Thank You, ISIS

bnReprinted from National Review Online.

Beheadings of innocent human beings are unspeakable acts reflecting the barbaric savagery of the Islamic “holy war” against the West — against us. Yet despite the intentions of their perpetrators, they have had an unexpected utility. Their gruesome images have entered the living rooms and consciousness of ordinary Americans and waked them up.

The barbarity of the Islamic movement for world domination has actually been evident for decades: in the suicide bombing of the Marine compound in Lebanon in 1982, in the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, in the suicide attacks on Jews — men, women, and children — during the second Palestinian Intifada in 2000, in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001, and in the beheadings perpetrated in Iraq by al-Qaeda’s Abu al-Zarqawi and the Salafist group known as Ansar al-Islam during the Iraq War.

Unfortunately, the response to these barbarities on the part of the Democratic party and the liberal elites has been to condemn and marginalize anyone who called them barbarous. In their eyes, it is racist to use the word “barbarism” to describe the acts of any Third World people. To associate Islam with the Islamists was Islamophobic. President Obama is still trapped in this time warp, denying in so many words that the Islamic State is Islamic. For America’s commander-in-chief to make such an obviously moronic statement about his country’s enemy in wartime reflects how deeply settled is the ideology of protecting the Islamists (and jeopardizing the innocent). Even Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush, could not bring himself to describe the enemy as Islamic. Settling on “War on Terror” as a descriptive term was a way of eliding the fact that the savagery was motivated by not by nihilism but by Islamic faith. The Obama Democrats have gone even deeper into denial, eliminating “War on Terror” from the government vocabulary and replacing it with “overseas contingency operations.”

For more than a decade, a handful of conservatives, of whom I was one, tried to sound the alarm about the Islamist threat. For our efforts, we were ridiculed, smeared as bigots, and marginalized as Islamophobes. In 2004 I published a book called Unholy Alliance about the Islamist movement and the support it was receiving from the American Left. For my concern, Harvard professor and Islam expert Noah Feldman dismissed me as a “relic” in the New York Times Book Review. It was the last time the Times mentioned one of my books.

In 2006 and 2007, I organized nearly 200 “teach-ins” on American campuses, which I called “Islamo-Fascism Awareness” weeks. The idea was to legitimize the term “Islamo-fascist” as a description of the enemy confronting us. These demonstrations were attacked by the Muslim Students Association, which is a recruiting organization for the Muslim Brotherhood, and by Students for Justice in Palestine, a front for the terrorist party Hamas. They also inspired the contempt of the liberal Left. Joshua Micah Marshall of Talking Points Memo devoted two YouTube videos to ridiculing me for holding the demonstrations. Campus leftists called the students who organized them racists, bigots, and Islamophobes.

Resolutions denouncing critics of Islamic misogyny and terror as “Islamophobes” were unanimously passed by leftist-run student councils at UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, and a dozen other elite schools. Lengthy reports on the menace of Islamophobia targeted me and other speakers at our campus demonstrations, including Robert Spencer and Daniel Pipes. These reports, costing tens of thousands of dollars to produce, were published by FAIR, CAIR, the egregious Southern Poverty Law Center, and the Center for American Progress — the brain trust of the Democratic party.

And then came ISIS. The horrific images of the beheadings, the reports of mass slaughters, and the threats to the American homeland have accomplished what our small contingent of beleaguered conservatives could never have achieved by ourselves. They brought images of these Islamic fanatics and savages into the living rooms of the American public, and suddenly the acceptable language for describing the enemy began to change. “Savages” and “barbarians” began to roll off the tongues of evening-news anchors and commentators who never would have dreamed of crossing that line before, for fear of offending the politically correct.

Virtually every major Muslim organization in America is an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, the fountainhead of Islamic terror. Huma Abedin, who was deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (and is still Clinton’s confidante and principal aide), comes from a family of Muslim Brotherhood leaders. Yet legislators who have the power to investigate these matters are still intimidated from even raising them. Representative Michele Bachmann, who did raise them, was excoriated as a racist not only by the Left but also by John Boehner and John McCain.

