Severely Distorted Thinking about the Temple Mount

rabbi-yehuda-glick-3Jewish presence in the land of Israel goes back more than 3,000 years.  Jews prayed for millennia, while separated from the land, to be able to return.  Once they did return, the people sacrificed in order to build and protect the land.

And now, the Jew who is passionate about Jewish rights and Jewish attachment to the land is viewed as a “radical right winger,” a troublemaker.

The world at large certainly sees matters this way:  If only nationalist Jews would relent already, then Israel could reach an agreement with the Palestinian Arabs and there could be peace. But the fanatic and troublesome right-wingers keep getting in the way.

The reason that Jews who seek Jewish rights are seen as troublemakers is because the Arabs tend to negotiate by way of violence and threats.

A tendency towards violence is inherent in the Arab Muslim culture.  We are not looking at a modern phenomenon, but at a situation that has persisted for centuries.  We see it in the way children are treated in this society, and the fact that it is considered permissible if not necessary sometimes to kill women for the sake of family honor.  It is well known among those who deal with these issues that terrorists who kill Jews then mutilate their bodies.  Relief and satisfaction derive from gruesome expressions of violence?

The true roots of deep Muslim Arab anger, expressed via overt violence, are not “the occupation” or the lack of a Palestinian state.  Social scientists find it in such things as sexual abuse of young boys (also common in the culture); this perpetuates violence as the boys grow up angry.

But now the situation is being exacerbated by Palestinian Arab leaders, so-called, who use this tendency towards violence for political gain, inciting their people rather than seeking to reduce tensions in the street. They are manipulating the crowds. For the Muslim Arab culture that is so prone to violence is also an honor/shame culture.  The perception that they have been “dissed,” treated with disrespect, foments anger and then violence.  And the messages being delivered by the likes of Mahmoud Abbas to the Palestinian Arabs is precisely this: that they are being treated with disrespect by Israel.

This culture is not big on compromise, either. To compromise is to forgo part of what you are entitled to, and this diminishes your honor.

What happens then is that the Jew who seeks his or her rights is seen as “causing” Arab riots and attacks. How much more peaceful it would be, if only these Jews would stop insisting on things that irritate the Palestinian Arabs.   Sounds crazy/unreasonable/simplistic, but that indeed is what is happening.  Palestinian Arabs, who are collectively bullies, are being broadly embraced anyway.  Either their violence is perceived as justified, or it is simply deemed wise to give them what they want to keep them quiet.

It is particularly important to deal with this issue now because Rabbi Yehuda Glick, who speaks for Jewish rights on the Temple Mount, endured an attack on his life in Jerusalem last Wednesday and faces a long struggle for recovery. Since he was shot, he has been referred to again and again in the media as “far right,” “radical” and more.  No one says, “Well, he deserved it.”  But implicit is the notion that if only he, and others like him, were less passionate about the Temple Mount there would be less Palestinian Arab anger.  People like Rav Yehuda are seen as stirring the unrest.

But this has precious little to do with who Yehuda Glick really is:

Invariably, his friends and family say he is a gentle, non-confrontational soul, who would be delighted for good relations with Muslims.

He calls the Temple the House of Prayer for All Nations. This concept is built into Jewish tradition: In the days to come, all monotheistic religions are to have a share in the Temple to be built on the Mount one day.  Isaiah 56:7 – “…for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”

While he doesn’t back down from Jewish rights he readily explains this vision, describing the possibility that the Muslim Dome of the Rock could be retained as part of the Temple, if the Muslims would be peaceful and share in an effort to cooperate.

And he has been filmed joining in a prayer session with Arabs at the Mount.

Some radical extremist!

When Israel liberated the Old City and the Temple Mount in 1967, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan made a very foolish – a very bad – decision.  He turned to the Muslims in charge on the Mount – the Wakf or Muslim Trust – and told them that they would continue to manage day to day affairs there.

The worst of what he did was to rule that there would be no Jewish praying on the Mount, so as to not upset the status quo there.

