The Democrats Failed White Voters

wendyThe left isn’t known for being a good loser. The Democrats had counted on women to be their ace in the hole in the election. Now lefty media outlets are lashing out at women.

“White women didn’t just fail Wendy Davis — they failed the rest of Texas,” Salon bellows. That would be the rest of Texas which also voted against Davis. “Married white women… failed Wendy Davis,” another lefty site declares.

It never occurs to the left that Wendy Davis might have failed white women and that they might have rejected her because she had nothing to actually offer them.

In the left’s warped tyranny of ideology, their politicians don’t fail the people. The people fail them. Obama and Davis are always right. It’s up to the people to prove that they’re good enough for a Barack Obama or a Wendy Davis. If they are, the media will pat them on the head for voting the right way. If they aren’t, they’ll be blamed for thinking the wrong way and failing their rightful rulers.

East German authorities had warned that the government had “lost confidence in the people”. Now that white voters have lost confidence in the Democratic Party, the Party is announcing that they failed it.

The left doesn’t listen to people. It tells them what to think. If they don’t agree, then they have failed it.

White women are the latest punching bag for the Democratic Party’s humiliating defeat even though the previous election should have been a warning sign that even the white voters that the left treats as its property were drifting away. Romney had won white women in every age group and the Jewish vote had dropped. If the Dems couldn’t rely on the friendlier portions of the white vote, they were in trouble.

White voters felt that Obama and his party had failed them. Exit polls showed no confidence in the future. Instead of trying to connect with them, the Democratic Party doubled down on identity politics sloganeering. Obama had won anyway which proved that white voters didn’t matter. Not when a sizable turnout and a disproportionate voting tilt by minority voters could politically erase a more moderate tilt among white voters. It didn’t matter if you were losing the white vote by 12 percent if you were winning the black vote by 90 percent. The model had worked for Obama, but it didn’t work for his party.

The shift in the white vote proved to be politically deadly. The 90/12 formula depended on a large minority turnout and a weak white turnout. It also assumed that there wouldn’t be a bigger and deeper shift among white voters.

What happened had nothing to do with a black president. It had to do with using community organizing techniques to win elections. The same racial polarization that brought in black voters also alienated white voters. While the Democrats were selling a narrative of Republican extinction, they were the ones whose extremist identity politics were forcing them into a narrow demographic corner.

Obama won by turning out his base and turning off what used to be his party’s base. The more he committed to racial polarization, the weaker his position with white voters became.

The working class white voter had come to be ignored and disparaged by a Democratic Party that envisioned a new electoral politics based on demographic change and welfare voters coming out to protect their privileges and challenge the “disrespect for our president”. The new slogans of the Democratic Party spoke to a rainbow coalition culture of angry minorities and Sandra Flukes who were constantly demanding things while the Democratic Party’s original base was left by the side of the road.

Working class white voters did not shut out Democrats. The Democrats shut them out.

The Democrats took their positions, such as opposition to coal or support for gun control, as a given and no longer even acknowledged the existence of voters who disagreed. The results were inevitable.

There are now more black Republicans in Congress than there are white Democrats from the Deep South. The War on Coal may have been won at the policy level by the EPA, but the blowback has forced Democrats out of coal country.

In a profound admission of political failure, Democratic consultants are dropping quotes about learning to talk to white voters again. Should a mostly white party really have that much trouble talking to white people? But the white people they’re talking about don’t have much in common with their political establishment of Ivy League grads obsessed with diversity for whom “white people” is a contemptuous punchline. Diversity devalued the existence of white people. Elitist smugness shut out the working class.

The white women who “failed” Wendy Davis didn’t have much in common with her, despite a fictionalized biography of struggle, or with her message which centered on an ideological dog whistle that penetrated loudly and shrilly in Berkeley or Portland, but fell flat in much of Texas.