Language is a weapon in the battle against the threat we face. We cannot fight a war effectively when we cannot name the enemy or describe his methods or examine his influence on our own policy. The Islamic State has created an opportunity for common sense and realism to prevail. The tragedy is that it has taken the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Muslims and Christians in the Middle East and the ongoing extermination of the Catholic presence in Iraq to begin to wake people up. And, unfortunately, the president is still asleep or, less charitably, is hostile to American purposes, is hostile to the military that defends us, and identifies more with the Islamic world that has produced these forces who would destroy us than with the country he is sworn to defend.

I have a problem with the fact that the world, including a fair few anti-Islam/ist conservatives, only have a problem with ISIS and Muslim fanatics when they behead white American and Brit hostages; but when they do the same thing to thousands of local Arab people, fellow Muslims, Christians, Yazidis, Kurds, and worse, it’s crickets.

Kobani stands at the threshold of a mass slaughter, it’s on the brink and nobody really cares, and no not anti-Islamist conservatives neither. Don’t see too much chatter about it all, a very little bit, but not much. Foley and Sotloff’s beheadings got far more attention, that’s two people. I guess the lives of two Americans – both of whom frankly were dhimmis – are worth more than the lives of thousands of Kurds.

If this isn’t a kind of racism, I don’t know what is.

    • Hank Rearden

,,,and therefore you are denouncing Democratic leaders and our president, right?

You are praising David Horowitz for his unflinching advocacy against the Islamic threat for over a decade, right.

You are disgusted with those people who attacked Michelle Bachman and her four colleagues for wanting to investigate the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama admin, right?

You are praising Michelle Bachman’s character and courage to stand up to condemnation and ridicule, right?

You are in awe of Robert Spencer and Steve Emerson who have been proselytizing about the Islamic danger we face, right?

You are appalled at the MSM who have given CAIR a platform to lie to the American public, right?

You are impressed by the courage and clarity with which Allen West has taken on this threat, right?

You are appalled at Muslim anti-Jewish influences and votes on college campuses, right?

Brandeis destroyed its reputation in your eyes for disinviting Ayaan Hirsi Ali because she speaks the truth about Islam, right

I just wanted to be sure I understood your point.

      • Michael Garfinkel

        Bravo, Hank.

Where does this person get the idea that people aren’t furious about the atrocities being inflicted on the Kurds, the Yaziidis, the Christians etc.

        Crickets?

I don’t see that at all.

I’m also puzzled by this peculiar obsession about racism.

The old joke was that people looked under their beds to check for communists.

Now people are looking everywhere for “racists,”

      • steelraptor from Saturn

Hank I don’t mean all anti-Islamist conservatives, agree with you naturally on Spencer, Bachmann, the Democratic Party, the MSM and CAIR. I don’t see how the mainstream Republicans are any better than the Democrats though.

What I mean is that the MSM and MANY anti-Islamist conservatives make a bigger fuss about the beheadings of two dhimmi Western men than they do say the rampagings of Islamists in Nigeria, Mali, the CAR, Thailand, Somalia etc.

        • Hank Rearden

I understand your point. I just don’t agree with it. You are trying to say that nobody cared until it was two white men. I think the reaction would have been the same if it had been men of any color. It was the up-close-and-personal nature of it that was so dramatic. The sense that we all had of what we would be thinking on our knees there waiting for that knife.

And Allen West HAS been speaking out on Islam. It is one of the things that the Dems try to use to paint him as “crazy.”

And there is another point here. Both our president and bien pensant (as Margaret Thatcher used to say) workd opinion have picked up the theme of America being too dominant, too pushy, too UNmulti-culti. And then you turn around and say that we haven’t been dominant ENOUGH, active ENOUGH in this foreign cultural savagery. And I don’t buy that criticism.

The only people in recent years who have pushed back physically against aggressive, savage Islam, has been Israel and universities here, governments in Europe, Obama can’t condemn Israel enough for that and are trying to excommunicate her from the world community.

It’s not unusual. People respond when they see the face of an individual. Mass slaughter is statistics. Horowitz is saying what you say: the jihadists have been committing atrocities for some time and the media has minimized it. These recent beheadings have woken people up. Now if they would have just considered our critique they would have known about this savagery.

Exactly, the barbarity of ISIS, combined with their military success, has forced the media to abandon their “Obama Dome” and actually report the news. Now that people can see what is going on, they are naturally concerned. It looks like this is one crisis the Left couldn’t figure out a way to benefit from.

