Beheadings, Bombings and New York’s Little Bangladesh

article-throat-0108Walk along Church Avenue and turn east onto McDonald Avenue and you will see where the old standards of working class Brooklyn, aging homes with faded American flags and loose siding, surly bars tucked into the shadows of street corners and the last video stores hanging on to a dying industry give way to mosques and grocery stores selling goat meat.

Mosques grow like mushrooms in basements, cell phone stores offer easy ways to wire money back to Bangladesh and old men glare at interlopers, especially if they are infidel women.

This is where Mohammed Siddiquee settled a dispute the old-fashioned way by beheading his landlord.

Mohammed wasn’t the first man in Brooklyn to use violence to settle a rental dispute, but beheadings are more traditional in his native Bangladesh than in Brooklyn, though over in neighboring Queens, Ashrafuzzaman Khan, Bangladesh’s most wanted war criminal, heads up the local Islamic Circle of North America, whose Islamist thugs beheaded poets and buried professors in mass graves.

Here in Kensington, where the alphabet streets that march across Brooklyn down to the ocean begin, the bars retreat along with the alphabet from those areas marked by the crescent and the angry glare. And there is another one like it at the other end of the alphabet where the Atlantic Ocean terminates the letters at Avenue Z bookending the Brooklyn alphabet with angry old men and phone cards for Bangladesh.

These spots aren’t no-go zones yet. There aren’t enough young men with too much welfare and time on their hands who have learned that the police will back off when they burn enough things and councilmen will visit to get their side of the story. That generation will grow up being neither one thing nor the other, ricocheting from American pop culture to the Koran, from parties with the infidels to mosque study sessions until they explode from the contradictions the way that the Tsarnaevs, who huffed pot and the Koran in equal proportions, did.

It isn’t the old men who plant bombs near 8-year-olds. It isn’t the young women laughing with their friends outside a pizza parlor, knowing that in a year or two they will have to go back home for an arranged marriage. It is the young men who call themselves Freddy or Mo at the local high school or community college, who drink and do drugs and who all their American friends swear aren’t serious about religion, until they suddenly become fatally serious.

For now the Bangladeshi settlements in Brooklyn are quiet places where the tenements and shops close off the streets into small private worlds with their own justice systems, feuds and secrets.

“I feel like I’m living in my own country,” the editor of one of the Bangladeshi newspapers in New York, said. “You don’t have to learn English to live here. That’s a great thing!”

Overhead may be the same sky, but Little Bangladesh has been cut off from Brooklyn and attached to a country thousands of miles away. Immigrants step off a plane from Bangladesh at JFK airport, get into a taxi driven by a Bangladeshi playing Bengali pop tapes and step out into a small slice of Bangladesh on McDonald Avenue.

And when the infidels of Brooklyn wander into their territory, they are glared at as the foreign intruders that they are.

After Mohammed beheaded his landlord Mahmud, he rushed to JFK to catch a flight. It was natural for him to think that having settled matters in the traditional fashion; he could fly away without considering what lay in the intervening spaces of the American Dar al-Harb between the Dar al-Islam of Avenue C and the Dar al-Islam of Bangladesh.

For the Mohammeds of Brooklyn, the infidels are the empty air between the rungs of a ladder that their foot passes through without noticing. They are little aware of the other Brooklyn that they are pushing aside, the great stretches of the working middle class, the little homes where police officers and firefighters once lived together with teachers and clerks, where plumbers walked to work and bus drivers got on, where the thousands of small businesses from diners to pharmacies turned the grassy stretches of land into neighborhoods.

Bugs Bunny was born here with his Flatbush accent along with a million real workers, soldiers, sailors, inventors, engineers, bums and salesmen who won wars, broke cases, sobbed in bars and brought dinner home to their families. And now, like so much of the urban working class, they are being swept away by time and tide, not from the familiar shores of Coney Island, but by the murkier waters of the Karnaphuli River and the strange world that its tides bring to Brooklyn.

The city has always had its micro communities; Chinatown at the bottom of Manhattan and Little Tokyo near NYU, Little Brazil off Times Square and Koreatown a block up from the Empire State Building.  The Russians have their stretch of Brighton Beach with its tea rooms and fur coats and Little Italy’s butcher shops, bakeries and rows of restaurants are still hanging on.