It is not at all certain that Dayan’s motivation in doing this was proper, and it is clear that, as he was not a religious Jew himself, he saw the Mount more as a site of historical interest than one of on-going religious concern.  But we can give him the benefit of the doubt in this respect: he probably didn’t understand Muslim Arab mentality or how matters would evolve.

Over the years Jews have petitioned for the right to pray on the Mount.  This issue was last brought before the High Court in 2006, at which point it was said that only if “there is concrete information about actual danger to life” should Jewish praying be forbidden.  But ultimately, the matter was left in the hands of the police, who prefer preventing Jewish prayer so that it is not necessary to send in reinforcements to contend with Arab rioting.

But how outrageous that in the Jewish state, where the rights of all religious groups are protected, it should be impossible for Jews to pray in the place that is holiest to Jews.

Over the last few years, there has been movement by Muslim groups to libel Israel, in order to arouse the people: The totally fallacious claim that Jews are about to destroy the Al Aksa Mosque on the Mount has been put out regularly.

But now it has gotten much worse: there is a battle cry that the Mount is totally the heritage of the Muslims and that Jews have no business setting foot on it.  Declared Abbas just days ago:

“It is our sacred place, al-Aksa [mosque] is ours, this Noble Sanctuary [as Muslims refer to the Temple Mount] is ours. They have no right to go there and desecrate it.”

Abbas put out calls to “protect” the Mount from Jews. And then, when it was closed to everyone for a day, after the attempted assassination of Yehuda Glick, he called for a “day of rage,” because Muslims may never be prevented from entering the Mount for any reason.  This unleashed additional violence – with the throwing of pipe-bombs at police and much more in eastern Jerusalem Arab neighborhoods on Friday night and Saturday.

Palestinian Media Watch has reported that last week, before the conference on the Temple Mount, at which Yehuda Glick spoke:

“[F]ormer PA Prime Minister and PLO Executive Committee member Ahmed Qurei (Abu Alaa) issued a press release in which he condemned ‘the danger’ of the conference organized by Glick and warned of ‘extremist biblical plans encouraging settlers and extremist Jews to carry out large-scale invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and calling on the entire Jewish nation to invade the Mosque.’ He also stated that Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque are ‘undergoing one of the most dangerous periods since the beginning of the Israeli occupation’ and that it necessitates ‘immediate intervention.’”

At the same time, there has been a growing sense of outrage among religious Jews that prayer on the Mount is not permitted.  Members of the Jewish Home party have been advancing legislation that would allocate different periods of time and different areas for Jewish and Muslim prayer on the Mount.  This proposal, which is altogether fair and equitable, is modeled after the pattern of shared praying time for the Machpela [Cave of the Patriarchs] in Hebron.

It will not succeed at this point, however, because Prime Minister Netanyahu will block it.  His rallying cry has been one of calling for “restraint” and maintaining “the status quo” on the Temple Mount.

To Israelis, he is saying that he will not permit the advancement of legislation for praying on the Mount, and to Arabs, that he will not permit the co-opting of the Mount by Muslims in a way that excludes Jews.

It is easy to understand Netanyahu’s unease.  Now even the Arab League has weighed in with threats.  Arab League deputy chief Ahmed Ben Hilli has called on Arabs and the international community “to put a stop to these practices by the Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem. Touching Jerusalem will lead to results with untold consequences.”  But these are only threats.  The Arab states have enough on their plates to contend with, without throwing their weight around on this issue.

However, we must be honest and recognize that the time of the “status quo” has already come to an end. Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, Director of the Temple Institute, says the Mount “has become a stronghold of Islam. The Arabs get tons of money just to have a presence there and intimidate Jews who dare to ascend the Mount.”

Unless the Jewish presence on the Mount is strengthened, Israeli influence will continue to diminish, with consequences that are unthinkable.

As mentioned above, it is the Muslim Wakf that is in control on the Mount, at least theoretically. And it is a Jordanian Wakf (not a PA Wakf).  The Jordanians have a role in what is going on.

