IRS Commish: “Whenever We Can, We Follow the Law”

Isn’t it nice of our overlords to condescend to occasionally follow the laws that are only binding on us, not on them. Good to know that Obama’s IRS is opportunistically lawful.

Just think about it. It could be entirely lawless. Just like their boss.

The IRS Commissioner has admitted that the IRS breaks the law when it wants to. A thorough discussion should follow on when the IRS does not follow the law.

“Whenever we can, we follow the law,” IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told the House Ways and Means subcommittee on health on Wednesday.

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), who leads the subcommittee, immediately expressed his concern with the remarks.

“I encourage you to follow the law in all instances,” Brady said.

Koskinen, who was confirmed as head of IRS last December, has repeatedly faced lawmakers’ ire over the agency’s targeting of conservative groups.

Now try telling the IRS that you follow the law whenever you can. This attitude is very revealing. The difference between a free country and a totalitarian state is the universal rule of law. In a tyranny, laws are binding on the subjects, not on the institutions of governments that subjugate them.

    Oh my.

More evidence that it’s time to get rid of the IRS.

  • glpage

Get rid of not only the IRS, but also any agency that is not specifically allowed by the Constitution.

Could we fund the military (or anything else) on just customs fees (& such) alone like we did prior to 1900.

My beef with the IRS and taxes is the what the tax rates should be set at, the progressive tax rate system and the needless complication of the tax code.

30+ % of people go to college. How many people can construct a Laffer curve because they have the mathematical knowledge (calculus) to do so?

  • De Doc

Gee, it instills real confidence in government, knowing that ethics are optional for our federal officials and employees.

  • Gee

Does that mean Americans should pay their taxes whenever they feel they can afford to? Seems to be acceptable with the IRS Commissioner.

  • tagalog

So how about “whenever we can, we pay our taxes.” Will that suffice?

  • truebearing

““Whenever we can, we follow the law,”

Which begs the question: “What is preventing you from following the law when you don’t…or more precisely, WHO is preventing you from following the law?”

  • cree

Well, this revelation is really just the latest in 6 plus years of attitude.

  • CaoMoo

Well I pay taxes whenever I can yeah that would fly