But Islam is not just a culture and the cultures who carry its baggage with them to the old worlds and the new are not toting it along like another ethnic food, a dialect or a national holiday.

In Chinatown, Buddhist temples and protestant churches sit side by side and in Latino neighborhoods, Adventist storefront churches and massive Catholic edifices co-exist; along with them can be found synagogues, Hindu and Zoroastrian temples and the whole dizzying array of religious diversity of a port city defined by its swells and tides of immigrants.

Bangladesh is more than 90 percent Muslim. Hindus are being attacked in the streets of its cities by Islamist mobs because Islam does not co-exist. The other religions of the city do not demand that everyone join them or acknowledge their supremacy and pay them protection money for the right to exist.

Islam does.

Its immigration is also a Jihad, a form of supremacist manifest destiny to colonize the Dar al-Harb and subdue it to the will of a dead prophet with sheer numbers or sheer force.

The number of Bangladeshis in New York has increased by 20 percent in only four years to an estimated 74,000. And those numbers don’t take into account the unofficial Mohammeds living in basements while nursing their murderous grudges.

Jamaica, Queens is becoming the center of the Bangladeshi presence in New York. Another Mohammed, Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, lived here in a low rise development of indistinguishable buildings crammed together and studded with satellite dishes so the dwellers could watch the television programs of their home countries, and plotted the mass murder of Americans.

“We will not stop until we attain victory or martyrdom,” he said in a video recorded before his planned attack.  His modest goal, in his own words, was to “destroy America” and quoted “Sheikh Osama” to justify the killing of American women and children.

Mohammed described the United States as the Dar al-Harb, the realm of war, the territory yet to be conquered by the armies of Islam, and said that the only permissible reason for a Muslim to move to the United States was to conquer it by missionary work or by armed terror.

“I just want something big. Something very big,” Mohammed said, “make one step ahead, for the Muslims . . . that will make us one step closer to run the whole world.”

At this hour no one in Little Korea, Little Italy, Little Brazil, Brighton Beach or Koreatown is plotting to destroy America so that his religion can rule the world. That is what sets the Little Bangladeshes, Little Pakistans, Little Mogadishus and Little Egypts apart from every other immigrant group whose dreams for the future are not overshadowed by the iron dream of Islam.

Is it already too late for the West to awaken to this pagan threat? It took 350 years of Islamic aggression before for the First Crusade was declared in defense of Europe. Until this day Muslims think Spain is theirs.

  • reyol

And we’ll get more muslims, not less. Because our elites want them. That they won’t assimilate makes them more attractive from our elite’s point of view. Their purpose is to de-nationalise our nation and weaken Christianity.

  • mackykam

The USA wouldn’t let Jews in prior or during WW2 yet they let this dreck garbage into the country . Which group has been, is and continues to be beneficial to America. Hint: it ain’t muslim trash.

    • laura r

the US was quite anti semitic, even in NYC. my mothers employer said if they found out she had even “one drop”, she would lose the job. my grandfather & his brothers anglo-ized their name to make life easier. if you could “pass”- then you fit in better.

      • mackykam

And they probably gave up or neglected their Jewish heritage too.

        • laura r

no my grandfather went to temple in NY. im sure for the employment issue, as the original name was almost the same. my grandmother & her family were never religious to begin with, & my mother zero. i would rather have a job, w/an extra letter in my name then be unemployed.

          • mackykam

Lots of people became Americanized yet they didn’t give up their religion or religious beliefs. Only Jews did that. Saying you would rather have a job…borders on the caricature of Jews only being interested in money. There is a thing called self respect, adhering to one’s religion knowing full well ancestors forfeited their lives and their wealth to remain faithful to their God. Consider.

          • laura r

you didnt live through the depression & after. my mother needed to work to bring $ home to survive. its not a caricature, that was mean. you do what you need to do to eat. the ancestors did that for several 100 yrs. its really nasty to expect people to suffer. in the bigger picture, the man who hired my mother was a no body, meaningless. why give him any power? that was what they did those days. not too much different then the nonsence today. you cant let these things get in the way of functioning. people need $ to live even on the most minimal level. even jews.

