The Totalitarianism at the Heart of the Obama Scandals

0608-left-attacks-obamaThe Obama administration’s legs are wobbling under the weight of so many scandals lately that whole chunks of the edifice – the IRS, the NSA, the DOJ – are threatening to implode, particularly without support from the normally adoring media. Even the New York Times – the New York Times! – is no longer willing to bolster an administration whose totalitarian urges have been exposed to the light.

Let’s begin with the Internal Revenue Service’s thuggish targeting of conservative groups. From April 2010 to April 2012, the IRS placed on hold the processing of applications for tax-exempt status received from organizations with such presumably conservative indicators as “Tea Party,” “patriots,” or “9/12” in their names, approving only four while green-lighting applications from several dozen organizations whose names included the likely left-leaning terms “progressive,” “progress,” “liberal,” or “equality.” It demanded from some conservative organizations unwieldy amounts of documentation and private information, such as what books their members were reading or what they had posted on social networking sites. The Coalition for Life of Iowa was actually asked to detail the content of their prayers at meetings. The Cincinnati office of the IRS leaked confidential donor information from some conservative applications to an investigative reporting organization. Even some conservative individuals are now alleging that they were personally targeted by the IRS for political reasons. Mark Steyn correctly labeled this abuse “a scale of depravity hitherto unknown to the tax authorities of the United States.”

Then Obama’s sycophantic press itself discovered to their dismay that Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department secretly collected telephone records for April and May of 2012 from as many as twenty of the Associated Press wire service’s reporters and editors, in relation to an apparent leak to the AP about an al Qaeda plot in Yemen. For the first time, Obama’s fanboys among the media found themselves on the wrong end of his political bullying, and they didn’t like how it felt.

In further persecution of media figures who aren’t sufficiently obsequious, Holder signed off on a search warrant identifying Fox News reporter James Rosen as a “possible co-conspirator” in violations of the Espionage Act. The warrant authorized seizure of Rosen’s private emails. Holder and Obama later half-heartedly reassured the press that reporters would never be arrested for “doing their job” (meaning they’ll be fine as long as they continue to provide cover for the Obama regime), but the media got the intimidating subtext.

Let’s not forget the ongoing saga of the Benghazi cover-up, although certainly the Obama administration would like for us to do so. “What difference at this point does it make?” Hillary Clinton snarled in response to questions about her involvement. “Benghazi happened a long time ago,” Obama’s press secretary Jay Carney said dismissively when pressed about whistleblowers being prevented from testifying. This administration would prefer, in true totalitarian fashion, for the whole embarrassing debacle to simply disappear down the “memory hole” George Orwell wrote about in 1984.

Then of course the National Security Agency was caught recently collecting the telephone records of millions of Verizon customers. But the intrusive secret data-mining didn’t end there. Through a top-secret communications surveillance program called PRISM, instituted during the War on Terror years of the Bush administration, the U.S. intelligence community can access the servers of nine Internet behemoths such as Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Skype and Facebook for a wide range of digital data. That NSA service has grown exponentially under Obama, which is curious since he declared the War on Terror to be over.

And most recently, it has come to light that the Environmental Protection Agency displayed political bias when charging fees to groups seeking information via Freedom of Information Act requests. Research by a conservative think tank showed that the EPA waived fees for documents requested by left-leaning groups about 90 percent of the time, while denying fee waivers to conservative counterparts about 90 percent of the time.

So much for the administration that promised transparency. But such behavior is entirely consistent with the power-hungry nature of Obama and his cronies. Remember, this is a cabal of Alinskyites who possess an open resentment of and frustration with the Constitution, the “flawed,” “living document” that throws up roadblocks to their totalitarian agenda. They have made no secret of their lack of respect for the First Amendment, working as they have in concert with the Muslim Brotherhood to criminalize criticism of Islam. They have made no secret of their lack of respect for the Second Amendment, working as they are toward the de facto banning of private gun ownership.

What lies at the heart of these scandals – actually, “scandal,” implying merely naughty behavior, doesn’t adequately describe what these transgressions are: criminal and politically abusive activities – is that they confirm the totalitarian mindset of this supposedly “liberal” administration and reflect the validity of our motto at FrontPage Magazine: “Inside Every Liberal Is A Totalitarian Screaming To Get Out.” The Obama White House is brimming with political bullies who secretly and illegally surveil and target opponents among the media and “average” American citizens. That is the totalitarian way.

