Here’s why Israel never got behind the Syrian opposition. As bad as Assad was, the Shiite regime was at least predictable and accountable. Turning over that territory to assorted Sunni Jihadists creates a situation similar to the one in Gaza and Lebanon.

And now rockets are being fired into Israel from all three places.

“At least five rockets fired from Syria hit different locations across the Golan Heights,” the Israeli army said in a statement.

An army spokeswoman told AFP that it was not known who launched the rockets and the Israeli military did not return fire.

She said there were no casualties in the attacks, at around 1:30 am (2230 GMT) on Sunday, the 48th day of a war between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas in and around Gaza.

Several people were treated for shock.

Israel has tried to develop some kind of relationship with some of the Sunni groups short of arming them. It has provided medical care and some humanitarian aid.

But this was always inevitable.

The Syrian border is turning into the same mess. The new border threat is less from surprise attacks by organized armies, but the old-fashioned insurgent harassment that Israel was experiencing a lot of before the big wars began. Except that rockets make the insurgencies much more disruptive and able to terrorize larger populations.

Israel’s failure to seriously break Hamas encouraged further attacks from Lebanon and Syria. This is how it works. An incomplete offense followed by a withdrawal emboldens other terrorist groups to try their luck.

Another bit of handiwork of John “No Borders” McCain. Don’t worry John your friends in the Sunni Militias couldn’t take Damascus, but hey are going the long way around and will be entering Arizona this weekend. I am sure you are ready for themt. Perhaps you can lead the airstrikes on Las Vegas to stop them. Go put on your flight suit John..this is your big moment.

The Assad government does want to lose any land. By the Golan heights is not strategically valuable to them at this time. It would cost too much to take and to hold.

Assad need a land bridge to Lebanon to obtain military aid from Iran and to enable Hezbollah Troop movement to battle fronts.

The Golan Heights does not serve this purpose.

This is a triple win for the Assad government. Any ordinance fired at Israel is ordinance that is not fired at the SAA. It reduces potential SAA casualties & gives them somewhat of a breather in that sector. An added benefit is that the more talk of rockets landing in Israel but whatever butt hurt group of jihadis is less attention focused on the Assad government. Another benefit is that command and control can only plan so many ops. Any ops planned against Israel is one less op planned against the SAA. You see this in wargaming rules, where players are only able to issue a set number of orders to their units. This is simulate the ability of C3 to gin up orders. So while units may be rested, supplied and ready, they just sit.

Plus, Israel will wipe out the maniacs firing at them, thus saving Assad the trouble and actually getting it done.

The US has joined Iran, Syria, HAMAS, the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamic Jihad axis against traditional allies Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
With scant few exceptions, few seem to have noticed.
    This won’t end well.

    • Marty Tannenbaum

It won’t end well for Israel since the US props that Satanic state up with judefetzen.

      • MRHapla

funny name for a Muslim sympathizer,,,,,. enabler? collaborator? traitor?

Why else would you denounce our only ally in the ME? you really think any of those Arab/Muslim murder maniacs are going to be pro-US, Israel or not?

    • IslamDownpressesHumanity

Saudi Barbaria an “ally”? Saudi Barbaria, the islamic-fascist, judenrein by design, gender and religious apartheid theocracy? This really shows how f’ed up the US is, when islamic fascist states that promote and finance worldwide islamic terrorism are called “allies”.

    • MRHapla

Only for a little while longer,,,,,,,,,,,

Back under the elder Assad, the man who prevented anyone female and Jewish from leaving Syria, firing artillery shells from the Golan Heights onto Israeli Kibbutzim was all the rage. I hope Israel wasn’t stupid enough to give back the Golan Heights to the younger Assad.
