Filipino Soldiers Defied UN Order to Surrender to ISIS

Good for them. Surrendering to people who practice beheading religiously is ill advised.

This whole mess is yet another of the innumerable reminders that international forces placed around Israel to absolutely nothing and surrender or run away at the first sign of trouble. That’s why the touted EU initiative to put international forces between Israel and Hamas is a stupid and destructive venture.

The Philippine military said Monday that a UN peacekeeping commander in the Golan Heights should be investigated for allegedly asking Filipino troops to surrender to Syrian rebels who had attacked and surrounded their camp

Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang said he advised the 40 Filipino peacekeepers not to lay down their arms, and they defied the UN peacekeeping commander’s order. Instead, they staged a daring escape from the Golan camp over the weekend, ending a tense, dayslong standoff.

The disagreement is another blow to a UN peacekeeping mission that has been threatened by an escalation of violence in a buffer zone it has been guarding between Israel and Syria. A number of countries have withdrawn their troops from the peacekeeping force due to rising rebel attacks.

Forty-five Fijian peacekeepers who surrendered their firearms to the rebels last week are still being held by the al-Qaida-linked insurgents.

The commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, or UNDOF, which supervises the peacekeeping mission in Golan, was overseeing talks with the Syrian rebels to secure the freedom of the Fijians. However, Catapang said he would not agree to any resolution of the hostage crisis that would put Filipino troops in grave danger.

When the besieged Filipino troops sought his advice after they were ordered to lay down their arms as part of an arrangement with the rebels to secure the Fijians’ release, Catapang said he asked them to defy the order.

“I told them not to follow the order because that is a violation of our regulation, that we do not surrender our firearms, and, at the same time, there is no assurance that you will be safe after you give your firearms,” Catapang said.

UNDOF did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

He’s quite right that negotiating with terrorists doesn’t work and terrorists should not be trusted. This is why Israel should not be expected to surrender in the hopes that the terrorists will keep up their end of the deal.

They haven’t and they don’t.

  • trapper

Great story. Contrary to Leftist belief, never, NEVER, voluntarily put yourself at the mercy of someone who means you harm. These Filipinos are true soldiers and are an example to be emulated.

    • TugboatPhil

They learned their lesson from the Japanese in 42. Surrender rarely ends well.

      • B__2

They more likely learnt their lessons from fighting muslim terrorists in the Philippines, including the Moro terrorists as just one of the groups seeking to overthrow government rule in the southern Philippines. These Filipinos, unlike many UN countries, have seen muslim terrorism in their own country and are thus much more likely to understand the deadly risks of being taken captive by muslim terrorists – unlike the Fijians for example.

        • Mereoni

Blessed are the Peacemakers! So proud of these Fijian soldiers.. now released and NO ransom was needed.

      • flambouyant

they surrendered and ended up in death march.

  • JohnfromToronto

Why is this UNDOF commander not named?

    • nobullhere

Was he any relation to Ban ki-Moon?

      • Dallas25305

Don’t forget Koffi Annen who’s son Kojo stole millions from the U.N. A corrupt organization that Western nations stupidly pay to keep in operation.

        • gerry

Npot only Iojo, but according to Annan’s deputy they were all in it,Annan and all the clique.Bought by Saddam Hussein. No wonder the inquiry has been swept under the carpet. This time round they have bbeen bought by Qatar.

    • Dallas25305

The U.N. commander was Lt General Iqbal Singh Singha a member of the Indian Army. You would think he would understand Muslims better than that coming from India where there have been many terrorist attacks.

      • truebearing

        Maybe he is a Muslim.

        • MukeNecca

Ha! You beat me to it!

        • Pete

Sign is usually a Sikh name.

          • truebearing

I’d like to hear his explanation for such an idiotic order, and then how he managed to become a general.

          • Pete

Generals can be traitors. The Whampoa academy produced many such generals and it changed the course of history.

          • Justan American

U.N. troops are “Peace Keepers” not prone to being aggressors.

          • Karabukov

They were not the aggressors. They simply defended themselves. The decision not to surrender to the Muslim rebels was absolutely correct.