          • mackykam

I’m really not interested in picking a fight with you. We are Americans, and as such, entitled to our opinions and views. I am a child of holocaust survivors, born on the other side. My parents had their education cut short. Hitler forced my mom out of school because Jews weren’t permitted education in German schools. My parents came here as refugees, had to learn a new language and find work to support a family. Times were tough growing up, money was really scarce at times. Yet my dad never worked on the Sabbath or any Jewish holidays. We kept a kosher home when it was expensive to do that. But we survived, my parents worked hard and became wealthy over time ( I was long out of the house by then). Everyone’s experience in life is different. Don’t feel judged. It is only my opinion and views. Excuses are just that, excuses. It works for you, fine then. God bless.

          • laura r

each situation is different, we cannot compare. youre family managed, they had the $ coming in. my family managed in their way. there are many details in peoples lives which lead to making survival decisions. my grandmother went to catholic school in romania for several yrs when she was a child. i dont know the story, but i think there were problems in the late 1880′s. all this was kept hidden. also romania was the 1st country to be secular as well especially in the major city. very different from shetle life. no head coverings for them, & assimilated. most of my family were not observent like yours. but believe me they didnt forget who they were.

          • laura r

i wanted to add to to my comment. you say you do not want to “judge” but yet you say the word “excuses”. be careful of being a self rightious jew. this is one of the key reasons for anti semitism for 1000′s of yrs. jews behaving morally surperior to gentiles. it is even more destructive for one jew to point the moral finger @ another jew. (especially when it comes to relgious practice).

          • mackykam

All Jews are held responsible for actions of other Jews. Just ask any anti-Semite. And if Jews weren’t morally superior gentiles would never have adopted the Ten Commandments or Jesus’ teachings, based on the Bible, for their own. That said, anti-Semites have never needed any excuses but used any fallacious reasoning ( like a blood libel when everyone knows Jews are prohibited from eating blood) they could make up to excuse their murderous hatred.

          • laura r

“all jews are held responsible for actions of other jews” is this is in jewish law? (hope not). if it is, that sounds like a set up right there for anti semitism- especially if exaggerated or taken out of context. (yes they find any excuse to hate. we need to be careful of what we speak, or what was written, or what we take literally in modern times). as for being superior morally, well yes & no. i understand about heathens & unmoral people, w/out a code. jews are no angels regardless if observant or secular. but really….. whether it is working on sabbath, massive crime fraud on wall st, i dont think either of us are responsible. (& you cant compare the 2, its just an example). if we ARE responsible, we have alot to bear.

          • mackykam

Hope away. Now I’m getting bored. Thanks for the conversation.

    • Tanks-a-lot

Why would anyone want a bunch of Lenin supporters to come to America?

      • mackykam

Because dreck like you continue to profit from Jews living in the USA. Never mind the home grown Leninists that elected and re-elected Obama to office.
Now I wonder if you protest the commies that came from Cuba, or the Chinese from China that have come here?
Now that I see you like to use the tar brush to smear Jews as communists I wonder whether there isn’t more than a smidge of tar brush in you.

  • veritaseequitas

This whole essay outlines the perfect reason that America needs to purge herself of all Muslims and refuse to allow them to emigrate here.
Just look at what has befallen Europe and how they have been overrun by this insane bunch of lowlifes.
When America was experiencing massive immigration during the last century, those immigrants carried with them their customs and their language in many instances and yet they were eager to assimilate to their new country. They didn’t want to destroy others who did not believe as they did or speak the same language or practice the same religion.
The Muslim’s belief that others need to adhere or die, is not acceptable and cannot be made acceptable by America. They must put their false and misguided ideology behind them or get out of America.

