Will Obama Allow Israel to Defend Itself?

The game plan goes something like this. NATO begins bombing Syria. Naturally Syria begins bombing Israel.

Why?

1. Because it’s Assad’s best chance to make the conflict seem to be one between a Muslim leader and Israel, rather than between fellow Muslims.

Saddam bombed Israel for the same reason during the Gulf War. It shifted the focus away from his invasion of Kuwait and won him Muslim sympathy.

2. Because Israel won’t be able to fight back.

Right now if Assad begins hitting Israeli targets, Israel is free to hit Syrian targets. That will change drastically once NATO is operating on the ground.

Israel was not allowed to go after Saddam, even while it was being attacked because that would have undermined the position of the Gulf War coalition in the Muslim world.

The same thing is very likely to happen with Israel and Syria. NATO will not want to avoid associating the conflict with Israel because of Muslim sensibilities. Assad will want to make this conflict about Israel and he will know that Israel will have trouble retaliating once Syrian airspace is controlled by NATO and Israeli aircraft will be barred from entering.

The gestures will be futile, but they will be a reminder that Israel’s ability to defend itself has been passed over to the forces of international appeasement.

  • Softly Bob

Obama can do what he wants. Israel is always capable of defending herself, and Obama cannot stop that no matter how much he tries.
Sorry, Barry but you are fighting on the wrong side. I’m sure that God never forgets!

  • S7teen70six

Israel has already hit Syrian targets so should not be surprised if Syria follows suit. But, of course, Israel has a right to defend itself.

    • defcon 4

I’d say Israel doesn’t have a right to defend itself, as evidenced by the ten thousand rocket and mortar rounds fired into Israel from Gaza to which I believe there has been no Israel military response.

    • Gee

Considering the number of attacks from Syria on Israel this year – the 3 minor responses have been very restrained

      • S7teen70six

Are you referring to attacks from the rebels or by the Syrian military?

  • Tanker74

Get your finger off his chest, you rude A-hole.

  • Corioilis

Why are you assuming that Israel is opposing the strikes on Syria? Israel WANTS Assad-Iran-Hezbollah to be destroyed. So these strikes are in Israel’s interest.

    • Gee

No they are not. All 90 different factions at war in Syria ALL hate Israel and want to commit genocide on the Jews.

Israel thinks that the West should do as Israel and just state out of it. The more the Arabs kill each other the more likely Syria will splinter into many enclaves. The smaller the enclave the more peaceful and weaker they will be.

Anything that prevents that is against Israel’s interest. No matter which side the West backs they will be anti-Semitic and anti-Western. So back none

  • edlancey

Israel has already attacked Syria, possibly even with a mini-nuke. You’re a very good journalist Daniel, but Israel is hardly a disinterested party in this shoddy affair.

    • Gee

What a load of total bullshit.

      Got any more lies?

  • JacksonPearson

Clearly, the community organizer is way over his head.

    • Gee

This is exactly what he has been working to achieve. That is the scary part

  • Naresh Krishnamoorti

This picture is especially disgusting when you compare it with the picture of Obama performing obeisance to the Saudi King with a deep bow.

    • lyndaaquarius

classic punk/bully stance. All for show. Could anyone describe our president as a man of courage or honor?

  • truebearing

One has to wonder if Obama decided to meddle in Syria because Israel will get attacked. He doesn’t like Israel anymore than he likes America. Whose to say this isn’t yet another instance of Obama using his power to “payback” those he sees as the enemy?
    Never underestimate Obama’s vindictiveness.

    • Lanna

Hes part of the evil that wants the Jews destroyed!

    I quote:

“As-Safir said Prince Bandar pledged to safeguard Russia’s naval base in Syria
if the Assad regime is toppled, but he also hinted at Chechen terrorist
attacks on Russia’s Winter Olympics in Sochi if there is no accord. “I
can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The
Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us,”
    he allegedly said.

Prince Bandar went on to say that Chechens operating in Syria were a pressure
tool that could be switched on an off. “These groups do not scare us. We use
them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role in Syria’s
    political future.”

    here too:

SO IF THE SAUDIS ARE CONTROLLING CHECHEN TERRORISTS DID THEY ORCHESTRATE THE BOSTON BOMBINGS?
So who was behind the Chechen Boston bombers??? Especially since a Saudi
national was arrested and spirited out of the US?

Were they punishing OBarry for something he didnt do? To show him who is boss?
    …….
    http://www.infowars.com/obama-covering-up-saudi-link-to-boston-bombing/
Obama Covering Up Saudi Link to Boston Bombing?
“Saudi student Alharbi shares the same last name as a major Saudi clan that includes scores of al-Qaida operatives.”

The Alharbi clan has long been active in al-Qaida. Khaled bin Ouda bin
Mohammed al-Harbi, for example, is a Saudi national who joined Osama bin
Laden’s mujahadeen group in the 1980s. He reportedly became an al-Qaida
member in the mid-1990s. He turned himself in to Saudi authorities in
2004 as part of an amnesty deal.
The BBC reported Khaled Alharbi was
married to the daughter of al-Qaida’s number two, Ayman al-Zawahri. He
reportedly appeared with bin Laden in a video praising the Sept. 11,
    2001, attacks.
Another top al-Qaida operative is Adel Radi Saqr
al-Wahabi al-Harbi, a Saudi national identified by the State Department
as “a key member of an al-Qaida network operating in Iran.”
    Given
the fact that the Obama administration has sent more than half a billion
dollars and the CIA is shipping weapons to FSA rebels in Syria who
pledged allegiance to and are led by Al-Qaeda militants, the notion that
one of these militants would carry out an attack on U.S. soil would be
extremely damaging to the White House.

    So SAUDI ARABIA
THREATENS RUSSIA with Chechen terror which they control to stop
supporting Syria and Saudi incites Obama to attack Syria.
    Hmm.

  • Nowhereman

Haha, no. To allow Jews to defend themselves would be to imply a) that Jews have a right to live in their ancestral homeland, and b) that Jews are human beings with the right to self-defence. Either one of these implications could completely destroy the Palestinian castle in the sky. Obama will never allow it.

  • Texas Patriot

Not only will Obama allow the Israelis to defend themselves, he will encourage them to do so. The only thing holding the Israelis back now is their hope of continued American financial support, and that’s probably going to stop anyway. So what’s the holdup? If Israel is going to survive, she must do so on her own.

  • Lanna

We all should know the goals of Obama and Islam…It is very obvious!

  • garyhope

I don’t think Israel needs Obama or America’s permission to defend itself. Personally I think the world would be better off if Israel flattened Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia and various others and just got it over with. They have the capability and are smarter than all the Muslim/Islamofascist regimes.

    • Softly Bob

I’ve always believed that Mecca would make a fantastic car park!

  • Hard Little Machine

It depends on Assad’s tolerance for brinksmanship. A single chemical weapon hitting in Israel and the gloves are off. They will have to respond with jaw dropping force if only to rock the Iranians back on their heels right and proper.

  • bungicord

Great article Daniel. You show great foreign policy depth.