        • hiernonymous

“Singh” is a name of Hindu origin most closely associated with the Sikhs. Given this, and the fact that the general invariably appears in public wearing Sikh headdress, that’s very unlikely.

          • truebearing

Yeah, no one ever posed as something they are not before. Who ever heard of a general or a president that were traitors? Couldn’t possibly happen.

          • hiernonymous

  • nobullhere

Well done Filipinos. You did what you had to do and you did it right. Never surrender to these barbarians. They are far worse than the Japanese your ancestors faced in 1941/42.

    • IslamDownpressesHumanity

The Filipinos are facing islamic-fascism right at home in the Philippines. I believe part of Mindanao is slated to become a self-governing islamic state soon.

      • Drakken

That cease fire will go the way of every other one these savages signed, more demands and then open warfare.

    • Cajun Exile

“They are far worse than the Japanese your ancestors faced in 1941/42.” Depends ow you define worse. The Japanese where much more effective fighters, just as committed, just as willing to die for their cause and just as willing to commit atrocities. So yes, these Islamic “barbarians” are worse fighters.

      • joefoxx

They also beheaded people. They were fanatical.

      • nobullhere

Far worse as in crueller if you fall into their hands. Some did survive Japanese brutality. If ISIS take you prisoner, you’re as good as dead. But another angle is we could bomb the Japanese without pity and without guilt during World War II, as that was in a different era, but thanks to political correctness over the last 50 years, we can hardly bring ourselves to lay a glove on these savages.

        • Cajun Exile

Read “Flyboys” which chronicles the incident where Japanese cut open American POW’s and showed them their organs as they died. The Japanese then served their livers as appetizers in a celebratory meal.

The Rape of Nanking were 200,000 to 300,000 were murdered (depending on who is counting) in one big frat party of rape and murder makes ISIS look like pikers.

If you think these islamo-fascists are more cruel than the japanese in WWII you are woefully ill informed.

You are correct about our willingness to respond appropriately to ISIS. The words of Curtis LeMay are particularly instructive in these times, “If you kill enough of them, they stop fighting.”

          • Drakken

Then let’s turn the Japanese lose on the muslims. They at least know how to get the bloody job done.

          • Michelle

One brief episode from ~1930s to 1945 and you compare this to ~1400 years of the same. In terms of damage to humanity Islam beats Japan hands down. BUT they do have one thing in common: a fanatical belief in the cheapness of human life on both sides and a harsh brutality. Nothing about the Japanese you have said is wrong(and my uncle was beheaded by them) it is just that you are comparing a brief “blip” in time to that occurring well over a millennium. The same barbarity is there; the numbers mismatch totally as the JJapanese never looked like hitting ~80 million corpses and they DID drop(under force) their fanaticism > Muslims will NOT cease theirs while one copy of the Koran exists.

          • Cajun Exile

A blip of history? You need to read more. Japan has been a militaristic society for a very long time. Their first invasion of Korea was in the 800’s over 1200 years ago. Japan is the only society in the history of the world to “accomplish” centralized feudalism in the 16th century. Islam NEVER was able to exercise such ruthless control over a society in its history.

Militarily, “Islam” is a bit of a joke. The Persians, now called Iranians, were a military power before Islam existed. They are a military power after Islam existed. Nothing shocking or contributory from Islam there. Persians are extremely racists towards Arabs and think about as much as Arabs as they do dogs.

The Turks responsible for much of the military success of “Islam” throughout its history were late arriving “fair weather” Muslims at best. The Muslims were getting dominated by the Mongols on the battlefield, “Allahu akbar” shouting notwithstanding, and asked the Mongols cousins (the Turks) to come help. The “help” came in the form of Turkish rule over the point of a weapon for the next 800 years or so. Turks are another group that are extremely racists towards Arabs.

So lets not get into hysterical bed wetting mode over militant islam. Militarily these Arab Islamists are nothing special. Let’s kill the ones we need to kill and move on.

