What Did Obama Know and When Did He Know It?

ob77Congressional testimony this week showed the appalling lengths to which the Obama administration went to cover-up its mishandling of last fall’s terrorist attack at the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, but President Obama’s precise role in the cynical operation remains hidden.

Americans still don’t know what President Obama knew and when he knew it. We don’t know what exactly he did when he learned on Sept. 11, 2012 that U.S. officials in Benghazi were under attack. Obama may have gone to bed while the attack was in progress, leaving others in the administration to develop a politically expedient cover story calculated to get the Obama administration past the finish line last Election Day.

Obama’s advisers, with the president’s consent or not, opted to tell lies to get their man reelected, and to deal with the consequences of those untruths later. They knew they could count on the mainstream media to snooze on the job and dismiss the investigation to come as a partisan witch-hunt.

The manufactured storyline emphasized Obama’s increasingly hollow claim that “al-Qaeda is on the path to defeat and Osama bin Laden is dead.” It allowed the president to escape much needed scrutiny about his lame approach to national security and the threat that Islamism poses to the United States.

Although three State Department whistleblowers testified Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the testimony of one witness in particular was especially unfavorable to the Obama administration.

During the hearing, star witness Gregory N. Hicks, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya during the attacks, explained to Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) that U.S. military personnel were not allowed to come to the aid of U.S. officials in Benghazi, a mere 400 nautical miles away.

“They remained in Tripoli with us,” Hicks said. “The medic went with the nurse to the hospital and his skills to the treatment of and care of our wounded.”

Chaffetz asked how the personnel reacted to being ordered to stand down.

“They were furious,” Hicks answered. “I can only say, well, I will quote [Army] Lieutenant Colonel [Steve] Gibson — he said ‘this is the first time in my career that a diplomat has more balls than somebody in the military.’”

Hicks testified that in his opinion U.S. military forces could have responded in time to the attacks in Benghazi had they been permitted to do so.

The U.S. defense attaché indicated around 10:45 p.m. on the night of the extended firefight between doomed consular officials and Islamic terrorists that U.S. soldiers could have been on site in Benghazi within a maximum of three hours, Hicks said.

The attaché said that U.S. African Command and the Joint Chiefs of Staff made it known that they had military assets in the area capable of responding, Hicks said.

Former U.S. Navy SEALs Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods lost their lives at about 2 a.m. when the consulate was subjected to mortar fire.

Because Hicks’s assertion that there was a stand-down order contradicted Senate Armed Services Committee testimony Feb. 7 by U.S. Army General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) publicly demanded yesterday that the nation’s top uniformed military commander come back to Capitol Hill to offer new testimony about the Benghazi saga.

“I asked [Dempsey] directly,” Graham told Fox News.

“Were there any military assets in motion, to help folks in Benghazi, [that were] told to stand down? And what did Greg Hicks say? That Lieutenant Colonel Gibson — a DOD employee, a member of the Army — was in Tripoli, ready and willing to go to Benghazi, preparing to go to Benghazi, and was told to stand down.”

“Clearly,” Graham said, “our chairman of the Joint Chiefs’ rendition that no one was told to stand down is now in question.”

Fox News asked Pentagon spokesman Major Rob Firman to comment. “They weren’t told to stand down. They were simply told not to go to Benghazi. They were told to go to the airport in Tripoli to provide security there,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Seiber, a spokesman for the Joint Staff, said in a separate interview that if Dempsey were to testify again, his remarks “will not change.”

Graham also said he wanted Cheryl Mills, who was then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s legal counsel and chief of staff, to testify about Benghazi, and wanted Clinton recalled as a witness for further testimony. (Joel Pollak helpfully notes that while Clinton may have misled Congress in her previous testimony, she did not do so under oath.)

At the Wednesday hearing Hicks also testified that he never believed the attacks were prompted by a hilariously low-quality anti-Islam video on YouTube. It remains unclear who authored the now-infamous talking point but some evidence points in the direction of Obama speechwriter Ben Rhodes.

Hicks said no one from the consulate reported that the assault on the consulate was related to protests over an anti-Islam video, the Obama administration’s invented explanation for what led to the attack.

Hicks said he spoke to U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens by telephone not long after the mission was besieged. Stevens’s last words to him were, “Greg, we’re under attacks,” Hicks testified.

When Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice helped spread the phony cover story on Sunday TV talks shows five days later, saying that the video sparked the assault, Hicks testified that he was “stunned. My jaw dropped. And I was embarrassed.”

Hicks said he had asked Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Beth Jones why Rice had blamed the attacks on the video. “She said, ‘I don’t know,’” Hicks said in his testimony.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) asked, “But was it like you shouldn’t be asking that question, you should be quiet, we don’t want to talk about that? Was that the sense you got?”

“The sense I got was I needed to stop the line of questioning,” Hicks responded.

Hicks recounted that Clinton’s then-chief of staff chewed him out over an unauthorized meeting he had with Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah).

Hicks gave Chaffetz a classified briefing without a lawyer from the State Department being present, contrary to Clinton’s orders. Mills, whom evidence established told witnesses not to cooperate with congressional investigators, was “upset,” Hicks said.

