"Just as we see in the job market, the tax payer is picking up the slack to save the corporations money." Yes, now, the taxpayer is picking up the slack. Prior to that, it was the consumer who picked up the slack of those who did not have coverage or (if covered) couldn't afford treatment. One way or another, WE PAY.

Prior to the ACA, here, our health care system was the Titanic, heading toward that iceberg of costs we were incurring. People's insurance prices were going to skyrocket no matter who was in office. What Republicans always fail to mention is that they either A. Decided not to take leadership and pretended everything was fine because the quality of care we had was still high; or B. Did take leadership, and offered plans that have a lot in common with the ACA.

Republicans can win short term over the ACA, but what their alternative really is--and how different it is either from the ACA or the old model--remains to be seen. I don't know if anyone outside Ron Paul has proposed anything that could be actually called "conservative." Something like that would also have to have the economic ecosystem to match--something like your Namibian dentist.

I find it sad for the world that your business model of health provision for the people has caused such damage in the science and ricocheted around the greedy world, impeding progress.

There are certain articles in your Bill of Human Rights that should be exempt from profit and taxation and available equally to all. It is those many unnecessary people in this profitable food chain that should be scrapped, not the front-line providers.

The right to life is THE most basic human right and we are failing at even this level.

It used to be that a doctor was rewarded because he saved a life. Nowadays, hospitals in Britain receive a lump sum of around $50 for every old person they kill off.

That's because they have followed your American model and we now have rich blokes buying hospitals and old folks homes at knock down prices. Home grown doctors and nurses are being replaced by Eastern 'medics'. In Britain it is against the human rights of a nurse to be required to speak English and if you have ever traveled, you will know that a medical degree is very easy to acquire with very little experience.

I find it all rather frightening and if I feel something dreadful coming on, I shall either fly to Beijing or, depending on severity, somewhere like Namibia where, strangely enough, one can walk into a German dentist and receive the best treatment in the world immediately. One can get out of his chair and walk next door to a German doctor who will happily perform simple scalpel operations on the spot. If one is of a mind, it is possible to pop next door and deliver a baby. All these services are immediate and at affordable prices.

My money is on Health Tourism. The alternative seems to be death by rip-off.

There may be a lot of RINOS in the Republican party, but there are some genuine conservatives as well. The electorate needs to educate themselves as to each candidate and primary those who are liberals/RINOS. Yes, it is left/right. Avoiding the election of leftists is the game and the Republican party is the only place it is going to happen. You won't find any conservatives running on the Democrat ticket. When you just vote Republican without getting educated as to who that candidate is, it will end up seeming like a one party system. You need to learn the true position of each candidate and go to the primaries to get the right (not left) candidate running and then elected.

I sure hope something can be done to spare the insurance company executives any stress.
Is that it, black/white, left/right? What difference anyway. You seem to have one system regardless of Rep/Dem majority that benefits the middlemen rather that the suppliers of healthcare.

Same thing happening in Britain, where quality has been replaced by ... I was going to say quantity but, as more and more hospitals close down and frontline medics are replaced by imported 'doctors', many with fake documents and, no doubt, reduced salaries, one wonders where the money goes.

The argument put forward is -- in the spirit of 21st century anti-logical thinking -- that for-profit companies are far more 'driven' to provide the best service than central government inept, overpaid, corrupt, blah blah blah departments.

True, but they have been given a totally free rein and we can see from the cost/service ratio that the introduction of profit has had catastrophic effects on our health systems simply because there are no curbs on greed.

You all see the problem as Socialism whilst I see it as an escalation of a problem that already existed and was exacerbated by the American Dream.

It stands to reason you can't reduce your city to a Delhi-like situation where bodies lie around the place and, since we have the Human Right of medical assistance, everyone must be scooped up and treated by a 'qualified' medic regardless of status.

Insurance companies are intermediaries and should be paid a relative percentage profit for their input. As it is, their profits are such that their is little left for the 'qualified' medic.

Just as we see in the job market, the tax payer is picking up the slack to save the corporations money.

I see a lot of criticism but not a lot of 'system design'.

Well, Pelosi said Congress had to pass the bill to see what's in it. They did, and despite Obama's best efforts, the truth is coming out. Still, Pelosi says she's "proud" of Obamacare and urges Dims to "run on it and not away from it" in 2014. We, the people, are getting exactly what we deserve - we elected the Dims to a majority and will soon have the opportunity to vote again. If we don't throw those bastards out in mass, no one should complain when they (with RINO assistance, of course) make 20,000,000 ex-mexicans newly minted Dim voters. At that point, Obamacare will fade from view... as will what's left of America.
