New York Times Defends Abbas’ Holocaust Denial

Jodi Rudoren of the New York Times has been accused of bias before, but this is a breathtaking new low.

In an article today about Abbas’ statement condemning the Holocaust, Jerusalem bureau chief Jodi Rudoren writes: “Mr. Abbas has been vilified as a Holocaust denier because in his doctoral dissertation, published as a book in 1983, he challenged the number of Jewish victims and argued that Zionists had collaborated with Nazis to propel more people to what would become Israel.”

The Palestinian Authority leader’s dissertation was carried out at the Patrice Lumumba University in the USSR, notorious as a KGB outlet for training Third World activists and terrorists.

The dissertation was Soviet propaganda penned by a terrorist.

Abbas wrote, “Many scholars have debated the figure of six million and reached stunning conclusions — fixing the number of Jewish victims at only a few hundred thousand.”

That’s straightforward Holocaust denial. Most Holocaust deniers don’t claim that no Jews actually died. What they claim is that there was no organized killing campaign and that those who died, died in the natural course of events.

Abbas also blamed the Zionists for making the Nazis do it. “The Zionist movement led a broad campaign of incitement against the Jews living under Nazi rule to arouse the government’s hatred of them, to fuel vengeance against them and to expand the mass extermination”

There are also other conventional staples of Holocaust denial in Abbas’ thesis. And Abbas frequently quotes Holocaust deniers.

Abu Mazen has written that the German gas chambers were never used to kill Jews, but only to disinfect them and to burn bodies of others to prevent the flow of disease (quoting a “scientific study” to that effect by French Holocaust-denier Robert Faurisson)

Abu Mazen claimed that Hitler did not decide to kill the Jews until David Ben-Gurion provoked him into doing so when he [Ben-Gurion] “declared war on the Nazis” in 1942.

Abbas’ work was conventional Holocaust denial flavored with the expected Arab Nationalism and anti-semitic conspiracy theories. There’s nothing new about those either.

And there are few differences between Abbas’ view of the Holocaust and that of David Irving. Jodi Rudoren and the New York Times would never whitewash Irving and yet they choose to whitewash Mahmoud Abbas.

Anti-semitism is acceptable and even defensible to liberals… when the perpetrators are Muslims.

Rudoren’s characterization of Abbas being “vilified” for having “challenged” the number of Holocaust victims is consistent with her editorializing in another article last month. At the time, she unforgettably wrote that Israelis “demonized” Palestinian Muqdad Salah, who had bludgeoned to death the sleeping 72-year-old Holocaust survivor Israel Tenenbaum.

Through The Times’ lens, the Palestinian murderer of a Holocaust survivor is “demonized,” and the Palestinian Holocaust revisionist is “vilified.”

Even Rudoren’s article early this year about Palestinian incitement, including descriptions of Jews as “barbaric monkeys, wretched pigs,” never says that Palestinians “demonize” or “vilify” Jews or Israelis. Instead, Rudoren blandly refers to the anti-Semitic incitement as “negative statements.”

Calling a Muslim Holocaust denier, a Holocaust denier is “vilification”. But calling Jews, “barbaric monkeys” is a negative statement.

Anti-semitism is a Muslim privilege.

Let’s face it – nothing has changed – the NYT was a supporter of Germany and their genocide during the 1930s and 40s

I don’t believe the NYT was a supporter of national SOCIALIST Germany, but it did sweep under the rug, bury in the back, the slaughter of Jews – to get along with the Roosevelt administration.

      • Gee

Yes they were. They declared their admiration for Hitler and his policies

        • Davros11

And the pinko commies, Remember they praised Lenin and Stalin both!!

        • laura r

yes i saw it on line. then later they changed their minds, & fast. hitler was also on the cover of time mag as man of the year. check it out. the anti semitic stuff was there from day one. in the 1930s even most of NYC & the USA hated jews.

    • Davros11

Don’t forget that they are and have always been a propaganda arm for the Communists!

    Fighting nausea right now.

Yet the PLO and Arab states would have us believe that Israel practiced ethnic cleansing and genocide in what they term the Nakba, or catastrophe without a shred of fact or evidence to back their ludicrous assertions. It was the “Palestinians” who allied with the Third Reich, as history clearly proves. The Mufti was inciting Arabs to violence against Jews in Palestine while a nobody named Adolf was still sitting in Landsberg Prison. Long before any of this, Muhammad himself ethnically cleansed, first Medina of Jews, followed by Khaybar, then Abu Bakr and Umar ethnically and religiously cleansed Arabia. The PLO invented the “Palestinian” people, so they have no problem inventing any other “history” that suits their purpose to portray themselves as victims, all the while showing their breathtaking ignorance of not only their own past, but of world history. We also know that lying is integral to Islam, so no claim or level of deceit is beyond them.

