Nancy Pelosi Was Against Unilateral Action in Iraq, Before She Was For It

Same old story. Same old Democratic Party which was concerned about an imperial presidency when a Republican was in the White House, but thinks it’s awesome when a Democrat is squatting in the Oval Office.

I’ll let you know what’s going on, but I don’t need new congressional authority to act, President Barack Obama told congressional leaders Wednesday about his upcoming decision on possible military intervention in Iraq.

First in line to protest was Nancy Pelosi.

Top Democrats, including Pelosi, have decried the president’s latest plans. Pelosi, D-Calif., said Monday, “If the president is proposing an escalation, we want to see a justification for the mission.” She added that any funding for a surge would be “subjected to some pretty harsh scrutiny.”

Sorry, that was Pelosi’s response to Bush’s Iraq Surge.

Nancy Pelosi has claimed in the past that the 2002 AUMF did not even grant Bush the power to increase the troop levels in a military action that was unambiguously authorized by Congress:

But what a difference a Democrat makes.

“All of the authorities are there. That doesn’t mean I want all of them to be used, especially boots on the ground,” she said. “But I definitely think the president has all of the authority he needs by dint of legislation that was passed in 2001 and 2003.”

What does Pelosi want? She doesn’t know until Obama decides. It’s pathetic that Congressional Democrats have been reduced to a tail wagged by the White House dog.

Pelosi can’t take a firm position on Iraq until Obama does. So her only position is that whatever Obama does is right.

That’s a position familiar to any Soviet underling who believed that whatever the Great Leader did was good.

Pelosi is probably one of the most obvious leftists who had heartburn with Bush’s “imperial presidency” and none whatsoever with Obama’s. Just about all left politicians, media talking heads, etc. are right there with her. I guess it’s okay to have an imperial presidency if you’re really egregious about it. Bush was a piker compared to Obama.

Yeah, and she was also for torture before she was against torture, and then she denied being there for her CIA briefing on torture. She must have been having an out of body experience calibrated with the lunar cycle.

We can all be glad that American journalists have a mind of their own, always think for themselves, and never walk in lock-step with anybody.

      What’s a RINO?

      • Texas Patriot

RINO’s aren’t independent thinkers? What a surprise. When I first posted on this board I think I commented that I was a Barry Goldwater Conservative and that most posters here, including you, seemed to be several degrees to the Left of where I stood. Nothing has changed my mind about that. WolfKnowsItAll is the only exception to that rule that I can think of, and that’s because we both actively campaigned for Goldwater in the 1964 campaign as Young Republicans. Who were you campaigning for in that campaign? Were you even alive?

          “RINO’s aren’t independent thinkers? What a surprise.”

My point is that they are independent thinkers and their ideas are welcomed when consistent with conservative beliefs. There are lots of shades of gray on the right.

“When I first posted on this board I think I mentioned to you that I was a Barry Goldwater Conservative and that most posters here, including you, seemed to be several degrees to the Left of where I stood.”

The accusation more or less was that you had inconsistent and incoherent ideas. You were not rejected personally and your ideas were not rejected for “going off the reservation” but for their perceived problems.

Whether I am “to the left” of you in some respects might be true. But I’m not “to the left” of you with regard to the pernicious influence of Marxist and neo-Marxist leftist thinking. Which is 99.9% of the problem with the left today. That’s what I care most about rather than deciding how to categorize someone.

But in reality I don’t think I’m to the left of you at all. I simply have a different understanding of the interdependence of states in today’s world. That’s not about left or right. It’s just that leftists have different solutions to those realities.

You’re a conservative with respect to security issues and a leftist with respect to economic issues because you don’t really understand macroeconomics well enough to understand the conflicts between those two sets of ideas.

I don’t think you’re a bad guy at all. I think you should try to take criticism less personally.

Pelosi’s senile just like Harry Reid!
