‘No Blank Check for Israel’ March Coming to DC on January 19

The Jewish Voice for Peace, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and Washington Interfaith Alliance for Middle East Peace has put together a “No Blank Check for Israel” march in the nation’s capital on January 19. The promotional video boasts of the event’s Christian support, with the description emphasizing that 15 church letters wrote a letter in October supporting congressional investigations into U.S. aid to Israel. The adversaries of Israel recognize that the stance of the church will decide the future of the U.S.-Israeli relationship.

The Facebook page for the group has a picture of a man standing in front of a destroyed building with the caption, “Our Tax Dollars in Action. No Blank Check for Israel.” The video compares the cause to the civil rights struggle and the page says “We must condition U.S. aid to Israel on compliance with U.S. and international law!” Jewish Voice for Peace, the group that set up the Facebook page and is one of the event’s organizers, wants U.S. aid suspended until the “Occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem” ends.

The Christian groups endorsing the march include the Episcopal Peace Fellowship Palestine Israel Network; the Presbyterian Church USA Israel/Palestine Mission Network and the United Methodists’ Holy Land Task Force. The inclusion of the latter two is predictable.

The Presbyterian Church USA Office of Public Witness signed a letter in July 2012 attacking Rep. Bachmann and the other four members of Congress that requested investigations into Muslim Brotherhood influence in the U.S. government.  The letter defended Huma Abedin, the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim Public Affairs Council and Muslim Advocates.

The Presbyterian Church nearly approved divestment from Israel last summer, with the measure falling only two votes short with 331 for it and 333 against it. The divestment supporters were praised by the director of the Islamic Society of North America’s Office of Interfaith Relations, Sayyid Syeed. A new documentary includes footage of Syeed saying “our job is to change the constitution of America” in 2006.

The United Methodist Church, General Board of Church and Society also signed the letter. The general secretary of the body, Jim Winkler, also signed a letter in March 2012 blasting the NYPD for using the film, The Third Jihad, calling it “bigoted propaganda.” The letter was written by Shoulder-to-Shoulder, which Winkler is a Steering Committee member of. The president of the Islamic Society of North America, Imam Mohamed Magid, is an Executive Committee member. United Methodist Women also put up ads in response to the American Freedom Defense Initiative’s controversial ads that said, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

Now, these anti-Israel Christians are teaming up with the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), the Washington Interfaith Alliance for Middle East Peace and Jewish Voice for Peace to pressure President Obama.

ADC worked with the Council on American-Islamic Relations to register voters during the last election. ADC often depicts the prosecution of Islamist individuals as acts of political persecution, sometimes deceiving its audience by leaving out key facts and names. It honored columnist Helen Thomas with an award after she told Jews to “get the hell out of Palestine” and saying “Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street are owned by the Zionists.”

ADC was founded in 1980 by James Abourezk, the first Arab-American Senator. He touts conspiracy theories that the U.S. government has been “bought off by the Israel lobby.” He has called Hamas and Hezbollah “resistance fighters,” a sentiment he reiterated in an interview with Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television station in August 2007. In the same interview, he stated that Zionists were behind the 9/11 attacks and that he “marveled” at the “courage and bravery” of Hezbollah during its war with Israel in 2006.

In 1994, then-President of ADC, Hamzi Moghrabi, said he didn’t consider Hamas to be a terrorist group because “I know many people in Hamas. They are very respectable…I don’t believe Hamas, as an organization, is a violent organization.” His successor, Hala Maksoud, said he was “shocked” that the U.S. considers Hezbollah a terrorist group. In 2000, Hussein Ibish, then ADC spokesman, described Hezbollah as a “disciplined and responsible liberation force.”

The Washington Interfaith Alliance for Middle East Peace has Mark Braverman on its advisory council, according to his biography. The forward to Braverman’s 2010 book, written by Walter Brueggemann, says Israeli exceptionalism “gives warrant to brutalizing policies carried out by the Israeli government” and that exceptionalism is the cause of “religious-ideological support for American expansionist imperialism.”

Jewish Voice for Peace’s advisory board includes Noam Chomsky. The group mourned the deaths of Yasser Arafat and Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. It says “the Occupation is the root cause of the violence, and that the Occupation itself, with its checkpoints, harassment, and dispossession of Palestinians is itself an act of violence. We believe that all attacks on civilians, whether by the Israeli army or Palestinian militias, are war crimes.”

The organization makes Israel sound like a heartless, genocidal entity whose sins far outweigh anything ever done by Hamas. It even claims that Israel uses its “U.S.-financed arsenal against unarmed Palestinian civilians, including children.”

“Our tax dollars have been used to destroy homes; uproot trees and crops; seize land from its lawful owners; close all access to food, medicine, and the outside world for small towns in the West Bank and Gaza; staff checkpoints that cut off ambulances and other civilian traffic; and carry out assassinations that kill children in addition to summarily executing political leaders,” Jewish Voice for Peace says.

