Obama Blames California Drought He Caused on Global Warming

A stream of water trickles on the bottom of the Almaden Reservoir near San Jose

I hear Global Warming was also responsible for ObamaCare, the National Debt and Obama’s poor golf game.

Obama helped cause the drought in California and now he’s going to blame Global Warming and funnel more money to the Green Mafia over a drought that the Green Mafia thinks doesn’t go far enough.

The House will pass legislation next week that would restore the flow of water to farms, homes and businesses in California’s Central Valley, to help victims of what congressional Republicans say is a drought that is being made worse by the Obama administration.

In 2009, the Obama administration upset that agreement by requiring the diversion of water away from farmers and residents to help ensure enough water for salmon and a three-inch fish called the Delta smelt. The Obama administration justified this under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), but California Republicans say this decision led to a government-created drought for regions of California’s Central Valley.

The bill would require California to restore water deliveries to the Central Valley that were made under the 1994 Bay Delta Accord, which the GOP says was a compromise between residents, farms, environmentalists, and the state and federal government.

“Environmentalists have decided that fish are more important than the unemployed,” said House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). He said the bill “puts families before fish.”

Earlier in the day, the Obama administration said it opposes the bill and Obama would veto it if it made it to his desk.

Obama has a better idea. Of course.

Obama on Friday will travel to California to announce new executive actions to combat the state’s drought and will attribute the growing frequency of such conditions to climate change.

Obama will announce the expediting of $100 million in assistance for livestock producers, $60 million in food-bank funding for families affected by the drought and another $15 million for areas nationwide most severely harmed by dry conditions.

On a broader level, the president will use his trip to Fresno, Calif. to urge leaders to do more to fight climate change. The president will call for a $1 billion “climate resilience fund” in his budget next month, according to the White House.

Just no actual water. But $1 billion for the Green Mafia’s Eco-Hoax that is impoverishing farmers and ranchers.

“Obama will announce … food-bank funding for families affected by the drought and another $15 million for areas nationwide most severely harmed by dry conditions.”

Robber Barons would pay substandard wages and then use the pocketed money to give back to the community Libraries and other institutions bearing their name.

Obama a does the same using the vehicle of the government.

    • Samo

One difference that I can see is that the “Robber Barons” produced
products that benefitted people: Electricity, food, cars ,trucks, medicine. Product after product…. and yeah they did build libraries and hospitals.
Bill Gates is doing the same thing.
      Obama? What has he produced?
He’s a “Robber Baron” alright, he robs us and gives to his buddies Solyndra and the SEIU and anyone else who he can buy a vote from.
At least the Industrialists gave things we can use.
Obama just stands in front of the mirror and thinks he’s giving us his wonderful self and that we should be grateful for that.
I’ll be grateful when he’s gone.

      • carpe diem 36

he is no Baron, just a Robber!! what a POS of a prez!!

While the little fish will benefit, the real reason to stop the current water policy in the Delta is that it is becoming brackish or to salty to be of any use for the farmers in the future. Taking to much water from the Delta for the farmers lets the ocean water get to far inland and deposit its salts.

Water management in CA is complicated and to blame it on a little fish is BS to feed an emotional hot button for a dumb public who will vote against their own self interest.

If Big Ag wants to plant more of the very dry part of the Central Valley a better solution is to bring water from the very far northern parts of CA via tunnels under the delta. It a big infrastructure project but it will be a viable long term solution to having more water for ag.

    • Sugarsail1

except that the majority of the irrigation water for the entire region is taken near the head waters of the San Joaquin River not the delta and that’s the water they’re just dumping downstream for the fish so your point is invalid. Alwaysthink indeed.

      • tickletik

Would you be willing to elaborate for those of us that don’t understand the issue? I say that because what you guys are both saying is interesting, and it’s a shame that I don’t understand what is clearly and important comment

        • Sugarsail1

California has the delta smelt on its protected species list and mandates a certain volume of water to be released into the San Joaquin river to maintain the fish’s habitat. Unfortunately, for the last several years there has not been enough rainfall to supply both the farmers AND satisfy the endangered species mandate (California is prone to extended drought, this is nothing new or related to global warming, in fact it is why we have such a vast water infrastructure in the first place). Liberal politicians, pandering to their environmental constituency, when faced with the choice of letting farmers have the water or letting the water go down the river to the fish have chosen the fish over the farmers. As a result, the nation has had rising food costs due to reduced production and more importation from places like Mexico. The water scarcity is a combination of continuing drought conditions which we get every decade or two, and bad politics that favor fish over human beings. Next time you go to the store and pay huge amounts of money for produce…you know who to blame.

          • Sussex Girl

How about Californians stop using water for things that could not exist naturally in a semi-arid climate, say, golf courses, swimming pools, and lawns? How much water could be saved and diverted to agriculture if Palm Springs in the desert didn’t have golf? If there were no backyard pools in LA County and elsewhere? If front yards across the state were planted with the native flora that can survive on the natural rainfall?

