Time to Label Nigerian Schoolchildren Slaughterers ‘Terrorists’

tahmasebi20130707214112120The Clarion Project has started a petition to designate the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram as—well, a terrorist group. The Obama Administration’s desire to end the war on terror and not pick any new fights is overriding common-sense and moral clarity. The United Kingdom has just branded Boko Haram as a terrorist group, so it’s up to American citizens to sign the petition and tell their government to stop dragging its feet.

Boko Haram, which loosely means “Western education is sacrilege,” just carried out an attack on the “sacrilegious” by massacring about 30 students and one teacher in a boarding school. The toll of the attack goes beyond the casualty numbers. Think about the parents who had to identify the scorched bodies of their children and the innocents that shiver in fear every school day. This is the third attack on a school this month, and we’re less than two weeks in.

In May, the Religious Liberty Director of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, Faith McDonnell, wrote that “Nigeria had a higher death toll from anti-Christian persecution and violence than the rest of the world combined.”

Boko Haram has carried out a bombing almost every week since August 2011. Churches are a frequent recipient of the group’s Islamism-fueled wrath. It is for this reason that the Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans is demanding that Boko Haram be designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization “for the umpteenth time.”

Although three of Boko Haram’s leaders were labeled as “Specially Designated Terrorists” in June 2012, the group as a whole is not labeled a Foreign Terrorist Organization.  The State Department says that a Foreign Terrorist Organization must obviously be foreign, engaged in terrorist activity and threaten the U.S. and its nationals.

There is no way to contest that Boko Haram meets this criteria. The reason it has not been designated comes down to the simple fact that the Obama Administration doesn’t want to. President Obama says that certain Al-Qaeda affiliates shouldn’t be on the target list because “not every collection of thugs that labels themselves al-Qaeda will pose a credible threat to the United States.” He argues that Boko Haram and other African extremist groups are motivated by a frustration over poor governance.

Similarly, Johnnie Carson, an Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of African Affairs, told Congress in July 2012 that Boko Haram shouldn’t be labeled a Foreign Terrorist Organization because “our understanding is limited at best” and its violence is triggered by “social, economic problems.” He discredited his own thesis by referring to Boko Haram as a “terrorist organization” in his answer.

As McDonnell explains, “In their many publicly released statements and videos, Boko Haram has never declared poverty and marginalization to be a motive for their actions. On the contrary, they state clearly that their actions are a ‘jihad’ (Holy War).”

In fact, Boko Haram leader Abubaker Shaker makes it clear that altering policy isn’t his objective. He said, “We will consider negotiation only when we have brought the government to their knees…we will only put aside our arms—but we will not lay them down. You don’t put down your arms in Islam, you only put them aside.”

Nor is Boko Haram’s goal limited to Nigeria. In November 2012, Shekau said, “O America, die with your fury,” and said the group supports jihadists in Afghanistan that are fighting U.S. forces, as well as jihadists in many other Muslim lands.

According to the State Department, if a group is labeled a Foreign Terrorist Organization then it becomes illegal for anyone in the U.S. to provide material support to the group; any financial institution must freeze and report its assets; and members of the group are barred from entering the U.S. and ones that are already here could potentially be deported. It is shocking to think that these measures aren’t already in place.

Boko Haram’s connections with other Al-Qaeda affiliates considered to be Foreign Terrorist Organizations further highlight the absurdity of the exception made for the Nigerian group. A spokesman said in January 2012, “We enjoy financial and technical support” and that its leaders have met with Al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia. Boko Haram has also been linked to Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

In February, a former Al-Qaeda chef in Mali said that hundreds of Boko Haram members had trained in northern Mali, and personally prepared food for 200. They “arrived in Timbuktu in April 2012 in about 300 cars, after al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) swept into the city.”

Amazingly, the campaign to get Boko Haram designated for what it undeniably is has received scant attention from the media. The petition was sent to major outlets with no response. The Premium Times of Nigeria and AllAfrica.com are, thus far, the only two news sites to pick it up.