Jewish Voice for Peace also has a campaign called “Standing Against Islamophobia.” It says “We are witnessing an insidious new wave of demonization of Arabs and Muslims in this country” because of “right-wing Christian and Jewish groups dedicated to denying the fundamental rights of Palestinians.” The page showcases how the organization condemned the “NYPD’s use of anti-Muslim propaganda,” stood against the pro-Israel/anti-jihad subway advertisements and defended the “Irvine 11.

January 19 was picked by these groups because of its proximity to Inauguration Day. They want to be noticed by President Obama and his administration and officials whose hostility to Israel is muted by fear of political backlash. It’s a day to show the strength of the anti-Israel bloc. And it’s a day to chip away at Christian and Jewish support for Israel, little by little.

Could that be true? Well, in theory yes…if Mohamed was a prophet and all his followers could be trusted to keep us informed. In other words, it's entirely false.

From somewhere deep in hell, Mohammad is smiling and proud. It'll be one of Taqiyya, and Kitman's finest hour. GRRRrrrr

There is no stauncher Zionist than this blogger. This is very clear to one and all. However, the monies Jerusalem accepts from Washington are more than a double edged sword.

Firstly, they make up LESS than 2% of Israel's GDP. In other words, they aren't needed, in a financial sense. Per capita, Israel is in better shape financially than most western nations. In fact, it was one of the few western countries not bulldozed by the 2008 meltdown.

Secondly, the monies given for military aid are mandated for push back into U.S. defense contractor pockets. Few know this, but these monies help U.S. industry, but harm Israel's! So, this is not a gift! It is an albatross.

But most intrinsically, it ties Jerusalem to Washington, and in ways that harm our national interests – tether-like. The left, which truly rules Israel – behind the scenes – is desperate to keep Jerusalem tied to Washington, making sure that building toilets in Jerusalem needs their approval. You get the drift.

This blogger is more than familiar with the underbelly of Israeli politics and its policy making – http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/08/28/israels-massi

Make NO mistake. IF Jerusalem was not tied to Washington's "purse strings" , the Iranian issue would have been settled several yrs ago, likely closer to 2007. And it matters not a whit whether or not a Repub or a Dem leadership is in charge. The only difference is that the Islamist-in-Chief doesn't hide his vitriol for Jerusalem.

I agree completely. The US "aid" is also one of the first targets of those who hate Israel – as we can see so clearly from this article. It's time for Israel to say "no more".

(It's also interesting to note that Mr. Obama, he-who-knows-all) is now on record as having stated that Israel doesn't know what's good for it – http://www.jpost.com/DiplomacyAndPolitics/Article…. And that if Israel did "act in its own interests", it would immediately surrender to the palestinians. Do we really need aid from him?)

Israel has the LVAV fighter, the Merkava tank & other stuff developed internally.

The Merkava tank was designed & built in Israel not only to give Israel indigenous capability in case of embargo, but also to save lives of Israeli tankers. When a tank is hit typically 1/2 the 4 man crew die. The Merkava's engine block is in the front to shiled the tankers & ensure greater survivability.

My thoughts are that once the pretend Christians of the Episcopal & Presbyterian churches succeed in cutting aid, they will move to embargo Israel & try to get all trade & resources shut off. Episcopal & Presbyterian I am talking about are those that are suing their conservative brethren over splits in social issues. The break up cannot happen fast enough. Once the Episcopal & Presbyterian of the left spend their ill gotten gains, they will grind to a halt. Their membership will fall. In the meantime the hierarchy will hobnob with the other glitteratti of the left at balls & other get togethers.

Please, by all means. Stuff the pork money without labeling it as "grants". It is another false flag waved by the anti-Semitic system in the present administration. The vast majority of that money is forced down on Israel to "buy" US products hardly meeting needs or quality standards.
And please, please do not "grant" Israel that F-35 thing. I am a former Senior-Fellow Engineer US DoD Military Avionics Programs. Israel can either configure alternatives or buy from other sources a far better product and far lower prices.
The US is in such debt and no cure in sight so it must keep the money.
One further request. The present administration… must stay the f… away from interfering in Israelis people lives.
Eventually true Americans will re take control there, wash out the bad dudes and Israel and the US can then re set normal relations, but without pork fed back loops.

    • Merk

Yes this would help Israel & the U.S.

The Israelis purchase & conduct business more efficiently. This aid destroys native capability just like shipping wheat to famine affected areas puts African farmers out of business & makes food security in Africa more precarious.

Maybe a 2% financial squeeze would be enough to get the devout Jewish men who live off their wives or welfare into the workforce. What is more pleasing to God? Reading religious texts all day while on someone else's dime or squeezing time in to your day to pray to God after a 8 hour workday & all the normal logistics of life?

The defense industry is definitely not competitive inn the U.S. Certainly the Democrats do not take it seriously other than as a jobs program. Maybe some more stress will wake them the f/ck up.

We cannot reduce aid to Israeli without reducing aid to Egypt and vice versa. Well let's reduce aid to both countries & let Israel defend itself. We could also reduce aid to Pakistan. Maybe without largesse to spread around moire Muslims will have to work. If there is no graft to spread around & more people have to work & need to work to prevent riots, maybe it would become more egalitarian. To get people to work efficiently you have to trust them & you have to be fair for it to really work.