An emotional Hicks expressed dissatisfaction with the Obama administration’s approach to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2012, and what followed them.

“I am a career public servant,” Hicks said. “Until the aftermath of Benghazi I loved every day of my job.”

At this point it appears that only partisan leftists, useful idiots, the naive, and the ill-informed profess the belief that run-of-the-mill governmental incompetence explains the administration’s disgraceful behavior on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center.

Chances are Republicans in Congress will not drop this critical issue and that this week’s testimony from State Department officials who were bullied and intimidated by the Obama White House is only the beginning.

These whistleblowers are doing a GREAT job there is no reason why an American should lower their head or kneel to any muslim; because that is what they want. Americans have always defended their country and are proud and as an outsider I have always admired Americans for it

    • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLNn2YflwNs Roger

And that's one of the things this president wants to transform about this country.

    • STEVE CHAVEZ

DID ANYONE KNOW WHEN THE ATTACKS WERE TO END?

Did Obama and Hillary have direct contact with the attackers to tell them to stop when they did?

Why was the Turkish Ambassador meeting with J. CHRISTopher Stevens?

Were the weapons that were supposed to go to Turkey, then to Syria, used instead on our embassy and that's how Obama and Hillary had those direct contacts since they knew who the weapons were supposed to go to?

Do some Democrats, especially the Black ones, know of this angle and they are aiding in this cover-up that will take down this "Black man?"

FINALLY, could this actually be a SUSAN RICE/OBAMA plan to discredit Hillary so that SUSAN RICE, a Black woman, into the 2016 race which would fit in with Obama BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY? He would never support Hillary over Rice. Rice will only say "Hillary ordered me to say it was the video. I knew it was a lie."

      • STEVE CHAVEZ

Looks like Lou Dobbs just repeated the theory I proposed in the last paragraph. Maybe I should be on these TV circuits. NAH!

    • SHA

Obama ordered to stand down….it is not a secret anymore.

  • slider 96

"the Whistleblowers " are sucking wind , just like the GOP and their parasites the Teebaggers . The GOP ended their 9th hearing in 8 months with a plea for ANYONE to come forward with information that will support their baseless accusations , of which to date remain their politicized and shameless unproven conspiracy theory . At this point it has become apparent that they could care less about Four Dead Americans and are more concerned with defaming Clinton for the 2016 election. If you're an OUTSIDER , I suggest you do a bit more investigating , before you jump into the cesspool with these wingnuts .

    • Norma

No my friend, there isn't any thing to be politicized here there were 4 people killed and your beloved democrats did nothing for heir fellow citizens. One thing is for sure if they don't have anything to hide than, all they have to do is prove it. If you are talking about defaming well demagogs are twenty steps ahead of everyone else.

    • Lan Astaslem

Even a feeble-mind like yours knows if a Repub. were in the WH instead of an affirmative action narcissist lib like huusein, the media and a$&holes like you would be screaming about the massacre and coverup.

    • WildJew

The best thing the Republicans can do on this. Stay the course. Don't let it go. It is too important.

    • STEVE CHAVEZ

Being that many jobs are POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS, many of the real whistleblowers will stay silent only to keep their job. REMEMBER TOO that they can vote too and have political biases and probably voted for Obama and would die for him so they surely aren't going to throw him or Hillary under the bus.

ARE THESE WHISTLEBLOWERS DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS? If they are Republicans, watch out! If they are Democrats, "I voted for Obama twice, even after the attack," then that will silence the Democrats.

OBAMA WILL SUPPORT SUSAN RICE FOR PRESIDENT OVER HILLARY. It fits right in with his Black Liberation Theology. He's the First Black President helping the First Female and Black President!

    • Jim_C

What? You think this is cynical and don't find the concern for the victims of Benghazi oh so very, very touching and legitimate?

      • reader

Yes, Jim, the Congress should have held the hearings about the American Hero Trayvon Martin instead.

    • Chris

In my book, anyone stupid enough to be using the word teabaggers, while downplaying the completely avoidable massacre in Bengazi to protect the careers of two nasty American hating political wh0res- Obama and Clinton, has serious moral health issues. But amorality is a feature of liberalism, not a bug.
Don't you have a flag burning to get to?

    • Pontotoc Bill

Slider 96, that must explain your situation. Your brain has slid off kilter.

Just because you refuse to accept the testimony does NOT mean it is false. You do not have a strong connection with reality.

Weak connection to reality = means a daily diet of MSNBC, Daily Dos, Chris Matthews, and the rest of the comedy teams masquerading as news sources.

    • Keith32

Hey slider 96, I have a question for you. Do useful idiots like you KNOW you're a useful idiot? Or are you completely unaware of it? Can you tell me why these individuals would put their nearly 30 year careers on the chopping block just because they don't like someone? Can you also tell me how you can completely ignore the established facts in this case and call someone else uninformed? And can you tell me why, when you know you're on he losing side of an issue your only recourse to resort to vulgarities? Just hoping you can shed some light on some of the more interesting aspects of extreme ideologue, propagandist stupidity. Oh, and one more thing, why haven't you thrown in the race card yet? That is your favorite, isn't it?

