The Dems Lost and It’s Not Their Fault

0719-CPELOSI-05-PELOSI-US-POLITICS-GOVERNMENT-CONGRESS-PELOSI_full_600The Democrats lost and no one is resigning. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi intend to stay on even after overseeing the largest political catastrophe for their party in decades. In six years, Pelosi went from a House majority of 257 seats to a current running total in the 180s. Harry Reid took a Senate majority and turned it into a minority and all he has to show for it are a lot of donations from out-of-state law firms.

Not only aren’t Harry and Nancy resigning, but they aren’t even taking any responsibility. Irresponsibility is the Democratic word of the day and the decade. Harry is blaming Barry. Barry is blaming Harry. No one is even paying attention to Nancy ever since she became irrelevant four years ago.

The Democrats don’t just preach irresponsibility and pander to the irresponsible. They are irresponsible.

Democrats often point to Congress’s low approval ratings as proof that the public doesn’t support the Republicans. They neglect to mention that its present low approval rating of 14 matches its low point of 14 under Pelosi and Reid’s Democratic majority. The last time Congress had an approval rating above 40, there were Republican majorities in the House and Senate.

It isn’t Republican obstructionism that keeps the approval ratings low. That’s just the narrative that the real Democratic obstructionists used once they lost their majority in order to give Obama sanction for unilateral rule. Now Senate and House Democrats have paid the price for the damage that they inflicted on their party by allowing Obama’s unilateral and incoherent policymaking to define them.

Obama “won” by locking in an opposition Congress that leaves him as the only significant elected member of his party. He has achieved what he sought all along by reducing his entire party to him. By completely isolating himself politically, Obama has eliminated any dissent from within his own party.

He has become a “Party of One.”

It’s not much of a victory for any politician who isn’t a wannabe dictator or a hopeless narcissist.

Like his congressional leaders, Obama refuses to concede that the election had anything to do with him, despite claiming beforehand that it was all about his policies. During the election, his inner narcissist wanted to make the election about him, even though his own party begged him not to.

But now that the election is lost, he isn’t responsible and is blaming the “map” which is his way of saying that he didn’t lose the game. The game was unfair.

The most powerful man in the world is making the same excuse as a little boy losing at Monopoly. But he has a point. There was no way to win on his terms by maximizing the turnout of the base with ugly polarizing identity politics. The closest thing to that effort came from “Senator Uterus” and his off-putting “War on Women” rhetoric and it failed. If Obama can’t win with identity politics, then the election is unfair… and the only way to fix it is with illegal alien amnesty for demographic change.

Illegal alien amnesty is the adult political equivalent of overturning the board of the United States, tossing all the American voters on the floor, and remaking the country with new majorities.

That way identity politics will always be a winning move.

That’s why Obama isn’t offering any actual compromises. Instead he came out and threatened executive action on illegal alien amnesty. Then he offered the possibility that he might consider giving the Republicans some of what they want if they give him everything he wants. That’s not how he negotiates with Iran, but he obviously has warmer feelings for the Ayatollahs than he does for the Republican Party.

It’s not as if there are any adults in the room.

Joe Biden prepped for the election by getting blonde hair plugs so he can seem younger than Hillary when he runs against her. He’s polling at 21% among Dems 18 to 29, the only age group in whose support for Hillary he has managed to make a serious dent.  Biden may be four years older than Hillary, but with enough caps, implants and procedures, he can appear young enough for a mid-life crisis.

Biden predicted that the Dems would hold the Senate. Had he spent less time looking in the mirror and styling the new scalp that he had gotten stapled to his skull and more time looking at the polls, he might have had been able to prepare his party for the actual outcome.

On the party side, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will launch a review to see what went wrong. It’s a safe bet that the thing that went wrong won’t involve her. But maybe Debbie should have paid more attention to what the voters thought of her party instead of trying to find new arguments to get it to pay for her dresses.

At least Biden wasn’t sending the DNC the bill for his hair plugs. Or so we hope.

Barry and Harry, Nancy and Debbie have one real skill between them and that’s raising money. All of them are good at parting billionaires from big checks in exchange for specified and unspecified favors. None of them are any good at actually running things or at accepting responsibility when they go wrong.

And then there are the Clintons, the 2016 frontrunners whose fundraising skills are unparalleled, but who couldn’t stop Arkansas or West Virginia from going GOP and whose aggressive campaign strategy fizzled. Like Harry and Nancy, Hillary isn’t about to step back. Like Obama, she isn’t accepting responsibility for the defeat; instead her backers say she’ll benefit from a Republican House and Senate.

It’s not bad enough that the Dems torched their own legislative majority to make it easier for Obama to blame Republicans, but now they’re celebrating losing the Senate because that makes it even easier for Hillary Clinton to blame Republicans.