Let’s be clear about the misnomer “liberal,” which implies a political philosophy advocating personal freedom. But self-proclaimed liberals are actually very uncomfortable with the notion of individual freedom. After all, if people are free to make their own choices in life, they will very likely make ones that the left doesn’t agree with; better to have an authoritarian government to step in and make the correct choices for you that you can’t be trusted to make for yourself.

From Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s obsession with eliminating choice from the lives of New Yorkers, to the IRS punishing people for their politics, “liberals” have a very illiberal compulsion to control every aspect of your existence, not too dissimilar from the way in which sharia dictates every aspect of a fundamentalist Muslim’s life. Our side needs to be as conscious of the power of language as the left has been for the past several decades. Terminology matters. The left is not liberal, it’s totalitarian, and it’s time we call it like it is and do so relentlessly.

What has happened is that the coup has been exposed. Obama’s promise to “fundamentally transform America” was arguably the only honest thing he has said since he began his candidacy, and he has lived up to his threat. Now the shroud is ripped from his incremental revolution and the media that enabled his overthrowing of our government, economy, and culture are starting to figure it out.

Now what? Does Obama follow Gramsci’s template and hasten the brief violent struggle to complete the revolution, or does he try to lie his way out, hoping the media returns to its previous obscurantist ways?

    • Chez

The media’s enthusiasm for exposing Obama’s crimes will be as fleeting as a high-school girl’s mad crush. And there will be no “violent struggle to complete the revolution”….just stonewalling….until the American public’s short attention span renders the death of democracy old news..

      • truebearing

You may well be right about the media, but there will inevitably be some splitting of the Left between the criminal Left (Obama’s ilk) and the Lefties who have some principles. Certain media outlets may now get “frozen out,” which potentially creates new enemies for Obama.
The biggest scandal in all of this is the millions of passive, mindless, self-indulgent fools who take their freedom for granted. T

This article should be a mandatory read for all high school and college students, including teachers and professors. The writer put together the web of deceit of the Obama cabal. Of all the JUSTIFICATIONS FOR IMPEACHMENT, these solidify all.

  • Spinoneone

Substitute “Tea Party” for Jews and “crony capitalists” for favored companies and things start to look a whole lot like Germany circa 1934. The National Socialist Democratic Action Party of the U.S.A. is taking on many of the aspects of their German counterparts….right down to the thugs working with the administration.

    • Gee

Jews are still the target of the IRS – they were the first then the conservatives were targeted because nobody reacted to their attacks on Jews – sound familiar?

Oh and the targeting of Jewish organizations hasn’t ended yet

      • ziggy zoggy

Neither has the targeting of conservative groups or any of the other opponents of the totalitarians. (Much better term than “leftists.”

  • AmazedHuman

Trust me, Americans are not forgiving or forgetting any of these scandals. What we are becoming every more furious about is that the people in the Senate and in Congress seem to be hiding, shirking, from doing anything about these traitorous acts. Could it be that most of them have skeletons in their closets that they are fearful of being outed if they rise up and do what needs to be done now? Obama should have been impeached and probably put on trial for treason by now. And Hillary? Her political career is done. Nobody is going to forget her part in Benghazi. Nobody!

    • ltcdmward

Yes. It’s as if they’re acting like they have guns to their heads or their children are being held in an undisclosed location.

  • sendtheclunkerbacktochicago

These scandals are an extension of the original scandal, that being Obama not being vetted as to whether or not he is a “natural born Citizen.” We now are sure that his April 27th, 2011 presentation of a supposed birth record is a forgery. It is more than likely that his Selective Service registration was also fraudulent. It happened in 2008 not 1980 as they would like you to believe. He was a “foreign exchange student” in 1980. His SS# was flagged by E-Verify more than once. We are told not to hire someone who has a SS# that has been flagged. Snopes gave a bogus response to that scandal. This man should have never been allowed near the White House as a visitor let alone near our military and the nuclear football. I am shocked that Frontpage isn’t all over this scandalous activity. They have done amazing work in their investigations of all the Obama appointees but ignore the Fraud in Chief’s fraudulent and criminal activity. This should have been the top priority for Frontpage. Shame on them.

