Casualties in Perspective

israeli-tankThus far, 32 members of Israel’s Defense Forces have been tragically killed while defending their homeland. Hamas has likely suffered more than 10 times that amount but that will be confirmed after the dust settles when an objective analysis, unmuddied by Hamas shills, can be performed . Every one of those IDF boys represents the salt of the earth but now is not the time for despondency. Now is the time for fortitude and perseverance.

Just to place things in proper perspective, 6,000 Israelis were killed during Israel’s 1948 War of Independence. 700 died during the Six-Day war and 2,200 died during the Yom Kippur War. No one back then dared to question the nation’s resolve or suggested anything short of complete victory. The people of Israel were aware of the stakes. They were cognizant of the fact that a loss would spell disaster and so they persevered and endured and grieved only after the battle was won.

A few more little known facts. Tiny Finland, whose population in 1939 stood at just under four million, suffered 26,000 killed during its heroic stand against the Soviet Union shortly after the outbreak of World War II. Twelve thousand American soldiers died in 1945 while securing fortress Okinawa, a spec in the Pacific which the Japanese transformed into a modern-day Shuja’iya. A tiny pimple of a hill on that island called Sugar Loaf produced a 7-day battled that claimed 2,000 US marine casualties.

No soldier, not the heroic Israeli Centurion tank commander on the volcanic, rocky plateau of the Golan Heights, or the paratrooper advancing on Ammunition Hill, or the muddy, drenched marine on Okinawa, or the frozen Finnish soldier facing off against a Soviet tank with a Molotov cocktail, ever wavered for a second from the ultimate goal, which was total defeat of the enemy. During the early 1950s, Moshe Dayan gave a standing order to his troops that unless they suffered casualties in excess of 50%, they were required to carry on with the mission at hand. There was to be no retreat, no surrender. That spirit and ethic carries over to the IDF till this day.

Israel is a small country where everybody knows everybody and everyone has a friend who has a friend. Naturally, Israelis are sensitive to casualties perhaps more so than other nations and certainly more so than its genocidal neighbors where wholesale slaughter is the norm. But casualties, however painful, are a predictable byproduct of war and no one expected an incursion into Gaza, with its labyrinth of tunnels, abundance of human shields and dense urban environment, to be a cakewalk.

The fascist, soulless enemy is aware of Israel’s sensitivity and attempts to exploit it to their advantage by engaging in psychological warfare, making extravagant claims that are steeped in fantasy. Thus the “capture” of an expired soldier’s dog tag is immediately and absurdly transformed into a kidnapping and the firing of an anti-tank missile that is intercepted and obliterated by a Trophy anti-missile defense system immediately produces false claims of a destroyed Merkava.

But what the enemy doesn’t realize is that Israel’s perceived sensitivity to loss of life is actually its source of strength. The sanctity of life is paramount and that is why Israel’s soldiers fight with such ferocity and heroism for they know that while they are fighting a genocidal, maniacal enemy, they are protecting their wives, husbands, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters.

As the IDF continues its mission, the nation of Israel stands unified and solidly behind the army’s efforts. More casualties are expected but the IDF will ultimately prevail and enemy will be destroyed, just as he was in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, 1982, 2002, 2006, 2009 and 2012. Israel had to win those wars because a loss would have produced the unthinkable. This war is no exception.

Israeli pilots, tank commanders, ship commanders and their commanding officers need to face war crime charges for their murderous acts against innocent civilians.

    • Hank Rearden

Give it a rest. Nobody believes that. Your problem is that you think the Israelis fight like your guys. Everybody knows that Islam is a synonym for savagery.

      • Lataan

It seems quite a few in the UN believe some Israelis have crimes to answer for.

        • Hank Rearden

The UN??? rotflmao!! The UN??? You mean that collection of dictators and embezzlers? THAT UN????

          • Lataan

            Whatever.

          • UCSPanther

As if being lectured on human rights by the likes of the PRC, Iran, Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia is morally superior…

          • Lataan

The US with its history of detention without trial at Guantanamo and torture at Abu Ghraib is not in a position to criticise other nations abuse of human rights.

          • Drakken

Muslim jihadist have no human rights, they lost that right when they went jihad on the west.

          • Lataan

One could say the same thing about the West when they went to war against Islam. The West ignored the human rights of millions of ordinary Muslims went they went to war in their lands in 2002 and 2003. They still are.

As for the jihadists in Iraq, they’re no better than the US in Iraq.

          • UCSPanther

Oh yeah, let’s not forget Sudan and Belarus. Those places are also known to place great regard on human rights.

That is why the UN is such a joke.

          • Camilla Brieste

I am just beginning to undertake learning more about the UN as I’ve been puzzled to see them meddling in some US legislative topics, and “humanitarian” affairs in Detroit, subject “water”. And yet, I’ve not seen any journalistic inquiry, which I find also curious. Why are they messing in US affairs that have nothing to do with their otherwise more global objectives.

