Smartest President Ever Misspells ‘Respect’ While Honoring Aretha Franklin

If Bush or Romney had done this, it would be a laughable gaffe, but since the Smartest Man Alive who has visited all 57 states and speaks fluent Austrian did it, it was probably the mountain air, lack of sleep or the classic, “Shut up, you’re a racist for noticing.”

Obama misspelled “respect” while lauding the “Queen of Soul” before a White House concert featuring several musical legends.

“When Aretha first told us what R-S-P-E-C-T meant to her,” Obama said, before the audience in the East Room erupted into laughter.

In Franklin’s 1967 classic “Respect,” of course, the singer famously spells out the word to a catchy tune, singing, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T/ Find out what it means to me/ R-E-S-P-E-C-T/ Take care, TCB.”

To be fair to Obama, he can’t be expected to know what “respect” means to anyone else. At least unless that someone is the King of Saudi Arabia or Vladimir Putin.

            Korea was different from Vietnam, though both were conflicts with commies. Iraq and Afghanistan were fundamentally different from each other, as well as being unlike Vietnam or Korea. The primary similarity is that we opposed totalitarian ideologies because they needed to be stopped. Our generals wanted to win the wars, but our presidents, like Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, and Obama, didn’t. At least Bush won his, though it was all for naught since Obama handed Iraq over to Iran and Al Queda as soon as he got elected by the fools of America.

            I attended a prayer breakfast meeting with former Secretary James Baker in the spring of 2009 just after Obama was elected. He had nothing but praise for Obama’s campaign and told Obama as much when Obama reached out to him after the election. His only criticism was that Obama had failed to instruct Congress on how the TARP money should be spent, and i agree with that.

            But even Secretary Baker questioned the wisdom of imagining that we could possibly create a Jeffersonian democracy between the Tigris and the Euphrates. Obviously democracy never had a chance in Iraq, and we should never have tried to build one. Our fight in Iraq was “won” when we destroyed Saddam’s armies in two weeks. At that point, we needed to get out of Iraq and turn our attention towards Iran. We didn’t do that, and now Iraq is well on the way to becoming an Iranian surrogate in the region,

            The bottom line is that our strategy in Iraq was even worse than our strategy in Vietnam, and the continuing ramifications of that debacle are still unfolding before our eyes. It was the worst case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the the entire history of the United States of America, and guys like you are still calling it a win.

            I posted an answer to this question once, but the system responded that it was “awaiting moderation”. That was more than a day ago, so let me try again.

            First, Obama has stated unequivocally that Iran should not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons. This has been followed by numerous statements by high level officials in his administration, including Vice President Joe Biden, that Obama is “not bluffing”.

            Second, Obama appointed Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense, and it is well-known that Hagel is a veteran of the folly of Vietnam and has no intention of involving the United States in another land war when he knows full well that a surgical strike to remove the Iranian nuclear weapons complex would be more than adequate to defang the Islamic Revolutionary Party of Iran.

            Third, and finally, Obama has just tossed Putin a nice juicy bone by not opposing Russia’s annexation of the Ukraine. Thus, if and when the United States finds it necessary or appropriate to destroy the Iranian nuclear weapons complex by any means necessary (including the possible use of tactical nuclear warheads to reach the deeply buried facilities) we can expect the Russians to trot out the usual diplomats to complain vociferously to the world media (just as we have trotted out John Kerry to complain about Russian actions in the Ukraine), but the truth is that the Russians will stand by and do nothing except to sign up to rebuild the Iranian nuclear weapons facilities that we have destroyed.

            But I don’t expect you to understand any of this, and we should all hope that the Iranian mullahs don’t get it either.

The fact that he’s getting out at all to honor great artists like Aretha Franklin under these circumstances is somewhat amazing to me.

        My over all take is that you guys at Frontpage are over the top in your criticism and need to throttle back a bit. Obama will defang the mullahs of Iran, and that’s all you really need to worry about. The rest is up to you and Glick and lots more guys like you in Israel.

          Just as FDR played fast and loose with Uncle Joe and the communist fellow travelers and useful idiots in WWII, Obama is playing fast and loose with the Muslim Brotherhood, John McCain, and Lindsay Graham. Some would say that it is better to have your enemies close to you so you can know what they’re thinking, and perhaps that is what Obama is doing. Who knows?

          The crucible moment for Obama, America and the West will be when Iran offers what they say is their walk away deal on inspections of the suspected nuclear weapons facilities. The Iranians will of course insist that their intentions are peaceful and will act highly offended that Obama wants proof, and there will no doubt be limits to the inspections that the Iranians will permit. The Iranians will seem nice and they will always be smiling and nodding, and millions of Muslims will sympathize with them. That’s when Obama will have to decide whether to act to take out the suspected nuclear weapons facilities root and branch or to permit them to continue with their nuclear programs in virtual secrecy.

          Fortunately, I have no doubt that Chuck Hagel & Co. at the Pentagon are preparing precisely the kind of package to destroy the Iranian complex in its entirety in the event Obama chooses to go forward with that option. It is at that moment that Obama’s place in history will be fixed. Will he be regarded as the Neville Chamberlain who naively aided the Islamic Revolutionary Party of Iran in destroying Western Civilization? Or will he be regarded as a George Washington, an Abraham Lincoln, or a John Kennedy who was willing to put everything on the line for freedom? At this point it is too soon to tell and much too soon for jokes of any kind.
