After suggesting that Scotland was a “nation of drunks” and a poll that showed a third of Scotland would vote “No” on independence because of him, the Scottish National Party’s Alex Salmond put in a mosque appearance to denounce UKIP.
Alex Salmond has warned Muslim and Asian voters that, unless they back the Scottish National party, Ukip could take one of Scotland’s six European parliament seats in Thursday’s elections.
Speaking after a visit to Glasgow Central Mosque on Friday, the first minister said the Eurosceptic party could win a Scottish seat with only a small minority of votes, squeezing out the struggling Liberal Democrats.
The SNP’s third European candidate is a Muslim businesswoman, Tasmina Ahmed Sheikh, a former Tory council candidate. “Ukip are mentioned frequently in discussions on the doorstep,” she said. “It’s a matter of concern for the community and the first minister is right to be concerned about it.”
Tasmina Ahmed Sheikh has been through Labour and a Conservative so SNP is getting everyone else’s leftovers. As usual.
Sheikh is involved in promoting Islamic law in Scotland and has accused Scotland of a growing Islamophobia. She has claimed that Salmond’s independence bid will help keep Islamophobia from spilling over from England into Scotland.
Salmond and Sheikh are claiming that Scottish independence would protect Islam in Scotland. That’s what the SNP has warped Scottish nationalism into.
Mr Salmond heard how activists posing as military personnel entered the Central Mosque in Glasgow and handed out Bibles.
The First Minister said he was aware of the incident and a similar one in Cumbernauld. He said: “The mosque was effectively invaded as part of the election campaign. I can draw the concerns of the community to the attention of the Chief Constable.”
He said the incidents would be treated with “great seriousness”
Mr Salmond added: “Our diversity is our great strength and there is no better example of that than the Scots Asian community which has thrived in Scotland and helped to shape our country for the better.”
If Scotland’s strength is diversity… then what is Scotland? A piece of land and not much else.
Meanwhile the phony figures that Putin-admirer Salmond was claiming would make independence feasible are collapsing.
“Official figures show that proceeds to the Treasury from Scotland’s share of North Sea fields fell 37 per cent, from almost £7billion in 2012 to £4.4billion last year. The drop saw total public sector income north of the Border shrivel for a second consecutive year.”
“These latest figures show that they are miles and miles away. The SNP must say how they expect to fill an ever-expanding hole in an independent Scotland’s future spending plans.”
Salmond was promising 100 percent electrical energy generation by alternative energy. That isn’t working out too well either… though it is costing plenty.