    • Gislef

Folks like Hicks _did_ come forward with information.

    • tagalog

It's "COULDN'T care less," not "could care less." If you COULD care less, that means you have farther to go in not caring.

    • tagalog

When you say "defaming Clinton," you are talking about making false statements about her character. So far, what's being said about her is not only true, but the bad stuff has come from her own mouth, directly from her character to the public forum.

Besides, is there some problem with delegitimizing Hillary Clinton, the obvious next choice for a Democrat Presidential candidate? That's what politics are all about. Is the GOP supposed to refrain from doing the same political smearing that the Democrat Party has been doing from time immemorial?

Worldnet's Erik Rush: Obama Likely ‘Orchestrated the Attack’ in Benghazi and ‘Deserves to Be Occupying a Cell in Some Federal Penitentiary’
“Depending on the outcome, measures might be as severe as charges filed against Cabinet officials or the impeachment of Obama himself,” Rush writes. “While this president reasonably deserves to be occupying a cell in some federal penitentiary anyway, impeachment presents many troublesome aspects.”
But he warns that impeachment proceedings against Obama will “ignite civil unrest,” which Rush claims is actually Obama’s plan all along!

I'm sure you loved ABC until they revealed the 12 e-mails demonstrating that 1)contra Jay Carney's claim, more than a single word was changed in the talking points; 2) contra Susan Rice claim, the talking points were edited by the Department of State (for which she works) rather than the CIA; 3) everything the administration claimed before the American people and UN for weeks after the attacks were lies. "NO FOOL" – fool by definition – fool (fl)n.
          1. One who is deficient in judgment, sense, or understanding.
          2. One who acts unwisely on a given occasion: I was a fool to have quit my job.
          3. One who has been tricked or made to appear ridiculous; a dupe: They made a fool of me by pretending I had won.
          4. Informal A person with a talent or enthusiasm for a certain activity: a dancing fool; a fool for skiing.
          5. A member of a royal or noble household who provided entertainment, as with jokes or antics; a jester.
          6. One who subverts convention or orthodoxy or varies from social conformity in order to reveal spiritual or moral truth: a holy fool.
          7. A dessert made of stewed or puréed fruit mixed with cream or custard and served cold.
          8. Archaic A mentally deficient person; an idiot. – An attempt to demean in a defaming manner those in opposition to one's world view: an emotional red herring. Such tactics tend to boomerang. Rather masochistic ( Self-defeating personality disorder).

"YOU PEOPLE don't deserve the freedom I FOUGHT FOR in 1968." – So , since when is one man the judge and jury of the people and decides who may or may not have freedom? Rather narcissistic.

"If the end result is a bunch of crackpots like the idiots above , then you've devolved into a banana republic mentality ." – A prima facie argument based on no evidence to the contrary, yet reduced to "name calling" to evoke persuasiveness. Rather untoward and froward.

"You begin to believe you're own lies and attack all who don't buy into it . " – Are you not attacking those who do not buy into "your" world view? Rather demented.

"So far you people have proved nothing in the way of a conspiracy and NOTHING in the way of a coverup ." – This type of speech is indicative of a enclosed mind that is intransigent and bent on self promulgation. Symptomatic of monologue speeches with no furtherance to dialogue. Rather incredulous.

" Your crocodile tears over those Americans killed in Benghazi is not and never was your main concern . " – Such speech is remarkable in that there is no human compassion, marked by deflection and insensitivity to loss of human life. Rather vindictive and spiteful.

"Political attack is your agenda" – Attempting to be polemic, and yet shedding light upon one's inner ego and self-actualization to their real agenda – attacking the other party while being accusatory. Rather obvious.

"and only IDIOTS believe what you are peddling . " – Definition of idiot (via wikipedia) is as follows… "An idiot, dolt, or dullard is a mentally deficient person, or someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way. " Hmmmmm. Tone of language and anemic logic perpetrated in the aforementioned slider 96 blog material seemingly befits the definition stated. Rather true… and even pitiful. Cure: Needs a kitten.

IF YOU HEARD THAT THE TURKISH AMBASSADOR was visiting Stevens hours before the attack to organize shipments of weapons, APPROVED BY OBAMA, and all while talks are ongoing about giving Syrian rebels, who are affiliated with terrorists who Obama said are "on the run," what would you say to that? What if those weapons were given to them, BY OBAMA, to get rid of Qaddafi and then turned on us? Anyone arrested to find that out? What would you say if that was the case?

I HAVE WRITTEN FOR YEARS, that the goal of the Communist Party USA, now equal to the Democrat Party, were very bitter at the fall of the Soviet Union, a country they loved more than their own. They are now creating the condition$$$ for our downfall as REVENGE. If you study Obama's and Putin's world actions, you will see that they are now equal. A CPUSA official: "Overthrow of the United States through force if necessary! BROTHER AGAINST BROTHER!" THAT'S CIVIL WAR BROTHER! Just look at the hatred between people today. If the Tea Party, or Glen Beck's 600,000 people that were peaceful during the DC gathering WERE AS VIOLENT AS THE OCCUPY WALL STREET, which Obama, Hollywood, and the Democrats support, then the CIVIL WAR WOULD BECOME REALITY!