The silence is even more surprising when you consider how clear-cut of a case this is. Unlike the Muslim Brotherhood or Hezbollah, Boko Haram doesn’t have eloquent defenders in the West. It doesn’t sit in a grey area to portray itself as “moderate.” It is, by its own reckoning, in Al-Qaeda’s ideological camp and acts accordingly.

Sign the petition now and send it to your friends. It’s time to let the White House know that the country will not be silent as Boko Haram slaughters Christians and rival Muslims.

Hmmm, strange that Obama wouldn’t want to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist group…
    OR IS IT?

    • objectivefactsmatter

According to 0′Bama, we’re the terrorists and he’s the leader of the perpetually aggrieved jihadis. Not that he’s a muslim of course.

  • Taimoor Khan

What about killers of Palestinian children? Iraqi children? Afghani children? Time to label them as terrorist too!

    • Aizino Smith

Yes, Time to label the Taliban, Saddam Hussein, the Baathist parties and similar people as terrorists.

Muslim extremists typical target hospitals, markets (souks), & mosques.

Muslims use mosques as ammunition depots, command centers, sniping posts. In the past Muslims have used the Parthenon as a ammo depot.

Hamas & Hezobllah have used schools and UN observation posts as places to fire their artillery unprovoked.

Muslims kill non Muslims (Bahai, Kurds, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Shinto, African polytheists) and muslims (Shia, Alawites, Sufi, etc).

The longer Muslims hold as much sway as they do, the more likely the whole planet will turn into desert and mankind will be reduced to a few tribes fighting over a few watering holes. If there is a Caliphate mankind will die out long before the sun turns into a red giants and burns the earth to a cinder.

Where were you when the Taliban took over Mazar-i-Sharif and massacred its’ citizens? Celebrating?

    • FlyOnTheScrtm

Does that justify killing school children in Nigeria to you? What have Nigerian children got to do with all these places you cited? Think and stop this equivalent evil theory that you and many are using to destroy the world.

      • Phil McMorrow

It’s pointless to discuss this issue with a Muslim apologist. Logic means nothing to individuals such as this clown.

      • objectivefactsmatter

They’ve got grievances and Mohamed informed them that jihad is always defensive. Therefore others must always be at fault. Mo said so.

    • Aizino Smith

      Taimoor

google car bombings of hospitals and markets. Al Qaeda and the Taliban did that all the time.

I have to admit it is pretty gutsy to drive a car or truck up to a hospital, blow it up and then say other people are worse than you.

It is not like it is an accident.

    • objectivefactsmatter

“What about killers of Palestinian children? Iraqi children? Afghani children? Time to label them as terrorist too!”

Hamas, Fatah, al Qaeda, Taliban, Hezbollah, etc. are all terrorists.

      • ObamaYoMoma

BHO and the self-hating left love to blame America first for creating terrorism. However, Muslims never fight terrorism. Instead, they fight jihad, which is holy fighting in the cause of Allah for the establishment of Islam via the imposition of Sharia, which is Islamic totalitarian law. Thus, how can America be the blame when Muslims have been fighting jihad against all religions and all infidels since shortly after the Hijra in 622 AD? The answer is it can’t, especially when most people are too ignorant of Islam to understand that jihad and terrorism are two very different manifestations.

Barack respects and admires Muslim savages. That is the reason for his actions or non-actions.

Mabus (Obama) criminal is starting to show his true colours.

How did America fall? Why so easily?

Thanks for the mentions, Ryan! And for starting this petition campaign. I will tell my fellow Northern Nigeria Task Force Members about it. They will be encouraged. Take care. Faith

Keep us up to date please.

  • glpage

Why should Obama and the left care about Boko Haram and their activities? They don’t care about black on black crime here, why worry about similar activities elsewhere?

  • Gee

But just last week the President declared that the problem in Nigeria is because they have a CHRISTIAN President.

    • objectivefactsmatter

Correct. He said that. Can you imagine how offensive that is to Muslims? It (like most things) slanders the “prophet of Islam.”