Voting is as cultural as it is political. Anti-abortion is progressive code for Christian fundamentalist. To the shock of a lot of Blue State media types, this code not only doesn’t work that well in a Red State, but its covert political payload isn’t a bad thing in a place where religion is an organizing principle for communities in the way that virtual fandoms, hobbies and progressive politics can be in a Blue State.

Democratic political consultants didn’t ask themselves why they thought that declaring a Blue State culture war in a Red State was supposed to be a winning formula. Or why women in Colorado or Texas would want to put a lefty culture war pitched in shrill tones ahead of their own economic concerns.

And it’s the economy that is still the issue.

White women in Texas “failed” Wendy Davis because they weren’t interested in an Emily’s List sideshow of pink sneakers, they wanted economic security. White voters failed the Democrats because they weren’t interested in their menu of culture wars. What they wanted was the return of a better life.

And a better life is the one thing that Democrats can’t deliver as affordable health care turned out to be very expensive and every year’s bold new jobs program has consisted of worthless pork.

The Republican Party’s formula for a majority-minority party looks better now than the Democratic Party’s formula for a minority-majority party. Without Obama on the ballot, the Democrats have to confront the possibility that they might be caught without minority turnout or white voters. And that leaves them with nothing. Nothing is what they ended up with in this election.

White voters didn’t fail the Democrats. The Democrats failed white voters.

In order to talk so that Democrats can understand you, one must put people into groups based on skin color. That is how racist Democrats are. They see only skin color, not individuals.

The rest of us know that it is the Democrat’s political ideology which fails every individual. Socialism has never worked because it depends on a human society which will be motivated purely by the ‘common good.’ Humans are motivated by self interest, not the common good – always have been – always will be.

Conservatives and capitalism recognize human nature and leverage it to create a better society. They appeal to self interest to create wonderful goods and services that make the country more successful. Democrats, and their indoctrinated young people, will never understand this.

They dream their impossible utopian visions – which never work.

    • truebearing

The Left leverages power by creating self-interest groups. Their problems begin when they elevate one group above all others, thereby alienating other voter groups. Thjey don’t have enough to offer everyone, so competition for the handouts invariably leads to problems.

One of the great ironies of multiculturalism is that the Left can hardly wait to get to the point where it has totalitarian control so that it no longer has to pander to any group. Then “utopia” springs forth for the self-annointed elite. What a scam.

    • TruthSeekerJew

“Conservatives and capitalism recognize human nature and leverage it to create a better society” – Capitalism can only create a better society if it is ethical capitalism constrained by Biblical morality as opposed to the corrupt crony capitalism we have in the US. An ethical capitalism does not impose the pagan/atheistic, pro gay abomination, anti-family corporate culture predominant in the US.

    • Demo P. Seal; PouponMarks

I will only add that collectivization is the most important word/concept to Democrats=Socialists=Marxists=Progressives. Individuals and their thoughts are only allowed at the top 2%, which was the actual members of the Communist Party in the old Soviet Union. I visited there and saw with my own eyes. That is the model for Obama and his controllers.

    • lyndaaquarius

their real vision isn’t Utopia,it’s Power and the ole Clinton “scorched earth” politics. The “useful idiots” believe in Utopia, the Party leaders/bosses believe only in getting/holding power and control.I wonder if things would be this corrupt if America became a manufacturing giant again? Is that even possible anymore?

      • nimbii

Removing federal, state and local government restraints is a good first step to a favorable manufacturing environment. Fair tax is another.

        • JacksonPearson

For well over two decades, democrats have made it clear what they think of white boy’s, of young white men and of white men. Democrats are even quoted calling for our enslavement, rape, murder and genocide. Democrats are on record saying “If white men are not screaming enough, then we know we are not doing enough”, or something to that effect.

White women may have been drunk off of our blood, but they are sobering up and realizing by going along with democrat party bigotry, they are shooting themselves in the foot.

    • dwayne roberson

Before any discussion may proceed, the “check your privilege” filter must be activated. Cheap leftist tactic to handicap their opposition.