The so called “Nakba” was the failure of 5 attacking Arab armies to defeat the tiny and poorly equipped Israeli army just 3 years after the end of WW2 and the Holocaust..

      That’s why I always say…

  • Habbgun

The New York Times is going to have some real editorial problems. If global warming skepticism is like Holocaust denial but Holocaust denial is simply skepticism we might need some sort of quantum mechanics to resolve it. Unfortunately the new Islamic chief editor of the NYT science section Iyah S’Lapah M’weef has said Death to Quantum Mechanics.

    • Daniel Greenfield

      It’s easy.

Global Warming is the real Holocaust. And the Holocaust was a Zionist invention.

      • Habbgun

Then where does the time dilation effect fit in? In five years time there will have been no consortium of United Nations bureaucrats, national politicians, academics and journalists who demanded carbon taxes.

Instead it will always have been a Jewish Zionist cabal of neocon bankers with the express goal of further impoverishing the poor of Africa and the middle east through neo-colonial expansion by Europe and America while simultaneously destroying white race accomplishments in haute cuisine and library science in order to empower third world nationalists. How about the lies that the Zionists are not behind CIA efforts to create a race of cultic, bigoted protoplasm with excellent credit scores?

The facts are clear. It was the Zionist warmongers that killed Schrodinger’s cat.

        • Daniel Greenfield

Though it should be pointed out that there’s a 50 percent chance that the cat was a Zionist.

  • Abberline

Holocaust denial is not only denying that the Holocaust actually took place but also 1) Holocaust minimization, (“Only a few hundred thousand Jews died”) 2) Moral equivalence (“Israel is acting in Gaza just like the Nazis did in Warsaw”).

  • herb benty

If twits like Abbas can reduce the number of Jews killed by Germany, people may feel less sorry for them. So the leftist money train to the “palestinians” will keep on chugging. Poland pre-WW2 had millions of Jews. After WW2- in the 10’s of thousands. That is just ONE European country where the Jews were rounded up and put on trains to the death camps. Frank Sinatra was part of the American liberating Army at the end of the war, he saw the horror in the camps. For many years afterwards Frank sent money to Israel. God Bless Mr. Sinatra, a good example to us all in the West.

Please provide a link to support your claim that Frank Sinatra was part of the liberating American army.

      • herb benty

You are right! Frank was denied military service because of his hearing loss. The LINK is to find out about his many contributions to the Jewish people and his unwavering support for Israel. I misunderstood someone else saying Frank “SAW” the death camps and wanted to help the Jews. What Frank saw was pictures. Mr. Sinatra donated millions to Israel, The “Frank Sinatra International Student Center” at Hebrew University was named for him, which was bombed by Arabs killing 9 people. He did award winning films for Israel, spoke at conferences, and even delivered a package, incognito, to the Haganah in New York at great personal risk. This is all for anyone to look up, however I thank you for asking for the link, as I don’t want to tell anything false. Sinatra, in an inconsistent life, was very consistent in his dealings with the Jewish people and Israel

  • ahad_ha_amoratsim

Disgusting but hardly surprising. The NYT buried news about the Shoah while it was going on, and editorialized when the Nazis took power that Hitler would never actually carry out the program for Jews that he had outlined in Mein Kampf.

  • Clare Spark

Northeastern American “Jewish” liberals have gone over to the Arab side of the Mid-East conflict. Take a look at the raves over Ari Shavit’s recent book My Promised Land, which adopts the Arab p.o.v. entirely. Or read what I wrote in response to the eerie silence regarding Holocaust Remembrance Day in that social democratic website: TABLET.

  • Hard Little Machine

Judi Rudoren is a holocaust denier and a racist. But then again, how else could she work for the NYT? It’s kind of a requirement.

  • Ken Kelso

When i think of Jodi Rudoren, I think of Samuel Rosenman,
    FDR had his Kissinger, too
Henry Kissinger was not the first Jewish adviser to an American president who urged his boss to refrain from rescuing Jews.

Nothing shocks me with the NY Times.
11 years ago they had radical Israel hater Avi Shlaim write an article saying the real obstacle to peace is Sharon, not Arafat. Shlaim tried to see this murderer Arafat was a moderate and man of peace.

Arafat’s Condolences to Dolphinarium Bomber’s Family: The Heroic Martyrdom Operation’…’A Model of Manhood and Sacrifice
    July 9, 2001
Maslama Thabet, leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades admitted in 2002 all orders to kill Israeli civilians comes from Arafat.