    • surj

veritaseequitas ” The muslim’s belief that others need to adhere or die, …..They must put their…. ideology behind them or get out of America ” How very right you are. All this hate of non believers come from their so called holy Quran [ by the way there is NOTHING holy about it ] Sura 9:1112 ” Allah has purchased from the faithful their lives and worldly goods and in return has promised them paradise. They will fight for the cause of Allah, they will Kill and be killed ” And that is exactly what muslims have been doing from the times of their so called profit mo-ham-mad. You are right Daniel . I’m a bit older having grown up in Flatbush 1954 -1968. Growing up in my neighborhood , along the Avenue was a bar on every other street , filled with dodgers fans , the cops ,firemen , teachers , shipyard workers , wall street guys ….most WW2 vets . They never spoke of it , yet I grew up surrounded by heroes as I learned growing older . My best friends Dad always gaunt from the Death March , but always in a suit and walking upright . Literally every man on my street was in the Big One . They’re American Dream was to be left alone in peace to carry on with their lives .Life was observed from the stoop , and the cops brought you home to your Dad . Every time I go back the place becomes more unrecognizable .BROOKLYN is over . In school there were many strange names from all over the world , but we all spoke the same . Sory , I’m rambling , but you hit a sore spot . There have always been concentrations of MiddleEastern people especially along Atlantic Ave. from Flatbush to Pier 1 , with all their restaurants , but we all spoke the same.

    • Daniel Greenfield

You just described it very eloquently

      • 20pizzapies

In Brooklyn ethnic neighborhoods always existed , with their food stores and the like . Poles , Catholics , Irish , Jews , Italians , Germans , Norse always spoke the same language and a way was found to get along . Now Jews are attacked in Borough Park , Flatbush , Crown Heights ,and are instigated by Muslim people . I always thought the Brooklyn folk would never put up with this sort of thing . They enemy is P C , whilst all the while the muslim population has no such inhibition . None at all .

        • laura r

in boro park, crown heights, williamsburg jewish people spoke yiddish w/each other, especially the older ones. in other parts people spoke spanish. our shoe maker spoke italian, the laundry spoke chinese. but mostly everyone knew english, @least some. no one tried to convert anyone else to their ways. many universes together, but seperate as well. btw, the hasid community does not put up w/that sort of thing. they will kill of they have too, i know this as a fact.

          • 20pizzapies

Please clarify your statement on the Hasids , who will they kill and why ?
I went to school in Crown Heights in the heart of that Hasid Commmunity , never encountered a problem as a kid or young adult . Chabad Lubovich Center was right there on Eastern Parkway.

          • laura r

there was an incident in boro park or one of those areas. my friend joined the community & mentioned it. some one attacked a jewish man. when he called for help, several people came to his aid. they beat the perp. he was never seen again. im not saying they murdered, i was being dramatic. but it looks like they take care of their own. they may have street patrols, thats a possibility.

          • 20pizzapies

thanks for the clarification Laura . When I was about 14 a young Hasid my age was knifed to death while using a phone booth on President street . it was senseless . The Chabad on Eastern Parkway instituted patrols in their own cars called the Maccabees as their were several muggings and beatings going on , mostly from the blacks .When they knocked down Ebbets Field , the city built a low rent high rise project – Ebbets Field Apartments . It wasn;t long before it became ground zero for muggings . I myself got mugged outside of Boys High after a football game , and then again on the IRT at Sterling St .
Pete Hamil a journalist originally with the Journal American wrote a book which was made in t a movie “Snow in August ” , it caught the flavor of the times on Flatbush in the early 50′s . You can watch it on You-Tube .Anti-Semitism was alive and well in some Brooklyn people .

          • laura r

thankyou for the film will check it out. i am also from brooklyn, a very safe part. in all my yrs in NYC i have never experienced violence. just one pick pocket way back walking up the subway stairs, w.70′s/broadway. 2 pickpocket “attempts” in the last several yrs. the last 2 times they didnt get close enough, but they were being watched. all of the perps were black females. the policeman who was keeping on eye on one semi attempt was black himself.

          • 20pizzapies

Glad you’re in a good part .Bergen beach/Mill Basin used to be pretty safe swam at Mill Basin when it was called sandyhook beach -at the end of Mill Ave . Subways back in the50′s and 60 got dangerous , but I understand they’re pretty safe now .

          • laura r

there are 2 opposing things going on in brooklyn. either its turning 3rd world, or the areas are gentrified expensive & attract college eduated professionals. i used to live on a street between foster & macdonald ave off ocean parkway. is that in bangladesh? my grandmother bought it around 1930, sold it in 1951. that is one area which will not gentrify, its too far in.

