It might not be in this election, but it does look like she’s getting ready for it.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren is traveling to the Middle East countries, her first trip abroad as a senator.
The Massachusetts Democrat met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Monday in Tel Aviv, according to the Jerusalem Post. She then attended the Knesset — the Israeli legislature — before meeting with other Israel officials.
Warren, who arrived in Israel Saturday, is expected to meet with Israeli, Palestinian and United Nation officials in the region, while traveling to both the West Bank and Jordan, according to the Boston Globe.
Israel isn’t exactly Warren’s beat. The last time she made headlines was when she was tricked by fake Holocaust survivor Eva Steiner Moseley into endorsing Hamas. It wasn’t really Warren’s fault since she didn’t have enough knowledge to understand the tricky question Eva asked.
Usually Elizabeth Warren sticks to fake threats against Wall Street that play well with her supporters without actually meaning anything. She might be getting nervous about 2018 another midterm election with the “wrong” electorate where Republicans have been doing a little too well lately. It’s entirely possible that Warren might lose in 2018, but it’s also a little premature for her to be worrying about it right now.
2016 is nearer though and if Warren is going to run, the Middle East, particularly Israel is part of the grand tour. Presidential candidates make the usual visits, nod knowingly and then have a story to tell that emphasizes their international experience while appealing to Jewish voters.
The visit suggests that Warren may have presidential ambitions.