For them to now aid Hamas, a terrorist organization, in addition to not helping Christians being persecuted and killed globally, should I make the assumption that with exception of Islam, they will never extend “humanitarian” or peace-keeping efforts to aid Jewish or Christian citizens?

          • Hank Rearden

            Exactly.

Whatever the aspirations were when the UN was founded – FDR who was its advocate saw it as an institution to prevent another world war – it has become a club for third-world dictators. These are evil men who keep their own people down for their personal power and enrichment. Being evil themselves, the UN is commensurately evil.

They hate the first world, the world that the English-speaking people have created. It is a standing rebuke to them. They have to convince themselves that our success is not do to achievement but to theft. So all the things that represent goodness in the world, that represent positive values, they are against. That is why they support the failed culture of Islam and hate the successful culture of the Jews. And the Christians. And that is true even as Islam spreads itself further into the third world.

But if you wonder what the citizens NOT represented in the third-world elites REALLY think, look at our southern border – people will do ANYTHING to get into the United States. But they will spew hatred for us if someone puts a microphone in front of them.

The UN investigating, say, Detroit, wants to show that the U.S. is not better, is in fact much worse than the third world hell-holes represented by the vast majority of the members of the UN. It is not a good-faith effort.

          • Camilla Brieste

Thank you Hank for this comprehensive reply; I have ordered 2 books on U.N. and hope to become better informed on “all” the entities that seem to have greater influence than voters or citizens anywhere do. Maybe voters never had that much influence anyway; but the Matrix made it appear we did.

Everything you have pointed out is very valid, makes a lot of sense. E.g., “Envy”, how true, how lethal an emotion.

Startling of course is to learn that SO MANY evil entities (and public figures) flourish these days, and many good people without informing themselves, know little of this and will inadvertently be supporting evil over good. This has become a cliche to say so, but such a problem. We’ll go down for the count like the EU without more people wising up. However, Americans have that independent spirit/streak (distressful to this administration and elites), that I hope will alter the course.

Timely is this new “ConservativeByte” article today on “U.N. Taking Control of the Southern Border” this is bad if true.
            http://conservativebyte.com/2014/07/u-n-taking-control-americas-southern-border/

            Thanks again!

          • Hank Rearden

            yaw! :-)

        • CowboyUp

The same UN whose Gaza school was proven to be used as a missile storage facility? They have no credibility.

        • Habbgun

I guess the UN is a the highest power. Good that you realize it. Now drop your belief in Allah. We’ll all be better off for it.

    • Captlee

War crimes for what? Protecting their country and their countrymen? Obviously you support the terrorists and Hamas. Pathetic P@S.

    • CowboyUp

What murderous acts against innocent civilians? The IDF goes to absurd lengths to avoid killing civilians, even though hamas uses civilians as human shields. Responsibility for the deaths of human shields falls on the party using them, not the party they are being used against. Try again.

    • notme123

      there are no “innocent” civilians.

    • Webb

      Har-de-har-har-har! Mr. Pants Pisser.

    • Habbgun

Sounds like your an Islamic. Here’s a question Islamics never answer. How come the feminists, gay marriage advocates, socialists, atheists, especially Marxist leaning atheists and just about every group that hates the idea of a Creator just loves Islam and Islam loves them back. I know they hate my religion in a big way. I’m proud of that.

Could it be they see your religion as a fake shell in which to further political goals and you see the same thing as well so it is a natural alliance?

Should anyone negotiate with people who will fake believing in a higher power? Do you have an answer? Every other Islamist just disappears. The truth is hard to counter.

      • Lataan

As an atheist I have no religion.

        • Habbgun

So you are one of the bums that are attracted to Islamists. I know why. You are drawn to violent people. Most Leftists are. I’m wondering why Islamists are drawn to you. Supposedly they have some belief in a higher power. I guess they really don’t.

          • Lataan

I’m guessing you are one of the bums that are attracted to Israeli Zionism. I know why. You are drawn to violent people. Most Rightists are. I’m wondering why Zionists are drawn to you. Supposedly they have some belief in a higher power. I guess they really don’t.

See how easy it is to write your kind of nonsense, Habbgun?

          • Drakken

Your nothing but a future Darwin Award winner, when you less than useless idiots openly side with vicious islam, your always the first lined up against ditches and walls.

          • Lataan

I’m always on the side of the righteous – not matter what their religion.

          • Habbgun

Righteous is not an atheistic concept. You really are an ignorant bucket crapper.

          • Habbgun

ROFLMAO —- What a little left wing white trash moron you really are. I real bit of trash. All you did hear was cut and paste and avoid all the questions. Not that that is a surprise. Deflection and snark is the left wing white trash method of argumentation. It is the only argumentation garbage like you have.

There was as you would have known if you could read instead of taking talking points from your animal trainers is that there is no natural basis for leftist, Islamic alliance.

You want gay marriage. They hang gays.
You want feminism. They want strict religious rules for women.

You want the world to think the right kind of human is who we can follow they supposedly believe in a higher being.

Like I said. You are the lowest form of humanity. Yes lower than the jihadis as low as they are so it is obvious why you would take to them. The real question is why they take to you.