      • lyndaaquarius

won’t fly. People are getting too smart and hungry.

  • truebearing

Whites are sick of the blatant racism of Obama, Holder, and the Democratic Party, and they just as sick of the constant drone of anti-white blather emanating from the media.

The Left has overplayed their race card hand, their gender card hand, their global warming hand, and their class warfare hand. And Islamophobia is a non-starter, thanks at least in part to ISIS. Whites have figured out that the losers in every one of the Left’s scams are themselves and they are starting to realize that survival is not something that can be taken for granted.

People can be taken for granted, but not forever. People are easy to fool when they are doing well, distracted, and having fun, but a few years of hardship sharpens their focus. The Leftocrat’s unbridled arrogance in assuming it owned the female vote, and the concomitant contempt they have shown by suggesting women failed them, is exactly why they are losing a key part of their base. The Left has treated whites like hapless suckers for too long. People are waking to the reality that the Left holds them in contempt and has nothing to offer but more arrogance, debt, instability, dysfunction, and corruption. The Left wore out all of their disguises and ran out of effective lies.

The Left may not have enough fingers to plug all of the holes in the dike. Hispanic and black voters are grumbling too.

Survival was on the ballot in this last election, and it trumped serial lies and dirty money. The Republican leadership might want to make survival a winning theme for every election. It is one theme that effectively neutralizes political correctness.

    • dwayne roberson

And Jonathan Gruber is an early gift to amplify your deductions.

    • lyndaaquarius

so true! What’s that old saying? “nothing focuses the mind like a firing squad”.Many Americans are feeling threatened on so many levels, people of all ethnic groups, not just whites.Like Rush says,”the Dems will always overreach and that is always their downfall.”I see people like Sarah Palin,Ted Cruz, etc, under the radar, moving the whole country to the Right.I think Americans are thinking”no,mr. Obama, you are not stealing my family’s future!”” we’re onto you and your terrible game.”

      • SCREW SOCIALISM

I like Sarah Palin, but she has ZERO credibility.

        • lyndaaquarius

A little bit more than ZERO credibility. Pay attention to all the races she has endorsed, very winning results. Remember, she plays a long, long game.

        • JB Ziggy Zoggy

Zero credibility with the usual suspects. Who cares what they think? We nominate people that we want, not losers that they want. Ideally.

          • SCREW SOCIALISM

We want to save America, not nominate more loozers as US Presidential candidates.

Thank G-d the Republicans took control of the Senate too. The people must be vigilant to any anti-democratic ploys Obama tries to force on the US before the new Senate takes charge.

        • Greg

Carly Fiorina would make an excellent female VP candidate for Scott Walker. I know she brings nothing electorally however she is a strong conservative and is very articulate. She would be a magnate for women voters and men!!

    • Daniel

Your comment about survival being the key issue of this election is the single most astute reply to Greenfield’s article on this thread.
Nationalism is born when a people believe their survival is in serious jeopardy.
If your theory is correct……….then some kind of early nationalist movement is in the making. And if it is……then the previous political calculations will change. Just look at Britain with UKIP and France with Marine Le Pen.

      • truebearing

Your conclusion that we are headed toward a nationalistic movement is likely correct, but we are also headed toward racial balkanization. Obama and the Left have succeeded in dividing Americans into racial groups and encouraging racism. By blaming whites for all the evils of life on earth they encouraged racism in whites. By ginning up racial grievances against whites, they encouraged racism in minority populations.

Even if the Left loses all power, they have succeeded in doing the only thing they do well: setting into motion the evil dynamics of discord that destroy civilized nations.

Voting for survival has its downsides. It deepens the us vs them mentality, ensuring division and most likely, civil strife. Like a snake that bites its victim, then retreats and waits for the poison to take effect, the Left can sit back and wait for the racial and sectarian animosity to reduce the nation to a point where they can regain credibility as the solution. It will take some divinely inspired leadership to prevent the united from becoming irreversibly divided, therefore easy pickings for totalitarians.