Their peace treaty with Israel notwithstanding, they participate in threats, and have done everything in their power to diminish Israeli influence on the Mount. King Abdullah has just declared that he will work against “Israeli unilateralism” in Jerusalem and there have been mumblings about Jordan breaking its peace treaty with Israel over these matters.

King Abdullah is shaky on his throne.  He is contending with a host of radical forces at his border, thousands of Syrian refugees inside of his border, and pressure from Palestinian Arabs. Thus he plays it in a manner that he believes will best protect him.

And, consequently, Netanyahu has always done a very careful balancing act with Jordan. It is in the Israeli interest that the king should not fall.

With all of this said, however, it is instructive to consider the text of the 1994 Peace Treaty Agreement between Israel and Jordan. With regard to this issue, it says (emphasis added):

ARTICLE 9

PLACES OF HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE

1. Each party will provide freedom of access to places of religious and historical significance

2. In this regard, in accordance with the Washington Declaration, Israel respects the present special role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Muslim Holy shrines in Jerusalem. When negotiations on the permanent status will take place, Israel will give high priority to the Jordanian historic role in these shrines. (This has to do with Israel not giving the PA priority on the Mount.)

3. The Parties will act together to promote interfaith relations among the three monotheistic religions, with the aim of working towards religious understanding, moral commitment, freedom of religious worship, and tolerance and peace.

Not only does this not give Jordan great power on the Mount, it would seem that Jordan has been severely remiss in meeting its responsibilities.  Freedom of access to places of religious significance?  Freedom of religious worship?  Well, now.

Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Habayit Hayehudi) has it right:

“I hear the Jordanians are threatening the peace agreement and [I] wonder if they have forgotten the Six Day War and the years in which King Hussein leaned on Israel. The Temple Mount and Jerusalem are under Israeli sovereignty just as Amman is under the absolute rule of Jordan. They should internalize this fact.”

THIS is the sort of talk we need to hear more of from the Israeli government.

The reason that Jews who seek Jewish rights are seen as troublemakers is because:

    (a) The Moslems tend to negotiate by way of violence and threats, and

    (b) The Eurabia and NWO have abandoned their own nations and national identities. If they did it to themselves, can they quietly watch that the so hated by them Jews do not follow the same “guidelines”?

However, with all due sympathy to the wounded Rabbi Glick, it is UNTHINKABLE to contemplate that the Muslim Dome of the Rock could be retained as part of the Temple! Unthinkable!!! Isaiah 56:7 said that “… My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples”: MY house, not their cult buildings! Nobody in the world can ever claim any rights for the Temple Mount – the God’s designated place for the Third Temple – see Item 5 of http://JudeoChristianAmerica.org/DeclarationForIsrael.htm

As to “the results with untold consequences”, they must be NUKING Mecca and Medina in order to do away with islam for the next 1000 years. It is a long overdue anyway.

    • Well Done

Islam has nothing to do with Jerusalem, at least not by an rational analysis. It is entirely based in Saudi Arabia, and has only claimed Jerusalem because that’s what Islam does; declare indigenous holy sites to be moslem holy sites. Every moslem “holy site” in India, for example, used to be a Hindu holy site.

      • Bamaguje

Didn’t you hear? Muslims have also expropriated other Jewish holy sites – Tomb of Patriarchs, Rachel’s tomb.

With regards to Moshe Dayan handing over custody of Temple Mount to the Muslim waqf, I don’t know how is Israel is run… but it seems absurd that a Defense minister would have so much power and authority over a religious issue… not about defense.

It is long overdue for that misguided policy to change. Muslims are not rational considerate beings to appreciate such friendly gesture. On the contrary it emboldens them to be more intransigent and intolerant as is currently happening.

“When negotiations on the permanent status (of Jerusalem) will take place, Israel will
give high priority to the Jordanian historic role in these shrines” – 1994 Israeli-Jordan peace treaty.

