The Angry Left

101511_9931The American left has never had it this good with two terms of an uncompromising leftist in the White House dedicated to its agenda, making and unmaking laws at a whim, siccing the IRS and federal prosecutors on his political enemies and transforming the country at a breathtaking pace.

Obama is what generations of the left have worked toward. This is the flicker of hope they kept alive throughout the Nixon years, Carter’s collapse and the long stretch of Reaganomics. This is what Bill Clinton robbed them of by gauging his actions against the polls instead of blasting full steam ahead regardless of what the public wanted.

So why is the left so angry?

Watch MSNBC or browse any left-wing site and you see a level of anger that would make you think that Al Gore had just conceded or Nixon had just won reelection. There’s more anger in the privileged circles of the left than in the political rearguard of the Tea Party.

That anger trickles from the top down. Obama’s interview with Bill O’Reilly was yet another opportunity for the most powerful man in the country to blame a vast right-wing conspiracy. A day doesn’t pass without another email from Obama, his wife, Sandra Fluke or Joe Biden warning that without another five or ten dollar contribution, the “right” will take over America.

The left has unchallenged control over the government, academia and the entertainment industry and yet it talks as if the country is 5 seconds away from Sarah Palin marching into Washington, D.C. at the head of an army of Duck Dynasty fans to outlaw abortion.

The apocalyptic political paranoia and the uncontrolled outbursts of rage haven’t changed much since 2003. Ten years later, the ideologues in power still act as if George W. Bush is serving out his fourth term. Every day on MSNBC, a stew of conspiracy theories about oil companies, Israel, the Koch Brothers, Wal-Mart and Karl Rove leaves a slimy trail across the television screen.

On the Internet, manufactured outrage has become the only progressive stock in trade. Did Jerry Seinfeld say that he values humor over racial quotas? He’s a racist. Did an ESPN magazine out a compulsive liar who also happened to be pretending to be a woman? Lock him up. Did Mike Huckabee say something that could be misinterpreted with enough ellipses and out of context “Twitterized” quotes? Before you know it, he’s a sexist pig.

It says something deeply disturbing about a progressive readership that eats up hate and doesn’t react to anything positive. The rash of fake hate crimes feeds into that same perverse need for an enemy to hate and fight. The left used to pretend that it wanted to do something positive, but now that it has the power, it can’t stop searching for someone to hate instead.

The left is more comfortable being angry than being anything else; it finds it easier to rally the troops against something than for something so that even its triumphs only lead to more anger. The MSNBC tweet about an interracial Cheerios commercial was revealing of a deeper problem within the left. It was assumed that the MSNBC audience wouldn’t care about an interracial ad unless it could somehow pretend to “spite” the right by watching it.

Obama’s awkward stumble from cause to cause, letting the old Bush policies run on Autoplay unless a crusade kicks in, as it eventually did on gay marriage and illegal immigration, is indicative of the problem with the left’s governing style. It cares less about gay marriage or legalizing illegal aliens than it does about stirring up conflict.

That is another reason why the left began neglecting some of its bread and butter issues after Obama won. Aside from the need to protect its own man, it wasn’t really all that interested in closing Gitmo, gay marriage or opposing the War in Iraq. The things it wants to do are never as important to it as its obsessive need to feel that it is fighting against the right.

For all the Obama Worship, the left is more united by hatred for Sarah Palin or Ted Cruz than by its support for its own leaders. It derives its identity more from the things that it is against — the middle class, the country, the businessman, the white male — than from the things that it is for.

The left’s sense of self is strongest when it is attacking, not when it is inspiring, when it is destroying, not when it is building.

Deprived of an external enemy, its ideologues carve out narrow orthodoxies and denounce each other for violating them. When the right and the center have been purged, the purges of the left begin and don’t end until there is nothing left except one tyrant-guru and his terrified minions.

The small scale bloodsport documented in the outward reaches of feminism by The Nation in its article “Feminism’s Toxic Twitter Wars” as transgender rights activists denounce Eve Ensler for excluding them by using the word “Vagina” and black feminists denounce white feminists for ignoring their concerns is typical.

When all enemies to the right have been eliminated, the left doesn’t find peace. Its ideology is a weapon, its gurus are egomaniacs and its followers joined to fight. When it wins in an arena, whether it’s academia or entertainment, the winners begins warring against each other proving that even in an ideological vacuum its ideology remains a destructive force whose followers would rather denounce and destroy, than educate and enlighten.

As a victorious parasite writes its own obituary, a successful left is a threat to its own existence and the only thing saving the left from a violent disintegration is the right.

Hating the right is the only thing that keeps the left together. When it doesn’t have Nixon to kick around anymore, it dissolves into a wet puddle of goo. If it didn’t have Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Mitt Romney and every other figure who took his turn starring in their grim theater of the Two Minutes Hate, it would revert back to the petty infighting of a thousand minor eccentric causes.

The left needs to believe in a vast right-wing conspiracy. It needs the Koch Brothers, Karl Rove, Evangelical Christians, AIPAC, oil companies, defense contractors and every other element of its conspiracy theories to keep its followers focused on the “real” threat instead of purging each other for tone policing, insufficient privilege checking and any other outrage of the week.