I object to the term “totalitarian” to the current administration, not because I support it, but because it is like holding up a Hitler or Stalin sign. I wrote about the abuse of the term here: http://clarespark.com/2012/10/15/orwell-power-and-the-totalitarian-state/. “Orwell, power, and the ‘totalitarian’ state.” Or, see this earlier glossary for the political ideologies clamoring for our attention: http://clarespark.com/2009/12/16/perceptions-of-the-enemy-the-left-looks-at-the-right-and-vice-versa/. Perceptions of the enemy: the left looks at the right and vice versa.” As long as this publication is permitted and as long as we have the internet, we are not harried by the Ministry of Truth, although there are, from time to time, alarming moves in that direction. When you exaggerate, you turn off potential allies such as Independents and disaffected conservative Democrats.

    • ziggy zoggy

How is using “totalitarian” to describe the left an exaggeration in any way?

      • dizzyizzy

If you read either of the blogs I linked you wouldn’t be asking that question. Don’t confuse social democrats with communists and don’t equate communists with Nazis. They were both terror states, but were not identical in their purposes or historical trajectories. I am not a lefty, but am a historian. Do read my stuff and see how I argue these points.

        • NAHALKIDES

I took a look at the first blog and I found it somewhat obscure. I’m going to stick with “totalitarian” in describing at least the goals of the Obama gang, because I think the term (as it has been used up to the present time) applies. As to their methods, I believe they have no internal restraints whatsoever, and if they could get away with it, they would establish political prisons and perhaps even execute Conservative dissenters. Being held back only by some external restraints, I think it is fair to describe them as totalitarians in spirit. Tapson would seem to be on fairly solid ground here.

I think many of us recognize that there were some differences between Communism and Nazism, but they have enough in common to merit the general term “totalitarianism,” as does Shariah law.

          • dizzyizzy

Maybe this one will resolve our differences: http://clarespark.com/2012/12/01/petit-bourgeois-radicalism-and-obama/. Petit-bourgeois radicalism and Obama.

          • NAHALKIDES

I think that one is more to the point; however, I doubt that the term “petit-bourgeois” will displace “progressive” in the lexicon of modern American politics.

          • dizzyizzy

Forgive my European lexicon for what is now called “lower middle class.” Progressive is a term that has drastically changed meanings. Once it signfied conservative reformers out to Americanize immigrants and clean up the cities. But after the Popular Front, communists adopted the term progressive and it has lost its conservative cast and is now more like either right-wing or left-wing social democracy. See http://clarespark.com/2009/12/16/perceptions-of-the-enemy-the-left-looks-at-the-right-and-vice-versa/. “Perceptions of the enemy….” or any of my numerous blogs on the Popular Front and communist infiltration.

        • ziggy zoggy

          You didn’t answer my question.

          • dizzyizzy

If you read my blog on Orwell, you would know that I answered your question. Social democrats co-opted a word coined by Giovanni Gentile (Italian Fascist philosopher) to distance themselves from the dictatorships. What about that is improbable or obscure? Propaganda is not about the search for truth or political science.

          • ziggy zoggy

Yeah. Sure. How is it inaccurate to describe lefties as totalitarians?

  • John Davidson

When President Wilson got the Senate voting process changed, states already lost thir rights to have a say in Federal matters.

  • quillerm

I bet all those Conservative Groups and individuals targeted by the IRS and EPA are feeling secure today. All those delayed IRS Tax Exempt applications, intimidation, thousands in legal fees, and visits by the FBI, OSHA, EPA and other Agencies, was NO big deal to democrats. After all, leftist TAX Exempt applications were approved in less than 9 months, one in six weeks. But Conservatives were delayed for two election cycles, and most NEVER were approved. NSA probably got Mitt’s High School data and surfaced allegations that he beat someone up as a kid. No record of any such incident was made, but third party allegations were made by people that never witnessed the actual event, but heard about it from someone else. It did make the front page of every major Newspaper in the US.There is no limit to what corrupt democrats can do to you, with allegations and your personal data.