No blank check for Israel. How about no blank check for Barack Obama. We need discipline, whether it be for Israel, or the USA, but especially the USA. Money does not grow on trees, it grows in the Federal Reserve System, and thru the Chairman, Ben Bernanke, who prints it whenever Barack tells him to.
I wish I could do that.

Whatever Israel decides is their business…We shouldn't be funding Hamas or the PLO either who are terrorist groups hell bent on destroying Israel and the Jewish people…This is where our support should be as Americans, against Islamist groups that hate America and Israel.

  • KarshiKhanabad

Said this a hundred times, but when six million Arab Muslims are surrounded by three hundred million screaming mad Jews, then I'll sympathize with the Arabs. Until then, long live Israel!

There are thousands or millions of Chomsky followers, buttressed in their ideology by such Hollywood stars as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, and SNL writers, plus major universities. I wrote about Chomsky's duplicity on the Jewish problem here: http://clarespark.com/2009/08/19/noam-chomskys-mi…. "Noam Chomsky's Misrepresentation of Walter Lippmann's chief ideas on manufacturing consent." Doubt that either young or old Hollywood, let alone the universities, ever heard of Walter Lippmann.

… "'until the “Occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem' ends": as if… hasn't it been quite some time now that Jordan and Egypt have left those places?

Most people don't even realize that the majority of the money the US gives to Israel are in the form of Grants that are paid back over time and with interest. Currently Israel is still paying back money granted to them by the US. Most appropriations debates when it comes to Israel is how much bartering is done to chip away at Israel's over all debt in exchange for technology and intel they share with us. This year $3.1 grant was approved to Israel, and in 5 years they will have made payments on it of $3.3 – $3.5 Billion depending on an already being negotiated arangement regarging the new missile defense system (Iron Dome) and how many Israel will manufacture for us. Rafael is manufacturing them and depending on how many they make for the US depends on how much Israel pays back to the US.

On the flip side, all we get from all other countries in that region in exchange for our money is that they will behave themselves. We pay Egypt to cooperate with Israel, and Pakistan, we paid them over $8 Billion last year alone just to not use their Nukes.

So whish is the better deal for the US?

"We demand that our tax dollars not be used to violate the rights of Palestinians."

By the Left saying this (whether they know it or not), what they're really saying is that, "We demand that our tax dollars to be used to self-enforce jihad against Israel, to establish Islam in Israel, and to stage the next Holocaust." That's what they're really asking for, because they're actions will lead to such events. They're also asking for God to lift his hands off of America.

  • Drakken

Now wouldn't it be too bad if say 100 supporters of Israel showed up and pelted the traitors with 5 water balloons each with red paint, yeah that would to bad wouldn't it?

  • Duke

Is it at all just chance that this will be held on "Gun Appreciation Day" Jan. 19 when most conservative americans will be out supporting 2nd amendment rights?

These folks are learning well from the arabs

There are FOUR likely reasons this is being done this Saturday:
    1) OBAMA'S INAUGURATION
    2)HAGEL Hearings
    3)BRENNAN Hearings
4)SATURDAY/THE JEWISH SABBATH (NOTHING like a SLAP,THAN THE "KNIFE',FOLLOWED BY TWISTING SAID 'KNIFE").

“the Occupation is the root cause of the violence."

    one question: what Occupation?

when these people talk about "occupation," they're not talking about the centuries that Britain, Egypt, Jordan, the Ottoman Empire, and who knows who-all else held the land. and they're not talking about Gaza, Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem, or apartment buildings or the freaking E-1 corridor or any of that.

they're talking about the 64-year-long occupation of the land by the Jews. that is what the "Palestinians" and their western enablers mean by occupation. this is why the "peace process" is a sham and why there will never be peace until (as poor Mitt Romney pointed out, to disdain) the Pals give up on the idea of killing all the Jews. and realistic people understand that we shouldn't hold our breath.

the majority of Israelis would be overjoyed at a two-state solution where the Pals weren't constantly throwing rocks and blowing up cafes. it's not the Israelis standing in the way.

I find it very disgusting that the once Christian Churches that have been taken over
and undermined by leftists are behind the attack on Israel. Leftists like a disease have
infested everything American and the Churches have been a prime target for the
false teachers of the left. They are not Christians and like all leftists are frauds.
    William

  • Rosalie Laughton

I would like Helen Thomas to explain exactly where “Palestine” is and when it was created as an internationally recognized state.
The fact is that the “Palestinians” are living on Israeli land (look up San Remo Conference and League of Nations’ decision to create a State homeland 1922- for the Jewish people – International Law). The land that was set aside for the Jews included Judea and Samarea, Gaza and what is now known as Jordan. The Jews agreed to give what is now known as Jordan to the Arabs and then also agreed to share the remainder with the Arabs, so that they could have a State of their own. The surrounding Arab leaders refused a State and immediately the State of Israel was declared, she was attacked on all sides by 5 Arab nations.
The option to have a state was not accepted … what is now called the West Bank by the enemies of Israel, is none other than Judea and Samarea. Yes this is occupied territory….it is occupied by the “Palestinians”!