Like the Salafists shooting and shelling each other in Syria, the ranks of the left are filled with dogmatic and intolerant fanatics whose only goal in life is the absolute victory of their point of view. Their mutual fanaticism and aggrieved sense of victimhood gives them more in common with each other and that very commonality is the source of their mutual hatred. Only they can understand each other well enough to truly want to kill each other.

It isn’t hope that animates the left’s leaders and thinkers, but the darker side of human nature. That dark side is why the left’s victories end in tragedies, why the red flags are painted with blood and why when its followers have run out of enemies to kill, they turn on each other and destroy their own movements with firing squads, gulags and guillotines.

Hate is the force that gives the left meaning.

The left is always angry – and willing to align itself with people who are even angrier than they are.

Hence the Red/Green Axis of EVIL.

      Don’t forget the nazis! It’s a Red/Green/Brown Axis.

jeez Amal, are you one of those weirdo Californian Rainbow People that run about the Himalayan mountains…. stoned?

Of course no indoctrinated liberal will, admit as much.

        • SCREW SOCIALISM

          nazis called themselves National SOCIALISTS.

        • Habbgun

They definitely weren’t Marxists. National Socialism was socialism for sure but did not subscribe to Marx’s philosophy. They had their own philosophical roots such as La Salle.

          • A Z

I had not heard of him.

“Ferdinand Johann Gottlieb Lassalle (11 April 1825 – 31 August 1864) was a German jurist, philosopher, and socialist political activist. Lassalle is best remembered as an initiator of international-style socialism in Germany.”

          • Habbgun

Should we tell uptownsteve about the letter from Marx in that Wikipedia entry? The one where Marx uses the N word to describe Lassalle? The letter where Marx uses the N word to say it explains Lassalle’s personality which Marx didn’t like?

I think we should and then bet on which floor uptownsteve jumps from when he learns the truth about the man in the picture over his bed.

          • A Z

            Go ahead.

He is trolling hard. He deserves to get hit by the truth with the proverbial 2 x 4.

          • BagLady

Oh yes “the N word” that only brothers are allowed to use without being labelled. Friends of brothers sometimes get away with it, however, so long as they can prove their brother credentials.

          • Habbgun

What the bleep bleep bleep are you talking about? You do realize we are talking about Karl Marx. You know Karl Marx the German who hated everyone but his imaginary proletariat?

  • DaCoachK

I wonder how angry they will be when this peace craze ends, and the violence that they have fomented begins. They are really tough and brazen, as long as you don’t hit back. America is headed for a dark place, a needed transition due to the Left.

    • kikorikid

Just started “Bullies” by Ben Shapiro. Very insightful.
Still, and always, the remedy for Bullying, the Bully, is
a very unexpected and powerfull shot to the chops or
solar plexis. Bullies are not there to overcome resistance,
they are there to intimidate and operate with the arrogaqnce
of power. Hubris. Theres risk but the opportunity to
facilitate the “Fall” of a Bully is always worth it. They always
      desist when resisted.

    • Drakken

The left will rue the day we quit taking it on the chin and come out swinging, we are headed for those days.

    • glpage

As I have been saying for a while, the left is going to get the social unrest they seem to want and when it happens I doubt they are going to like the outcome. Things are going to get very ugly and messy and the leftists are going to wonder what hit them.

  • The Facts

It’s highly amusing that Mr. Greenfield, at the end of his article, rattled off a list of his financial and intellectual benefactors, called them imaginary and then lambasted “the left” for behaving like Jewish nationalists.

    • mattogilvie55

      No he didn’t, liar.

      • The Facts

You must have missed paragraph twenty.

        • mattogilvie55

You claimed he accused leftwingers of behaving like a certain group of people (whom you obviously do not think much of), and he simply did no such thing.

    • lyndaaquarius

can you prove the direct link between Daniel Greenfield and “defense contractors”?How is Karl Rove his “intellectual benefactor”? Gotta supply detailed specifics to substantiate your claims. Intellectual integrity demands it.

      • The Facts

Intellectual integrity will have to buy the book then. Meantime, just read Think-Israel.org. “Direct link” is interesting terminology, when what you have here is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit doing paid political activism for various interconnected pseudo-intelligence agencies and arranging junkets in Palm Beach. The payers are Chernick, Scaife, and Bradley. The “intelligence” is Pipes and Gaffney. The legal is Yerushalmi.

        • Daniel Greenfield

I heard Richard Mellon Scaife is really one of those Secret Jews.

          • The Facts

That’s like having secret muscular dystrophy.

            Odd.

Liberal racism, like what? You don’t see any racism on FPM? REALLY?

          • Drakken

Imagine that? You shouted racist again, who could have possibly predicted that? Amazing!

          • SCREW SOCIALISM

Oh, by the way, you are not a real liberal. We are the real liberals. Real liberals follow the ideas of John Locke and Adam Smith, not radical left-wingers like Jimmy Carter and Al Sharpton. And definitely not liberation theologists like Jeremiah Wright nor hypocritical lunatics like Ward Churchill.