  • Texas Patriot

  • De Doc

This should be the example for all folks faced with the prospect of giving up to these barbarians, You already know their plans for you, so why not steel yourself and fight like a wounded tiger until the end? Don’t give them the satisfaction! If they want your head, they’ll need to carve it from your corpse

  • kate5778b

I hate it when people say “I just have to follow orders”, yesterday, a friend came to say she couldn’t see me ever again, no cards, phone calls &. because her knowing me could compromise her daughter’s job, she’s a trainee police officer who is far too old to live at home, but there you go – apparently I am on a list for those who support Israel and so clearly a ‘baddie’…..and most probaly an ‘islamophobe’ to boot. I only always quote Zuheir Moshen, the Hamas Charter, Qur’aaan ahaaaadith and San Remo/Balfour declarations and never pick on people as a people but just measure words, as is our ancient right as British citizens. It is always the opposition who shouts, I like to point to facts. I hadn’t realized we had reached ‘that time’ but clearly we have. I will miss my friend.

    • Robin

Are you sure she was really a friend?

    • tickletik

      That wasn’t a friend

      • kate5778b

As I said to Robin, she’s scared, but she’ll always be to me, my friend. Being afraid is a terrible thing.

Wars are no longer fought with the object of winning and achieving a decisive victory.
No one is meant to or allowed to win. Wars must now be “equitable.”
This explains why the US is not destroying ISIS, Al Qaeda, the Taliban or any other terrorist group and why Israel will never be allowed to destroy Hamas.

National and supranational organizations (the UN) and government agencies fund both sides in these new “controlled wars.”

Please see Joan Veon’s book, “The United Nations – Global Straitjacket”
It can be read for free at:

UN is saving face…. they are now denying they ordered the filipinos to surrender arms and white flags. Ohhhhh….. have some balls to admit your mistakes. I forgot you dont have the balls to defend your troups either. Have some backbone UN, the Philippines send you its finest soldier, just to wave white flags? This soldiers are guerilla fighters chasing and hunting abu sayaf in the depths of the forest, they have spent have their life ready to die. Surrender is not an option.

  • I want my country back

What good are UN forces if countries can withdraw when the fighting becomes too intense or are asked by UN commanders to surrender? The UN typically only send “peacekeepers” anyway, why bother if you are not expected to defend yourselves? In addition, rules of engagement dictated by the UN or even US administrations to placate the UN simply result in dead soldiers that usually represent the good guys.

  • Jo Mama

Islam will never surrender…they want all people to either become muslims, pay a tax, or they will be #BEHEADED.

    • Dallas25305

They may surrender if there was an A bomb dropped on Mecca. The western soldiers of WW2 would wipe the ground with them. There would be none of this nice guy garbage Obama has forced on his soldiers. Simple take no prisoners.

    • kikorikid

Yes, so it is best to Kill them when they are found.
Islam comes ONLY to: Conquer, Submit, Convert, or Kill.

  • truebearing

Insurrection in the UN. That is great news. Good for Gen. Catapang. The UN should have been dismantled before it was created.

  • rbla

Probably learned their lesson from the horrors the Philippines have endured at the hands of Muslim separatists.

  • IslamDownpressesHumanity

So the muslim-nazis now have control of the Golan Heights? I hope not.

    • Daniel Greenfield

      They control the Syrian crossing

      • IslamDownpressesHumanity

Considering Syria is a non-functioning state wouldn’t it be wise for Israel to take back complete control of the Golan Heights? Not that I don’t have faith in UN “peacekeepers”.

  • kikikins

Good on you Filipinos.Never surrender to these monsters.

  • NJK

    Good for them.

  • RossPoldark

The UN. Isn’t it the MBH gestapo headquarters for Islam? Not surprise the Filipinos were told to lay down their arms. The UN would say lay down arms to anyone they consider the infidel. Little wonder the UN has also been very harsh with Israel. Reminds me of some leader of the past. Hum, could it be Hitler?

  • kikorikid

Yes, Unassing that AO was the right choice.
Now, will the Fijians all convert to save their necks?
Will ISIS behead or shoot them all?

  • Cajun Exile

Filipino’s have a great deal of experience dealing with Jemaah Islamiah and the Moro. As such they know very well that surrender is not an option.

  • Douglas J. Bender

Obama and the UN: “Lay down your weapons and surrender immediately, and endure likely beheading; or, continue fighting and face our wrath via global shaming on social media.”