THE VOLCANO IS ABOUT TO BLOW since there are so many reasons boiling underground. ILLEGALS, JOBLESSNESS, CRONYISM, VOTER FRAUD, IOU'S TO DEMOCRAT GREEN JOBS, APPEASING MUSLIM TERRORISTS, SLAUGHTER OF CHRISTIANS, SPITTING ON ISRAEL/JEWS, TAKEOVER OF OUR SCHOOLS, THE PC POLICE HANDCUFFING OUR LIVES, RACIAL ATTACKS, WILL CAUSE THE VOLCANO TO BLOW! The downfall worked and Obama will be a hero to billions and will be remembered in history as "The Man Who Brought down the American Empire."

I don't know what evidence there is, but the theory is worth investigating. 0'Bama absolutely wants to appease passively as well as actively deliver for the MB. The rational theory is that by orchestrating a kidnapping of an ambassador, 0'Bama could make a reasonable case that exchanging the "Blind Sheikh" would be a smart move (to leftists).

          Here's an excerpt:

WASHINGTON—More than a week after President Barack Obama's cold-blooded killing of a local couple, members of the American news media admitted Tuesday that they were still trying to find the best angle for covering the gruesome crime.

"I know there's a story in there somewhere," said Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, referring to Obama's home invasion and execution-style slaying of Jeff and Sue Finowicz on Apr. 8. "Right now though, it's probably best to just sit back and wait for more information to come in. After all, the only thing we know for sure is that our president senselessly murdered two unsuspecting Americans without emotion or hesitation."

Added Meacham, "It's not so cut and dried."

Associated Press reporters investigate any possible gym training regimens the president might have used to get into peak physical condition for the murders.
Since the killings took place, reporters across the country have struggled to come up with an appropriate take on the ruthless crime, with some wondering whether it warrants front-page coverage, and others questioning its relevance in a fast-changing media landscape.

"What exactly is the news hook here?" asked Rick Kaplan, executive producer of the CBS Evening News. "Is this an upbeat human-interest story about a 'day in the life' of a bloodthirsty president who likes to kill people? Or is it more of an examination of how Obama's unusual upbringing in Hawaii helped to shape the way he would one day viciously butcher two helpless citizens in their own home?"

"Or maybe the story is just that murder is cool now," Kaplan continued. "I don't know. There are a million different angles on this one."

So far, the president's double-homicide has not been covered by any major news outlets. The only two mentions of the heinous tragedy have been a 100-word blurb on the Associated Press wire and an obituary on page E7 of this week's edition of the Lake County Examiner.

While Obama has expressed no remorse for the grisly murders—point-blank shootings with an unregistered .38-caliber revolver—many journalists said it would be irresponsible for the press to sensationalize the story.

          • kasandra

Excellent! However, you forgot to include the paragraph where they interview Harry Reid who says that the questions raised by the murders are part of a "partisan witch hunt" and Chris Matthews claiming that the story is just more evidence that Obama's detractors just can't stand the idea that we have a black president.

"Arnie, go down, uh, 10 steps, and cut left behind the black Chevy. Philbert, you run down to my house, and wait in the living room. Cosby, you go down to Third Street, catch the J bus. Have him open the doors at 19th street. I'll fake it to you."

Obama is a good muslim, and he sides with islam as is required of him. It flies in the face of America, it hurts and destroys America, but a muslim must side with Islam. He said so in the audacity of hope he would side with islam. Perhaps the fact that islam and sharia law need to destroy the constitution and replace it with sharia law could be a reason islam is incompatible with the west. Tell the politically correct democrats. Their party is just riddled with sharia pushing muslims now. Islam is a political system with a religious component and America is unaware of the details of this newest threat against freedom.

ALSO, DON'T REPUBLICANS know how to play CHESS??? They only think of one move at a time when they should think of twenty moves ahead. They only react to a move by the Democrats. • Jim_C

I know Republicans are very frustrated that after half a year they still haven't been able to drum up a scandal on Obama–er, I mean, find justice for the four victims of Benghazi. It's one thing to let Karl Rove and Fox invent and speculate–er, I mean, uncover and reveal for the purposes of political attack–er, I mean, seeking the truth. It's another to do it right.

It's not hard to make stentorian statements about leadership–that is something politicians can do at no price. Of course, it's another to really find the political will to go tilting after windmills, because that will mean going after people in addition to Obama and Clinton that may not play so well on TV.

        • reader

"I mean, uncover and reveal for the purposes of political attack–er, I mean, seeking the truth. It's another to do it right."

Yeah, right. You're seeking the truth? "What difference does it make?" This is how Clinton is trying to protect people in addition to her and Obama, as you're hinting here. Do you really believe that normal people buy into the idiocy of your demagoguery?

        • DDay66

Yeah, nothing to see here… We should be okay with them lying to us. We should be okay with them abandoning 2 SEALs in Benghazi. We should be okay with the media not even reporting these things.

Go back to sleep Jim. Clearly you are content being little more than a docile head of cattle.