          • tagalog

Did you read the internet account by the Tea Party leader who adopted an Ethiopian child? He got absolutely NO feedback from anyone about adopting a black child into a white family. His conclusion: the United States has made astonishing (he says “incredible,” but I respectfully think it’s perfectly credible given the American character) progress in race relations. I would amend that to say that white America has made great progress in race relations. I don’t know what progress black Americans have made.

        • Drakken

You still haven’t put your money where your big mouth is and joined your fellow muslims in your epic fight against the Jews? I guess cowardice does run in the leftist veins.

        • lyndaaquarius

what about that connection you cited between Daniel Greenfield and those defense contractors as well as Karl Rove? You have to respond to that.

    • Omar

Shut the f**k up, you Muslim nationalist. Quit trolling.

    • A Z

Mr Greenfield must be effective. You are here trying to dispute and downplay his articles.

Rush Limbaugh always says “The Left will tell us who they fear by who they attack.”

Whether you are a Muslim or a leftist you showed us who you fear.

You also showed us what you fear, the truth.

      LMAO!

      • The Facts

And on alternating days, Mr. Greenfield can claim “rightwingnuthouse” is effective.

        • Drakken

Coming from a leftard like you, that is hilarious. Keep them coming shortbus.

    • JamesJ

You keep proving the author’s point.

  • cxt

    Excellent article!
The Left is always angry and always has been—no matter what the situation they MUST turn their angry outward onto some “enemy.”
And as usual the Left learns nothing—even from its own history. The first thing Leftists do, once they come to power, is start slaughtering their fellows…..either literally or figuratively–and sadly its generally literally.

  • lyndaaquarius

do you think that more Americans are getting a strong sense of this negativity and do you think they understand that the Democrat Party is now the Left?

    • Daniel Greenfield

I don’t think they’ve made the connection. It will take another decade for the Dems to really embody the left.

  • cheechakos

You can hear and feel it in every interview and article the left produces.

If there is nothing to be outraged about, they make it up.
Turning on any MSM news program is like stepping into a room full of bi-polar hormonal teenagers. The endless litany of imagined injustices ,offenses, social ills and victimhood are exhausting to watch and hear.
Then they compete to see who can produce more shock value, rage and blame.
That’s why they embrace muslims despite islam’s hatred for the ideology of the left. They are united in misery, rage and discontent.

    • tagalog

My biggest beefs are the manufactured statistics.

  • http://libertyandculture.blogspot.com/ Jason P

Yes, when communism failed the left lost its dream of a workers’ paradise. Horowitz was right that even after allegedly abandoning the Soviet Union, it secretly hoped for “reform” and continued to look to China, Cuba and Vietnam. But the Berlin War fell and China added a whopping dose of capitalism.

The left had nothing left but its hatred of the liberal (i.e. bourgeois) order. It shares that hatred with the Islamic world that despite its social conservativeness they find a common bond.

My only qualm, Daniel, is that “hate” is too moderate a word for this phenomena. After all hate is only a feeling. What you describe is much deeper. Having nothing left to fight for, the left wants to destroy. This is nihilism. What Ayn Rand calls “hatred of the good for being good.”

    • BagLady

I see you are plagued with extremist thoughts: Left = extremism = nihilism. Daft argument, if you don’t mind me saying so. I could equally argue that Right = extremist = nihilism.

      • Flashbang

      • truebearing

You can make any argument you want, but that doesn’t mean it will make any sense. Your attempt at a moral equivalency is spectacularly lame.

      • Habbgun

Not daft at all. Austrian school of economics went into why the Left is the way it is in depth. Just for starters, socialism is about one group getting consistently appropriated from (this is not taxation as taxation is for collective benefit). The other group gets security from the first group. Since this is a permanent condition it is essentially theft. It is not aid, it is not investment it is enforced social conditions. Because one group needs the acquiescence of another group it must enforce it. It does so with threats and anger. Of course getting the money doesn’t help because the economy doesn’t grow, so of course the process must be repeated and the receiving group does not feel any more secure (they are still dependent and not independent) and since human nature wants more there must be greater hate in service of greater economic gain.

Then another group wants from previous group a and group b so they have to have grievances. The Austrian school said it best. There is no socialism but only socialisms. Each “philosophy” pretending to have a different philosophical viewpoint but in reality only saying I should get and you should pay. The Left can’t build, it can only hate. Sorry baggy its just the way it is.

        • kikorikid

I would offer that the rapid birth and demise
of “Critical Theory” is ,at least, anecdotal
          proof/support of your thesis

Critical Theory is still around. Look at all the media articles slyly demonizing the Western way of life.

“God says I am, the Devil says I am not” – Bishop Fulton Sheen.

      • truebearing

With all due respect to the bishop, the devil, as the destroyer, says You are not. Lucifer was way too narcissistic to destroy himself. Destroying God’s most cherished creation, mankind, is another story. Convincing us to join nihilistic cults is a clever but evil way to get us to destroy ourselves, no?

