Same ISNA, Same Terror

Joe Kaufman is an expert in the fields of counter-terrorism, foreign affairs and energy independence for America. He has been featured on all major cable networks, including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and C-SPAN. Kaufman has served as a consultant to different government agencies, and he has been instrumental in getting U.S.-based terrorist charities shut down and terror-related individuals put behind bars. Exactly one month prior to the September 11 attacks, Kaufman predicted the attacks by stating that the 1993 World Trade Center bombing was not an aberration and that it would happen again.

isbaThe Islamic Society of North America or ISNA, as its name implies, is a function of both the United States and Canada. Given that that is the case, a question might arise as to whether the group operates as two separate entities, one in each of its respective countries, or one single organization. And if the two entities are actually one, if one part has action taken against it regarding a terror-related matter, should not the other suffer the same fate or should it instead be embraced by the government?

In September of this year, following an audit it had done of ISNA, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), an arm of the Canadian government, stripped the group of its charitable tax status. According to the CRA, ISNA had a “funding arrangement” with the Kashmiri Canadian Council/Kashmiri Relief Fund of Canada, a charity run by Jamaat-e-Islami, which is the largest Islamist group in South Asia.

Jamaat-e-Islami has been associated with terrorist funding before. In August 2006, the group’s main charity, the al-Khidmat Foundation, led a delegation to Damascus, Syria to hand $6 million rupees ($99,000 U.S.) to the global head of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, at Meshaal’s then-Syrian residence. The delegation delivered a “special message” from Jamaat-e-Islami’s then-Amir (President) Qazi Hussain Ahmad to the Hamas leader. Meshaal thanked them for the gift and said Hamas would continue to wage jihad (war) against Israel.

As well, Jamaat-e-Islami supports the overthrow of the Indian government through its militant wing, Hizbul Mujahideen, an outfit that has been involved in numerous terrorist attacks against Indian troops and civilians alike.

Hizbul Mujahideen became known globally, when reports surfaced showing that it held ownership of the Pakistani compound where Osama bin Laden was hiding/living and where he later was found/killed. Yet, while Hizbul Mujahideen is considered a terrorist organization by the European Union and India, the U.S. government does not recognize it as such. Nor does the U.S. government recognize any of the other aforementioned groups as terrorist organizations.

And while ISNA has lost its tax status in Canada, the group has only been embraced by the White House. ISNA has boasted about its ability to arrange White House tours and brief White House staff, and highlights from one of ISNA’s conferences are discussed right on the White House website.

It wasn’t always like this. Similar to its Canadian counterpart, the U.S. office of ISNA has been implicated in the financing of terrorism.

In 2007 and 2008, ISNA, along with a cadre of other Islamist groups and individuals, was named by the United States Justice Department as a co-conspirator to two federal trials dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas. The defendants of the trials were the leaders of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) and HLF itself. In the end, each was found guilty of all charges.

There was good reason for ISNA to be named. For years, since the HLF charity was established in 1987 as the Occupied Land Fund (OLF), the terror group advertised its Plainfield, Indiana mailing address as the same one being used (to this day) by ISNA. ISNA’s main youth group, the Muslim Students Association (MSA), asked for donations to be sent to the address in OLF’s name.

Even now, ISNA places full color, full page ads in its magazine, Islamic Horizons, for Muslim charities associated with terrorism. This month’s issue includes ads for:

  • Helping Hand, a partner organization to Jamaat-e-Islami’s al-Khidmat, at the time when the group traveled to Syria to give the $99,000 to the head of Hamas
  • Islamic Relief, a former financier of millions of dollars to al-Qaeda-related Chechen rebels and a charity that Israel has labeled a front for Hamas
  • International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), a former financier of a Palestinian Islamic Jihad front and a charity that had its offices raided by the FBI in a March 2002 terror probe
  • Mercy-USA, a group that has had a number of terror-related individuals serve as board members, including convicted terrorist Abdurahman Alamoudi, and the U.S. office of Mercy International, a charity implicated in the al-Qaeda-perpetrated 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania

According to ISNA’s main website, the organization has two Vice Presidents, one for the U.S., Azhar Azeez, and one for Canada, Mohamed Bekkari. However, the site shows that it only has one President, that being Mohamed Magid.

Magid has become dangerously close to the U.S. government, so much so that he has been appointed to a position administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ironically as a member of a working group dealing with “countering violent extremism.”

