I wrote a book on Schmitt over twenty years ago, and although I'm not entirely enamored of his political positions, I learned more from his works than from those of Strauss. That said, I'm appalled by how my very respectful treatment of Strauss has been conspicuously ignored by his disciples, who continue to treat me as a fanatical Strauss-hater. My work may be the most sympathetic study of Strauss by someone who does not share his methodology and who expresses some reservations about his politics. What makes my interpretation so thoroughly unacceptable to Strauss's self-styled disciples and to most of the conservative movement is that I have committed the outrage of criticizing Strauss partly from the right.

Only Philosophers can beat around the bush even more than politicians.
Next time tell us what Leo Strauss thought.

Quantum Mechanics and Relativity are both based on the simple idea. "If you cant detect or measure it do not make assumptions."

Classical Mechanics is based on the assumption that it will just continue on as assumed.

What is the essence of Leo's philosophy?

Wasn't Prof. Gottfried somewhat enamored of the German political philosopher Carl Schmitt? Instead of Leo Strauss I think it would be better if he dealt with his characterization of that philosopher as "Master" I would like to understand that.