Who is this illiterate author? Does he think he is writing for a high school essay contest? Any adult reader with half a brain would not put up with such unreferenced nonsense. The bigger problem, apart from bogus writing, is that these stereotypes actually harm real people. They harm businesses, educators and peace-loving sensible citizens. Such a racist opinion piece spewing so much vitriol. Shame on you, whoever you are.

  • Saif Kamal

This is disgusting.. We bangladeshi are not and never been this way.. ever.

“Ashrafuzzaman Khan, Bangladesh’s most wanted war criminal” ,

as the article says. The man was responsible for raping, masterminding mass killings in support of Pakistan and against the formation of Bangladesh. For his it may be normal. While for a society it is not.

American still wont deport him to be hanged here. !!! As he is guilty and is a fugitive..

  • biju

Check out these scary Bangladeshis! http://fatallyseriousbangladeshis.tumblr.com/

  • Saif Kamal

BTW the journalist is as blind and as ignorant… well no words.. Has he visited Bangladesh.. Bangladesh is one of the leaders in women rights and female infanticide etc..
No one is treated this way here. The leader such as ashfaq is a wanted criminal for war crime. He had beheaded men and women, raped and many other crimes against humanity. So he preaches it.

However the journalist writing it without vetting.. GOD HELP the world.. and his book !!! shall blind the world further..

    • Daniel Greenfield

“Bangladesh is one of the leaders in women rights and female infanticide”

One of these things is not like the other

  • funnyaladdin

It’s safe to say this author is generalizing and further shows how racist this world is. There are nut jobs of EVERY race but we should condemm the individual not the race. An orthodox jew kidnapped a jewish kid in Brooklyn a few yrs ago and chopped him up into bits in a freezer. I dont condemm all jews i think HE is a nut. Same with Bangladeshis. Most of em won’t hurt a fly. But this writer wouldn’t know that because he has not interacted with ANY Bangladeshi person. I’m Bangladeshi and think you have done an irresponsible job of portraying a community of people you have no clue about. Know a group of people before you write your BS about them.

    • laura r

the man who kidnapped the boy was NOT jewish. they interviewed his ex wife in tennensee, i saw the news vid. micheal savage did a radio special on that incident. this man took on the othodox identity, & left for NYC. he got a menial job, lived in the community. no one knew him as he “kept to himself”. we dont know if he was ever offically converted to judiasm by a rabbi. FYI, “sam of sam” (the serial killer) was also not jewish. he was polish catholic, was adopted. now there ARE nuts & sociopaths in every religion. but the example you used is not correct.

  • Tania Rashid

I am a Bangladeshi immigrant that grew up in America for most my life. You are fabricating our identity with your xenophobic stance in your article. Why don’t you quote some Bangladeshi immigrants in Jackson Heights who are doing wonderful things for the community or better yet come to Bangladesh and see how our traditions really work, and for the record beheading is not a tradition in Bangladesh…this is a biased, unreferenced article. Not a work of journalism. So many sides to the story missing. Bangladesh is way more complex then you think David. Pick up a history book.

    • laura r

you grew up in NY/USA. you are from another group in immigrants. the newer people may not be the same as you. it is ovious that some of them bring danger & do not assimilate. this is the point of the artical.

      • Tania Rashid

Totally disagree. I’ve written my masters thesis on the immigrant population in NYC. What you are referring to are exceptions in the community. Can’t bulk us all together.

    • surj

Tinia Rashid ” or better yet come to Bangladesh and see how our traditions really work” Like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSrn3ot4O8Q and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE2D3CKAVA
” and for the record beheading is not a tradition in Bangladesh….” Beheading is a basic tradition among muslims. Recently an Irish convert to islam beheaded his own mother, So please don’t defend islam for its barbarism.
Sorry it is all in Bengali language, the young Hindu girls are raped and and treated worst then animals. Hindu temples destroyed

      • Tania Rashid

I live in Bangladesh for the record and am aware of the atrocities happening to the minority groups. But this type of destruction is being done by the jamaat-e-islami an Islamist group within the country. These incidents do not represent the all of the Bangladeshi people. Please get your facts straight.