High priority to Jordan’s historical role? What ‘historic role’ would that be?
This is insanely absurd. Rewarding Jordan for invading the nascent Jewish nation in 1948 and then driving out the Jewish residents from their ancestral homeland.
This is how Israel shoots herself in the foot as she goes out of her way to accommodate unreasonable Arab demands.

For the umpteenth time, Muslims are not rational considerate beings to appreciate friendly gestures. Their Quran (3:28, 5:51) expressly forbids them to be friendly with non-Muslims, particularly Jews.
No amount of appeasement will make them see reason.
The only language they understand and respect is a superior capacity for violence, and an restrained resolve to use it.

In regards to Moshe Dayan and the Temple Mount. Tradition says that The Temple was located on the Mount, but this is not accurate GOOGLE ” New Evidence for the Temple Site in Jerusalem ” and/or purchase book by Bob Cornuke you will be amazed. The Mount was actually the location of The Antonia Fortress and home to the 10th Roman Legion. The Temple was to the south about 600 yds and in The City of David and OVER THE GIHON SPRING…..all Biblical. The Jewish council or The Temple Society know this but have kept silent as why let the arab world know. Please rd and be your own researcher. Moshe was told no questions asked to give it back and this is one main reason why.. Jewish people are not stupid . They could start The Temple TOMORROW.

There author writes: “The true roots of deep Muslim Arab anger, expressed via overt violence, are not “the occupation” or the lack of a Palestinian state. Social scientists find it in such things as sexual abuse of young boys (also common in the culture); this perpetuates violence as the boys grow up angry.”

While true, I think that explanation overlooks another and perhaps stronger reason for their anger (at the Jews at least) and one that often overlooked I suspect because of how politically incorrect it is….. Jealousy

The arabs sat on the land of modern day Israel for generations, and what did they accomplish with it? Nothing that I for one can see. In 1948, when modern day Israel was founded, it was the same desolate dustbowl that it had been of centuries… I call them arabs, because that’s what they were, There’s no such thing as a Palestinian. What everyone refers to as Palestine these days is simply a “region” of the middle east, in the same way that the Sahara is a region of Africa. The people who live there aren’t called “Saharans” There’s never been a nation known as Palestine, and Jerusalem has never been the capital of ANY nation other than Israel… But I digress… we all know that here, even if the rest of the world seems content to ignore the fact.

So along came the Jews in 1948, and it wasn’t long before that arab dust bowl was converted into a lush, green, modern paradise growing oranges the size of soccer balls. The arabs, most of whom SOLD their land to Jews at prices they were thrilled to get back then, (the Jews never stole one square inch of land from the arabs) look at it now, and it cannot be anything but a massive blow to their fragile and macho warrior self image, that those sub-human Jews could make them look like such a bunch of pathetic barbarians & losers.

Speaking of the “sub-human” (to the muslims) Jews, the other apparent reason for their anger, is that they, apparently, are the ones who may actually be…. sub-human, when looked at in terms of genetics and evolutionary development.

In a fascinating article by Ann Barnhardt, she writes:

“All human cultures display strict prohibitions against inbreeding and consanguineous marriage. Incest is a universal taboo. This is a transcendent anthropological fact. As a Roman Catholic, I attribute this to what is called “The Natural Law.” Every human person without exception is created by God with a deep, innate knowledge of good and evil, right and wrong. Stabbing someone in the neck for no reason whatsoever is just as wrong here in Lone Tree, Colorado as it is in the Amazon basin, as it is on the high plateaus of Mongolia.

But there is one culture, one faux “religion,” that expressly condones and encourages consanguineous marriage and breeding. That system is Islam, and the document that explicitly ratifies incest is the Koran, specifically Sura 4 verse 23,

      She goes on to write:

“Marrying your first cousin is the genetic equivalent of marrying your half-sibling. Think of your own family. Let’s say your dad has a sister, who is “Aunt Linda” to you. Your dad and Aunt Linda, being full siblings, have exactly the same genetic constitution. Their family trees prior to their generation are identical. Therefore, if Aunt Linda has any children, who are your first cousins, they are, in genetic terms, 50% identical to you. You share one of your two genetic constituencies with your cousins, thus making them genetically the same as a half-sibling would be.