Placing a terror-associated Islamist, as is Magid, in such a position of power could have negative effects on both American national security and American foreign policy. We may not realize how much damage has already been done because of appointments like this.

Canada, for its part, has recognized that Magid’s organization is a threat to society. A sane policy would be for the U.S. to follow suit, as both ISNA Canada and ISNA USA suffer from the identical radical Islamic malady.

Indeed, they are one and the same.

and who is it that Obama supports The Muslim Brotherhood affiliates, and who is it that Obama has placed inside of our security network, the White House and the Office of the Secretary Of State?

    • ObamaYoMoma

Uhm…I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Bush also filled his administration with members of the Muslim Brotherhood as well. As a matter of fact, Bush appointed Zalmay Khalilzad to be Ambassador of Afghanistan first and then subsequently Ambassador of Iraq, and today both countries respective constitutions have been enshrined with Sharia law as the highest law of the land as a direct result. Now that wouldn’t be so bad, but Sharia law is Islamic totalitarian law and as a result both countries today are Islamic totalitarian hellholes. Is that what we went to Afghanistan and Iraq to accomplish? Indeed, just like when it comes to growing the size, scope, and power of the government, when it comes to Islam, the Republicans are just as inept and incompetent as the Dhimmicrats. I don’t vote for either one of them, because they are just two sides of the same leftwing coin.

      • joshuasweet

but Bush is not in Office now and has not been for several years now so Obama is continuing their placement inside our government not overseas like Bush did to make the talks go faster as a common grounds to end the wars, that is a good thing. to place them inside of our government at the top levels with out security background checks is a bad thing.

        • ObamaYoMoma

With all due disrespect, you don’t have a clue.

At least there was some hope in the Republicans: Lt. Col. Allen West. The Democraps went out of their way to insure Lt. Col. Allen West was unelected, and that speaks volumes about their agenda.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Muslims aren’t perpetrating terrorism here and there in response to various Western provocations, as that is PC multicultural propaganda. Instead, Muslims are waging both violent and non-violent stealth and deceptive jihad to ultimately make Islam supreme, and one of their biggest modes of non-violent stealth and deceptive jihad is mass Muslim immigration to the West with all of its excess baggage for the strategic purpose of demographic conquest. Hence, Muslims aren’t terrorists! They are jihadists instead, either violent jihadists as in AQ or non-violent stealth and deceptive jihadists as in the millions of Muslims that have migrated to the West. Indeed, jihad is a worldwide war and a worldwide war is far more substantial and profound a problem relative to a few stray Muslim extremists perpetrating terrorism here and there as the PC multicultural police would have you believe.

The article might have made it more clear that ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) used to be CAIR Canada, and that in America it’s still just called CAIR (Counsel on American Islamic Relations).

This is exactly why FPM is so inferior to Bare Naked Islam, Jihad Watch, Gates of Vienna, and Creeping Sharia (among others). The Religion of Peace (.com) should just stop linking to FPM until it grows up, and joins the ‘major league’.

Where Christianity and Judaism are building hospitals, accommodation, schools, feeding the hungry etc etc. Islam and Charity is just another oxymoron.

Islamic donations are purely for Jihad. Nothing else. Period!.

    • ObamaYoMoma

That’s because Islam is not a faith-based religion like Christianity and Judaism, as the freedom of conscience to choose to believe or not to believe is absent in Islam due to the punishment of death for blasphemy and apostasy, and that makes Islam a cult as opposed to a faith-based religion. Furthermore, because all Muslims are forced to submit to the “will of Allah”, which in essence is Sharia, i.e., Islamic totalitarian law, Islam is also a very rabid form of totalitarianism. Indeed, in other words, Islam is a totalitarian cult masquerading as being a faith-based religion to dupe those it intends to subjugate into Islamic totalitarianism via jihad and the eventual imposition of Sharia.

Hence, don’t morally equate Islam with true faith-based religions like Christianity and Judaism because Islam is not a faith-based religion.

ISNA’s former president in the US was Muzammil Siddiqi, now head imam at the Islamic Center of Orange County and darling of the inter-faith crowd. A couple of years back the OC Human Relations Commission, a white elephant run by a hack named Rusty Kennedy, gave Siddiqi a “community leader” award. Meanwhile, he, like 200 other Muslim leaders in the US, has refused to sign Nonie Darwish’s Freedom Pledge that American apostates should not be harmed.
