Like the kid that just won’t say “please”, it’s the asking part that bothers Obama. Despite the foolishness of it, Congress would almost certainly back an authorization to use force.

Obama could even ask for less than that. Some symbolic gesture. But it doesn’t seem like he’s going to do that.

This is more than mere War Powers opposition. It’s a thing that encloses Obama’s entire concept of absolute power. He likes having it. He rejects any limitations on it.

Whether it’s the power to unilaterally make war, make amnesty, make huge financial decisions… he wants to be the only one with the power.

The official excuse is that action against Syria has suddenly become so urgent that there’s no more time to debate. That excuse is nonsense. [2] The Syrian Civil War has been dragging on for a while.

NBC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd told the hosts of MSNBC’s The Cycle warned that President Barack Obama may believe that seeking congressional authorization to attack Syria in the coming days would be counterproductive. The debate over a resolution would take too long and jeopardize too many Syrian lives

Obama and his people repeatedly said that they didn’t want to rush into anything. There was no concern about the Syrian lives that would be lost while Obama spent years deliberating over what to do.

Now suddenly a day or two is too much.

The British parliament, which is far more noisy than Congress, can somehow manage to get this done. But our own King George finds Congress too restrictive to work with.