  • Steve

If they would surrender their arms then they would only be ensuring that they would all eventually end up being killed. It’s better to die while fighting than to surrender and be held captive where they can torture and do anything they want to you.

  • IslamDownpressesHumanity

I’ve read that the UN was basically facilitating Katuysha rocket fire from Lebanon into Israel. They’re mostly useless, but particularly useless when opposing islamic-fascism.

    • joefoxx

Maybe that is why they kept finding rockets at the UN schools??? Now with this kinda tells the tale don’t it.

  • gerry

Well they have learnt from the twelve Belgian paratroopers who were told by the UN to surrender their weapons. We all know how it ended.

  • glenn47

And this is why we need to part ways with the corrupt UN. Does anyone remember the vile sex slave trade they had going a few years back?
We have no use for a group that is taking our rights and want us to conform to their agenda 21 and become communistic.
We could save ourselves billions every year.

  • Richard Fontaine

Actually that the ISIS terrorists can’t be trusted to keep up their end of the deal is very similar to their domestic counterparts The Democratic Party. Interesting point I think.

  • DontMessWithAmerica

They showed far more spunk and reason than any Americans in the FBI, IRS and all the other U.S. agencies being pushed by Obama to do unlawful acts harmful to our country. The only standup hero in our camp who comes to mind is Edward Snowden.

  • Cajun Exile

Apparently the UN “Peackeepers” motto is “Surrender of Peace”… which is not a good strategy in this day an age of Islamic “Hands Up! Heads Off!”™

  • KingHasNoClothes

And thanks also to their Irish Comrdaes who went to their aid.

  • Bacon For Ever!

The UN is a complete waste of taxpayer money.
They are puppets for the New World Order.
So the U.N. say’s “Surrender and let this religion of peace, cut off your head”.
What kind of evil idiots work in that hell hole?

  • Virgil Hilts

Better to die standing up than be slaughtered while on your knees.

  • joefoxx

The UN would like nothing better than to see the golan over run with ISIS. They will stage attacks on northern and western Israel, with Hamas and Muslem brotherhood to the south and Hezbollah to the north. Psalms 83 comes to mind.

Ji I hodhodhod, Ji I hodhodhod….. Jihad is coming to take us away, haha…. so, Mohammud, what is in picnic basket? (Heads of infidel United Nations cowards who surrendered.)

No. UN cowards easy to make into women and then kill. Armed “rednecks” who vote Republican much, much harder.

  • doucyet

    Are the UN peacekeepers French?

The Filipino solderis refused to surrender for the reason of self preservation – to keep their heads.

Thank God for the examples of the FIGHTING FILIPINOS. These guys remind me of the actual Filipinos who acted alongside John Wayne in Back to Bataan.
They are courageous as warriors and spiritual examples to the rest of us of what REAL MEN are/can be. Mabuhai!

  • William

I have friends who are Muslims. They really are not as scary as they appear in the propaganda.

    • guyjones

You’re missing the point. With 1 billion plus adherents of the ideology of Submission, there are bound to be some friendly Muslims. The fact that not all of them are running around wreaking havoc and slitting throats is hardly cause for celebration, when all it takes is a handful of zealots willing to die for the faith, to cause endless problems for the rest of us. And, ask yourself, why is that the so-called Muslim “moderates” have been completely powerless to make the jihadists irrelevant and shunned, powerless to banish them from the Islamic tent? It is
because the latter group are the ones who are merely following Islamic scripture and tenets faithfully and to the letter! And, the jihadists are receiving tacit (and, often overt) rhetorical, financial and theological support from Muslim “moderates.”

More problematic is the theological underpinning of Islam. Muslims believe that there is no legitimate belief system outside of Islam and that the “infidel” must be converted or destroyed. It is this aspect of self-appointed ideological/theological supremacy, along with the Qu’ran’s unabashed vilification of non-Muslims, which lend Islam its unmistakably totalitarian and fascistic tenor. If you can’t fathom this, you are delusional.

  • glpage

The Un told peacekeeper forces to surrender??? Once again, the UN proves its leadership is completely moronic.

