited references will help to make you more "readable" instead of an invective addicted high school newspaper reporter.
I'm on your side, Harry and I'll try to help you any way I can.

Seriously, Harry…you depend too much on pointless name-calling, as a lot of youthful Lefties aspiring to write for the Daily Kos do, these days. You end up with nebulous diatribes, proving only that you are able to recycle worn invective, but not make conclusions from verifiable facts…which makes so much of what you write laughable and boring.
I did not know that you were personally acquainted with
Mrs. Palin, but I am assuming you are as you seem to have unparalleled knowledge about her and her personality and demeanor. I’m sure you’re aware she started her political career running for the School Board because she did not like the way things were going in her school system and wanted to make some changes, which she did! Perhaps you could enlighten all of us about their connections with government robber barons and how these robber barons “created” them. Oh…and what is a “neo” robber baron? Or did you just decide to throw in “neo” because you think it makes you sound erudite?
For your enlightenment, I suggest you read LIBERTY AND TYRRANY and AMERITOPIA by Mark Levin and also MEN IN BLACK for some insight into the Supreme Court. They all will help make you a better poster and may wean you off of your invective addiction, which only tends to make you sound like a mindless Leftie ass-hat.
Read some of Juan Williams’ stuff from his days at the WAPO. I don’t agree much with Juan, but he is, at least, able to make cogent sentences into arguments for his position without brain-dead invective. If you decide to continue supporting the Left, at least the above cited references will help to make you more “readable” instead of an invective addicted high school newspaper reporter.
I’m on your side, Harry and I’ll try to help you any way I can.

You say you're in step with Limbaugh, Hannity, "Governor"--or should we call her Quitter?--Palin, Levin. In other words a pack of knaves, fools, dunces, shysters, flimflam artists, and practiced liars.
Oh Harry...you poor guy! Are you familiar with Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr. MD? You really should be. He wrote a book called THE LIBERAL MIND, subtitled "The Psychological Causes of Political Madness". It may not be too late for you to get some help as he details a person such as you as a case study.
You are correct on one thing...I am definitely "in step" with
Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Governor Palin and Hillsdale College and millions of other people who know the easily discovered fundamentals of the whys and wherefores of the founding of America and that those fundamentals are based on the individual as sovereign and that the government we permit works for US, not the other way round.
I think I understand you and would like to offer a helping hand. You can write intelligently and there is reason to believe you can be saved, but I know how pervasive and tempting the concept of "free" is to Liberals (including you) and you need to understand that America was founded on the idea that you don't need hand-outs...you can get it for yourself! Just put on some clothes and get out of Mom's basement and (and I know this will be very difficult for you) get a job and work toward your own pursuit of happiness. Start actually paying taxes to support your hero, President Barky, and his Utopian dreams where none of us has to work because we have finally got all the rich guys (like the Koch Brothers) paying us for our support. You will find that works until (as Lady Thatcher famously said) "you run out of other people's money".
But I see a good side in you! You really want to help starving veterans and minorities (and if you are White, you will be joining those minorities soon...) One of the unfortunate reactions to earning your own living, however, is that you come to see the kind of government you support as Robber Barons, stealing your assets in order to give them away to ignorant supporters of the causes you espouse...and they don't even put your name on the stuff they stole from you when they give it away. Trust me...your assets do indeed become much more dear to you when you actually WORK for them!
But the pride in yourself you will feel by earning your own living is much, much better than the cheap thrills you are now entertaining yourself with by ripping off people who you feel have more than you.
Trying to work for equality of outcomes rather than equality before the law is a fool's quest. The Founders of America realized that people are NOT equal, except before the law, and that is the only place.
Do you realize the type of person who would use a government as an instrument of his own banditry? Don't look in the mirror!
Repent , my friend...and change your ways. It's not too late! And read Dr. Rossiter's book. You'll learn a lot about yourself.

I told you what I think. I think he mentioned terror vaguely enough to avoid upsetting our enemies and signaling weakness while at the same time planting a defense for later when he is attacked by opposition leaders for being so weak, compliant and even apologetic to the aggressors.

So the point is that his Rose Garden statement is the strongest statement he could muster, and he completely waffled. He obliquely mentioned terror. What terror? People hear what they want to hear. Politicians know this.

That is worth discussion. Candy shut down that discussion about leadership using that as an example. But here we have a nation of about 300 million people and everyone thinks they're experts on leadership just based on intuition. 0'Bama's leadership can't be questioned because he says what I want to hear.