  • tommo2

It’s frightening how two terms of a president can change the country so much. There is a need for greater accountabiity and restrictions on what a president can do. His executive privilege must be curtailed. This should include legal intervention and fines if a president deviates from the constitution like Obama has done. What is to stop him from going for a third term and ending elections altogether?

    • glpage

The problem is not just Obama and the left. The Republican establishment has gotten into such go-along-to-get-along mode they won’t challenge him even when he is breaking the law and/or violating the Constitution.

  • Rich Kozlovich

    Great Article!

  • onecornpone

Their mutual fanaticism and their aggrieved sense of victimhood gives them more in common with each other and that very commonality is the source of their mutual hatred.

And these characteristics lead them to adopt irrational causes like environmentalism. When they run out of individuals to fear and hate, they can transfer their hatred to all of mankind.

Most distressing is that I see some who claim to be conservative hitching onto the frayed edges of environmentalism occasionally. You can’t beat the Left when you fall into the trap of using their well-branded arguments…

    • tagalog

Well, it will be a commonality until all the enemies of the Left are eliminated, then the distinctions between the commonalities will emerge and the great purges will begin. I cite the Great Terror in the USSR, 1937-1938, the Great Leap Forward, 1959-1963 and the Cultural Revolution, 1968-1969, in the PRC, together with the Cambodian slaughter for agrarian reform in the 1970s, as historical precedents.

That purge should have spelled the end of Communism, but World War II intervened and changed things forever, and the Stalinists were saved.

  • DogmaelJones1

“The left’s sense of self is strongest when it is attacking, not when it is inspiring, when it is destroying, not when it is building.” This is why the Left finds Islam copasetic. It’s no coincidence that the Left regards Islam as an ideological ally – an ally committed to destruction for its own sake – while Islam’s proponents and propagandists regard the Left as a useful idiot that can help it further its ends of total submission. This is also why the Nazis and the Communists, when they triumphed in Germany and in countries that went Red, couldn’t stop finding enemies to identify and campaign against. Tyrants and tyrannies need enemies, they need nemeses. Otherwise, they have no identity of their own. They need to keep the populace scared and obedient, and what better way to do that than to invent terrible bogeymen. In real life, Orwell’s “Two Minute Hate” must be a sustained, years-long hate founded on a never-ending succession of crises.

  • T-Rex

We have just been treated to another dose of the left’s “fundamental change” for America. Along with all the other conservative ills that plague America, we now learn the ACA will cast asunder the outdated and greed-plagued concept of working for a living. Through the mandate of government approved health insurance millions will be “free” to engage in the “pursuit of happiness” whether this pursuit will feed, clothe and house you, or not. This parasitic endeavor can only come about by convincing the parasites that the host will eat them first if they do not attack. In fact, this call to arms has been heard since Marx first put pen to paper. Since then Cloward/Piven mapped out the strategy and Alinsky wrote the rulebook. The left uses hatred as its motivation to destroy the very society that allows it to survive. Instead of hatred, I think the proper term would be “blind rage”.

  • http://www.clarespark.com/ Clare Spark

Was Joe McCarthy exaggerating or was he on target? Maybe the moderate academics are wrong. See http://clarespark.com/2014/02/05/joe-mccarthy-and-the-warrior-spirit/, “Joe McCarthy and the Warrior Spirit.” Greenfield and David Horowitz are certainly not lacking in that department.

  • Joe_NS

One of the perplexing things about younger leftists is their seeming unawareness of the origins of 99% of the anti–right wing platitudes they never tire of repeating, which is that they were originally routine anti-American slogans of international Communism and with scarcely a change in wording. The charge that Republicans are—you pick—racist, sexist, greedy, brutal exploiters who deserve extermination, and so on, was originally America is racist, sexist, greedy, brutally exploitative and deserves defeat.

The slogans of the left were disseminated into a wider audience after first having been brought into the academy and especially the schools of education (e.g., Bill Ayres). If you came to political maturity in the 30s or, as I did, in the 60s, all of it is so tiresomely unoriginal, yet the majority of left-wing goons, thugs, and screaming maniacs are completely unaware of the history of the rhetoric they spout.

    • Drakken

And by vacillating their communism manifesto, it always ends up with a stack of dead bodies.

      • quousque

        Typically it a big stack.

  • emptorpreempted

There’s plenty of hate among the rank-and-file of the Right, as can be seen in the widespread obsessive rants about “communists” and “progressives” (a dirty word to those who know no history), the thinly-veiled malevolence toward blacks and sometimes women (not as common as leftist propaganda makes it out to be, but it’s there), the open hatred of atheists.

The farther you go to the right, the more you find that the professed opinions are motivated by hate.

The contrary impression, that it is the Left that is predominantly hate-filled, is due to the fact that, for historical reasons, a larger segment of the rank-and-file Right is obscured from view: it is excluded to a greater extent from mainstream politics.

The truth is that ideological hatred is now a ubiquitous feature of American society.

    • kikorikid

It is the Left that has been carrying out schemes of oppression
against segments of our society. White-males, white female conservatives,
The list is long and those on it have every reason to hate
what has been done to them and by whom. In the Left-mind
they are not carrying out persecution, they are carrying out
“Just Punishment” for transgressions against the Party Line..

