Obama needed something to wipe away the humiliation of the last few weeks. He needed to pivot to something requiring zero real commitment, combining empty activism and a cool image.
The wheel of distractions was spun and up came Net Neutrality.
Let’s set aside the actual debate over net neutrality. Obama would love to exercise a little power grab over the internet, but he has zero interest in preventing his corporate cable pals from carving up internet access into tiers. Such an arrangement would benefit his media allies.
Obama spends more time golfing with the CEO of Comcast than he does helping Americans. And Comcast is not best friends with net neutrality.
Gullible progressives have seen the game played with Wall Street. Obama makes the right noises. Beats his scrawny chest a little. And then the whole thing gets cleared up under the table. And cable monopolies aren’t even Wall Street.
The progs think Obama is standing up to Wall Street. They don’t pay attention to the money changing hands, they applaud a few regs and business goes on as usual for the big boys. That’s net neutrality all over again.
Obama is being applauded for what amounts to telling a bunch of gullible idiots to go chase after the FCC. It’s a pathetic performance, but he’s already proven that progs are as easy to distract with shiny objects as beagles.
Then he can denounce Congress for opposing net neutrality and get back into his groove of accusing Congress of obstructing something that he doesn’t really care about except as a political distraction.