    • Gee

Those delays are still going on and the IRS is still targeting individuals under that same policy. Nothing has changed

  • WW4

Whisper the names of the scandals again…IRS…NSA…Benghazi. ooo, so scary!

IRS–In the wake of Citizens United, a bunch of groups, only 1/4 of whom were self-branded TEA Partying numbnuts, decided to apply for tax exempt status to hide donor names–even though many of these whining babies’ organizations had “political action” as part of their mission! How DARE the IRS make them, only 1/4 of all the groups targeted, fill out extra forms to make sure they wouldn’t take part in openly partisan political activity even though Congress allowed this ill-defined boondoggle in the first place!!!

    Going NOWHERE.

NSA–Oh, my gosh! There’s a Patriot Act, and it didn’t really bother most of us when the president was a Republican! Waaa Waaaa!

    Going NOWHERE.

Benghazi–Waiting for those “whistleblowers” involved in the CIA activity to spill the beans. Hearings petered out as the sensational “gotcha” they were supposed to have been, evincing an obvious lack of will from Congress to go after the President. Meanwhile, the FBI (remember the ongoing investigation? oh that’s right–you didn’t really care about that) supposedly located those responsible for the attacks.

    Going NOWHERE.

  • Gee

I am one of those self-proclaimed liberals and I ABSOLUTELY ADVOCATE without reservation or equivocation individual and personal freedom.

I believe in the Constitution of the United States as a living document. Meaning that if people feel that it is outdated or wrong, then before any law is accepted the Constitution must be legally amended otherwise any law that contradicts the Constitution is illegal

    • Western Spirit

A living Constitution is a dead Constitution because the safeguards installed therein can be obliterated by a “living Constitution” to make totalitarianism possible here. To thus change the goal posts to meet totalitarian needs is no way to run a free country.

    • ziggy zoggy

I believe that people who use metaphors to describe reality are stupid, dishonest and delusional.

      • Western Spirit

I believe people who can only insult in answer to an argument has lost the argument and displays a sullen disposition, Ziggy.

What’s the matter do you lack the imagination to use figures of speech in your writing? Apparently so.

        • ziggy zoggy

As a “figure of speech,” metaphors belong to works of fiction.
And you’re wrong to claim I’m sullen. I’m quite happy to insult people.

          • Western Spirit

Of course you’re happy to insult people—you lack the basic skill to win a reasonable argument so you HAVE to insult people to make up for what you lack.

You also lack the imagination to see the basic value of figures of speech in ALL writing.

Figures of speech are here to stay, so get over it! It will make you even “happier” to accept the inevitable instead of kicking against any useful object you may imprudently scorn and attack because of what you lack.

  • Torcer

Let’s be clear about the misnomer “liberal,” which implies a political philosophy advocating personal freedom.

Let’s take that a step further –The use by Leftists these days is their first and foremost LIE.

Take a look at the origins of the word:

    Origin of LIBERAL
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/liberal
Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin liberalis suitable for a freeman, generous, from liber free; perhaps akin to Old English lēodan to grow, Greek eleutheros free
    First Known Use: 14th century

It has the same roots as the word Liberty – can anyone seriously argue that Leftists these days advocate that concept?

The word “liberal” has come to be Orwellian in that it has become the opposite of its true meaning.

“Liberals” have advocated the suppression of free-speech and freedom of assembly through the IRS.

“Liberals” have advocated the suppression of freedom of religion through Obamacare.

“Liberals” have advocated the suppression of the right of self-defense through their pushing for more People control.

And that doesn’t even touch on their tacit support of Obama’s police state.

I think another aspect (linking all these scandals) is the Obama’s administration desire to create a One Party State. They want to have a SINGLE political party operating — just as was true with the Soviet Union and other Communist States. One Party rule. That is Obama’s goal. (And he has gone a considerable way in accomplishing his objective).

SIGNS THAT EDWARD SNOWDEN IS MORE HERO THAN VILLAIN?