      • Habbgun

Exactly. If you’re in America and you are Jewish you are hearing every day language in America which at one time everyone agreed was why they left Europe. Find a group to blame, pile on and then take blood money from the group you blamed and some other group that was dumb enough to think you were only going to steal from the first group.

The alliance between Leftist ideologues and incredibly corrupt urban political machines is making life worse by the day. We talk about the leftist/jihadist connection but in practical terms a lying college professor finding common cause with a thieving political hack will cause much more immediate damage to living standards while paving the way for jihadist success.

        • uptownsteve

Why are most Jews liberal Democrats? Name an elected Jewish Republican besides Cantor.

          • Habbgun

Interesting that this is what you choose to reply to. How many posts showing how wrong your reasoning is regarding soclialism and you selectively choose this one.

The Jews in Congress are old farts that came out through the old Democratic Machine politics and they are needn’t anymore and their time is done. Over. Kaput. I don’t like Joe Lieberman but the Democrats liked him less and pushed him out of the party. Find me a young Jewish Democrat who isn’t rabidly anti-Israel, hates the Jewish religion, hates religious Christians and apologizes for Islam. Pajama Boy types only prove my point not yours. Now why don’t you read Road to Serfdom?

          • uptownsteve

Why won’t you answer my question? Because the truth is too stark for you to deny. The vast majorities of Jews vote for the Democratic Party
because the Democratic Party’s multiculturalist and inclusive philosophy
is the antidote to the very forces of racism and anti-Semitism that led
            to the Holocaust.

          • Daniel Greenfield

You mean inclusive and multiculturalist like FDR?

            http://articles.latimes.com/2013/apr/07/opinion/la-oe-medoff-roosevelt-holocaust-20130407

“Why did the administration actively seek to discourage and disqualify Jewish refugees from coming to the United States? Why didn’t the president quietly tell his State Department (which administered the immigration system) to fill the quotas for Germany and Axis-occupied countries to the legal limit? That alone could have saved 190,000 lives. “

And who were the conservatives who opposed FDR’s policy regarding Jewish refugees? We are not talking about 70 years ago but TODAY.

          • Daniel Greenfield

FDR’s policy was not to take in Jewish refugees or to take in as few as possible.

          • uptownsteve

And who were the conservatives who complained about that? in 1940 Racism and anti-semitism was mainstream. Shall I post some of Richard Nixon’s anti-semitic comments? Don’t want to talk about THAT, huh?

You know that Mrtin Luther King was a Republican, do you? Probably not.

          • uptownsteve

MLK was NOT a Republican. ”

The Republican Party geared its appeal and
program to racism, reaction, and extremism. All people of goodwill
viewed with alarm and concern the frenzied wedding at the Cow Palace of
the KKK with the radical right. The “best man” at this
ceremony was a senator whose voting record, philosophy, and program were
anathema to all the hard-won achievements of the past decade.

Senator Goldwater had neither the concern nor the comprehension
necessary to grapple with this problem of poverty in the fashion that
the historical moment dictated. On the urgent issue of civil rights,
Senator Goldwater represented a philosophy that was morally indefensible
and socially suicidal. While not himself a racist, Mr. Goldwater
articulated a philosophy which gave aid and comfort to the racist. His
candidacy and philosophy would serve as an umbrella under which
extremists of all stripes would stand. In the light of these facts and
because of my love for America, I had no alternative but to urge
every Negro and white person of goodwill to vote against Mr. Goldwater
and to withdraw support from any Republican candidate that did not
publicly disassociate himself from Senator Goldwater and his philosophy.” MLK Jr.

Maybe because Hitler did not want his National Socialism conflated with Marxist Socialism.

Lesson over. Now get a life.

That said, Nazism was closer to crony capitalism with Party members on top of the heap while the USSR dispensed with the appearances and just directly ran everything through the Party.

          • uptownsteve

The Nazis were executing socialists and communist even before they started going after the Jews. J. And this historical revision will only appeal to rightwing fools.

          • Habbgun

Read Road to Serfdom!!!! The argument is in-depth, indisputable and written at the time of the Nazis rise. They were socialists. Germany was the most socialist country in Europe. WW I was seen by many as the socialists versus the anglo-capitalist British and Americans and many preferred that Germany would have won.

          • Daniel Greenfield

The Communists were executing Socialists too. The USSR referred to them as Soc-traitors.

Read Orwell on the Spanish Civil War.

The Nazis weren’t free market capitalists either. They nationalized the economy and the health care system. The party flag used the color red which symbolized “workers”. • Habbgun

Oh Uptown. There are many types of socialists and they don’t agree on much except somebody has to get appropriated from to go to somebody else. Read Road to Serfdom. Communists represented one group and the Nazis represented the German middle class that was falling into poverty. The Nazis were often made up of college grads, etc pissed off that life was falling apart. They therefore identified the communists as an enemy but their solution was still a socialist economy. They also disagreed in dogma. Communists followed Marx and believed socialism could only work if applied internationally. Nazis followed the philosophy of national socialism which said an individual state could have socialism if only the right people were in charge of the state. They weren’t compatible so one group had to go.

