Jerry Brown Pardons Woman Who Tried to Kill Boyfriend for Insurance Money

California drank the Kool Aid

California drank the Kool Aid

If only Jerry Brown’s good friend Jim Jones had survived, I’m sure his pal would have pardoned him by now. But instead Jerry had to settle for dispensing pardons for minor crimes.

Like murder.

A woman who was convicted in Merced County of attempting to solicit the murder of her ex-boyfriend received a pardon from Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday.

Anong Baker received one of the 105 pardons that were issued by the governor, according to a statement from Brown’s office.

Baker, who at the time lived in Atwater, tried to hire an undercover police officer in 1991 for $10,000 to murder Illya Boyd so she could collect on a $50,000 life insurance policy. She was convicted in April 1992 and served four years as well as five months of probation for the crime, completing her sentence Oct. 1, 1996.

Boyd and Baker dated for more than a year when he was stationed at the former Castle Air Force Base.

I’m not clear on how you get pardoned for trying to have a man killed for the insurance money. Did Anong Baker, like Jim Jones, do some campaign work for Governor Moonbeam?

California seems like a lost cause. Is there something about that great weather that makes people crazy?

    • trickyblain

I guess crazy is a good thing, considering we have the best economy in the country (8th largest in the world). A lost cause? Nah, that would be those who froth about Obama being a Manchurian candidate/Son of Satan/Muslim/Foreign-born commie.

      • halevi

I guess if you judge your economy by high unemployment rates high tax burdens, high traffic and high cost of living, then, yes, California is one of the best economies.

        • kiwi41

And the most multi cultural, where whites are now the minority………..
And it will get worse…..MUCH worse !

      • Daniel_Greenfield

You have a large population, a huge percentage of the tech industry in the world and a lot of illegal aliens.

Don’t confuse that mess, which non-tech companies are fleeing, with the best economy in the country.

You have the most billionaires and the highest poverty rate in the country. That’s not a great economy. That’s South America.

It’s almost an accident of history that Silicon Valley is located in California and not Texas or New Jersey. Without Shockley moving to California, no Intel, no Apple, no PARC, no synergistic hub to act as a magnet, most programmers would probably try to cluster near the Microsoft campus instead.

Regardless, it’s easy to see how a few pioneers do not give bragging rights to leftist politicians that want to punish success. And certainly not their idiotic constituents that want to brag about where they live either.

          • trickyblain

Brag about where they live? What are your thoughts on the history of the US? Are you proud to be an American? Isn’t that bragging about where you were raised and live? And wouldn’t you defend her from attack?

You overrate programmers. They are clustered in Banglore, too, right now. They are implementers — executing feasible ideas from someone else.

          • objectivefactsmatter

I’m not chauvinistic about the state I come from. The same kind of success culture exists elsewhere. I’m chauvinistic about the US Constitution and the US culture but I don’t feel the need to exaggerate anything or make heroes out of people who were merely fortunate to be in one place versus another.

“You overrate programmers. They are clustered in Banglore, too, right now. They are implementers — executing feasible ideas from someone else.”

Then you are familiar with the trend that will only continue.

          • objectivefactsmatter

To put it quite simply, Californians should be proud to be Americans. If California was ruled by Mexico the only difference between Northern California and Baja Mexico would be the weather.

          • Tim N

            I always have been.

          • Daniel_Greenfield

But they do give resources to bleed off which is how this problem got a lot worse.

        • trickyblain

Your problem with California is that we are wildly successful, yet defy your false perception that everyone needs to think and be like you to achieve. The reality is thankfully the opposite. Homogenous cultures stagnate and die. They offer the world nothing new because they are unchallenged. California’s success started long before anyone … it stared with James Marshal at Sutter’s mill.

I live and work here. You compose fascist propaganda of my state from 3000 miles away (i.e., “fake drought”). Brown is popular — and works with — with both sides of state gov’t. You note that he gave a pardon to someone who completed her term over a decade ago. I see a guy who eats his brown bag lunch on a bench across the street from the Capitol with a couple security dudes looking on nervously, wishing he’d sequester himself.

