My daughter graduated from a highly respected culinary college. She is still saddled with about $30,000 debts for her student loans. She now works as a line cook in a prestigious fine dining restaurant, making those oh-so-coveted $12 per hour. She has still a long way to go, to make it a Sous Chef on a salary to actually start making a decent living. Can you put somebody from hamburger flipping position into a fine dining restaurant's kitchen station? I don't think so.

Unz is insane. The only thing a minimum wage hike will do is kill entry-level jobs, thus creating more of a market for illegal workers, and adding more college student age persons to the ranks of the unemployed. Why do that? The minimum wage should be lowered; and American manufacturing should be revived. That will create a demand for American products; then we can put a tariff on Chinese manufactured goods imported into the USA. Give Americans jobs, and they'll have less reason to be snotty. Remember when American products were the envy of the world? We can do it again!

I remember decades back when Unz ran for office in California. Even at that time he was in a world of theory not reality, typical of libertarians.
His association on blogs, magazines, etc. with the Ron Paul fringe such as
Rockwell , Buchanan, etc. is an example of his mind set.

Many to most people making minimum wage, burger flippers to service industry
are either high school drop outs or do not want to take night courses to learn a skill or trade to work into a job you make 12 to 15.00 an hr. and where you can work up further.

Also, most to all minimum wage workers have a car, and other items
that are not necessary to fund then expect more money.

I retired a few yrs back and never owned a car, took public transportation to work for decades and still use public transportation.

re the recent hike in minimum wage up in Frisco,
Subway customers in San Francisco may be disappointed when they get to the counter and find out that the everyday selection of $5 footlong sandwiches has been scrapped, reportedly in response to a recent increase in the minimum wage.
