If Bill Maher Gets It, There May Be Hope

maherHBO’s leftie host recently violated the Left’s Party Line on Islam. In a debate with Brian Levy, the director of the Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism at California State University in San Bernardino, about the Boston Marathon Bombers’ Muslim faith playing a role in their terrorism, Maher called his Levy’s moral equivalency between Islam, Christianity and Judaism “liberal bullshit.” See the clip here.

Yeah, at least while Bill Maher is anti-religion, he's at least smart enough to be equal opportunity anti-religion. Meaning Islam gets no pass from him.

  • George J.

This isn't the first time Bill Maher has told off Islam.
The problem is, Bill Maher will say one thing one day, and the opposite thing the next. He doesn't really have any consistent, coherent thought. It's like he has a weird mix of autism, Tourettes, schizophrenia and self-hating Westernism. Once in a blue moon, he'll blurt out random things that turn out to be correct, but then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Bill Maher is right twice a decade. I'd rather listen to a non-functioning clock.

    • Mary Sue

      you forgot ADHD

    • Rifleman

His disdain for religion in general is pretty consistent, mostly toward organized religion. I think that's the key for him.

      • tim

Thats how many many of us feel. Religion's Hypocracy is Insidious.

        • defcon 4

How would you know if all religions are inherently or explicitly hypocritical? Ever read a book?

        • surj1936

tim . How many religions have you studied or you know of to pass such stupid comments No two religions are the same. Each and everyone of them are different, more so Islam. I suggest you start learning about Islam first. see http://www.thereligionofpeace.com

        • Rifleman

Try thinking instead of feeling. Hypocrisy is human, and whatever hypocritical humans substitute for religion, like Marxism or environmentalism, to name a few, they're still hypocrites. There's nothing inherently hypocritical about religion in general.

    Atheist Bill Maher Gets It?

This unappealing character with a limited vocabulary and what intelligence he has is viciously anti-American. ……….yes he shall "Get It" in the next life.

    • John Mac

Bill Maher is DEIST and not an atheist.. Ps i am an atheist. He has said this many times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mALRtGf1FeM
Maybe it may be wise to ask people what they believe in and not tell them.

      • NOT Alex Jones

November 1, 2009 on Imus Maher said: "Neither me nor my girl believe in God or marriage, so there's not gonna be a big church wedding… I always say I don't know. Even Richard Dawkins a man whose name has become synonymous with atheism says he puts a scale of 1 to 7, 1 being absolute certain there is a god and 7 being absolutely certain there isn't, and he says even he's a 6.9. Because no one knows for sure what's out there. He says yes there could be a god and there could be a spaghetti monster out there, but it doesn't look like it.

Imus then asks if Hitchens is a 7. Bill Maher responds…. "he may be, I think we're just talking semantics at some point, we are all atheists (referring to Dawkins, Hitchens, and himself), which means we don't believe in a deity, we don't believe in a magic spaceman, and we think people that do, have a neurological disorder and they need help."

      • NOT Alex Jones

It always amazes me how huffy and patronizing atheists can get about something they insist does not exist.

        • defcon 4

Or how they defend a particular religion through a arguments of false equivalence.

        • jay

My favorite is the opening line in their bible. "In the beginning nothing exploded, and created everything"

  • Chezwick

    Agree with George J.

Maher is a bit like most of America….easily distracted, with a short attention span. Don't look for him to build and articulate a consistent view of Islam any time soon.

  • thomas_h

I hope I am wrong, but I am afraid he will soon, if not directly retract, try to soften the remark. Again, I hope I am wrong…

    • GypsyTyger

      You're not.

  • KPatton

Maher only changed his tune because now HE feels threatened. Being a typical Liberal, Maher espouses his leftist tripe only so long as he feels safe behind a phalanx of others willing to do what it takes to protect his rights to vomit his hate and make millions of $$ while preaching to the choir. Now that he realizes that the Muslims don't care if his is liberal or not, and will just as soon kill him as any other infidel his panties have a load in them. Now he realizes that he might not live to spend all his money made ridiculing the people who protect him. That terrifies him. Maybe he'll end up riding a jihadis bomb to oblivion the nest time he goes to the deli in NYC or Boston, or LA. It is finally getting throught to some libertards that Muslims…ALL Muslims are ticking time bombs. They have no allegence to any country or any thing, save Islam. One only has to look at that to understand why there is no stable Islamic state in the world without the totalitarian fist of a repressive state to rule it.

