Obama Officials: America Did Not Live Up to its Values After 9/11

Par8026865

Who needs anti-war activists to shout this stuff in the streets? Now we have a government run by these same radical left-wing extremists.

The Obama administration told a UN panel in Geneva on Wednesday that the United States had tortured terrorism suspects after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, but that it had since taken steps to prevent any future use of unlawful, coercive interrogation techniques.

“The United States is proud of its record as a leader in respecting, promoting, and defending human rights and the rule of law, both at home and around the world,” Mary McLeod, the acting State Department legal adviser, told the panel. “But in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, we regrettably did not always live up to our values.”

Assistant Secretary Tom Malinowski added, “A little more than ten years ago, our government was employing interrogation methods that, as President Obama has said, any fair minded person would believe were torture…  In 2008, Americans of our two major political parties chose presidential candidates who were resolutely opposed to torture.  And President Obama further reinforced the ban in an Executive Order in his first days in office.”

Deputy Assistant Attorney General Criminal Division David Bitkower added. “My colleagues from the State Department have discussed ways in which the United States has not always lived up to its values.  The Department of Justice has been part of the broad, long-lasting, and comprehensive effort to examine those failures and ensure they do not happen again.”

Anything to help the terrorists win.

President Obama has tortured Americans with his liberal polices that have destroy middle class and left me to be homeless .

    • SCREW SOCIALISM

Obama is NOT Liberal, he’s a Socialist.

He thinks he knows better than anyone else – that’s what his Socialist handlers have whispered in his Dumbo ears since college.

The next few weeks will be VERY INTERESTING as he tries to push his illegal alien “amnesty” down the throats of Americans. I hope Congress and the Supreme Court can stop him in his tracks.

  • tagalog

The torture hobby horse rears its ugly head again, this time as a violation of some unnamed American values. “Human rights…and the rule of law”? How long has it been since American leaders observed those values on any but the most selective basis?

  • truebearing

But being incinerated in a ball of thermonuclear energy is living up to American values, according to the Left.

    • truebearing

Apparently Disqus missed a chance to censor my comment this time.

      • Tim N

No problem- we’ll just ignore it.
        (*grins* Sorry I couldn’t resist.)
Over at the Progressive I posted a comment on their article fawning over Che Guevara and it did show up- two weeks later!

        • Pete

Didn’t Che Guevara say something to the effect ‘it doesn’t matter how many people they killed or if they were innocent, because they could always grow more people’?

          • Tim N

Probably. I don’t recall it, but there are so many other so I had a few of his pithy quotes to toss at them.

          • Pete

I was just hoping you might know.

I like that one because it shows how callous and “smarter than thou” Che was.

  • Libslayer

Obama wants to “spread the terror around”.
He’s been torturing the American people for six long horrible years.
He plans to finish the job.

  • Biff Henderson

And to think that Holder doesn’t even get an honorable mention in the not living up to American values department.

  • Yehuda Levi

Obama and his administration does not live up to American values. In fact, they depise American values.

It has nothing to do with the rest of us. We’re good.

    • SCREW SOCIALISM

That’s why Obama went on his Apology Tour of the Middle East a few months after his inauguration.

      http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB124044156269345357

“President Barack Obama has finished the second leg of his international
confession tour. In less than 100 days, he has apologized on three
continents for what he views as the sins of America and his
      predecessors.”

Obama should tour the Infidel world to apologize for Islamofascism that kills people all over the world.

  • Shadowwind

It’s ironic because listening to liberals pontificate about “torture” and “human rights” is probably more painful than anything the prisoners at Gitmo received. Which UN agency do I file a complaint with to address this gross violation of civil liberties? My eardrums demand justice!

  • Larry Larkin

It’s a pity they didn’t stick to the Laws of War when it came the the dirtbags collected in Gitmo.
Either they were prisoners of war, in which case you keep them behind the wire for the duration and they don’t get to play with lawyers, or they were illegal combatants, in which case after you’ve squeezed them dry with interrogations you put them against the wall and shoot them.
Or you just shoot them on the spot when you catch them, which is also a valid specified punishment.

    • tagalog

I noticed that a lot of the “human rights” hoo-hah got very muted after Obama took office. Those Gitmo detainees have been locked up there for another six years since Obama took office, but where is the great outcry that we had when Bush was President?
Those people are still in Gitmo because they are effectively prisoners of war and belong there until the war ends. And they’re not entitled to due process unless they’re U.S. citizens.

When I was five yrs old I went to the dentist for a cavity on a molar.Using a syringe more like a harpoon with steel knuckle grips he proceeded to inject the roof of my mouth. All the anesthetic shot out my nose. When I protested that my tooth was not frozen he continued any way.I fought back against his drill. He then held me in place in the chair with a knee and continued drilling, mind you now his equipment was state of the art for the 1950′s.I was literaly tortured worse than waterboarding worse than having womens underwear thrown at me and worse torture than a light bulb left on twentyfour hrs a day. They were not made to witness there woman being raped their sons beheaded. There was no torture. These people were rounded up on battlefields. There are no men of fighting age accidentaly on battlefields. And you have an American administration going to bat for these people and smearing the good old USA.There-in is the only torture here.