          • Jim_C

Which is it–the spinning of the event, or the "abandonment" of the soldiers? The only one that makes one damn bit of difference is the latter–but what is there to say about it? So far, nothing. Speculation. Second guessing. When there is one SHRED of evidence that the soldiers were abandoned and that this was about neglect–I'll start caring. Until then, an administration spins a news event–SHOCKING!!!

          • DDay66

They had to spin the event because they left those men there to die.

"When there is one SHRED of evidence that the soldiers were abandoned and that this was about neglect–I'll start caring."

Well then start caring. If the testimony of high level officials emphatically stating that at least TWO stand-down orders were issued, what more will you need? Then again neither of these two SEALs were your offspring, and I doubt you have the genetics to produce one.

          • Jim_C

Is there something that makes their lives more special than the thousands of others of our countrymen who have died in service in the last 10 years? Are these the only two "preventable" deaths?

          • Jim_C

I'll answer for you: Yes. Their lives provide an excuse to go after a political opponent.

          • objectivefactsmatter

"I'll answer for you: Yes. Their lives provide an excuse to go after a political opponent."

That's hardly salient to rational investigators. You're eliminating all of the salient issues to find a reason to defend your comrades. And that also means you're projecting your values on to others by imagining that only the amoral politics matter since in the end we're all dead.

          • Jim_C

Hardly; there were two other deaths (as well as other injuries) involved in this event,. The idea that these deaths could have been preventable is not a settled matter, and even if it were, does it prove negligence? Or does it merely prove the power of hindsight?

I don't see such things put in such a rational light anywhere where the daily drum against Obama is beaten. And that is very likely because the goal is not to seek the truth or to learn from what happened but to find something to use politically against the incumbent and a likely future candidate.

However, as I said in a previous post, I do see it put that way by Republican congressmen who understand the process, have access to more info than we do, and who may someday find themselves in a similar office. So where you see a media carrying water for Obama, I see the conservative sphere slinging the mud.

          • objectivefactsmatter

"Hardly; there were two other deaths (as well as other injuries) involved in this event,. The idea that these deaths could have been preventable is not a settled matter, and even if it were, does it prove negligence? Or does it merely prove the power of hindsight?"

Jim, there is no way that forces should have been prevented from responding. At the very least, a flight of F16s overflying the battle ("show of force") would probably have deterred or slowed them down.

But it wasn't even attempted. That's like having the fire department fail to show up and then defend themselves by claiming that it was not very clear they could have saved the property or lives or whatever.

Are you serious? It's very obvious what happened Jim. This is not to say that it's obvious what the specific outcome would have been had they tried something, but the fact that politics completely trumped military defense is a huge scandal. And because this tilts entirely in the same direction that we've said he's tilted since Cairo 2009, it's even bigger.

If you can't appreciate that, you're definitely a product of modern Western education and a blind partisan in denial.

          • objectivefactsmatter

"I don't see such things put in such a rational light anywhere where the daily drum against Obama is beaten."

I can't control what you read. It's a shame that so many people focus only on partisan rhetoric.

"And that is very likely because the goal is not to seek the truth or to learn from what happened but to find something to use politically against the incumbent and a likely future candidate."

Your focus is on investigating the motives of the investigators. You've failed to follow a rational process. Or you simply expect that you can't ever know what really happened until your party admits their guilt.

You need to learn a lot more about how our government works, or should work. If you're not interested in military matters and recognize you can't figure out what really happened or what should have been attempted, then recognize you aren't actually prepared to comment yet.

Wait for the trial or wait for some future historian to piece it together for you. I mean of course you can comment, but you're silly to take such confident positions when there are enough facts to refute what you say. It's just not that easy to make you see them.

          • Nancy

No Jim . It the fact that they might have been save and no one cared to save them.

          • DDay66

Yes, they are more special. While in Benghazi at a different location on unrelated business, two men, interjected them selves into extremely dangerous events in attempt to save lives. And they were refused back-up.

No these are definitely not the only preventable deaths, but if we can't get everyone to be outraged about this one with so much clear evidence of dereliction, then the others would be impossible. Sure I could tell you stories about soldiers waiting 45 minutes for a Dust-off medivac that was only 5 minutes away because they couldn't find a chopper with a crimson cross on it, or the chopper they did have had a gun on it. But, "What difference would that make" to a a self loathing American like you?

          • Jim_C

Don't project your irrational loathing of Obama onto me, DDay66. You say there is "so much evidence"–but it is made of opinion and speculation. You guys were wishin, hopin, and prayin' for a "gotcha" moment that never came this week. And you will chalk that up to coverups, lack of interest, cynicism, or any number of conspiratorial excuses other than LACK of evidence. When that evidence appears–I will change my mind. Until then, keep tilting at windmills.

          • DDay66

Yeah you jack ss opinions of people who were there. Go watch the testimony you lazy troll.

          • kasandra

What could possibly be irrational about loathing Obama?

          • cjk

No difference, and any commander who allows his troops to die due to either; cowardice, deference to the enemy, or for personal gain should be court marshaled and imprisoned.
Anyone found to be covering for any such commander should also be held responsible for their deception.

          • Jim_C

I agree. Now, did that happen?