First cousin marriage for just one generation is extremely risky in and of itself. This is why virtually every other culture on earth prohibits it, and treats it as a cultural taboo. When two people come together who carry so many similar genetic alleles, the chance of an undesirable recessive trait expressing itself in their offspring soars. Now, understanding that single-generational risk, understand that Muslims have been marrying their first cousins over and over again for 1,400 years. Sit in stillness for a moment with the full, terrifying gravity of this.”

She then points out that according to the BBC, 55% of Pakistanis in the UK are married to their 1st cousins, and even though they represent only 3% of the British population, they generate a full third of all births in the UK with genetic illnesses.

Her punchline however is what really caught my attention:

“As a direct result of inbreeding, the Muslim population is the only population on earth that is mentally and physically devolving. This inherent weakness makes Muslim populations more susceptible to nefarious, oppressive leadership and mass manipulation. The amount of objective evidence supporting this statement is colossal and obvious.”

      See: http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/04/the_keystone_of_the_islamic_mi.html

What’s really frightening to me, is this isn’t all that different from the theory of “Dysgenics” proposed by the Nobel Prize winning physicist William Schockley who I first ran across while reading his interview in Playboy some 30 years ago or so. (Of course we all read Playboy ONLY for the articles ;-)… after all, they even interviewed Ayn Rand back in the 60′s……

Shockley of course was branded as a racist, and totally ostracized from society. You can be sure however, that those theories are (quietly) very much in focus in the Agenda 21 crowd…

We need to look at the problem that the world of Islam has been causing for the entire civilized world for well over a thousand years, in a far more objective and dispassionate way, before we can ever hope to come up with a realistic solution to it of any permanence. The only short term solution they seem to understand is massive and overwhelming violent force.

The people in several European countries are finally beginning to realize what a bunch of crap their Marxist leaders sold them with their utopian dreams of multiculturalism. I fear there will be much bloodshed in the coming years as more and more people begin to learn the truth.

In the meantime of course, as the old Tom Lehrer song goes….

      “Everyone hates the Jews”

Actually, it’s not nearly that complicated. The sole fundamental purpose of mainstream orthodox Islam, which also happens to be the only kind, is to convert to Islam or otherwise kill all non-Muslim infidels through jihad, which is a so-called holy war waged universally by ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD and through the eventual imposition of Sharia, which is draconian Islamic totalitarian law, to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme throughout the world.

Indeed, jihadists don’t murder innocent civilians in cold blood like terrorists do because they are also terrorists too. Instead, it’s because they are waging jihad, which is a so-called holy war waged BY ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD against ALL INFIDELS IN THE WORLD, combatants and noncombatants alike, to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme throughout the world. Thus, since innocent civilian infidels make the easiest targets, then that’s who the jihadists primarily target.

        • swemson

If it were that simple, then why don’t we simply treat them all like the plague, and try to eradicate every last one of them?

          fs

          • Space Cowboy

Well since you mention it, it’s either we eradicate Islam or it will eventually eradicate us. It’s not like they leave us any other choice in the matter.

Eventually, the collective infidel world will have to wake up and unite together to eliminate Islam. Otherwise, the world will be ravaged perpetually by never ending jihad that will only grow more and more intense as we go forward.

          • neilwani

Islam is pretty much destroyed in the future Ezekiel 38 war with Russia and Persia involved. What comes after is even worse with the unholy trinity

  • Billiam

Are there truly Jews who, after all the evidence since ’48, think that the Arabs of Islamic bent will EVER truly live in peace with them there? That think peace is possible with those who’ve vowed to commit genocide, and wipe you out? People who are, even now, doing their level best to trash and wipe out every archaeological proof that the Temple was really there? I think there is a huge amount of Stockholm Syndrome, or pure idiotic, willfully blind denial among many Jews in Israel.

