Bill Nye the Science Guy Confuses Arctic with Antarctic at Global Warming Debate

Nye_Bill

Arctic, Antarctic, who cares? The science is settled. Just look at this hockey stick. So what if it’s really a baseball bat. The science is settled, I tell you. We settled it one weekend and now it’s settled for good.

At 8 min. 30 seconds in, Nye holds up a picture of Arctic and asks: ‘Would you say that the Antarctic has less ice than it used to?’

Climate Depot’s Answer: NO! See: Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is on track to have highest minimum in modern satellite era! – ‘Sea Ice Extent is 27.4% above normal as of Feb 7 2014′

Er, Bill, that graphic you’re holding up is one of the Arctic, and not the Antarctic. Nye doesn’t even know north from south!

And concerning global sea ice, today it is at near normal levels. Nye cherry-picking the single data-point of September 2013 at the single location of the Arctic is not a persuasive argument – never mind him using the wrong chart.

This is why treating a creepy kids’ TV show host like a science expert is a bad idea, but we live in liberal mediaville where no errors by progressives ever get acknowledged.

So Time Magazine headlines this embarrassing performance as “Bill Nye Scolds GOP Congresswoman On Global Warming”.

“Neither (Bill) nor I are climate scientists. He is an engineer and an actor, I am a member of Congress. And what we have to do is look at the information that we get from climate scientists,” said Rep. Blackburn.

Bill Nye responded harshly to the congresswoman.

“We have overwhelming evidence that the climate is changing. That you cannot tie any one event to that is not the same as doubt about the whole thing,” said Nye. “There is no debate in the scientific community. I encourage the congresswoman to really look at the facts. You are our leader. We need you to change things, not deny what’s happening.”

Yes Marsha, please change the Arctic into the Antarctic. Immediately. There’s no point in denying that the Arctic is really the Antarctic. Just change it immediately. A guy who made faces on TV for a few years told you so.

they get paranoid over the natural progression of climate change yet ignore the progression of Islamic terrorism within our own borders…

    • MukeNecca

I somehow don’t think that, with an exception of a few, they are really paranoid. Most of them are cynical opportunists.who themselves don’t believe the crap. The objective of their scare campaign is to divert the public attention from real dangerous issues – Islam within American borders being one of them.

  • Andy_Lewis

Nonetheless, man-made climate change is real. For the sake of your credibility, snap out of it.

    • MukeNecca

Or, as today’s Lysenko bunch watching over the history’s greatest hoax warn young, critical climatologists: “man-made climate change is real. For the sake of your career, snap out of it.”

      • Andy_Lewis

This thread’s a laff riot. Just how many clowns are packed into this “Climate Hoax” VW anyhow?

        • MukeNecca

Andy, Andy… Snap out of it.

You show good taste…borrowing your lines from a master. I’ll be here all week.

Be sure and try the veal, and tip the waitress. But don’t tip her too far or she’ll fall over.

            Ba dump bump!

          • MukeNecca

Oh, you noticed? I like borrowing good and witty lines. Mind you, I put them in quotation marks. If you produce one I may borrow from you too. Unfortunately most of your prose is as weird as Algore’s raving.
For example: what does “Ba dump bump” mean? The sound of a hockey stick against the head of AlGore- the great wizard of Hot Air?

          • Western Canadian

Instead of a rim shot, in this case ‘Ba dumb bump’ would probably be andy’s family name. He comes from a long line of ‘dumb bumps’.

          • CeceLeBeaux

Don’t worry, it’s just a common thread troll, descended from the historical bridge troll, except due to inbreeding they’re not clever enough to monetize their aggression.

          • Andy_Lewis

            Give it up, dumbo.

    • CeceLeBeaux

Um… prove it. C02 emissions are #1 on the enemy hit list. Atmospheric C02 has increased in the past 10 years but the global average temperature has decreased. Or is that argument too anti-intellectual? I mean Oprah believes in global warming, it must be true.

      • MukeNecca

Well, Oprah may, or may not, believe in global warming, but she is right believing she can sell it to Andy.

      • Yourallabunchofslaves

Global average temp decreased? Your responding to a global warming argument. The two words are climate change. Its not just hotter in some areas but colder in others. Anyway this report is bullshit anyone who is refuting evidence that is presented to them are sheep being spoonfed information from representatives who clearly have another agenda. Those of you who say bill nye is not a scientist is also believing articles like this. He got a degree in science from an accredited university which is more than you slaves to the right wing agenda.

        • Western Canadian

The change in terms from global warming to climate change was due to the climate not changing the way that cons and frauds like algore wanted it to.
Yes, nye has a degree and has worked as a scientist. He is also a bumbling moron on climate change, and knows nothing about climate history, change, or current or furture state of the same. The last aspects, he shares with you.

        • J. Bargholz

Hotter in some areas and colder in others? And that’s a problem how? That’s unusual how?

    • J. Bargholz

Climate change. Right. Is it getting warmer or colder?

Who would you trust to predict next year’s weather, The Farmer’s Almanac or Bill Nye?

    Answer: Farmers Almanac.

Bill Nye has removed all doubt as to his lack of wisdom.

    • James

I call your Almanac and raise you 8,800 climatologists from around the world.

      • A Z

8,800? Why not 8 billion zillion?

        • James

First off, “climate” and “weather” are different: weather is over a few days, climate over many years. More importantly, these two articles greatly cherry-pick data: the Farmer’s Almanac predicted the west would have much colder temperatures and would have more precipitation than normal. Yet, the west is experiencing the worst drought in recorded history and setting high temperature records regularly.
Further, global warming is not looking at temperatures in a few select cities, rather global temperatures. Many cities around the world are experiencing record warm temperatures.

  • CeceLeBeaux

The fact that we can’t point to any one thing, like, oh, say, average temperature trends, or an actual reduction in polar ice, is not the same as doubt!. Don’t confuse the issue with facts. Sigh… I used to like Nye, now he’s just a derp with a bow tie.

  • wileyvet

By the time the Climate Change loons models take effect in 100 years, we will already be living in a 7th century Islamic caliphate with all modern industrial states and economies destroyed, so that will fix the Global Warming. Problem solved.

  • PeacePoll

It’s obvious that Bill’s entire argument is invalid when he gets such an important word wrong, and here’s the proof http://www.skepticalscience.com/pics/ArcticSeaIceMinimumCoverage.jpg

    • J. Bargholz

Thanks for settling it. A red graph is incontrovertible proof.

      • PeacePoll

Thank you. I always try to bring numbers and facts to the table. It seems that so many people here are unable to produce so much as a link in support of their argument.

    • A Z

Do you have the right time scale?

I could prove that the earth is going to flood if I took measurements at a beach starting at ebb tide and stopping shortly before ebb tide.

At least he kept his pants on this time.

Oh wow, clinging to such a simple, human gaffe as evidence to support your side? Very weak. When Sarah Palin said that North Korea was our ally, did you on the right jump up and say she has no authority on foreign affairs? I, and most, simply laughed at it and dismissed it as a simple error when speaking extemporaneously.
Get some real evidence behind you.