          • reader

Steevo, have you heard that Lenin banned socialist parties in Russia in 1918? For a socialist, you know precious little about your movement’s history. Then again, that’s why you ARE a socialist.

Why did Commie Soviets hate the Commie Chinese?

          • tagalog

It started with the conflict between the Red Chinese identification with the peasant “class,” a group that in Russia was perceived as deeply conservative and pro-Tsarist, then deepened as the Soviets saw themselves as the worldwide spokesmen for Communism, while the Red Chinese, who had fought a bloody civil war and conducted a shooting war in Korea over Communism, saw the Soviets as pretty presumptuous. There was also an undertone of Soviet racism and paternalism involved, something that grated on the Chinese.

          • Omar

That’s because the Communists weren’t the “right” type of socialists the Nazis were seeking. Remember that the Nazis viewed themselves as nationalists while the Communists viewed themselves as internationalists.

          • uptownsteve

National Socialism was no more “Socialist” than the Democratic
Republic of (North) Korea is a “democratic republic.” The Nazis called
themselves “socialists” because it attracted more working-class support
than calling themselves the “We’ll Stomp anyone who Gets in Our Way
Party,” but they hated real socialists and supported none of the
economic redistribution that is the core of authentic socialism.

        • Habbgun

Pretty funny you should ask. Read Road to Serfdom and you will get an in-depth look at how Nazis were socialist, how their socialist views were a vicious but logical extension of German socialism and how both the Nazis and Communists had common roots (not surprising since both National Socialism and Communism sprang from German culture). In fact Hayek spent far more time documenting Nazism than he would have liked. He would have liked to have done more to educate the world about Stalin but at the time Hitler was the more dangerous enemy. Stalin had to settle for domestic genocide.

Ayn Rand once said that the psychology of the left boils down to a child who wants to blow up the kitchen because he can’t have his cookie and eat it too.

  • kasandra

Excellent article. I’m sure everyone has their stories but if I may, I once read an article on the Huffington Post about a lawsuit in which a black person was claiming that Bank of America “ghettoized” its black bank officers into minority communities and did not assign them to branches in affluent, largely white, communities. As it happens, I live in a fairly affluent, largely white area and bank at a local Bank of America branch. I posted a comment in which I said that and added that I had frequently been assisted by black BoA officers assigned to that branch. I was immediately deluged by e-mailed comments calling me a racist and saying that I didn’t know what I was talking about even though I simply related my own personal experience. The left is largely angry, brooks no dissent, and, frankly, has so fully deconstructed objective reality that it usually is useless to discuss or debate any issue with them.

  • Infidel4Ever

I know plenty of leftists and this article nails it. Even with all their success in the political arena they still hunger for something new to hate. Thankfully they don’t want to talk politics with me because all I do is point at them and laugh.

  • Omar

The left is power hungry. Keep in mind that the left has been using dirty propaganda in almost every part of the United States. In Puerto Rico, statehood opponents, who are primarily on the left, have used similar tactics mentioned above to try and discredit the statehood movement, which is predominantly conservative. The most common argument that statehood opponents like the Popular Democratic Party (PDP), which supports Puerto Rico’s current status as a US territory; the Puerto Rico Independence Party (PIP), which supports turning Puerto Rico into a Communist totalitarian country; and the Sovereign Union Movement (MUS), which supports Puerto Rico becoming a sovereign country but in free association with the United States, often use against statehood for Puerto Rico is that if the island territory becomes a US state, it would lose its unique and vibrant culture. Statehood opponents often demonize members of the New Progressive Party (NPP), which is the political party that supports Puerto Rico becoming a state, and the whole statehood movement as “vendepatrias” (meaning “sell-outs”) and “race-traitors”. Statehood opponents also spread other lies about statehood, claiming that statehood would destroy Puerto Rico’s economy. In addition, statehood opponents also spread false propaganda about the United States (statehood opponents, like much of the left in the American mainland, view the contemporary United States as a racist, sexist and bigoted society) All of the propaganda that statehood opponents post are lies. Statehood opponents in Puerto Rico often use scare tactics in order to convince island residents to oppose having the same rights to vote for our national leaders as we do in the states, which is what statehood guarantees. In addition, members of the Popular Democratic Party, which favors Puerto Rico’s current territory status, have been lobbying some Republican Party lawmakers in Congress and conservative political pundits into opposing statehood for Puerto Rico based on the false claim that the territory is a “Democratic Party” jurisdiction. This is despite the fact that 1. Historically, it was the Republican Party in Puerto Rico that supports statehood for Puerto Rico and 2. There are no Republicans in the Popular Democratic Party, while the New Progressive Party (which was established by a Republican politician, Luis Ferre) has both Republicans and Democrats. In fact, at least three-quarters of the NPP’s membership consists of Republicans. Just like it is time for American conservatives nationwide to rise up and defeat the left and its extremist agenda, it is time for statehooders in Puerto Rico to rise up and defeat all of its opponents. We also need to fully unite the conservative movement in the mainland and the statehood movement in PR to fight back against their opponents.