          • Sugarsail1

Good idea, I bet you’re the first who ever thought of that. They already have progressive water rates and prohibitions on water usage during drought in many municipalities…people don’t fill their pools on a regular basis so it’s not really a major consumer, and golf courses and other large grass area in SoCal use drought tolerant grass and gray water irrigation which would just go down the sewer if it were not used. People are starting to plant their lawns with a more water friendly fauna as well, my neighbor just did. Palm springs is not on the San Joaquin water system…the issue in the agricultural area of the San Joaquin valley is created solely by environmental politics.

          • Ed Ramz

You are farming in a desert and you’ve pumped from aquifers so that some places are now pumping brine. Pray for rain or repurpose the XL pipeline to bring water from the eastern part of the USA.

          • Sugarsail1

You’re an idiot. We don’t farm in deserts and the places that are arid and lack rainfall are large watersheds from snow capped mountains with big rivers running through them, like the south end of the San Joaquin valley. Look at a map for once.

          • Ed Ramz

I’ve looked at the maps, and the rivers are colored a nice blue. I’ve also looked at a dried up Kern river, as I sped through on HWY99, and the San Joaquin river didn’t look full of water either. I also hear that the snow pack is at 15% this year, which means less water in the rivers. The water you use in the valley is finite, the wells are running dry and the rainy season will have to wait till next year.

    • carpe diem 36

maybe a better way is to use the Israeli invention called drip system to grow crops, it used water very efficiently and uses a lot less of it. it is cheap enough and very effective. i am surprised that no one thought of it. of course it does not work as well with live stock.

      • BobbyJoe

“The Israelis invented drip irrigation” <- That's a blatant lie…

        • carpe diem 36

          you are so ignorant.

  • MarilynA

Another act by our omnipotent President who obviously thinks he is smarter than God and can reverse the forces of nature that control the weather, and other things. With the stroke of the pen he thinks he can reverse the natural order of things. This just shows you how well our self esteem building programs in our public schools are working. By confirming that 2 plus two 2 equals five, if a moron thinks it’s so , in order to enhance his self esteem and make him think he is as smart as everyone else, we have created the ultimate faux intelligent President. These hyped up morons now think they know more than God, as evidenced by our less than most qualified, affirmative actioned President. The sad part is that over 50% of the American public believe it too. Actually they believe anything that any one tells them as long as that person claims to be promoting something “for their own good.” PT Barnum said it well. “there’s a sucker born every minute.”

    • Ed Ramz

      Pray for rain

  • kendrick1

We’ve destroyed our water tables by prohibiting precipitation to sink into the soil where it can be preserved. We send much of the precipitation out to sea!

President Obama Lost his Brains in a “Smelting” Acdcient
The president is dumber than dumb, if he thinks he will able to get away with this. I cannot think of any of my friends, on the
right or left, who does not remember this “smelting” incident so very clearly. Even then Gov.
Schwarzenegger (R) was on the phone with the president, who’s “hands
were tied,” due to environmental (endangered species) legislation. No room for exemptions?
This did not just hurt the food supply, but hurt employment, with
nothing to pick, to transport or to sell, not to mention hurting the
    ENVIRONMENT!!! (cont.)

  • truebearing

Naturally Obama is going to use cash to create dependency rather than solve a problem. Ironically, he is spending $175 million to temporarily help the victims, while spending fives times that much to further fund the ideological cabal that created the dought to begin with. This squandering of yet another billion dollars is part of the fiscal drought Obama is intentionally imposing on America. That makes two droughts, and both are Obama’s doing.

Obama’s insidious solution to the California drought completely ignores the loss of fruit and vegetable production from California farms. His “Green Drought” creates a food shortage that his puny efforts don’t begin to address. Of course, we can buy more produce from foreign countries, but at a greater overall cost to this nation and without the oversight on pesticides, contamination, etc. It also makes us more dependent on foreign countries, which fits nicely into any transnationalist’s scheme. Both of these droughts are entirely intentional. Once again, Obama the evil one is working overtime to weaken America.

    • Daniel Greenfield

“Ironically, he is spending $175 million to temporarily help the victims,
while spending fives times that much to further fund the ideological
cabal that created the dought to begin with.”

That’s the whole lefty game plan. 1/5th to make it look like he cares, 4/5 to make the problem worse.

      • JGSRELP

        Derp Derp.

I wonder if you spoke about our past Presidents like this. You know Bush/Cheney did more to destroy this nation than Obama ever could. But you probably have the memory of a goldfish and dont remember. Or are being disingenuous on purpose. Cuz reality does not support your assertions.

    • CowboyUp

Isn’t he fast tracking food imports from China? He seems to want to import our food, along with everything else.

      • truebearing

It weakens our economy and forces people into dependency. The more dependent people are for food, health care, etc, the more control he has. It’s all about ways to leverage power.

Droughts – No Problem – Just pass Amnesty

No Infrastructure – No Problem – Just pass Amnesty

No Insurance – No Problem – Just pass Amnesty & O-care

No Jobs – No Problem – Just pass Amnesty, O-care and take
jobs from the people who pay taxes to keep entitlements alive for non-Americans

Revolution – No Problem – Just pass Amnesty – O-Care – take jobs from the American people who pay taxes and create a standing army to fight
the American people who are paying taxes to keep entitlements alive for non-Americans. It is the American way!