During the 12 year Civil War in Lebanon, caused by Yassir Arafat’s assuming power through terror, his terrorists committed mass murder. Whole villages of Christians like Damour were massacred, chopped into pieces with machetes. Out of the 30,000 Christians, 10,000 were slaughtered by Arafat’s PLO. The town was then occupied and kept as Arafat’s stronghold. David Shipler of the New York Times wrote the story of Damour June 21, 1982. There were individual murders.! One horrific, but typical, example is when the Muktar (leader) of a village refused to be cooperative with Arafat and his terrorists. The Muktar’s teenage daughter was abducted and raped. Her breasts were cut off and she was delivered to the doorstep of her father in a sack.

On the same day in 1993 on which Yasser Arafat signed the Declaration of Principles on the White House lawn, he spoke the following words on Jordan TV:
“Since we cannot defeat Israel in war we do this in stages. We take any and every territory that we can of Palestine, and establish a sovereignty there, and we use it as a springboard to take more. When the time comes, we can get the Arab nations to join us for the final blow against Israel.”

Arafat’s Stockholm speech in 1996 to Arab diplomats
“The Impending Total Collapse of Israel,” Stockholm, Sweden.
Arafat said that the PLO plans “to eliminate the State of Israel and establish a purely Palestinian State. We will make life unbearable for Jews by psychological warfare and population explosion; Jews won’t want to live among us Arabs.”
Arafat said: “I have no use for Jews..they are and remain Jews! We now need all the help we can get from you in our battle for a united Palestine under total Arab-Muslim domination!”

Following the murderous terrorist attack on Kibbutz Metzer, the PLO cold-bloodedly stated on its official website, “We will continue to strike in any place, targeting their children as well.” Five innocent Israelis, including a mother and her two little boys, were butchered in that attack, all of them, Fatah said, “Zionist colonizers” killed in a “qualitative operation in the settlement of Metzer.”

Here’s how the official Palestinian Authority newspaper Al-Hayat al-Jadida headlined its coverage: “Five Israelis killed in an attack on the settlement Metzer.” The report continued, “A Palestinian infiltrated the settlement Metzer and opened fire on the settlers.” It is not well known that the Palestinian press frequently refers to towns in Israel, such as Holon and Kiryat Shmona, as “settlements.” Besides implying that a ll of Israel is an illegitimate colonial outpost, such references clearly are brought to justify the killings and distinguish them from terrorism.

After the Tel Aviv massacre on January 12th 2003, where 2 Palestinian homicide bombers massacred 23 Israeli civilians. The PLO web site posted a statement — celebrating the attacks: “With faith in the calling of holy jihad,” it said, “two suicide attackers . . . succeeded this evening to infiltrate the Zionist roadblocks and to enter the heart of . . . Tel Aviv and carried out two consecutive suicide attacks… These suicide attacks caused a large number of fatalities and casualties in the center of the Zionist occupation of our land. We swear before our people that additional suicide operations will occur.” That is a view with which much of Arab opinion concurs., for ex ample, datelined its story on the Tel Aviv attack “Palestine-Israel,” and reported that the bombings had killed “23 Israeli settlers.”
This is a must read article detailing the sadist butcher Arafat was on Israeli civilians.
Then again, Arabs slaughtering Jews doesn’t bother Shlaim

The main thing is Arafat’s dead.
Whoever topped him deserves our gratitude for saving countless innocent civilians from death or maiming at the hands of his terrorist gang.
I humbly wish those concerned with this murderer Arafat, would show as much concern for the surviving families and loved ones of those he murdered.

    Did Israel kill Yasser Arafat?
And if so, was it justified?

Never Again is just a slogan for those mentally socially conformed college graduates and policy “wonks” who show up pretending there’s some kind of moral or social equivalence between Israel and the Islamic world.
There isn’t so the sooner you stop pretending there is, the sooner the truth will set you and the rest of the misinformed masses free.

  • rivkah f.

The NYT’s Rudoren and other reporters often engage in moral equivalence between Israel and the Palestinians. I recall that in April, 2002, during the intifada, Joel Greenberg wrote an article in the NYT comparing a Palestinian teenage female terrorist and her Jewish Israeli victim whom she murdered near a Jerusalem supermarket. It was like two strangers who met and shared the same fate. But this whitewash of Abu Mazen really takes the prize. What a perversion of language and an insult to intelligence. Rudoren really must work hard to twist the truth or perhaps, distortions already come naturally.

Any thinking person who values honest, truthful journalism over socialist propaganda should not buy the new york times.

  • bob smith

Rudoren…clearly qualifies for some sort of recognition from Brandeis

  • chaim goldman

The forms of holocaust denial mostly used is the Moral Equivalence path to equate Israel with Nazis.