And if Hillary loses in 2016, think how easy it will be for the Dems to finally be able to blame Republicans for everything.

This isn’t how serious political leaders act. This is how children behave.

The winning Dem strategy is to have the most power and the least responsibility. They want to rule unilaterally and blame the Republicans for everything that goes wrong. They want to nuke the filibuster, the power of the legislature and then claim that their man is acting like a dictator because of the GOP.

They need the Republican Party as a scapegoat for their policymaking failures, but they can’t blame it for their political failures. That’s too much like admitting defeat.

If the Democrats didn’t lose because the Republicans offered a compelling vision or because of their own incompetence, then why did they lose? The only remaining excuse is racism. The Democrats have taught a chunk of their base to blame their own failures on racism. Now they want to do the same.

Harry and Barry, Nancy and Debbie can stay in their old jobs and ride their party off the cliff. And it won’t be their fault. No one will have to be fired. No policies will have to be rethought.

It will be because the map was unfair. Because America is racist. Because the dog ate their homework and the Koch Brothers unfairly ran the same attack ads that they had been running and it was raining outside and some states had Voter ID and there wasn’t enough early voting and the lines were too long and their shoelaces broke and everything out of their control conspired unfairly to make them lose.

The only thing that can save the Dems is responsibility. But after so many years of preaching irresponsibility, the irresponsible party has poisoned itself with its own product.

It’s their whole and only schtick – every thing is always someone else’s fault. Always shift the responsibility for your own failings onto somebody, anybody, else.

    • Scar

Very true, and they’ve been teaching irresponsibility to the Great Unwashed for decades. Isn’t it admirable that they choose to lead by example?

      • nimbii

        That’s a good one Scar!

  • Lastango

Fair enough, but I’d be a lot more sympathetic if the GOP had dispensed with Karl Rove, the chief architect of the eight wasted years of George Bush and the accompanying destruction of the Republican Party. And of the establishment RINOs that have actually left the stage, most had to be crowbared out of their jobs by the Tea Party.

    • Nadzieja Batki

You are doing the same thing as O, needing somebody else to blame and in your eyes it is Karl Rove. I didn’t know Rove was so omnipotent, and omniscient and Bush’s keeper and handler. Poor little Bushy baby, such a sweet babykins that could do no wrong. Republican Party is its own biggest problem because it hasn’t kept an eye on who claims they are Republican.

      • Lastango

You sound like a Lefty freshman.

…And to be clear, Rove is only the tip of the RINO iceberg. He had plenty of help. The rest of them need to get lost too.

  • truebearing

No one in prison ever did anything wrong either. They were framed, their lawyer sucked, it was a case of mistaken identity, the cops planted the gun. Prison is the appropriate place for all of them for much better reasons than lying about who is to blame.

I’m a Green Bay Packer fan, and really enjoyed the Sunday night game. At 55 to 14, what is not to like? The first half was actually great comedy. We laughed uproariously time after time, but something tells me the Chicago fans have a different take on the game. Most likely, everyone but the gatorade guy will be blamed for the loss. And just as likely, having considerable experience listening to Bear fans whine after a drubbing by the Packers, they will fail to realize that it is a team sport. The team lost. They didn’t play as a team.

The Leftocrats don’t either. They are all too obsessed with power to “take one for the team.” They are always willing to sacrifice someone else, be it a virgin or a fellow totalitarian. Their Lie Machine failed them. The War on Women floated over the sidelines like a Jay Cutler pass, and even their own constituents laughed in derision. The Left needs some new lies and some new causes. In the meantime they will lie about who was at fault.

  • Elizabeth capecod

That’s what democrats do – they shirk responsibility on everything. No wonder they are so against the principle of personality responsibility. They can’t relate to the concept at all.

  • johnlac

While I’ll admit to taking a lot of pleasure in the Democrat Party’s recent misfortune, it won’t do well for conservatives to gloat too much. Lib/leftists still control many levers of power….the press, academia, and the general culture.

I was once again reminded of the latter while watching a show on PBS last night about some British gov. agent who discovered a plot by evil, rogue CIA agents to build secret prisons around the world where poor unfortunate Al Qaeda and ISIS types would be tortured. If only. One solace is that only a few people watch PBS

But they, liberals, still have the largest megaphone constantly blaring at Americans telling them they’re victims of the cruel, oppressive, white male dominated, capitalist system.
We still have a major battle ahead of us to permanently defeat this three-headed hydra of statism.

    • Infidel4Ever

Well said. You know the liberal media machine will go into overdrive for 2016. And Americans were stupid enough to elect BS Barry in the first place.