The Clarion Project has started a petition to designate the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram as—well, a terrorist group. The Obama Administration’s desire to end the war on terror and not pick any new fights is overriding common-sense and moral clarity.

I hate to rain on this writer’s idiotic parade again, but Boko Haram is not a terrorist group, it’s a jihadist group, as terrorism is not holy fighting in the cause of Allah for the establishment of Islam via the imposition of Sharia, which is Islamic totalitarian law. That’s jihad instead and jihad is not only the highest pillar of Islam, it’s also a fundamental holy obligation incumbent upon all Muslims in one form or another.

Indeed, terrorists like Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn were not fighting jihad in the cause of Allah for the establishment of Islam. Instead, they were unhinged leftwing loons that turned to terrorism. As a matter of fact, Muslims and only Muslims fight jihad. Meanwhile, everybody else and their brother other than Muslims perpetrate terrorism for various political causes having nothing to do with the establishment of Islam.

Not to mention that jihad, in stark contrast to terrorism, manifests both violently and non-violently, but astronomically far more non-violently relative to violently, while terrorism is always only violent. However, because jihad is almost always conflated as being terrorism, which is always only violent, the non-violent varieties of jihad take place completely under the radar and totally unopposed today. In fact, one of the most ubiquitous forms of non-violent jihad flying under the radar today unopposed is mass Muslim immigration to the West for demographic conquest.

Additionally, common sense dictates you don’t declare a so-called “war on terrorism” because terrorism is a tactic utilized by political extremists having exactly nothing to do with Islam and it’s ludicrous to declare war on a tactic in any event. Thank you GWB, you moronic loon!

Furthermore, someone tell GWB that Muslims aren’t terrorists. Instead, they are jihadists and they pursue jihad against all religions and all infidels via violent means and non-violent means, but again astronomically far more non-violent means relative to violent means. Indeed, the backwards ass Islamic world can never hope to defeat the West via violence, but via stealth demographic conquest through mass Muslim immigration they can and will defeat the West if the West continues electing losers like GWB and BHO. As a matter of fact, large swaths of Western Europe will begin turning Islamic in the next 30 years thanks to the blind stupidity of our illustrious leaders on both sides of the political aisles.

The point is that the only way we have to deal with Jihadist groups , which yes, we all know that Boko Haram is a Jihadist group, is to designate them as FTO’s. If we had a Foreign Jihadist Organization designation, we would ask for them to be added to that, too! Instead of standing on principle that gets you squat, you deal with what you have been dealt. If we can get BH called an FTO it would help to stop them.

Actually jihad is the highest pillar of Islam and is a holy obligation incumbent upon all Muslims in one form or another. Thus, all Muslims are jihadists in one form or another. Otherwise, they are blasphemous apostates that per the texts and tenets of Islam must be executed. Hence, what do you mean Jihadist groups? What about the millions that already live here in America?

Meanwhile, we are importing Muslims to the USA in mass, which is really stealth and deceptive non-violent jihad for the purpose of demographic conquest, and never mind the fact that due to the current false narrative jihad is always conflated as being terrorism, which is always only violent, and because non-violent stealth and deceptive jihad, such as mass Muslim immigration to the West, of course, isn’t violent, it therefore isn’t considered to be terrorism and thus is able to manifests totally unopposed. Didn’t we learn anything from the Cold War? Apparently, not!

Why can’t the US officially recognize that Islam is a totalitarian cult masquerading as being a religion to dupe its intended victims? Then outlaw it, ban and reverse mass Muslim immigration with all of its excess baggage ASAP, and finally abandon and isolate the Islamic world, because it is only through interaction with the Islamic world that enables it to potentially harm us or anyone else.

Instead of standing on principle that gets you squat, you deal with what you have been dealt. If we can get BH called an FTO it would help to stop them.

Isn’t that what GWB was doing in Afghanistan and Iraq? Which inevitably turned into the two biggest strategic blunders ever in American history. Can’t we learn from our past mistakes? Or must we be doomed to repeat them forever? I certainly don’t hope that you believe that Afghanistan and Iraq are somehow victories like most Republicans today.