          • cjk

Then you should be enthusiastically helping to uncover the truth in this current affair regarding Benghazi to see if it did. I believe it did and that doesn't make me cynical nor blindly partisan as I support the uncovering of the truth.
If YOU don't care to investigate what the truth is, I will conclude that you are just exactly what you accuse others of being.

          • Jim_C

I don't have that kind of power, but so far your attitude does not seem far from mine. So far, I have not seen you make any irrational claims. I contrast this to the breathless anticipation and fluffing Fox News has done all week prior and during the hearings, and this shameless propagandizing and inflammatory incitement was focused not on the truth–never on the truth–but on the culpability and even sinister motivations of Obama and Clinton.

Adm. Pickering says a coverup is "fiction." Well–clearly there's been some spin. But I am with Sen. Corker of the Foreign Relations Committee, who is "fairly satisfied" with the administration's account:

"We need to know were these people culpable or not. If they were, why are they still on the payroll? Other than that, I've been able to read all the cables. I've seen the films. I feel like I know what happened in Benghazi. I'm fairly satisfied."

          • cjk

As i see it there are a few points which seem to be about proven at this time.
Everyone involved at any senior level knew that this was a terrorist attack with NOTHING to do with any video.
The president and sec. of state claimed the video was the primary cause for at least two months afterward.
The besieged officials were pleading for assistance while fighting for their lives and any such assistance was told to stand down more than once.
A couple brave men even went so far as to heroically disobey orders and died helping to defend their fellow Americans under attack.
'Heroically disobeyed orders' I don't know if I've ever used that term before, but I hope I never have to again.

          • Jim_C

cjk, the whole "film" thing is baffling because I don't see where it profted them to keep up that explanation. The only thing I could think is that it was a misdirection so that those who planned the attack would think their trail was cold. Otherwise, I just don't see how that explanation would advantage the Obama Administration.

There is an investigation underway and there are obviously assets that need to be protected in a situation like Libya. Those brave men were working for the CIA, and they weren't acting alone. But these don't seem to be considerations in the conservative blogosphere at all.

          • cjk

Seems obvious to me that they didn't want to admit to a successful terrorist attack so close to the election.
I can't imagine that the actual terrorists would believe that we really think the video was to blame when they know that we can see what actually happened.

          • nightspore

So you believe that this all started because of a video trailer on youtube? Or have you forgotten that response on the days following the attack?

I'm afraid, friend, that, like so many similar posters, the context gives your game away. You really should refrain from defending the indefensible. But I suspect that you can't resist the attempt (and so you give your game away).

          • objectivefactsmatter

"I agree. Now, did that happen?"

Evidence suggests that it did. The evidence that has been leaking out all points in that direction. You want a solitary emotional moment for your own satisfaction to push you over the edge to meet your standards for "proof" because you're so deeply partisan for emotional reasons that finding out the truth is trivial compared to pointing out that many conservatives "want" such an opportunity to use as a glowing illustration of why they never trusted 0'Bama in the first place.

That's how history usually unfolds. It only seems obvious to those people who had no emotional investment in denial or partisanship. You're an expert in that and probably can correctly identify conservatives who share that with you.

In the end it's the facts that matter. Those people were left to die. People who expected to respond were not allowed to. There will be more to come for the simple reason that we haven't even discussed a mere fraction of the response options.

They were left to die because a response would have angered the Islamists and made it difficult to keep talking about how al Qaeda is basically a non-factor. It would have probably lost him the election and he knew it.

To say this is bigger than Watergate is a gross understatement.

I was hopeful about 0'Bama and my only problem with him was that he was young. I assumed he would wisely surround himself with wiser and more experienced advisers and we would just get along like we always did. We don't actually need a president to keep the economy running or do anything else. We just need to have them play the role of a patriot and our system of government can tolerate ineffective leaders most of the time.

This guy is the worst president in modern history, and since the POTUS is now so important to the world, he is probably the single most harmful character ever to hold a position of power in the US government.

It started in Cairo in 2009 and it has been Islam all the way since then. He has to cover his moves to deceive people like you and he's done a great job for the global caliph movement.

When he's not promoting Islam, he's busy using fantastic theories about how red capitalism should work, and just doing everything wrong. Without congress we'd be in even worse trouble. Not that I'm happy with what they've done, just saying they have slowed down the destruction.

His golf game is improving though and he seems like an OK guy to have a burger with. I like his dog. He has no business in any government leadership position. That's my problem. Not everyone has that capability.

Is he malicious or deluded? Does it matter which?

          • objectivefactsmatter

"Is there something that makes their lives more special than the thousands of others of our countrymen who have died in service in the last 10 years? Are these the only two "preventable" deaths?"

The difference is that you're supposed to try to avoid death. In addition, you want your enemy to pay a price for attacking you.

This is the worst military bungle in modern history.

          • kasandra

Why can't it be both? What you call "the spinning of the event" is what normal people call "lying." And if we recall way back to the previous administration, all we heard was that the worst thing a president could do is "lie to the American people." What happened to that mantra. Oh, I know, it was no longer "operative" after Jan. 20, 2009.

