Anti-2nd Amendment Surgeon General Vote Shows Why Red State Dems Can’t Be Trusted

mary-landrieu

Call this one the revenge of the losers. Especially the big loser in Louisiana.

The Senate narrowly confirmed Vivek Murthy as the new surgeon general whose nomination was delayed for months in a fight over his comments alleging that guns are a public health issue. The confirmation represents a victory for gun-control advocates, even as recent polling has shown Americans moving in the other direction toward gun-rights protections.

Indeed, three pro-gun Democrats opposed the nomination on Monday evening: Sens. Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Manchin is up for reelection next year in an increasingly red-leaning state and is already facing Republican attacks—particularly on guns. Manchin, who won his seat in part thanks to his Second Amendment bona fides, lost the favor of the NRA in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings, when he cosponsored legislation with Republican Sen. Pat Toomey to tighten restrictions on gun ownership.

Murthy got supporting votes from the five Democrats who lost their seats in the 2014 midterm elections: Sens. Mark Begich of Alaska, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Mark Pryor of Arkansas, and Mark Udall of Colorado all voted for Murthy, despite having faced advertising that questioned their commitment to gun rights throughout their campaigns.

Does anyone really think that Manchin, Heitkamp and Donnelly wouldn’t have voted for Vivek if they were coming off a lost election? The Red State Dems these days tends to be a political prostitute rather than a moderate. Instead of conservative Dems holding office, the party has been hollowed out by the left with Red State Dems increasingly being the sorts of politicians who can turn with the wind.

    CDC Data:
    Unintended injuries (accidents)
    requiring emergency room visits :
    Gun related accidents = 17,362
    Total accidents = 29,437,493

This is .059% (that’s much less then one percent)
Yes, accidents happen. Before people had guns accidents happened with rocks, clubs, knives, swords, and bows + arrows. They still do. In fact they happen at a higher rate then they happen with guns, even now. You’re not going to convince anyone to give up a Constitutional Right for that.

    Accidental deaths involving guns?
591 people were killed in accidents involving guns
of 126,438 total. Again, less then 1/2 of a percent.
    (2011, CDC).

While 3,556 died in swimming pools and 36,280 were poisoned. Cars kill 34,000 and doctors mistakes kill 225,000. Hmmm.

Shouldn’t the CDC – a health organization, investigate the 225,000 killed by doctors mistakes before looking into my holster?

Its not the position of the surgeon General and the CDC to question the 2nd amendment which equivocally states the rights of citizens to protect themselves from the government, under the Constitution period, or determine rights by prying into medical records, a lot like the IRS persecuting and investigating people for their political affiliation.

“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.”
This sentiment describes our times as much as it did when it was written.

How DARE you question the Received Wisdom of the Government by quoting FACTS? ;-)

Red state Dem that they failed to mention is Florida’s Bill Nelson…..
Voters should remove him in 2016,

    • halevi

Florida is mixed or purple as they say.

      • Bamtastic123

Far closer to red. GOP Governor, state house and state senate is overwhelmingly GOP. All the state wide elected offices from Attorney General to Agriculture Commissioner are GOP except for Bill Nelson. and the U.S. house delegation is GOP by a large margin.

    • bobro

He is a zombie that votes however Harry tells him! A resident of FL

      • Bamtastic123

You are so right….We just got rid of Landrieu in Louisiana….
I used to live in Florida and I hope Floridians have sense enought to vote that Reid do-boy out of office.

  • Lanna

The red state Dems can’t be trusted because they say the right things to get elected and then when elected turn on the Constitution and rights of the people. Manchin may be in a tight position in the future if he is going to advocate gun control. The endorsement by the NRA is a powerful voting issue, especially since nations are being overrun with terrorists and people feel the government no longer puts policies in place to protect their rights.

Another run on guns and ammo by law abiding citizens. Obama and his corps of anti-2nd Amendment troopers initiated the greatest period of firearms and ammunition sales this country has ever seen.

It’s probably the only thing he has done to stimulate the economy. Ironically, the Left is creating a counter-culture of constitutional patriots.

Obama has redefined the term failure.
Yet I appreciate the one thing he has done for this Nation that has or will ever have a beneficial effect. He has become – America’s Greatest Gun Salesman – .
By doing so, he has strengthened our Gun Culture. More people own guns now, and the Second Amendment is more popular now, then in any period in our lives.
      Too Cool !

We cannot trust Red State Republicans, let alone Red State Dems…They are ALL against the American Citizen…

This Surgeon Gen. would not have been passed by the January 2015 New Republican Majority Senate.
The Senate was ready to recess but Ted Cruz called for the rare Saturday session
and block what would have been a recess to call for a unnecessary vote for the Democrat majority Senate to vote on Obama’s amnesty.
All he was doing is putting them on record which everyone already knew the Democrats support amnesty.
Ted Cruz left the Senate open and thus Harry Reid put up the Obama Nominees.
The Republicans when a majority in a few weeks, Jan 2015 will take on Obama’s amnesty and work on the defunding for starters.
The Surgeon Gen. is in thanks to another look at me which Cruz and Paul have been playing in the Senate and elsewhere with damaging results.

Come on! With or without Ted Cruz, Harry Reid could have rammed this nomination through any time he wanted to. Don’t blame Ted Cruz for what Dirty Harry and his Dirty Democrats do. If Cruz hadn’t called for the Saturday session, Dirty Harry could have rammed this through on Friday night.

      • Erudite Mavin

They were going to recess and the nominees were not brought up until Ted kept the door open.

        • Nabukuduriuzhur

A bit of a problem: recess must be at least 3 days long. A weekend is not enough, as ruled by the Supreme Court earlier this year.

And so this is yet another senate violation of the Constitution.

Since Cruz didn’t bring up the nomination, but Reid illegally did, then it’s on his hands.

        • http://www.stubbornthings.org NAHALKIDES

From Vox: “Cruz’s office says that this means the weekend session didn’t change anything. “Everyone knows Harry Reid planned to jam forward as many nominees as he could after the omnibus passed,” said Cruz’s deputy press secretary. “He made this clear to members last week, and his spokesperson confirmed so publicly.”

A weekend recess would not have prevented Dirty Harry from advancing those nominees this week if he wanted to, and he apparently did. Reid controls the Senate, not Cruz, and Reid and the Democrats are responsible for these nomination moving forward.

What did Ted Cruz ever do to you?

  • http://www.stubbornthings.org NAHALKIDES

Absolutely. Democrats are all gun-grabbers at heart, but those in red states or who for other reasons face a competitive Republican opponent pretend to be in favor of gun rights because they know they would lose otherwise. But none of them are sincere, and I can’t think of a single Democrat in a one-party district who supports gun rights.

Democrats are the Party of the State, and respect no individual rights whatsoever.