You are nothing but a bucket crapper. Why people are drawn to bucket crapper types is beyond me. Then again I’m not a low life.

          • Lataan

I think you meant “all you did here was…” and not “all you did hear was…” Perhaps if learnt how to write before criticizing peoples reading skills then life would be easier for you.

I’m not in the slightest bit interested in your rabid anti-Islam racism.

    • Gee

Come and try it coward. The only thing they have done wrong so far it not kill every single terrorist – but they are working on it.

Hope you have a lot more to whine about soon

    • Drakken

It is called warfare you dumbazz lefty! I can’t wait until the same muslim savages that are in paliland show you what they are going to do to you in Europe.

      • Lataan

You might call it warfare but most call it a genocidal war crime.

        • Drakken

You can whine and scream like a little girl for all I care, it still doesn’t change the fact that war is being waged and it isn’t a crime, for the victors also make the rules shortbus.

          • Lataan

The victors certainly do make the rules and after WW2 they ruled that the sort of stuff Israel is currently doing is a war crime.

  • http://libertyandculture.blogspot.com/ Jason P

Israel has the right and duty to protect its people. Whatever it takes, we support you.

    • Lataan

Palestinians too have the right and duty to protect its people from Israeli terrorism. People around the world support them.

      • http://libertyandculture.blogspot.com/ Jason P

Barbarians have no rights. Gazans want to kill all the Jews and have been trying for decades. They don’t want peace. They want death and they’ve said so.

        • Lataan

The Palestinians both in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip have the right to defend themselves against Israeli aggression and war crimes.

          • Drakken

The arabs lost the wars they started, so to the Victors go he spoils, and you will get over it, or put up or shut the fk up you commi scumbag.

          • Lataan

True, the Arabs have lost a few wars but, contrary to your opinion, they were mostly, like the present one, started by the Israelis and supported by Zionazi scumbags such as yourself.

          • Drakken

I’m a Catholic you dumbazz, side with the muslims, your going to perish with them.

          • Lataan

So a Christian Zionist, I might have known.

      • fpm

It’s the surrounding Arabs who encouraged Arabs in west of Jordan river to abandon their belongings so they can attack Israel but later refused to accept those Arabs into their own countries when they have a chance. The USSR gave them such idea, as long as there’s this “refugee”, they can raise Jihad against the non-Islam world. Unless you are a devoted Muslim, you are just a useful idiot, said Lenin.

  • Fritz Kohlhaas

The UN is the most corrupt institution on the face of the earth!

    • Lataan

      No, the US is.

      • http://libertyandculture.blogspot.com/ Jason P

        Under Obama!

        • Lataan

          Under whoever.

          • Drakken

Well pizz off to the 3rd world you love and admire so much.

  • George Oligopolis

The free world is comparing apples with oranges when it does casualty counts. Are we simply dealing with a kamikazee death-worshipers that fear life more than death?

(from “Islam”, by Andrew Egan, 2002)
“Islam teaches that human life is one eternal life made up of two parts, life before and life after death. Muslims believe that the spirit of life that Allah has breathed into everyone is raised by Allah, from death to the after life. It is to be here, in the afterlife, that Allah will call all to account for themselves and judge them according to the way they have led their lives on earth.

“Life does not simply begin when we are physically born and end when we physically die. Really our lives belong into to Allah begin before physical birth and continue after physical death. This is really simple to understand when you thing of every human life as belong to Allah.”

(from “Life After Death: A Study of the Afterlife in World Religions,” By Farnáz Maʻsúmián, 1995)
“The term “hereafter” occurs 113 times in the Quran, and is indicative of the significance that Islam attaches to the next life.”

(from “Islam, Peace and Tolerance,” By Zahid Aziz, 2007)
“The fact is that martyrdom in Islam is a spiritual rank in the life after death.”

(from “What Everyone Needs to Know about Islam,” By John L. Esposito, 2011)
“To die for one’s faith is the highest form of witness to God. There is no God but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God. The Quran has many passages that support the notion of martyrdom and that comfort those left behind, for example: Never think that those who are killed in the way of God are dead. They are alive with their Lord, well provided for. (3:169)”

(from “Jihad: Bin Laden in His Own Words : Declarations, Interviews, and Speeches,” By Osama Bin Laden, 2007, interview of 2001)
“There are areas in all parts of the world where strong jihad forces are present, from Indonesia to Algeria, from Kabul to Chechnya, from Bosnia to Sudan, and from Burma to Kashmir. Then it is not the problem of my person. I am a helpless servant of God, constantly in fear of my accountability before God. It is not a question of Osama but of Islam and, in Islam too, of jihad. Thanks to God, those waging jihad can walk today with their heads raised. Jihad was present when there was no Osama, and it will remain as such even when Osama is no longer here. God opens up ways and creates affinity in the hearts of people
for those who walk on the path of God with their lives, property and children. Believe it! Through jihad a man gets everything he desires, and the biggest desire of a Muslim is life after death. Martyrdom is the shortest way of attaining an eternal life.”
