IRS’s Lerner Targeted Conservative Non-Profits for Criminal Prosecution

It’s a free country. Until a few elections happen.

A FOIA request from Judicial Watch has uncovered e-mails from Lois Lerner that discussed an effort to push criminal prosecution of tax-exempt status applicants — and right before IRS targeting of conservative groups became public knowledge.

“I got a call today from Richard Pilger Director Elections Crimes Branch at DOJ, I know him from contacts from my days there. He wanted to know who at IRS the DOJ folk s [sic] could talk to about Sen. Whitehouse idea at the hearing that DOJ could piece together false statement cases about applicants who “lied” on their 1024s –saying they weren’t planning on doing political activity, and then turning around and making large visible political expenditures. DOJ is feeling like it needs to respond, but want to talk to the right folks at IRS to see whether there are impediments from our side and what, if any damage this might do to IRS programs.”

This sounds rather familiar.

Recently Mortimer Caplin announced his retirement at the age of 96. Caplin may have been the only IRS chief to appear on the cover of Time Magazine back when he was targeting JFK’s political enemies with audits as part of Kennedy’s “Ideological Organizations Project.”

“I remember that the president made a speech and I got a call from the White House again,” Caplin would later write. “The right-wing organizations were believed to be overstepping their tax-exemption bounds.”

Why did DOJ feel the need to respond? Who was pushing for criminal prosecution of the opposition?

    You too JFK?
It comes from Eric Holder and Obama but what can be done about it.
Unless Holder prosecutes nothing can be done.
A loop hole in the constitution?

      Impeachment.

WE on the right need to wake up.
Not only are the Dems totally comfortable using the government as a blunt instrument to bludgeon and destroy opponents or anyone who interferes with their message or power, this we know but what is generally less known is the depth and intensity of the disdain and hatred of the Left for the Right runs so deep, if they had the power to stuff us in reeducation camps, they would do it in a second.

Lerner and Holder didn’t want to prosecute the Tea Party, they wanted to persecute it. The prosecution was simply the means to an end.

This e-mail is incontravertible proof that, despite knowing they had no legal grounds, Lerner and the DOJ wanted to fabricate a pretense, then charge innocent people with crimes. Lerner is guilty of a criminal conspiracy to deprive Americans of their civil rights. So is Obama and so is Holder.

This revelation demands that impeachment proceedings commence against Holder immediately, unless he charges Lerner with some serious crimes. He won’t though, because her lawyers would negotiate for immunity and then he and Obama would be exposed. If nothing else, impeachment would show we aren’t going to take this crap entirely passively, and it would force the media to cover the scandal.

Lerner’s “castle” in Bethesda MD is proof positive that “some pigs are more equal than others.” I wonder what its assessed value is.

It’s interesting that Lois Lerner has no Facebook page. And I wondered how she could afford that Bethesda MD “castle.” Here’s why: She’s married to an Obamaton tax attorney.