Believe me, the problem you think you have with what you perceive as conservative “racism” is the least of those you and the rest of us in the West are facing now.

I don’t know how it is on Saturn, but here on earth the jihadists couldn’t care less about the skin color of those they slaughter, they just enjoy the killing, period. Naturally, their racism – as well as their sexism – are as ingrained as they were in their model mohamed, and with his followers it is the real thing. Nothing you could even evoke or argue about, like you’d do endlessly in the West, without risking immediate decapitation.

Our problem is that we are currently facing conversion, enslavement or extermination by this totalitarian ideology that passes for a religion, and that we refuse to admit it, let alone fight it. Our armed forces are dismantled, the state of our economy is tragic, our frontiers have disappeared, we are witnessing the onset of a series of epidemics and not one day passes without the enemy gaining more ground and boasting of our impending defeat and genocide.

Instead, we are focusing on irrelevant issues such as feminism, sexual mores, racism, the palestinians, diversity or other nonsense. So you’ll forgive me if I refuse to take your “problem” seriously these days, I really have more important things on my mind. Like resistance to the enemy at our door.

    Indeed.

Earlier David wrote: “President Obama is still trapped in this time warp, denying in so many words that the Islamic State is Islamic.”

This Muslim born president who has DEEP sympathies for the world of Islam is trapped in nothing of the sort. Obama boasted in his Cairo speech to the Muslim world: “….my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims…So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed…..And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear….” (Applause.)

David concludes with: “And, unfortunately, the president is still asleep or, less charitably, is hostile to American purposes, is hostile to the military that defends us, and identifies more with the Islamic world that has produced these forces who would destroy us than with the country he is sworn to defend.”

Thursday, October 09, 2014 Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Obama’s job performance. This a shocking number of deluded Americans.

David: “We cannot fight a war effectively when we cannot name the enemy or describe his methods or examine his influence on our own policy….”

The last sentence says it ALL. OBAPUTIN is, as his contacts and his writings suggest at best a communistic, islamic leaning leader and at the very worst…a traitor. These words are thought by many in the country and race has nothing to do with it. Race is used by the Left simply to stifle and shame opponents of their nefarious agenda. HUAC must return to investigate all those siding with destructive communists and islamists through their actions….and their words. The loss of freedom and self government is growing more each passing day. Hold the Representatives in this government ACCOUNTABLE.

The rise to power of the left in our government has given a huge supply of oxygen to the fire of Islamic jihad. Without the leftists giving them support, they would still be on the slow track. I give our Leftist in Chief, and all his cohorts, full credit for creating this monster.

    • Steven Hecht

Our leftist government didn’t create this monster. It was there long before Obama was born. But he has indeed given it a huge supply of oxygen. As Hororwitz said, even Bush was politically correct to some extent. Steelraptor for Saturn correctly states that mainstream Republicans are not any better than Democrats on this. PC has taken over the country and threatens its continued existence as a democratic republic. The distortion of language Horowitz describes is part of PC. ISIS came along just in time. It brings a most effective blow to the Muslim Brotherhood in the free world with their stealth intifada. They can now protest all they want and try to distance themselves as does Obama but the damage has been done and will continue to be done. So far it has been only hapless journalists or wannabe do-gooders who lost their heads. Wait until some major leftie loses his. Sooner or later all the blinders will come off the eyes of the congenital morons with their political correctness and all the world will realize we are at war.

Then, the more Muslims that populate Europe, the political left will make more concessions and before you know it, sections of the Sharia Law are implemented and eventually, Islam becomes the dominant ideology. Before you know it, Europe will turn to sh.. just like the Middle East. Leaving Great Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand as the last outpost of western civilization. Islam does want to take over the world. The more power Islam gets, the more the Islams ‘moderates’ will start to reveal their true nature. I believe inside every ‘moderate Muslim’, is a jihadi just waiting for the right time to rise up.

David Horowitz is absolutely right in suggesting that ISIS’ behavior is beneficial to America. The irony is that the members of ISIS are honest, straightforward, devout Muslims, and the beheadings, enslavement, rape, etc are what they are called to do by the teachings of the Quran.

