Obama Visits Colorado to Campaign for Dems Who Don’t Want to be Seen With Him

Barack Obama

It’s hard to campaign for someone when they don’t want to be seen with you. That’s what Obama found out in Colorado, the hard way.

Colorado Democrats running in competitive races were conspicuously absent Wednesday as President Obama visited Denver to campaign for incumbent Sen. Mark Udall, — who apparently considered a photo-op next to the president to be radioactive enough that he wasn’t even in the same state.

Udall stayed in Washington D.C. Wednesday, saying in a statement to reporters that he had work to do in the Capital. Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, who is in a dead heat with Republican challenger Bob Beauprez, also found reasons to stay far from Denver’s Cheesman Park, where Obama spoke to a small crowd of about 200 people.

bama arrived on Tuesday for a casual dinner with a small number of supporters at a downtown restaurant. Afterward, the president went off-schedule and walked around Denver’s LoDo district greeting people on the sidewalk and giving high-fives and fist-bumps.

He may have wanted to get his fill, because there was no one seeking re-election to fist-bump on the stage in the park. The most prominent Democrats who attended the speech were former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Rep. Ed Perlmutter.

So Obama just manufactured his own photo ops, including, with Hickenlooper, in what was clearly another manufactured photo op, and then headed to Texas, where the Dems weren’t too enthusiastic about him either.

Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar isn’t happy about President Barack Obama’s night out in Colorado.

The Texas congressman, whose district sits along the U.S.-Mexico border, said the president’s decision not to visit the border this week while he still found time to drink beer and play pool in Denver was “bizarre.”

“He’ll be 500 miles from Dallas and, in fact, he’ll be 242 miles from Austin, Texas, at the other fundraising he’ll be having,” Cuellar told Andrea Mitchell on MSNBCS, referring to Obama’s destinations during his two-day trip to Texas beginning Wednesday. “So, he’s so close to the border. And let me say this. When I saw — and I hate to use the word ‘bizarre,’ but under the circumstances — when he is shown playing pool in Colorado, drinking a beer, and he can’t even go 242 miles to the Texas border?”

It’s not bizarre. It’s self-serving.

Obama distances himself from problems, the way that Democrats distance themselves from him. They don’t want public stage photo ops with him. And he doesn’t want photo ops with his crisis.

“Well I hope that this doesn’t become President Obama’s Katrina moment,” Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) told Fox News.

Come again, Mr. Cuellar? Don’t you understand yet that Obama’s two terms in office are one big “Katrina moment”? He doesn’t want to get his feet wet wading through the flood waters of his policies.

The ‘Benghazi moment’ should have been bad enough.

Elect a person with zero experience and bad things happen. Now there is talk about Sen Elizabeth Warren being the DNC candidate with zero experience. What could go wrong?

It kinda reminds of the awkwardness when John Kerry endorsed then Candidate-Obama for President in ’08. How do you think that conversation went?

John Kerry: I have decided to endorse you for President.
    Senator Obama: Please don’t.

One big “photo op” which when it comes to visiting the border he said he doesn’t want….I think he’s afraid he might catch some disease.
How come when they show him shoot, they don’t show if he made the shot?