Brilliant analysis, Daniel! This is the truth unveiled

Hate is the currency of the Left. It is embedded in everything they do or say. They project their own hate onto conservatives, always believing that if they hate, everyone hates. Their own contempt for blacks convinces them that all whites must also hate blacks. Hate is the motivator in all of their objectives, especially their rapacity for power. Power lets them use their hate arbitrarily and indiscriminately, and acting out their hate is their dark obsession. Simply hating is not enough to satiate their need to sacrifice life on their alter of hate. The Left is wholly invested in an inexorable downward spiral of nihilism for the sake of nihilism. Just like Islam, it is an anti-humanity cult of death.

If in the end, Marxism or Islam prevail, the killing will continue until there are two men left, who will fight over trivial points of dogma until one is dead. The bloodied survivor will declare victory for his branch of the cult, then in his ultimate loneliness, realize that the success he sought was the destruction of the human race.

The two great armies of evil, Islam and Marxism, are attacking the very foundations of human existence. The good can waste no time, nor spare any effort, even their life, in opposing this conspiracy of death.

  • uptownsteve

Seems to me that it’s the right who is angry. Angry that they’ve lost 5 of the last 6 popular votes in national elections. Angry that the nation is becoming increasingly more diverse and tolerant and less white and conservative. Angry that their 40 year run of race baiting and wedge issues no longer win elections. And angry that they are going the way of the dodo bird and all they can do is yell behind their keyboards.

You try to make the conservative position mono-colored by berating every person of color that would dare adopt or espouse conservative principles, which is why we call you RANCHERS. you even have special terms like “Uncle Tom” to try to force people to your way of thinking. You really don’t like people you heard them. the more people you have under your thumb the more power you have.

Wrong, as usual. Both Angela Merkle and David Cameron have spoken out against multiculturalism and I don’t think you can call them neo-nazi or facist unless you want to be a defendant in a libel lawsuit.

          • uptownsteve

Who said anything about multiculturalism? I sure didn’t. Are Merkle or Cameron proposing expelling people of color from their lands?

          • kasandra

In fact, you did. You responded to the question: “And why is “diversity” encountering a major backlash in places like
Europe?” by saying the people opposing diversity in Europe (which, in the context of Europe is no different from multiculturalism), were neo-nazis and facists. Obviously, they are not and serious worries about and opposition to “diversity” are quite mainstream there. Indeed, Jean Raspail’s “The Camp of the Saints”, published first in 1973, returned to the best seller list there again in 2011. Also, I think in England Cameron did make statements about expelling immigrants or barring their entry. You seem very uninformed for someone who comments so frequently.

          • Omar

Good informative post, but England is not a country. England is one of four internal divisions (along with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) that make up the country called the United Kingdom (or Britain). Calling the UK “England” is offensive to people living in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the UK’s three other internal divisions.

          • kasandra

Yes, but he was “in England” when he made the statement.

        • Drakken

Obviously you have never been to Europe much less understand the dynamics there. The right parties are making huge gains much to the chagrin and fear of the left socialists. Maybe if your traveled outside your little black world you would understand it a little better.

And your evidence that the CBC doesn’t represent all of their constituents is?

          • SCREW SOCIALISM

A lawmaker, being a member of a political organization based on skin color, black or white, is not the hallmark of a fair person who would be able to advocate for people outside of their group.

So given that the GOP Congress is all white then we can assume they don’t represent people of color, right?

How many? Two? And both of those clowns, Guillory and Davis, magically became Republicans when they lost elections as Democrats.

          • Omar

They realized the truth about the left and decided to switch from Democrat to Republican in order to reflect their devotion to true liberalism, which is classical liberalism. By they way, Davis and Guillory aren’t the only two. There are many black conservative Republicans who were once leftist Democrats. Sean Hannity had a special edition of his TV news show, Hannity. In that edition, he discussed about black conservatives (with an audience comprised of black conservatives) and the challenges that they face in contemporary America. So, you are wrong once again.

As long as American blacks are content to remain on the Democrat reservation, Democrats will see to it that they get handouts. That’s pretty patronizing. Just shuffle along there, tug your forelock, and vote for us, and we’ll see to it that you are given what we think you should get.

Conservatives want all Americans to have the freedom to make choices and to keep everyone’s options open, even if that occasionally means that people make harmful choices, because right choices maximize wealth and comfort. Conservatives see that as preferable to government assuming to give everyone everything they need. Blacks and their race pimps interpret that literally as “You’re on your own,” which is nonsense.

    • Joe_NS

The Democratic Party, since the days of Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, Democrat saints, as well as Tammany Hall, has been the party of the “Massah in de Big House,” the plantation party, the slave power, the party of corrupt patronage and vote-buying hacks. The same thing happens in Puerto Rico, where opponents of statehood use scare tactics to discourage residents of the U.S. territory from wanting their island to become a state of the American Union. If it wasn’t for the left’s lunatic propaganda, the conservative movement would be much more diverse. And if it weren’t for the massive propaganda and scare-tactics efforts made by statehood opponents in Puerto Rico, the United States would already have 51 states instead of 50.