          • Jim_C

Yes, and that previous administration was famous for invoking "executive privilege." And that previous administration is known to have cherrypicked intelligence which led to our involvement in an action that has had a dubious effect on our national security, and resulted in enough deaths that they have become statistics, not names, as they are here.

So if we are to give that previous administration the benefit of the doubt in that instance, why not now?

          • kasandra

Oh, you gave the benefit of the doubt to the previous administration, did you? Somehow, I didn't remember that. And that administration didn't cherry pick intelligence. Every secret intelligence service in the world believed Iraq had WMD's (and they may have but conveyed them to Syria in the six months prior to the war) and Saddam actively cultivated that belief. You know, I really get sick of replying to people like you. In view of the recent days' evidence about the current administration's efforts evade criticism for the Benghazi disaster, you should be telling people on this website, "I'm sorry. Looks like you were right." But instead you go to the hoary (and whorey) tactic of blaming Bush. It's pathetic.

          • objectivefactsmatter

"So if we are to give that previous administration the benefit of the doubt in that instance, why not now?"

Because there is overwhelming evidence of abuse of executive privilege rather than using it to protect US sovereignty because 0'Bama abused it to protect a strongly partisan agenda that also happens to be opposed to US sovereignty.

It's an example that shows similarities: use of executive privileges, and contrasts, whose or which interest s were served.

It's the difference between use and abuse, moral and amoral or immoral.

If you want to make your case against Bush, that's fine to try. But using Bush to defend 0'Bama is totally inappropriate in this case.

Maybe you really don't see the distinctions. It's hard for me to discern.

Bush was kind of weak but I don't see any sign that he was corrupt or unpatriotic. A US patriot cares about US sovereignty. There is no rational way that anyone can believe 0'Bama is that kind of patriot. He's a patriot in Doublespeak terms. Which is to say that he's anti-patriotic. He's a globalist.

Chomsky is just as bad and so are a dozen or more other leftists, but they're not in a position to do as much harm as the current POTUS.

          • objectivefactsmatter

"Why can't it be both? What you call "the spinning of the event" is what normal people call "lying.""

That calls for moral judgment. We can't judge Democrats because they never promised to behave according to the norms of traditional Western morality.

          • kasandra

Well, you got me there. Their only moral compass is what benefits their cause. But I did say, "normal people", after all.

I understand your positions and don't usually disagree or contradict but rather expand on what you've said.

But I'm sort of serious about the leftists "sense of justice" in that they expect to hold Republicans or conservatives to higher (Biblical) standards, but never promise to live by them. It's part of the perks they get from rejecting all possibility that a supernatural God might have been serious when he send those pesky Hebrew prophets to inform people what the standards are supposed to be.

They're amoral in the best of moments. Many won't even deny this. You just have to catch them in a moment of honest reflection.

Please explain Susan Rice contradicting the Libyan president on 5 shows and the president announcing to the UN the "movie excuse". Then explain Jay Carney's reversal, that it was a terroist attack. Do you honestly believe that with today's technology they didn't know (even though Biden in the debate with Paul Ryan SAID "we didn't know!"). Why hasn't the president recanted? Doesn't he think he owes the electorate that? Why doesn't he TELL us what he was doing during the the NOW KNOWN terrorist attack?

Oh, I know, that has been sealed up, just as his medical records and college transcripts are. We are waiting! TELL us! Or, just wait for the fauning media to poke fun at us for asking.

So when the next problem happens, are you going to tell us or wait a few months so Carney can say "that was a long time ago!"?

  • DDay66

One question, and one question only needs to be answered. Why would two highly trained soldiers (Woods and Doherty) paint a target if no one was coming thus exposing their position???? I would think two experienced Navy SEALs would know better and would never have painted a target unless they were under the impression that help was within minutes from arriving.

    • Looking4Sanity

They DID know better. Those men died with the Administration's lies in their ears. "Help is on the way".

      • DDay66

Not just "On the way" but within a minute or two of arriving. Clearly that help was rerouted.

    • Jim_C

That is a good question, DDay66, but consider this:

These men who were working for the CIA were intelligent enough to know the dangers of their job, and that in undertaking this job, they knew that the US military could never come to their assistance, that they were reliant on the host country for protection ( in this case the Libyan military). They acted bravely and selflessly.

You have no reason to believe that anyone had not considered that. It's a given. They also expected their countrymen to act in with similar initiative at least in broad terms. Did that happen? That's the controversy.

    • kasandra

Yes, and I assume the countries whose nationals were killed investigated. Not that most lives are equally worthy but the issue here is that: 1) in this case American citizens including diplomats were murdered; 2)the U.S. Department of State lowered the security of the Benghazi facility and refused to restore it in spite of requests to do so; 3) the U.S. administration ignored or denied calls for help from its representatives during the attack; 4) the U.S. administration comprehensively lied to the American people and the "world community" (while making sure to undercut the Libyan leadership) for weeks after the event; and 5) the U.S. president repeatedly used his false narrative in a presidential election campaign against his opponent. Any of these factors present in any of the cases you mention?