  • Jon Zee

I am a Filipino. It is never an option for our soldiers to surrender to terrorists. These fine soldiers have experienced worst than the Golan order. Some of these men lost their families to terrorists just to protect the nation and the Philippine flag. These men went to Golan Heights to help maintain peace. However, an order telling them to surrender will make them yell back at you with “Screw You!”.

I won’t be surprised if these soldiers get court marshalled under U.N. rule for their action. These men know what they’re doing and no court marshall can prevent these soldiers doing what they did for the 2nd time or more.

Tell Filipinos to surrender is like saying “Drop Dead”. Thus we won’t.

  • Papa Roach

Bravo Zulu to General Catapang for his gutsy call to protect the Filipino peacekeeping contingent. He is totally right in his order not to surrender and thus facilitated their escape. Special mention to the army captain who is in charge of that peacekeeping force that got his group out of the post and back to the camp.

And NEVER surrender your arms in the interior US either. Bath House Barry Ovomits’ goon squads will soon be on the prowl.

  • JAFO

I served as a UN peace keeper. Over those 7 months I came to learn the whole philosophy of “peace keeping” via the UN peace observers is hog wash. Peace keeping can only be accomplished by enforcing the peace. You want to send in troops to keep the peace then you best make sure they have the strenght of arms to enforce it.

  • Bob Smith

Remember if you surrender your guns, you have surrendered. The UN also wants you to surrender your guns. Follow the example of these Filipinos.

  • JustSayin’

To advise ANY Army to surrender to terrorists, unnecessarily, is UNACCEPTABLE! Bravo to the Philippines General for defying a direct order from the cowardly UN General. This Philippine General demonstrated courage and loyalty to his Army, and as a result they escaped w/their lives. Screw the UN. No General should hand over their men and women soldiers to the enemy without a kick-ass fight! I would fight courageously for a General who loved me and my country the way this Philippine General does. Obama should take lessons from this man in how to earn loyalty.

  • CaoMoo

I imagine the response was a kin to surrender F*** that.

  • Jason Weishaupt

Not quite, the Japanese armed forces are very good and the Japanese Navy never got rid of their Bushido Code and are more than capable of handling anything thrown at them. They are now giving Obummer the middle finger and upping the ante in taking care of their own affairs.

  • Rebel

Good for them that they did not surrender. The UN is so corrupt. Funny though how the UN told the troops to give up, but yet last week the UN ran into Israel for safety while ISIS was chasing them. Richard the Lionhearted, the King of England ordered the beheading of 2500 Muslim prisoners, men, women and children during the 3rd crusade while fighting against Saladin.Saladin could have done the same with his 2000 Christian prisoners but did not.Saladin eventually released all his prisoners.Extreme brutality is not just a Muslim thing..It was learned from us.

    • De Doc

Source? Muslims did not learn brutality from ‘us’. Their foundation stories (long before Saladin) already contained graphic accounts of how they disposed of enemies who surrendered to them. The Quran calls for ‘striking at the necks’ and also crucifixion. Stop acting like Muslims were savory sweet until the West taught them otherwise.

Just ask how the Fijians just gave up their weapon and their base camp without any resistance and allowed themselves to be captured? An order from the top most rank of the UNDOF command.

Peacekeepers should not hand over or surrender with the weapons because this rebels will not use those UN weapons to bring down a bird or cans but it will be use to widen the conflict more.

Now the Rebels acquired 40+ weapons from Fijian Peacekeepers, pretty much UN under General Singha and its leadership just handed over the weapons and ammunition to kill another 40 human being given that each rifle has only 1 bullet allocated to it ( a shy estimate only ) with those rifles from the surrendering Fijian UN Forces.

    • Johnny Bravo

The rebels have been given Thousands of guns and ammo by Saudi and Qataris you idiot ..these 40 rifles are not what they are are after .

      • 打败中国

And ask what the Coalition Countries who supply arms to UN would say, giving 40+ weapon and ammo to the ISIL Nustra Unit :)

They’re blessed with a smart commander — thank God he was more concerned for his troops than whatever consequences he might face disobeying incredibly stupid orders.

  • Ken Colditz

Very intelligent behavior. Goes to show how the UN lacks any intelligent leaders, or they are just siding with the Islamist. Seems the Islamist are trying to hold the World hostage and the UN is one of them.
