I think saying Obama isn't worried about his popularity is misleading. Of course he want to be popular he wants Congressional Republicans to be voted out of office. The problem is, is that he is popular no matter what he does and the Republicans get blamed no matter what they do. There is a video on conservativevideos.com at http://conservativevideos.com/2013/10/liberals-blame-government-shutdown-george-w-bush/ in which an interviewer asks people on the street who is more responsible for the government shutdown, George Bush or Barack Obama. The majority of people interviewed blamed Bush. Bush has been out of office for a long time. People who support Obama will blame Republicans. That's a fact. Does that mean that Republicans shouldn't stand up for their principles? Whether they do or not they'll be blamed anyway.

One question is how accurate are the polls? What exactly are the questions they are asking. How do we know they are totally honest. There must be an enormous temptation for liberal polls to slant their results to make Republican policies look unpopular. This temptation is there because Republicans react to negative polls about their policies by collapsing to their opposition.

Nixon stood with Goldwater who went down in flames. Four years later he was president. The same Nixon who had lost the Governor s race in California not long before. Goldwater's detractors Rockefeller ,Romney,Scranton got no where
and disappeared. Reagan who had supported Goldwater became president.
The candidates that the moderate Republican bosses poured money into recently have lost. The Tea party wins.
"The Republicans have nothing to fear but fear it's self"