Extreme acts of evil have a corrective effect on most people’s moral compass. Pearl Harbor woke America up to reality in 1941, well after Japan and Germany had committed horrible atrocities. People wake up when they are suddenly aware that they are in the crosshairs.

Absolutely true! As disturbing, if not more so, is what I perceive as a diabolical connection to Iran, which was manifested by Obama’s refusal to support the Purple Revolution in 2009 and his enlistment of their cooperation to counter ISIS as well as his appeasement of its nuclear ambitions.

It was Jimmy Carter who allowed Islamist Iran to be born. It is Obama who will allow it to grow into the Monster that threatens the very existence of the world. While other countries were pulling their people out of Benghazi (they actually wanted to keep them safe – is that not a riot?) Hussein Obama not only didn’t get them out to safety he downgraded their security. Same deal with Ebola and Islamic savagery – other countries have closed off flights to Liberia, not Hussein, bring ‘em on in while he licks his lips dreaming of the carnage he’s causing because he HATES AMERICA when the heck are you idiots going to figure that out?

Bravo David. Most of us know Obama isn’t asleep. He’s been hostile to a constitutional Christian-Judeo culture since his ‘new left’ Ayer’s indoctrination. Islam is just a another tool to achieve the destruction of the America he resents.

Some people are waking up but most of them won’t until it hits closer to home. The relative argument between good and evil is slowly transforming to the real conflict between truth and lies, when ornate conjecture is superceded by the truth of stark savagery.

ISIS may be pushing the final agenda, all or nothing. Question is, will civilization protect itself in time to prevent another millennium of barbaric evil? And if civilization does declare war on Islam it should be completed in its entirety once and for all.

  • CurmudgyOne

President Obama is still trapped in this time warp, denying in so many words that the Islamic State is Islamic

If you are, in your heart, a Muslim (which Obama clearly is), then you would deny that the actions of these animals come from members of your religion. Obama says he’s Christian, but we all know his heart is Muslim: He observes their holy days, he ignores the Christian National Day of Prayer, etc. Take a look at his ring, which claims in Arabic that there is “no god but allah.” In his shoes, you, too, would deny that your religion was doing such things. After all, he is human, while these animals have long left behind their humanity.

Should we really shed crocodile tears when a couple of journalists – Jihadist sympathizes in general, get killed.

Obama is, and has been, an advocate for the Muslim Brotherhood. The same is true of Hillary Clinton. It would be very interesting to know if the members of the Muslim Brotherhood who Obama has appointed to his White House Advisory Councils received US security clearances, or were even required to take an oath of allegiance to the USA. It would be more interesting to know if John Brennan, Director of the CIA, reportedly a convert to Islam, was required to renounce the Islamic doctrines that, collectively, constitute “death to infidels”, in order to qualify for his appointment. Brennan refused to be sworn in using the Bible, and insisted on use of the US Constitution. I agree with the appropriateness of the Constitution, vs the Bible, but, the USA is a nation of “infidels”, non-believers in Islam. Do we have a man directing the CIA whose religion calls upon him to bring “death to the infidels”?

I judge people by their actions, not their words. In the case of Obama, both his words and actions demonstrate that he is an apologist for Islam.

    From FoxNews

President Obama condemned the “barbaric” murder of British aid
worker David Haines by Islamic State militants and pledged to stand
‘shoulder to shoulder’ with the United Kingdom.

Haines was abducted last year in Syria, and extremists released a video on Saturday showing his beheading.

In the statement released late Saturday, Obama said the United States
stands shoulder to shoulder with Britain in, quote, “grief and
    resolve.”

“The United States strongly condemns the barbaric murder of UK
citizen David Haines by the terrorist group ISIL. Our hearts go out to
the family of Mr. Haines and to the people of the United Kingdom,” the
    statement read.

The United States stands shoulder to shoulder tonight with our close friend and ally in grief and resolve.”

It was the US intervention that gave ISIS its recruiting power. However, there is still hope for the US if, and only if, it stays out of this battle.

The US has two Islamist enemies – Iran and Saudi Arabia. They are about to go head to head in what promises to be one of the most vicious wars since the Rape of Nanking. This is a reason to rejoice! Our enemies are about to engage in mass slaughter of each other.

Our only action should be to destroy whatever American military hardware that exists in the region.