    • Lightbringer

Indeed. The Left began its Long March through the Institutions over a century ago, and they have been subtle and patient. We must take back the press, education, the general culture and also the legal profession. It will take time and patience, but the results will be a reinvigorated, Constitutional United States.

      • nimbii

We know what they did and we must have an understanding of how they did it.

        • Lightbringer

They did it with patience and perseverance, starting very low on the food chain: once you control the local school board, you hold the future hostage to your ideas. And then you can work your way up.

          • dwayne roberson

It took the prohibition progressives a generation to pull off the Volstead act. They raised an anti liquor generation to voting age maturity.

      • PapayaSF

That, and they compromised. We’re not in the semi-socialist mess we’re in because the Socialist Party won elections. We got here because the socialists took over the Democratic Party, and took what they could, a bit at a time: Fabian socialism.

    • Harald Eigerson

You forgot to mention an entrenched career bureaucracy that stays in place year after year and election after election. They rule their feifs like third world despots, jealously gaurd their perogotives and power, and circumvent both the judicial and legislative processes. Think I’m exagerating? The reason the IRS is running Obama care is that with them their is no presumption of innocence so they can grab your money without going through the courts. The EPA is well known to to make up policies that have the effect of law without going through congress.
The best thing that a conservative president can do is to clean house of the people who are damaging this country and its people. But, but, but I’ve given a lifetime of service to this country says the bureacrat, Well I say he should just be thankful to not be in jail for the damage he has caused.

      • nimbii

Yes, the bureaucracy is often referred to as the 4th branch of congress.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid aren’t retiring? Well, good; we wouldn’t want to risk someone taking their places who are actually competent. The Republicans have a hard enough time defeating the INcompetent.

“Thank God our greatest ally is still alive.”

–Winston Churchill on hearing of the failed assassination attempt on Hitler

Obama is happy to sacrifice his minions to his long-term agenda of transformation. Reid, Pelosi, and Debbie are happy to sacrifice their colleagues to The Agenda. But Dingy Harry, at least, has had enough of falling on his sword for the Boy King. Finally, the self-serving corruptocrats are breaking with the fanatic ideologues. If the great O is impeached, it will come from the D side of the aisle. Either way, the liberal establishment is looking to Hillary to save them.

    Another excellent article, Mr. Greenfield.

What now for the Senator from Park Slope, Charles Schumer?

Even at NPR, one hears repeated Bob Dole’s quip that “the most dangerous place to be in Washington is between Schumer and a television camera.”

Having inflicted protege Anthony Weiner on an unwary public, “Chuck” has done little of late save for shadowing Harry Reid, and dreaming of becoming majority leader of the Senate.

Then again, in May Schumer did promise to introduce by year’s end a bill that has been described as “a dagger through the heart of the Bill of Rights.”

And he said at that time he’d work to pass a constitutional amendment to allow Congress and the states to restrict the people’s freedom to finance elections.

This great Democrat initiative was embraced by the hapless Mark Udall of Colorado, who in losing his bid for another Senate term, came to be known as “Mark Uterus.”

But the oleaginous “Chuck” soldiers on, now in the minority – but to what end, God only knows.

    • Harald Eigerson

If Anthony Weiner had a mafia name it would be Tony the baloney. Given the Kennedy’s association with Sam Giancana, or Whitey Bulger’s dalliance with politics through brother Senator William Bulger or even William J “cold cash”Jefferson, I don’t think I’m venturing to far into the absurd. Even impeachment and removal from office is not an impediment for someone as driven as former judge current U.S. Representative (FLA 20th dist .) Alcee Hastings.

Policies and irresponsibility (starting with what caused the 07/08 crash), and bubble blindness denial with all the cause and effect devastation to the people and country with their abuse of power. And progressives think their results merit to rule. There is not much hope in their change, their transformation. Proof is in the pudding.

They are simply a party of children. Juvenile delinquents who live in the teen bliss of the ignorance of their own ignorance, demanding their righteousness reigns supreme and that they may dance the night away free from the worry of the next day’s consequence. They sleep soundly couched in the comforts and security of their ‘parental’ media and academia who will rise to chase away any and all unwelcome intruders. All the bad things that happen are things that happen, “way over there.” It’s not necessarily our responsibility anymore. They just want to organize and organize and legislate the sheep to death. Sheep don’t bite and mean people suk. Pajama Politics at its finest.

These Dem’s Ain’t Loyal. They ran away from the President and right out of job. President Obama had an 83% approval rating among Democratic voters, Democratic candidates should have focused on that high approval rating and getting Democratic voters out to vote. Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz part time head of the Democratic National Comittee, never mentioned this, presented no national strategy, and delivered no national message. Contrast that to the XLNT work done by full time DNC chairs Howard Dean, and Ron Brown. They were out there every day telling Americans all over the country why they should vote for Democrats. Every football fan knows that the best quarterbacks can’t win games with a weak front line. President Obama had no front line. Had Democrats been loyal, defended the President, and their own voting records they would have done much better. The President and Dems saved the economy, expanded health care, and reduced unemployment. Americans of all skin tones, and political stripes benefited. They support increasing the minimum wage. But instead of hammering these messages home, Dems ran away. Politics is no place for scareDcats.