    • surj1936

KPatton " Very well said. You say " ALL muslims are ticking time bombs " You are so right. " They have no allegiance to any country or anything ,save islam '' You are right again. Muslims only have allegiance to Islam, ie Umma , their Khalifa of Government which they want to establish all over the world . From Muslims Quran Sura 2:193 " Fight against them [infidels/kafure] until idolatry is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme.'' And that is what muslims want to achieve by hook and crook . Now see http://www.faithfreedom.org

Someone mentioned the old adage that even a broken clock is right twice a day. This sums up Maher. He imagines himself to be a libertarian, more than a leftist, and will say things on occasion that depart from the leftist orthodoxy. He's a secular progressive with a strong leftward lean…I don't know why anyone pays him any mind. I don't even know why I'm commenting on him. Maher is more or less useless.

  • Lan Astaslem

This reminds me of the late Christopher Hitchens, an avowed leftist who railed against the cancer that is islam. Even he realized their savagery. I've got a feeling there are many other libs, dems, even some pretty hardline lefties waking up and coming out of the closet.

    • defcon 4

They better get out of the closet soon, time is running out.

  • mitkanadam

Maher was born a Jew, I think. If he was, then the muslims will come for him first. Unless, of course, he converts to islam.

    • defcon 4

I'm wondering these days if any of the liberal defenders of islamofascism are no longer a third party to the debate, but closeted converts (which is entirely in keeping w/the mendacious hypocrisy of islam). I forget his name, but a famous conservative, who used to speak at CPAC and has since been banned, stated that he thought Grover Norquist had gone over to the dark side.

  • catherineinpvb

Whatever is Maher's case; it was refreshing to see a Lefty 'take one' from his own. Not Maher's first 'hit' at Liberalspeak; and so; who knows; perhaps, in time; Bill and Ann (Coulter) can sit and actually, have a conversation on air. Not likely; and not that it matters; or that I will be listening. . .

    • trickyblain

They have done so many times. They are actually pretty good friends, from what I hear.

  • historyscoper

Maybe there are a few leftists left who aren't suicidal about Islam. Maher needs to see this great new video explaining why the Quran commands true believer terrorists do kill innocent Americans, who aren't innocent in Allah's eyes:

  • Murray

Wouldn't have believed it possible. I wonder if we'll see any backlash from his teammates on the left. Couldn't they dig up a leftist intellectual with more gab experience? This one made it too easy for Maher who couldn't resist crossing momentarily into conservative territory with "I'm not an Islamophobe, I'm a lover of truth".

  • Hank Rearden

Bill Maher has been on to Islam for some time. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I suspect he is moving our way. But whether or not that is true, let's take what we can get. Here is a major media figure speaking the truth about Islam on a national network.

  • bradbrzezinski

It's telling that Pam Geller is the left's go-to example of a terrifying Islamophobe. They've got nothing.

    • Mary Sue

oh they drop a load about anybody that's on the Southern Poverty Law Center's hit list…err I mean "List of radical right wing hate groups" (except the Black Panthers for some reason).

    • defcon 4

Yet they NEVER mention the fact Pamela Geller has a stack of death threats from members of the religion of peace.

  • zalukas

There will be a hockey tournament in Hell. The Ice rink is nicely frozen.

So Bill wants to live after all.

  • Graeme

Maher has always called it straight on Islam.

  • tagalog

As a celebrity who will say anything to remain in the public eye, Bill Maher is utterly untrustworthy.

  • surj1936

Sooner we the Infidels realise how wicked Islam is the better. Muslims the followers of Islam are barbarians.

  • theleastthreat

My, it's getting cold down here in Hell, or is it just me?

  • defcon 4

We should all be supporting Bill Maher for this. He's gone off the leftist reservation and I'm willing to bet CAIR has already made it clear to HBO what they think of Maher's criticism of Islam. We all know what happened to Glenn Beck's broadcasting careeer once he began focusing on islamofascism, he wasn't fired because of bad ratings.
