The nature of humankind has not changed a whit. We still have all of the basic needs our fore bearers had. The satisfaction of these needs has driven our actions as individuals, pairs, groups, tribes, mobs, states, and nations. Desire to have more than what we truly need has been the driver of the excesses of individuals, pairs, groups, tribes, mobs, states, and nations. A person's nature does not truly change. His beliefs may. Age may slow the reactions. Wisdom may temper the response. But, emotionally we stay pretty much the same. More on wisdom as it relates to education. This process begins in the crib, possibly the womb. When a child is first born it needs everything from outsiders there is literally nothing it can or be expected to do for itself. Nor, should an infant be expected to control itself at all. But, as the child grows more and more control over itself must be required. This is the inculcation of morals, honesty, delayed satisfaction, respect for others, responsibility, sportsmanship, respect for self, must be taught We are not born with these characteristics. This is best done in the home. But, given the number of young people who come from badly broken homes it must be done in the schools. Value neutral, "non-judgmental", and other educational standards must be abandoned..

I picked this book up on Christmas vacation and was unable to put it down. It is a must read for anyone who wonders how we got to this place. More importantly this compilation should be required reading in colleges and universities to accurately explain the history of the sixties: who out grew the madness, who leveraged it for political gain and who were victims of the resulting chaos. I am looking forward the second installment!

"The fact that human nature in its fundamentals does not change" ?
I'm not sure that that can be called a fact what with evolution etc?
One fundamental in my experience is change itself.
Didn't Horowitz's thinking evolve?
I remember how I loathed the man when he was a Leftist.
I've been thinking lately that Conservatives might be the "Utopians"
and that Liberals are just stupid delusional idiots.
Billions of souls on different spiritual paths intersecting in an event timeline are going to produce good and bad and ugly.
What did Dylan sing?:
"And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice"
How can Liberals so blindly miss the obvious is what I want to know?

A must read. When a person searching for the truth of humanitarianism, under the guise of ideological communism, and discovers the higher accord of conservative realism, then lessons are by virtue written in a book to be told.

Nothing compares to experience. Social memes, theory and presuppositions are NOTHING, compared to the experience of objective analysis tempered by the soul of conscientious thought. David Horowitz has rose to the occasion.