    • Dave2240

Perhaps Debbie Donothing never told people why they should vote for Democrats because there are no longer any reasons to do so.

    • truebearing

Obama couldn’t be a good quarterback in flag football. He throws like a girl.

Obama didn’t save the economy. That is sheer idiocy. He prolonged the recession and made it worse with his punitive policies, such as the strangulating banking regulations.

Health Cre expaned only in power. just as many, if not more people lack health care now as before ObamaSnare. It was all about control and power.

Record numbers of people have stopped looking for work, so Obama’s crooks delete them from the unemployment calculations. The real unemployment numbers are way higher than the lies the Labor Dept puts out.

The Dems ran away because the people were chasing them. Their lies, much like your own, aren’t working anymore.

      • MrUniteUs1

Actually a record number of people retire each month. 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 every day. Unemployment, budget deficit, taxes down; stock market, real estate, auto industry, consumer confidence and Jay Z tickets up. Jay Z selling out at $300.00.
Repub job and budget cuts slowed down the recovery.
Dems should have ran on this chart.

Things like “Global Warming”, the original mantra, are disproportionately staffed by leftist whites. Very few black Americans get involved with any sort of ecological issues. It’s just not their bag and doesn’t hold any apparent benefit for them. Until Obama came along. And only since Obama’s presidency does it seem like black Americans give a crap about it. But the only reason they do is because of Barry. So he really is the perfect tool for leftists. White leftists are already on a wait list to kneel and bob on Obama. Blacks may not agree entirely with Obama and still don’t care about the environment any further than they can toss a used wrapper, but they will defend him against any whitey who makes the mistake of disagreeing with the lord savior Obama. It was actually amusing to see such a high percentage of black Americans get totally taken by this phony “African-American”. He was never an American. Which is why black Americans should be ashamed of themselves for letting this nightmare take office ONLY because he was black. Admit it. You got PLAYED black America. Now he’s going to dispose of you by adding another 40 million Hispanics. There are only 41 million blacks in the US. Say bye bye to your political future. The race card is about to take a very nasty turn.

      One minor problem.

Obama is about as popular as rabies in a lot of these places.

      http://go.bloomberg.com/political-capital/2012-11-08/obama-shut-out-in-west-virginia/

Here’s something President Barack Obama couldn’t do in victory that even George McGovern and Barry Goldwater mustered in landslide defeats.

Win a county in West Virginia.

It’s apparently the first time in history that a major-party presidential nominee failed to carry any of West Virginia’s 55 counties, according to a Political Capital review of election statistics.

      But guess who did?

      http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/05/09/federal-inmate-makes-strong-showing-against-obama-in-west-virginia-primary/

Just how unpopular is President Barack Obama in some parts of the country? Enough that a man in prison in Texas is getting 4 out of 10 votes in West Virginia’s Democratic presidential primary.

The inmate, Keith Judd, is serving time at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Texas for making threats at the University of New Mexico in 1999. With 93 percent of precincts reporting, Obama was receiving just under 60 percent of the vote to Judd’s 40 percent.

      • MrUniteUs1

Last time I checked President Obama’s approval rating was 83% among Democrarts and 4% among Republicans. The one Senate candidate that Obama campaigned with won. Those that chose to distance themselves, will find themselves many miles distant from Washington D.C.
Regarding West Virginia, I would have highlighted coal miner safety regulations, and black lung disease treatment programs supported by President Obama and the Dems. I would also remind them of the money he gave to Appalachian students fund, part of his Nobel Peace prize money.

Cowardice taints every aspect of Leftists, which the modern Democrats certainly are. They can no more take the blame for a failure as they can muster the wherewithal to lead using truth. Every fiber of their being is a lie and a con game to prevent the truth about them from getting out. The truth that they are weak, scared, manipulative people who want to control everything around them so they can’t be offended from any perceived difference of opinion or outlook, which is a slight to their feeble emotionally-driven minds.

They are adolescents at best with modern Armies and police forces at their disposal. And they need to be further removed from the seats of power.

Before, that was in October. But if 83% approval in one party and single digit approval in the other party. Then the overall approval is going to be in the low forties.

  • fistdeyuma

Don’t forget racism and voter suppression. Those are two key talking points for Liberals today. Then there is Obama stating that the 2/3 of voters who did not bother to go to the polls are fully supporting him, so he has a mandate to do what he wants.