  • Space Cowboy

The world at large certainly sees matters this way: If only nationalist Jews would relent already, then Israel could reach an agreement with the Palestinian Arabs and there could be peace. But the fanatic and troublesome right-wingers keep getting in the way.

Actually, it has never been a conflict between just so-called Palestinian Arabs and Israeli Jews over illegally occupied land. Instead, it is and has always been a jihad, which is a so-called holy war waged by ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD in the cause of Allah against ALL INFIDELS IN THE WORLD to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme throughout the world.

Specifically in Israel, the Islamic totalitarian world is waging a jihad via their proxies the so-called Palestinians to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme in Israel, and, as a matter of fact, it is just one of many jihads waged all around the world against various infidels that all together collectively comprise the worldwide global jihad. Which is waged again to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme throughout the world.

Indeed, so-called Palestinians are not terrorists, i.e., radicals, extremists, and Islamists that stoop to terrorism and that like in all other societies comprise only a tiny minority. In stark contrast, ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD instead are jihadists in one form or another. Either of the violent variety (a tiny minority) or of the non-violent variety (the vast overwhelming majority).

As waging jihad, which is a so-called holy war waged by ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD in the cause of Allah against ALL INFIDELS IN THE WORLD to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme throughout the world, in Islamic totalitarian society is a fundamental holy obligation COMPULSORY for ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD in one form or another. Either via violence or non-violently via stealth and deception. Meanwhile, all non-conformers in Islamic totalitarian society are summarily executed for apostasy, blasphemy, or both according to the dictates of Islam.

Thus, the conflict in Israel doesn’t involve just Israeli society and just so-called terrorists, as Muslims aren’t terrorists. Instead, it involves ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD because ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD are jihadists in one form or another waging jihad against ALL INFIDELS IN THE WORLD to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme throughout the world.

Hence, Israel’s war is also our war since ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD are waging a so-called glorified holy war (jihad) against ALL INFIDELS IN THE WORLD to ultimately make Islam and its followers supreme throughout the world.

I cannot imagine a future timeline in which this Jerusalem religious dispute does not end in a bunch of nuclear mushroom clouds.
I there is a God, I pray that S/He considers a fully tectonic solution, replacing Jerusalem with a big, fat, 3000 meters tall volcano, that we could all worship as our very own Mount Fuji, with the added benefits of the best ski slopes in the entire vogging Middle East, and a much improved rainfall regime for Southern and central Israel.

    • JayWye

the formation of any volcano would wipe out most if not all life in the surrounding areas. Sulfur dioxide, acids, carbon monoxide, hot ash, lava flows. the quakes would collapse most structures. Look at that volcano in the Caribbean, one entire end of the island is unlivable. The other “tectonic” alternative is that the rift open up, the land sink and be flooded by the oceans, like Atlantis.

the simple solution is that the al-Aqsa mosque be removed. it doesn’t belong there.(and I’m not religious at all.) Move it to deeper into the West Bank, land that will be part of a future “Palestine”

      • Daniel L. Levy

I’m aware of that. The rift is indeed opening up, at its own geological pace: the Red Sea is a baby ocean. Israel has volcanoes, which are presently presumed extinct, but the uniquely poor faunal diversity of Lake Kinneret tells a different story, which happened about 12,000 years ago, a wink on the geological scale. BTW, look what I found yesterday on the tephra heap of Mnt. Avital on the Golan (Crocus cancellatus)!

        • Daniel L. Levy

          Uh, pic didn’t load!

It won’t be a volcano but an earthquake that radically shakes things up. Read Ezekiel 38:19-20. The earthquake will be followed by a northern invasion into Israel by an Islamic hoard.

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. ZECHARIAH 12:1-3

All of the hub bub you see in Jerusalem these past months has everything to do with the Second Coming. The Muslims are trying to prevent the building of the third temple knowing that Jesus Christ will one day sit in that temple and rule the world with a rod of iron. Of course the advent of Jesus puts an end to the all non-Christian religions including Islam.