    • tagalog

Did he ask you repeatedly, “Is it safe?”

    • Pete

Levels or graduations in torture or its’ close cousin or whatever you want to call it have to be made.

If humiliating someone with underwear is the same as waterboarding or putting them on the rack and stretching them, then language, logic and circumstance have no meaning.

If any discomfort or anxiety is torture, then police questioning a suspect for even 5 minutes is torture and is crime for which you should prosecute police. That is where liberal logic leads.

  • Bamaguje

Obama can’t eat his cake and have it. He disingenuously takes credit for the killing of Bin Laden. But the info that led to Bin Laden’s hideout was partly obtained by water-boarding captured terrorists.

  • Elizabeth capecod

They’re ideologues. They live in a world that they imagine – not the one that is.
This makes them unable to understand that this kind of talk makes our enemies hate us even more. I have to take blood-pressure medication because of these people.

    • Pete

Walk Aerobic exercise does the trick for me.

Of course you will have to find a safe place and that is getting problematic in America.

I am looking into nitric oxide pills. Jerry Doyle was advertising them. Not sure about it.

There was a good news story. The good people of Orland Park took back their public library.

      • Elizabeth capecod

Thanks, Pete. I’ll ask my doctor about the nitric oxide pills.
I do get a lot of exercise. My weight, diet and health is otherwise very good. I think I’m under a lot of stress, though.
        Darn that stress!

        • Pete

I am not sure about the nitric oxide. I almost fear that they have negligible affect, will be like steroids or something is wrong. I know Jerry Doyle is pushing them on his show and i respect him, but I have my questions about it.

They do use it for angina to prevent heart attacks. So there might be something there. Or it might be a supplement flying under the radar.

I hate using drugs because their effects seem to taper off and the side effects of course.

          So that was my caveat.

Here is a website that you might like and some articles you might find informative.

The website is good because the articles are short and the article is very savable without clutter.

Stiff artery walls may cause high blood pressure instead of being its consequence

The above is the important article IMO. It tracks with everything else I have been told about arteries.

            Interesting stuff…especially the MitoQ.

Th site is not perfect. They have run articles on global warming. But other than that it seems okay.

Stiffening of aortic wall linked with increased risk of high blood pressure

IMHO this is an important article. I really think they are closing in on understanding all of this, on treatments and what is possible.

Think in terms of a mcheranical engineer, but instead of working with steels and hydraulic fluid you are working with flesh and blood.

        Nitric oxide pills?
Nitric oxide is a gas… how does one make pill of a gas?
Jerry Doyle sounds like a snakes oil salesman.

        • Pete

Maybe I got it wrong. It is nitric something.

They use something like that already for engine and when a person thinks they are experiencing a heart attack.

This is equivalent to taking the same substance (it might be the same thing) like people were taking aspirin to prevent heart attacks.

          • Bamaguje

Thanks for the clarification. The pill is nitroglycerin, not NO.

  • Texas Patriot

Torturing Islamists is an extremely bad choice of tactics and plays directly into their overall strategy of discrediting America’s humanist ideals and exposing us as hypocrites. We do not need to resort to the methods of barbarians in order to win against barbarians. What we need to do is expel them from our ranks once and for all. They came to the West under the false pretenses that Islam is a religion of peace. Now that we know that it is a religion of conquest and submission, they need to be shown the door.

    • tagalog

It doesn’t matter much what we do as far as the Islamists are concerned: they’ll bad-mouth us anyway.

    • Pete

Islamicists bad mouth us for even holding a suspect in a cell for any period of time.

      • Texas Patriot

True enough, but if we fall into the trap of playing by their rules, we will always lose more than we gain.

        • Pete

          “Always” is tough to prove.

It is also an assertion to prove that we are playing by their rules when we interrogate people.

If so much as one woman is detained, they are outraged.

So if we play by their rules and detain no women, then they can let those women be couriers and do other things all day long.

I remember that we watched 2 school teachers working for Al Qaeda in Iraq. They were not rounded up. They were free to roam so we could see who they talked to.

          ***

You asserted 2 absolutes in you 1 sentence assertion without proof.

          • Texas Patriot

There are only two absolutes we need to be thinking about for purposes of winning the war against global Islamic jihadist: (1) when we find jihadists among us, we expel them into their own lands; (2) when they attack us from their lands, we start taking their land away from them bit by bit. In this way, the risk of domestic terrorism is reduced to zero, and the risk of external terrorism is diminished substantially. Either the attacks will eventually cease, or they will have no more land to attack from. Everything else is counter-productive to Western values and a waste of time, money, and men.

  • Liatris Spicata

Gee, I didn’t notice the evil W and those horrible Republicans “interning” tens of thousands of Americans based on their ancestry, unlike a certain Democrat hero who did exactly that when the homefront was under much less of a domestic threat.

Guess I must have missed the article about W’s concentration camps in the NYT (just as my grandfather missed the Gray Lady’s coverage of the horrendous politically motivated “famine” in Ukraine in the 1930′s- but he did read of the good life Ukrainians enjoyed).

This administration serves up the most self-serving sanctimonious bullshit in the history of this Republic.