Pretty funny stuff. Anyone can see who the angry bitter ones are, and it isn’t the Left. The Teabaggers interrupt townhall meetings with screaming and threats; they brandish their guns in defiance of the law in D.C., they reflexively blame everything from bad weather to mediocre restaurants on the President, and their hatred for everyone who isn’t white, heterosexual, old and Christian is seen by every sane person in the country. Really, it’s time for you people to pack up and move to someplace you’d like better. I suggest Somalia.

  • tagalog

I was looking at the photo that heads this article and it occurred to me that if Occupy Wall Street really thinks “Greed Is So Yesterday,” why do they want the money of the so-called One Percent to go to them?

Is this sign just another manifestation of the now-obvious leftist cognitive dissonance?

    • pocketfrog

That’s not greed, that’s economic justice. And why do you call it “the so-called One Percent”? Do you think they don’t exist?

      • tagalog

Could you expand a little bit on how taking money from one group and giving it to another is justice?

I know there’s a 1% of people who are the top money-makers in our society, as there is in all societies. I also know that in our society, that 1% of top money-makers pay about 1/3 of all the income taxes while 47% of all income earners pay no income tax at all. I consider THAT unequal; wouldn’t you agree?

        • pocketfrog

Do you remember when corporations got bailed out because they were too big to fail? It was you and I who paid for that. Do you think that we’ll get bailed out if we get into trouble? Explain to me how that is justice.

As for taxes, haven’t you heard of the tax shelters being used to avoid paying taxes? It’s not you or I or the rest of the 99% who are using them.

I’m amazed at how there are people like you (who I assume work just as hard as I do, and pay your taxes like I do) who are so willing to let the 1% get away with financial corruption, yet try so hard to prevent any squaring of the ledger. It’s like Stockholm Syndrome or something.

          • tagalog

I’ll address your first question last.

Tax shelters exist for the purpose of avoiding paying taxes. They are laws, made by elected lawmakers. If you don’t like the laws, elect lawmakers who will enact the laws you like. Many of us conservatives are fully in favor of reforming the Internal Revenue Act. It is Democrats who are resisting such reform.

People getting rich per se doesn’t strike me as involving any sort of corruption.

Now your first question: “Too big to fail” to me, and to many other conservatives, is the main identifier that reveals monopolies and trusts, which are outlawed by the (Republican-sponsored) Sherman Act. That the phrase “too big to fail” would be used on a bipartisan basis to justify government bailouts for industry is just as big a surprise to me as it is to you. They should have gone bankrupt, the usual path in times when the idea of handing out government money does not have as much popularity. Furthermore, the bail-outs of corporations came from the darling of most lefties, big government, not from those horrible, greedy capitalists.

          • pocketfrog

“Furthermore, the bail-outs of corporations came from the darling of most lefties, big government…”

Yes, that was the point. Why shouldn’t government redress the balance in favor of those who paid for the bailouts?

Of course I dealt with your original question – you just didn’t like the answer. I explained how the 1% expropriated money from you and me and the rest of the 99% – yet you (and others) argue so passionately against the squaring of the ledger.

The 1% must love being defended by unpaid advocates such as yourself.

          • tagalog

On your paragraph 3, you didn’t explain anything – you made a blanket assertion that I didn’t accept, then you did your best to divert things to your beefs about corporations, then you diverted again to government bailouts going from being evil to being good.

            You win, I quit.

          • pocketfrog

Quit defending the 1%, then we’ll both have won.

          • tagalog

You STILL haven’t explained how it’s OK for one group to take away what another group owns.

  • Alleged Comment

This is why the Jacobins, when the French Old Order was overthrown, sent their own to the guillotine in droves. It is why the 1937 show trials and purges occurred in the Soviet Union. And it is why Obama and his bolshevik cronies in and out of the media whip up hate campaigns against an imaginary ‘Other,’ even when that Other is of the Left. The slightest apostasy is intolerable; almost physically painful. Smelly little orthodoxies will be enforced even unto death.

  • Nabuquduriuzhur

I addressed some of this in national wave of foolishness:

“It’s the same insanity as the current Democrat Party wanting to bring
Socialism, but stupidly expecting that the same benefits of
capitalism would happen when they destroyed so much of the economy in
2009-2012 through socializing so much of it. The rage that so many
Democrats feel is partly due to frustration resulting from this
foolish belief that Socialism can somehow produce the good things of
capitalism and it was proven absolutely wrong in 2009-2012. You don’t
get the good things of capitalism if you destroy them with Socialism.

They just won’t admit it. As always, too, “someone else” is to
    blame. Never what they do.

It goes back to the Counterculture Boomers, for whom “someone
else”, such as the “establishment,” was to blame.

Now that they ARE the “establishment,” it’s magically someone else’
fault. “Those darn conservatives.” Or “those darn Christians.” Or those “right wingers.” “It’s all their fault.” SOMEBODY ELSE is to blame…

Even though the Liberals themselves did it. To themselves and everyone
    else.

Scapegoating. Just like Hi t l er and t he rest of the Na tional So cialists did. Just like the Soviets did. “

  • Lanna