        • Daniel

I have to disagree with “voting for survival has it downsides.” Where is there to go after self-extinguishment?
The nihilistic suicidism of the Left is a blind alley.
Nietzsche said…….”now that you have killed God and along with Him the mechanism of forgiveness, mankind will be sentenced to an endless cycle of violence and retribution.”
Western man will rally around the Cross of St. George or he will perish.

          • truebearing

Don’t get me wrong. There is no alternative to fighting for survival when the Left has hijacked the healthcare system, is flooding the nation with illegals, destroying the economy, etc. My point is that when we get to a situation where people revert to tribalism, we lose many of the advantages and power civilization provides. Becoming a society that mirrors prison culture, where everyone is divided by race, is not a good situation for anyone.

We all need to resist the tribalism the Left has encouraged and restore awareness in the principles that made this country the greatest nation in human history.

          • Daniel

            Yes……well put.
A framework to consider that sheds light on our current situation could be stated as “a return to ancient paganism”.
The Left is dismantling traditional Judeo-Christian culture and regressing us to a barbarian, pagan culture.

    • wholerest

      Hello Truebearing,
      Good points–all!

I caught the clip of one of the Obamacare craftsmen and, unless the clip was taken out of context, the fellow called the voting public “stupid”. My own experiences have taught me that most individuals don’t liked to be called “stupid”. That said, I like to believe that even some Democrat voters will inhale deeply, relax, ponder, and experience an epiphany that their party duped them and has no true respect for the caliber of their thought processes–period.

      • truebearing

        Thanks.

It appears that at least some are waking up. Time will tell how many.

    • Greg

      Well said, truebearing, well said.

  • camp7

This last election was encouraging. All of the left’s hype and propaganda to continue the status quo of hate failed miserably.

People grew sick and tired of wasted stimulus billions, dangerous foreign policy, unaffordable health care and all the pathetic lies by this current administration. Now folks are genuinely concerned about the future of this country.

There is no war on women, blacks can excel in this country and for most people it is about family economics.

The Democrats crashed big-time thinking most voters are sheep led by hate speech and phony promises. More and more people have access to information and realize their vested interest. Blaming white women is the epitome of Democrat despair and only proves the pragmatism of informed women voters. The ones liberal Democrats insulted by assuming they couldn’t think for themselves.

I’m going to enjoy this victory as long as I can.

    • dwayne roberson

Their “useful idiots” are more intelligent and less useful to them than they expected.

If the GOP can do Something positive in the next 2 years and if the Dems. continue with the Phony ideological struggle BS, not even Hillary will save them. And Warren…..forget her completely. She is only a “player” with the radical idealogues in her party. Obama won twice because of minorities, they won’t come out in 2016 even for Hillary. Should the Repubs. pick a strong candidate ( not Bush,Romney type), they can win !!

    • bigjulie

Unfortunately, all the “strong candidates” are Tea Party. Good luck with that happening…

    • JB Ziggy Zoggy

Actually, Romney is a very strong potential candidate. Don’t fool yourself.

      • Greg

For whatever reason Romney flopped as a presidential candidate. Let’s nominate some one who can tear the left a new one!

    • Greg

Nor will they come out for the phony Indian, Warren.

  • Sheik Yerbouti

It’s interesting to watch them turn on people. Like spoiled children who didn’t get their way. I wonder though if they are going to attempt to escalate their war on white women (they never actually liked them at all, they just figured white girls would be “easy”). Since “fighting” seems to be their only strategy, I’d say the odds are good. I await Oprah’s lamentations toward the very people who put her where she is today. I wonder how many white women will be interested in Oprah’s book club now?

The real problem with all of this blatant, loud & proud hatred of white Americans is that it is causing white Americans to unify, the very thing they hoped wouldn’t happen. How could whites unify with all the messages to the contrary? We’ve been bombarded with messages for decades reminding us of how evil white people are. How stupid we are. And how we can’t survive a commercial without some brilliant non-white to save our assses.