Edward Snowden bravely or stupidly outed himself yesterday June 9, 2013, one day after the 64th anniversary of one of the great publishing events of the 20th century: George Orwell’s 1984. A book about a lawless, corrupt, oppressive totalitarian surveillance dystopia. Moreover, the 29 year old Snowden was born in 1984 perhaps a sign that he’s fighting genuine injustice and evil. Has Snowden blown the whistle on a gigantic and necessary security apparatus that serves the American people by keeping them safe but has been corrupted by Big Brotherism or Obamunism like the IRS with an out of control administration using the NSA to gather info on political opponents and use it against them? Is this what Snowden saw that so outraged his moral sensibilities and caused him at great personal risk to go public with the secret programs? Not the process of collecting data to find terrorists and foil their plots which is legal and necessary, but the criminal abuse? Is that what he saw? 1984 may be a sign that Snowden is more hero than villain. But we shall see.

If Snowden was such a hero and whistleblower, he would have stayed in the US and paid the piper, he didn’t do that did he? Do I approve of what Obummer is doing? Absolutely not, but you do not under any circumstances violate national security because your mad at someone. This is way worse that what the wikileaks dolt did by far.

          • cathy

Drakken … I would considering it treason IF Snowden was aware of NSA’s abuse of power against “We the People” by the highest levels of the administration and did nothing to expose it. Hey … doing the right thing is all that is required in this circumstance. Give the guy credit. Why would Snowden willingly face the Obama firing squad.

Words do mean a lot…and that is why I always remind everyone that Progressives are communist with a nicer sounding name…Old time liberals like Alan Dershowitz, who do not hate the Constitution, the American people or the country are just someone you might not always agree with but do not want to diving into the middle of your life. . Let’s begin with the Conservative Republicant who initiated the IRS looking into Tea Party groups, or did you miss that?

“Going Nowhere”….sounds like a wonderful title for your autobiography. Or were you thinking of Obama’s agenda?

  • FrontPgSubscr

There is a lot of truth to this article’s title!! Those responsible at the top MUST RESIGN!!! The problem is that the problem does not stop there. There’s a huge hidden part of government, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), pulling strings -and who are beyond (outside of) the election process. This has
all been going on for a long time!!! There’s a lot more to this than just the conservative vs liberal, liberal vs conservative “games” that have been played
all along -those have always been more of a distraction than anything else and have accomplished little that’s truly substantive in solving the real issues.

Unsustainable lies of the Obama regime..even these Democrats turned out to feel it unacceptable. Too much humbugs, he used from his time of community organizer … but now has lost his elegance nor even seems funny. He shows himself as a cheep charlatan, inappropriate to lead this Nation.

It is getting so bizarre now that even Obama’s scandals are having
scandals, we can’t even keep up with it anymore; massive corruption and
U.S. Constitutional abuse in the IRS, EPA, DOJ, the NSA now the State
Department? I have lived through 11 presidencies, never have I seen
such a mad house! Its like he took what long gone Bush was doing, put
it on steroids, mated it with a NAZI that had babies and let them run
wild through the halls of every Fed agency in his administration!

We are being two party played people,

4th of July we take it back! TAKE BACK THE FOURTH! I want ex-agent
dead man walking (and talking) protected until he pulls the whole
thread, I get the sense that someone in the NSA whose name rhymes with
trapper is freaking out that Ed will pop another far more corrupt,
pestilent U.S. Constitutional abusing boil in his agency.

Wow, Speaker of the House John Boehner’s Traitor is nearly half way to 100,000 signatures in less than two days! John, your exuberant anger against this patriot betrays your true priorities when it comes to the U.S. Constitution that you, like dead man walking (and talking) ex-agent Ed Snowden swore to obey and protect.

Agree 100% Great article but americans will move on and forget it in a week. Unless people outrage and overthrow this wicked system it will only get worse. Personally I think they all should be taken out and shot, the nsa datacenters demolished and all domestic and foreign spy networks shut down. Wishful thinking though as George Carlin said, The american people is bought off with gizmos and toys.

Obama is secretly internet stalking everybody!

Like Jay Leno said, “Why don’t they just facebook-stalk us like everybody else?”

screw Obama and his evil minions, God will very shortly shake the evil tree of its bad fruit and crush it under his heels, Obama is almost finished , he will be toast and their will,be nothing he can do to stop it. as for Napolitano at the DHS she will also be toast for her treasonous actions.