        • surj

Tania Rashid. Can you explain ,who come Hindu population of Bangladesh have decreased from 25% to around 2% from the time East Pakistan now [ Bangladesh] was caved out of India ? Where as muslim population of India has increased from 7% to around 19% in the same period? It does not matter you are all the same. Except very ,very few like TASLIMA NASRIN ..read her book. If as you say only few Bengalis are bad how come Fatwa was issued against her? and she had to leave her own country? .

  • surj

topperj ” We are following the very people Hell bent on wiping us out set up enclaves and training grounds within our borders ” You are so right, you have enemies already living among you. Majority of Americans are still asleep and don’t realise the danger. Just see http://shariaunveiled.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/is-america-at-war-with-islam-a-tom-trento-presentation-video/

  • Moyeedul Hasan

Exception can never be treated as an example. Only a stupid and ignorant can generalize the caharacteristics of a community based on some nuts. It does not matter what a person’s religion or nationality, his misdeed belongs only to him. When someone starts generalizing, he should see a psychiatric to get treatment for the disease of racism

    • laura r

wrong. greenfield was not talking about every single person in that community. he was talking about a trend w/in that group. something which did not exist when the neighborhood was irish jewish italian.

  • Joanne

I am a white woman living in this neighborhood – this article is complete BS – your depictions are totally false. shame on you for such inflammatory statements.

    • Tanks-a-lot

Obvious muslim hiding behind a Kafir name is obvious.

    • Daniel Greenfield

What exactly is false about it?

    • somkaz

This was written by a guy having last name Greenfield (Happen to be Judaic -no wonder). What about all Hasidic/Judaic communities’ closed in their boxy neighborhood with 10/12 children and doing some criminal activities starting Organ harvesting to money laundering to financial theft. Making a stereotype portrait out of a horrific incident is tactic always practiced by this dominant small Judaic media group who support each other by giving top job one of their own and let write all kind of negative things about others (Christianity, Catholics, in particular-after 9/11 it is Moslems) except themselves. By doing that they frequently get AMERICAN PEOPLE MISINFORMED,MISLED AND MADE THEM HATEFULL.(to serve their own purpose).19th & early 20th century European history of these small dominant communities will shed lights in their motives.(if anyone interested-Always above negative portrait). What happened to them after that is horrific crime though (with many other group). Sad part is that they are practicing the same tactics here in United States. God Save America of Such Manipulation. Thank you

  • Albert8184

You sound as naive, uninformed and insulated as any post modern American sounds. You only think in the here and now, in the narrowest of conventional boxes.

He’s talking about Muslims per se, but it’s bigger than that. But, if we’re talking Muslims in America, they don’t give a SHEET about your “line in the sand”. When they’re ready to jump, they’ll jump. And idiot who’s studied history over the past 100 years knows that.

    • 20pizzapies

You choose to walk with your tail between your legs . that’s your problem . You go put your tin hat on waiting for them to “jump ” . There are limits as to what Americans will put up with , you haven’t been around long enough to know what those are. You allow yourself to e herded along with the sheeple . YOU go study history , especially the history of the Marines as related to the Barbary Coast pirates . Go on and wring your hands with the rest of the paranoid cowards . Those who KNOW America , know exactly when to move .

      • Albert8184

I’ve been around as long as you have. I teach people like you history. There is absolutely NOTHING that you have for me in the way of new information.

The Americans of 200 years ago, this present generation has NOTHING in common with. Yes, go and study the history of Tripoli and discover that your nation of 2014 is NOTHING whatsoever like that generation those Marines were part of.

Paranoid cowards? Ha, what a laugh that is. The real cowards are too apathetic to be paranoid. They don’t even know the name of their own congressman, or how to find Iran on a map, much less enough to be paranoid.

        • 20pizzapies

I doubt if you “teach anyone anything ” other than to cower in fear , and exercises in paranoia . Your “history experience ” probably goes no further than the archives of Fox news . Who ya kidding joker ?

          • Albert8184

Ah yes, bring up Fox News. Now that doesn’t sound at all like a desperate talking point criticism from an amateur libtard. Go back to sleep, History Man.

          • 20pizzapies

Hit a sore spot eh ? Considering the blather coming from the media , Fox being no exception , I would say the mentality of it’s listeners fits the mentality of it’s content. So , if the shoe fits , wear it bunky .

Thank you