Will democrats go after white women in the US? Of course they will. They’re white!

    • jon

The commercials are sooooo irritating! Does Madison Ave. get directives from the left or, are they that left-leaning? The black sky diving couple finally pushed me over the top…..

      • Scar

Good to see that I’m not the only one who finds this trend irritating! The stupid white people being enlightened by the wise, kindly, minority sage (I initially wrote “black” instead of “minority,” but I decided not to be a complete racist…dont want to upset Al!). And it goes on and on and on and on…heck, I was beginning to develop an inferiority complex.

  • http://libertyandculture.blogspot.com/ Jason P

One wonders if the racial hysteria, spearheaded by Al Sharpton, lost the white vote. Obama never condemned the hysteria and indeed fed into it. Who can forget “Trayvon could have been my son?” Where is his condemnation of the lynch mob in Ferguson? How about the Harvard prof and the beer summit?

The post-racial healer turns out to be another Sharpton … and he doesn’t think that will lose the white vote? He rose to power on the Oprah show and carefully crafted his image as an “African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy” (to use his Vice President’s words.) But in power he turned out to be a far left radical that fans racial tensions. After all, you just can do photo ops forever. The mask has fallen, even for the average voter.

    • De Doc

Hardball identity politics. We all need to get used to this model from now on. I think the DP will eventually lose the Blacks, Hispanics, and other assorted minorities, because they’ll have their own race identity based political parties.

    • dwayne roberson

And the Duke lacrosse team, and the Tawana Brawley excrement smearing police and on… and on….

“In the left’s warped tyranny of ideology, their politicians don’t fail the people. The people fail them. ”

And if the Dems can’t trust the people, they’ll manufacture a new people and a new electorate via their “open borders” strategy – growing numbers to fill the “identity” ranks, most dependent to some extent on Democratic largesse.

  • RIckuh

It appears that the only way the Dems can win the White House in the near future will be to make sure they get a huge minority/single women turnout. Expect them to ramp up their divisive rhetoric soon after the next Congress is sworn in.

    • lyndaaquarius

Mock their stupid “divisive rhetoric”. Talk constantly about all the dying cities that are Dem controlled for decades. Expose how destructive the Dems have been to the black community, just using them for votes. So much ammunition to fight back with.

      • dwayne roberson

Yes Lynda! And tell them about Rebel Pundit on youtube.

        • lyndaaquarius

    • MrUniteUs1

Dems will pick up a substantial number of white votes in the next election.

Republicans really haven’t done anything to benefit the white working class. Regan fired air traffic control union workers, eliminated the Ira tax deduction, granted amnesty to illegals. Bush change the tax laws to make it more profitable to ship jobs overseas. When he left Americans mostly white were losing over 800,000 jobs a month. Republicans were ready to let the American auto industry collapse. They want to repeal Obamacare, medicare, and social security. Mostly whites effected by all of the above. McCain said the economy was fine, while his nephew’s bank was failing. The stock market was nose diving. Republicans had no clue.

  • http://www.clarespark.com/ Clare Spark

I was very pleased to see economic issues foregrounded in DG’s blog. “Economic determinism” has long been identified as a tic of the Left. One does not have to buy the leftist program to consider economics over culture (or inseparable from culture). See http://clarespark.com/2009/10/10/ralph-bunche-and-the-jewish-problem/: “Ralph Bunche and the Jewish problem.”

  • Debbie G

So the Democrats want to learn how to talk to white women. And what would they like to chat about? More of the same old, same old (abortion rights and birth control)? Do they have any new, profound ideas up their sleeve? I’m dying to hear the platform.

    • lyndaaquarius

      they got nothing!!!

    • Bash Brannigan

They have nothing else because in their small minds, that is the sum of women…which means they also think women are myopic.

