Al Qaeda in Iraq has nothing to worry about. Not unless it starts mislabeling fish caught in protected maritime zones. Or fails to state the supply chain for its seafood.

Secretary of State John Kerry is directing federal agencies to work together to develop a program to combat seafood fraud. Since there isn’t even a program yet, just a directive to create a program, it will be 10 years before various agencies ‘work together’ to hilarious effect, like when the federal Endangered Species Act tried to restore the Paiute cutthroat trout but was blocked by by the Wilderness Act because the location is so remote it requires a gas-powered generator for the auger – which can’t be used in wilderness areas.

But Obama is determined to fight seafood fraud and raise the price of fish. More regulations for controlling the supply chain will make it more expensive to catch and sell fish… and that will make it harder for working families to eat.

Not that Obama cares about working families except when he’s reading from a teleprompter.

Obama announced an initiative to tackle seafood fraud and illegal fishing in the United States. His announcement coincides with the Global “Our Ocean” conference convened by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

“By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and to ensure that seafood sold in the United States is legally and sustainably caught and to combat the negative impacts of seafood fraud on the United States…”

“It shall be the policy of the United States for all executive departments and agencies (agencies) to combat IUU fishing and seafood fraud by strengthening coordination and implementation of relevant existing authorities and, where appropriate, by improving the transparency and traceability of the seafood supply chain.  All agencies and offices charged with overseeing the seafood supply chain and verifying the authenticity of its products shall implement and enforce relevant policies, regulations, and laws to ensure that seafood sold in the United States is legally caught and accurately labeled.”

“There is established, as a subcommittee reporting to the National Ocean Council established by Executive Order 13547 of July 19, 2010 (Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes), a Presidential Task Force on Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing and Seafood Fraud (Task Force), to be co-chaired by the Secretaries of State and Commerce, or their designees.”

“Membership.  In addition to the Co-Chairs, the Task Force shall include designated senior-level representatives from:

(a) the Department of Defense;

That’s right. There will be a representative from DoD to fight “seafood fraud” which mainly consists of fishing more than environmentalists think should be fished.

Al Qaeda had better tremble in its moccasins. If it engages in seafood fraud, the task force will really come after it.

As al-Qaeda approaches Baghdad, the blathering of all the TV pundits who said that the terrorists probably didn’t want to seize Baghdad makes them all look a little foolish.

Oh well, what else is new?

Is that a real Obama sign illustrating this article? In New York City? I think its menu should read instead: Lies, frauds, scandals, fish stories, rubber chickens, and gyroscopic policy changes. Free coffee with every $100,000 donation.

Daniel, you’re just so 19th century thinking that a vicious, expansionist, murderous group taking over a large chunk of the Middle East is more important to his attention than “seafood fraud.” Come on. Get your priorities straight like our Great Helmsman.

    Settle down, Daniel.

“There must be some way out of here” said the joker to the thief
“There’s too much confusion”, I can’t get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.

“No reason to get excited”, the thief he kindly spoke
“There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we’ve been through that, and this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late”.

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.

So as a Christian you’re saying that we don’t need to assign watchers to the watchtowers?

Not at all. If you’ve been paying attention to my posts even in the most cursory way, you know very well that I favor continuing to develop and refine our surveillance and interdiction technologies to the point that we can monitor, analyze, and respond to every conversation and virtually every threat on a global basis in real time. The key will be to select and interdict those threats that actually threaten the national security of America and our allies, including Israel, and to refrain from acting and continue to monitor, the ones that don’t. It’s the only chance we have to survive in a world we can’t micromanage or control but which is becoming exponentially more dangerous with each passing decade.

Who in our republic is responsible and accountable for ensuring that our security is looked after?

Oh, that is funny even in the midst of our tragedy – “Cod Save America.”

This administration is reminding me about a scene in robocop 3, where Omnicorp was not legally allowed to kill off robocop, so they did the next best thing, they allowed every activist, politician and busybody the opportunity to meddle with him and his mission until he got to the point of wanting to commit suicide.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if that is what this administration is trying to do.

Obama is mocking us, turning our military into a laughingstock.
If you think this is bad, just wait.

There will be more, much more, and the mockery will become unbearable for those of us who understand the limits placed on government under the constitutionalist republic designed by our Founding Fathers.

“Seafood fraud” is committed by foreign companies, not American or Canadian ones. America cant fine them to death though, so they don’t have to worry about passing on the cost to their consumers.
