More and more parents are rejecting CC, and also do not like the private information gathered about their children....the government throws money at the schools, so they will implement common core...The adds saying it will make children smarter is a lie. The Fordham Institute has graded Common Core very low, they say its an Agenda...NOT a Curriculum!

Just the knowledge that parents have no input and the school administrators don't care what parents OR teachers think should drive every parent to oppose this dumbing down. It is funded by elitists who have only their own interests at heart.
Bear in mind THEIR children will NOT be attending these Dumb Schools as their kids will be learning how to use our children for their own ends.

Remember, a parent was arrested at a Towson, Maryland community meeting, for asking the Superintendent of a Maryland school district a hard-ball question about Common Core. The Superintendent wasn't supposed to be getting a real question; so it's one of those plans that just has to be adopted to find out what's in it. There's nothing good about Common Core--the standards(if you can call them that) are watered down and unclear; and cursive isn't taught at all. But don't take my word, go to the web site of Dr. Mary Grabar--she's written about Common Core extensively. The Republicans should be ashamed for supporting this nonsense; don't vote Republican, if you don't have to.

Yes, I don't see any upside for a Republican to support Common Core. Support won't win a single vote but it will drive away those with strong feelings, as you note. It's best to focus on other issues but give a sign that you'll oppose the manipulative incentives that push states into federal compliance.

The only problem with national standards is that mistakes will be national catastrophes. I'd rather see mistakes localized and isolated. At least (1) we can contrast localities (2) we can escape.

I remember when Bill Bennett became educational czar under Reagan. He realized he could use his power to change things for the better. I still advocated getting rid of the Dept of Ed because I knew that someday Bill would be replaced by an ideologue of the Left. It better to destroy power when your in power since you'll have little chance to take away someone else's power.

Educational standards should not be left up to the government - that's a large part of the problem here. If they are up to the government, that means they are "controlled by ideologues of the Left" for the Left is the party of government.

Based on what I have seen of Common Core, I believe that it unnecessarily complicates the teaching of a subject which will adversely affect a child's ability to learn. Therefore, Common Core violates the KISS principle. KISS is an acronym for "keep it simple, stupid". I learned this years ago from a high school teacher that I once had, Basically, the idea is that the simpler you make a subject the easier it is for more people to really learn it. This is only common sense which seems to be lacking in academia.
