You have to hand it to the Russians, they are playing chess and the Obummer minions are trying to put the checkers on the board. If we were smart, and we aren't, we would encourage trhe Kurds to declare their own homeland and let the Russians to arm them, let the kurds be a wonderdful pain in the azz to the Turks, Iraqi's, and persians for once. The Russians one way or another are going to have that warm water port in the med, and they aren't going to give a rats azz how many savage muslims are killed in the process to make it happen.

If there is no reasonable way to topple Assad's regime, I would suggest that the CIA and other Western intelligence agencies form a coup d'etat against Assad and his regime in Syria. This coup should be pro-Western, pro-Israel and pro-American. Assad should be replaced by a pro-Western leader who will make peace with Israel and outlaw Islamism, Communism, anti-Americanism, anti-Westernism, anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism and any organizations sympathetic to Assad and totalitarianism. As for Putin's regime in Russia, The West and their intelligence agencies should overthrow him and replace him with a pro-Western leader who would support America and the West in every conflict, and who will make anti-Americanism a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. The world needs to make anti-Americanism and anti-Westernism felonies. Putin, Assad and their cronies need to be sent to Guantanamo Bay to serve life in prison without parole there. America and its allies (particularly Britain and Israel) are the best countries in the world. Enemies of America, Britain, Israel, their allies and democracy need to serve very long prison sentences in Gitmo. The world needs to accept America's democratic and free-market systems as the best systems in the world.

The reason Russia is helping Assad is because they want their warm water port in Tyre, it's not because they love the muslims. Did you happen to notice that the jihadist rebels are not messing with the Russians?

The only winner for now is Putin. Putin's objective is not keeping Assad in power, rather maintaining sea base in The Mediterranean. If Russia has any chance to be relevant against The USA it must have a Mediterranean sea base and Putin knows it.. Syria's civil war will continue until Russia secures long term military base in eastern Mediterranean for herself.
As for the biggest looser, is none other than Turkey. So far Turkey's entire foreign policy has been a disaster. From zero problem with her neighbors to moving away from Israel. And its domestic policy is not doing any better either, specially when it comes dealing with PKK.. Sooner or latter Syrian civil war will spread into Turkey. And when it does the entire middle east will change forever.

Both sides are anti Israel . If Assad had wanted to go after Israel ,he would have long ago.
Assad protected religious minorities in Syria to some degree, the sunnis have no intention of doing so..The rebels are not Syrian citizens fighting for freedom , they are a conglomerate of sunni terrorists from across the ME.
They want to take down Assad but who is waiting in the wings to replace him ? Another Morsi, Gaddafi ,Arafat or pseudo Saudi prince ?

Muslims are the worst enemy of muslims .They murder each other for imagined insults.
The EU & US have no business being involved or arming terrorists groups to kill terrorist groups.

While breaking the axis of evil between Syria and Iran is paramount, the fact of the matter is that the issue is hardly as clear cut as it seems. In fact, it is beyond incendiary, and the so called "rebels" are at the tip of the explosion - http://adinakutnicki.com/2013/03/10/a-hellfire-un...

In no way does the above obviate the need to destroy Iran's death project. However, this has little to do with getting rid of Assad.

"Israel is the fourth loser in the Syrian conflict. Jerusalem failed to break the Iran-Syria-Hezbollah (and to a lesser extent Hamas) axis..."

It's not at all clear that Israel even wanted Assad overthrown. The Israelis made no real attempt to lobby Washington to support the Syrian rebels. One could argue that doing so would have been counter-productive, tainting the Syrian opposition. But that never stopped Israel from voicing support for Saddam's overthrow.

It probably pertains to the old axiom, 'better the devil you know.' For ll the anti-Israel machinations of Assad and his father before him over the years, the Golan front has been quiet for just shy of 40 years.