  • Tom

I used to be a Democrat until I realized how many govt programs I was paying for, meaning, how many taxes I was paying towards welfare-type programs and Departments (EPA, DOE, etc.). THESE ARE USELESS PROGRAMS that go against the very definition of WE, THE PEOPLE. They are anti-parent and anti-business departments and the welfare offices are truly ANTI-PROSPERITY programs. WHEN DID I REALIZE THIS? When I went to college to get my Computer Science degree and took courses in BUSINESS, HISTORY, AND GOVERNMENT – and this was just before I decided what my major was going to be. The University I went to was PRO-BUSINESS and didn’t teach pro or anti government policies. THEY JUST TOLD THE TRUTH and then let YOU decide.

So, I went from being an Democrat to an Independent because I also knew the Republicans were going down the very same road as the Democrats.

I BELIEVE IN AMERICANS – NOT GOVERNMENT.

    • Bash Brannigan

      Woo-hoo! Good comment!

  • swampwiz0

Oh, the Democrats could deliver affordable health care – Medicare For All. And even though ObamaRomneyHeritageCare is imperfect, it is only more expensive than what was there before because that (before) was either junk or was inaccessible to anyone with so much as a pimple on his buttock (either during the application underwriting process, or when the insurance is actually used, resulting in rescission.) The bottom line is that folks can get insurance now, and anyone at or below a moderate income gets a tax credit to make the insurance affordable – and most folks earning more than that have a good job that has its own insurance outside of the ObamaRomneyHeritageCare system.

    • unionville

The bottom line is that anyone could get insurance before. Not only that, they could also get medical care before. Even without insurance.

Saudis are laughing. They know most Americans don’t have a clue.

Racism is use to hide classism. The problem is Republicans policies benefit wealthy donors and hurt the white working class and poor. I.e. Republicans are anti union, anti public schools, anti government workers, anti post office, anti -medicare, anti social security etc. Meanwhile they like companies like Bain that have no problem shipping white American jobs overseas to non-white countries.

Republicans should start thinking about running on an anti-islam message(an end to immigration from muslim countries). People don’t know about what is going on in Europe and if they did, it would play well with women. Muslim immigration is the most important issue we face. A few muslims create more problems than many hispanics.

A great summary, maybe the women voters are onto the librals’ lies about conservaties treatment of women

I hate to have to bear the news that it is game over, and was so
already in 2008. The election of 2004 was the last time a conservative
(of any sort) will win national office in the US. Thereafter the
presidency went to the Left, and will be cemented in further with legal
and undocumented immigration. A consequence of the symbolic
event of the Obama presidency, an African in the White House,
is that Africa is full of people who want to migrate to the US, and many
will come and vote for the Left.

The historical forces which set in motion these events was unleashed
    already in the 1960s.

Next to go will be the US Senate, once enough states have entered the
demographic inversion. The next big state to go this way is Florida,
and I do not have to explain to you the consequences of that. Texas
will follow in a decade or so.As an aside, the prayer in the
Washington Cathedral by Ebrahim Rasool is only the first of its kind.
There is some divine justice in that it is Mr Rasool who gave this
sermon, the first Imam to preach in the almost defunct official
Christian Church of Washington. Mr Rasool, you see, was a right hand man
of Mr Mandela. And Mr Mandela, we all recall, is an American Hero,
enabled and supported by Americans, and who achieved his goal of taking
South Africa because America supported him.

I agree. Is it possible the voters have finally caught on to the phoniness of the left? I guess only time will tell. It will be interesting political theater the next 2-years. What new strategy if any will the lefties employ to replace their precious identity politics which apparently has now fallen on deaf ears? I am sure they are working on it as we speak.

While we can all respect Dr. Carson, he needs to hold political office before he can become a serious candidate. Scott Walker of Wisconsin appears to be the right man. If he can accomplish what he did in Wisconsin on a national scale what a better country we would all live in!