A simple test: examine the U-Haul one-way rental rates from CA to Texas and from TX to CA. The rates from CA to TX are much higher. Why? More people are leaving CA to go to TX than the other way around. There are good reasons for that.

A number of super-wealthy people living in ultra-expensive housing being serviced by poorly-paid Mexican and Asian immigrants, while your middle class is being squeezed out of existence, is not a model for the future. I wonder if we should bother to rescue you when you collapse. Of course, we’ll have to impose some Conservative reforms to basically make Progressive policies unconstitutional, but only that will revive you once taxes, spending, regulation, and cultural insanity have laid waste to your once-great state.

          • Tim N

I know. Texas is paradise on Earth.

          • Joe The Gentile

‘Homogenous cultures stagnate and die’ is popular nonsense.

          • Daniel_Greenfield

California is getting rather homogeneous these days. And it’s exactly the progressive idea that everyone has to think alike that I have a problem with in my “fascist” propaganda.

And incidentally, the Freedom Center is based out of CA.

      • Yehuda Levi

        Quantity has never equaled quality.

California is a fiscal disaster – as are most states ran by Democrats. You can also add Obama’s increase in the national deficit from $10 trillion to $18 trillion (80% increase) in only six years.

      • objectivefactsmatter

It’s amazing how quickly parasites are attracted to wealth.

      • cree

Only if you don’t become beyond hope delusional from the progressive ideology, you’ll see some truth troubling your tricky brain, eventually. From past to present history will confirm it for you. You’ll need to keep humility in mind though. To help with a clue, consider past and present Detroit and its continuous democrat government of the past 50 years. Detroit is only one of many too (they try to keep those kind of facts withheld; no humility).

Your loyalty to a once great state is to your credit. Obama though is only great at lying. Only can assume you haven’t yet accepted 6 years of proof if you still defend a pathological liar, as President, no less.
        Best wishes.

        • trickyblain

Frivolously attempting to get folks to see that a POTUS that is, more or less, acting like every other POTUS is not “defending.”

I don’t know what Detroit has to do with this, but best wishes and a Merry Christmas to you as well.

          • http://www.stubbornthings.org NAHALKIDES

Detroit was destroyed by the same statism (you may know it as progressivism, socialism, or the middle-of-the-democratic-party-in-California-ism) that is currently destroying you, and you will end up the same way as Detroit if you don’t smarten up and change course.

Your unfunded liabilities are off the charts, but I understand the Left under Moonbeam Brown are pretending he’s got your fiscal situation under control. Hoo-ha!

      • http://www.stubbornthings.org NAHALKIDES

By what measure do you think you have the “best economy” in the country? (Largest isn’t best). Not in terms of growth or unemployment, that’s for sure. Are you really unaware of all the people and businesses leaving your state for greener pastures and your cities that have already gone bankrupt? Sure, CA is big and rich, and you can’t destroy it by looting (also called “welfare”), regulations, and assorted craziness over night. But you can destroy it eventually, and you will unless your recognize the error of your political beliefs (Progressivism) and correct them accordingly. See Detroit for your future if you don’t change course.

The communists and fellow travelers infiltrated Hollywood and the schools very early on in California. The first blatant evidence of this would be some of the films they started cranking out in the 1960s and the hippy movement that was welcomed there by the communists in power. Once the unemployed hippies and the university infiltrators were allowed to openly agitate for communism (or socialism or “social justice” and whatnot) the devastation began to become obvious.

California does have a lot of things going for it that politics can’t ruin overnight. It looks like it will take another decade or so for the failure to be complete. China will take over most manufacturing and code warriors will be connected via the web to get most projects done. You’ll have a few high tech companies that keep HQ there with fewer and fewer employees. Only the port traffic will keep tax revenue from tanking completely.

  • http://www.stubbornthings.org NAHALKIDES

In most other states, this would be a major scandal. But in CA, as in other places where the Democratic Left has a hammerlock on power, it’s just business as usual. But you really have to wonder how much longer any state, even CA, can hold up under this lunacy.

It already is, whites are already the minority……………and it’s getting worse.

Unfortunately, the median average IQ of the population is on a death spiral to the bottom…………..