    • Guest

      So your solution is what?

      • hdtex

They don’t have one….they never do. To anything.

It seems like you are a one trick pony without anything of substance to say. Amnesty? you mean like the last 4 other Presidents have done? Do you even know what you are talking about?

Oh and Obama had Jobs Bills and they included infrastructure spending but the republicans blocked all of them. They were too busy trying to repeal the ACA for the 50th time.

You sound like an upset 14 year old.

  • Mister Lackey

Let’s face it: a man who bowls a 37 will not possess the best logic skills.

    • Sio

I too measure a person’s capacity for logic by how well they perform in a sport that requires none.

      • Mister Lackey

Your dear leader “leads” the same way he bowls; self-possessed, belligerent, haughty, and wreckless.

But you’re correct: I should have said that he possesses “no logic skills”.

Bowling does require a little logic: if you just square your damn shoulders, look at the correct arrow or pin, maintain a straight delivery of the ball, and be consistent, you will score MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH(!!) higher than a 37. Little kids, half paying attention and without bumper guards, score higher than did our demagogue-in-chief.

We’re suffering an inadequate, yet dangerously egomaniacal President, your veiled defense speaks volumes about your own selfishness, belligerence, haughtiness, and wrecklessness.

  • Lanna

The President of the United States cares more about his Socialist-Communist agenda. When the President of the United States cares more about a fish, than the human condition, or jobs, the state of the nation will continue to decline, as well as the lives of the people…he is SUPPOSED TO SERVE!

  • Adam

May be semantics, but Obama didn’t “cause” the drought, he and others exacerbate it by limiting the water supply thru legislation. Even with water its still a drought, but not as painful since you can irrigate things.

Saying he caused the drought brings up connotations of him waving his pen and phone and the rain clouds magically disappearing, rather than what he is actually doing: making it hurt ;)

    • ltneid

Something else that seems odd is that this bill mandates sending water into the Central Valley, but all of the reservoirs are very low and there’s no water to send.
Maybe the Republicans can pass a bill that would mandate God to make it rain.

    • James Seidel

Incompetence is no excuse. If dullards like you were ever to pay attention to the words spoken, not the “Color” of the man’s skin, maybe we would not be having this conversation. Remember he warned us that the Office of The President of the United States of America was way above his paygrade. The first Black President ever (not counting Bill), serving two terms, our country is broke and in a 3rd world grave yard… Thanks Dullard.

  • Tyler

    You’re an idiot.

  • KSV

water was taken from Northern California, run in open canals against
the flow of the San Joaquin river to southern CA which richly wastes the
water it grabs from the Colorado River. The delta is at the San
Francisco Bay and in preserving the delta smelt preserves the Bay Area
and Sacramento River ecosystems. In the meantime there was no rain for
over a year in SoCal and that can’t be blamed on Obama.

    • James Seidel

The domoncrats still blame bush, I blame them all. They want to run the lives of “We The People?” Then they can take the blame for everything. I am not going to comply the the Corporation of the United States.

  • Barryeod

Why should we worry more about debt than we do about the environment? Since the dollar is a fiat currency, we can never run out of dollars. I understand that printing more dollars devalues the dollars currently in existence, but that would be good for jobs would’t it? Other nations, like China and Japan buy dollars to artificially make their currency weaker while making the dollar stronger. This makes it easier to export their products to the US and more difficult for us to sell to them. Global warming, on the other hand, is real. It’s not new science. It’s not unproven science. It’s physics. http://www.aps.org/units/fps/newsletters/200807/hafemeister.cfm
Conclusion: Earth is getting warmer. Basic atmospheric models clearly predict that additional greenhouse gasses will raise the temperature of Earth. To argue otherwise, one must prove a physical mechanism that gives a reasonable alternative cause of warming. This has not been done. Sunspot and temperature correlations do not prove causality.

Global warming is not going away. Spend money. Attempt to alleviate some of the pain. Save as many species as you can (even Republicans).

  • tchowski

OMG I thought this was an Onion headline. Then I started reading the comments and realized I had walked into the Rightwing Echo Chamber. It’s scary in here with all the “truth” bouncing back and forth. I almost feel sorry for you. I mean, you must realize that your impotent rage is the most radical fringe ideology of the right wing, and that you stand exceedingly little chance of gaining national power. Good luck, and may you find some way of living in a nation which has no interest in your agenda outside small pockets of bigotry and ignorance.

    • JCF

  • Joe knows who I am.

Wow, serious denial in this echo chamber.

  • prestonbuell

    How ignorant.

  • Histproff

Your complete lack of critical thinking skills, logic, and reasoning is quite astounding! Thank you for supplying so much fertile ground for my freshman logic class to cover. It is always helpful to use extremely obvious examples of logical fallacies for beginning students.

On what planet do you people live? Its clearly not earth or in this reality. Its sad that this is an article by adults for other adults. It reads like a teenagers rantings.
