No! No! No! Nixon TALKED about using the IRS on the tapes but he never DID it. Nixon let off steam by talking tough but he was much more circumspect in his ACTIONS. It was his bad fortune that Gordon Liddy was in earshot when he was talking about getting the goods on Daniel Ellsberg. Liddy was a man of action, not reflection, but in this case the important buffer between Nixon's bluster and action was not there.

However, on the IRS, cooler heads prevailed. Nixon talked about doing things to his "enemies" as a sort of fantasy - what he COULD do if he wanted or what he COULD do if he acted like them.

So, let's not promulgate the liberal talking point that "Nixon did it" with the IRS because Nixon did NOT do it.

The comment of Dennis X above is racist and obscene. I already know that many, many left wingers are racist and obscene, so his comment does not enlighten in any way. I have no problem with lefties posting opinions opposed to mine, but I have a big problem with comments like Dennis X's. I see no reason at all that such comments should not be removed and the poster banned.

The flat tax would really be flat, it would take no more than 1 page to write, instead of the many 1000 pages of today! The many positive effect of a flat tax, would liberate productive people to be even more productive, and the many tax lawyers would have to change profession or choose another branch of law. Another effect would be to have more than 100.000 people who are currently employed at the IRS to find themselves looking for a job. I think that would be positive, the many new businesses sprouting of a biblical simple flat tax can easily integrate those "poor fellows" of the IRS who lost the job. And probably I forgot another 1000 positive effects......

Congress has such sketchy guidelines for 501(c)(4)s that the IRS can come up with its own makeshift guidelines. We know that many of these "social welfare" organizations, particularly since the Citizens United case, are essentially political fronts used to hide money for both parties. We also need to know what the other 2/3 to 3/4 organizations targeted that were not specifically "TEA party"-style named to see how deep the politics go. So we need real leadership at the IRS, and we need to re-evaluate what the point of 501 (c)(4) really is.

Nobody but nobody has to tell me that Barack Obama, our President is not responsible either directly, or indirectly behind this targeting of Conservatives. Someone directed the IRS to harass Conservatives, as Conservatives as a whole are opposed to Obamacare. Now it becomes more interesting, because a majority of Americans are opposed to Obamacare, not just Conservatives.
I come to praise Obama for his progressive healthcare initiative is no longer the chant, it is how do we get rid of it, and so the IRS is taking up the cause of informing we the people are in their crosshairs. You can not oppose Obama, or Obamacare, and we, the IRS will stand behind our Fearless Leader.
I can't believe I just said that, I am supposed to be respectful, but no longer.

Despite the furor over the political persecution of conservatives, Christians, Jews, etc., the net result of the IRS scandal may end up with only the firing of a few expendable bureaucrats and a thoroughly depressed, scared citizenry. It may also prove to be a purity test, identifying the true believers on the Left, leaving those who sided with truth, justice, and free speech purged from party and hiding in Mexico.

Having co-owned a corporate tax practice, with major clients in the NYC metro area, I am well acquainted with IRS tax law, as well as the filings pertaining to 990 non-profits, and the restrictions therein. There is no doubt, at least according to all of the related reports, that the IRS not only targeted them, but engaged in illegal and improper conduct.
Moreover, the IRS has been known to give tax exempt status to terror-related groups with NO due diligence involved! Basic tenets of 501 (c) (3) were repeatedly violated, even including the most basic of all - inter-related parties. This is indeed the case and I have the goods to prove it - http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/09/10/way-past-time...