The elephant in the room is why rescuers were ordered to stand down…why the Americans beseiged were abandoned by the administration. I have seen no informed (with evidence) explanation for what happened. At this point it seems to make no sense. I am aware that the administration is capable of anything, and I mean anything to hold on to power, and to destroy America by any means possible, but why did this happen? Was it sheer indolence, not caring, better things to do, or is something big being hidden. I incline towards the latter, but admit I have no evidence. Motive here is extremely important.

  • WilliamJamesWard

The reason the majority of Americans allow Obama and the depredations against our Nation
is they have to much to loose and are afraid to risk parting with things and watch Obama
fiddle and burn. It will dawn on people like Donald Trump that he will be pushing a grocery

should grow and the false house of Cards, all of his crew, falls and is swept away from

that we have laws that need to be enforced to protect its citizens before the Obama

Obama, the liar, made a number of statements during that CNN "debate" hosted by Candy Crowley. Obama, the liar, enumerated his actions on that night — even at the time anyone older than a 12 year old (guess I need to exclude the sycophants of the MSM) would have known he was lying through his teeth. And would have held the bastard accountable. But there is no longer a politically independent press in the United States.

The Left media has made a point of comparing the Obama Benghazi cover-up to Nixon’s cover up of the Watergate brake in. The latter they remind us was the cover up of a crime; not so with Benghazi they say. That is rank crap. The Benghazi cover up involves a crime as well; the crime of criminal negligence. The State Department was warned repeatedly that more security was needed to protect the consulate and that the prospect of an attack was likely. Security was apparently reduced. The Brits had already withdrawn because of the potential danger. Then when the attack happened our forces failed to respond. People died. This is similar, it would seem, to the plane that takes off knowing there are mechanical problems, catches on fire, the crew is unable to extinguish the flames, and people die . The airline lies. Someone is going to jail. Tell me why the Benghazi tragedy and subsequent cover up isn’t similar.

I realize the world went crazy, and seemingly over the point of no return, decades ago. . . but why are we blaming Obama for the actions of criminals or terrorists. In this case we're blaming 'Obama' for the actions of those who want to kill Obama.

    • kasandra

Uh, we're blaming the administration for its negligence before the attack, its nonfeasance during the attack, and its lying to the American people after the attack. Where did you get the idea that anyone here was blaming the attack itself on Obama (although I would submit that his 8 month attack on Libya, our at least passive complicity in the murderer of Quadafi, and the vacuum that this created in Libya certainly led to the attack).

  • Glennd1

The entire military and CIA timeline have to be looked at. Some of it may be classified, but the Republicans need to get sworn testimony from every decision maker in the chain of command over the use of force. CIA has it's own forces and were apparently some meaningful way responsible for the consulate's security. One of the things that mystifies me is the origin of the drone that was launched within 30 mins. Who ordered that? Why was it only 4.5 hours after the event began that NCMC authority was given to release special forces? Why was authority not given immediately? Also why did the CIF team on Croatia go elsewhere to "stage"? According to a specforces operator interviewed anonymously on Fox that CIF could have been wheels up heading to Benghazi within 30 mins of the initial report. None of this aspect of things makes any sense.

The Republicans will have to go very deep to get to the bottom of this. Stay the course.

  • fanlad

Let’s not lose sight of why this cover up occurred. Think about it, a top secret U.S. sanctioned gun running operation to Muslim radicals in Libya transported by ship or land thru Turkey. An operation so secret to this administration, that not even our U.S. military command and control would respond to a broken arrow situation of sovereign U.S. soil being overrun by Muslim terrorist, that murdered four brave and courageous Americans, that included a U.S. Ambassador. Thus a cover up of the highest magnitude of lies, and deception at the highest levels, that includes the Executive branch, the State department, the department of Defense, the intelligence communities, along with the complicit main stream news media. High crimes and misdemeanors at the least. Miss-Government against the American people at the highest level. Continue to demand the truth, and keep digging for its shining light. This administrations false narrative can no longer be a substitute for the truth. God bless America.

    Former Sec.Gates [ a Bush Appointee ]
Frankly, had I been in the job at the time, I think my decisions would have been just as theirs were,” said Gates, now the chancellor of the College of William and Mary.
“We don’t have a ready force standing by in the Middle East, and so getting somebody there in a timely way would have been very difficult, if not impossible.” he explained.
Suggestions that we could have flown a fighter jet over the attackers to “scare them with the noise or something,” Gates said, ignored the “number of surface to air missiles that have disappeared from [former Libyan leader] Qaddafi’s arsenals.”
“I would not have approved sending an aircraft, a single aircraft, over Benghazi under those circumstances,” he said.
Another suggestion posed by some critics of the administration, to, as Gates said, “send some small number of special forces or other troops in without knowing what the environment is, without knowing what the threat is, without having any intelligence in terms of what is actually going on on the ground, would have been very dangerous.”

  • slider 96

    Gates added –

“It’s sort of a cartoonish impression of military capabilities and military forces,” he said. “The one thing that our forces are noted for is planning and preparation before we send people in harm’s way, and there just wasn’t time to do that.”

So Gates must be another Liar HUH ? And Vadum along with rest of you morons know better than Gates ? What a hateful pathetic bunch ! Youi'll be screaming Benghazi till 2016 and it'll get you the same as the birther memes .
