Yeah, those thoughts are as foreign to me as bible scripture is to you. I've read them before and I used to believe they were true. I can't argue with you. We are all here for such a short time, and we have to find our way through the best we can.
I cannot tell you about anyone else's experience except mine. I do not attend church. I don't believe or trust most of the popular TV preachers, or even most of the preachers in my small town. My walk with God is my own. It's personal. God made Himself known to me in a big way, and continues to do so. Yes, I'm saying the God of the universe knows me! He knows my name. He even knows how many hairs are on my head. He knew me when I was being formed in my mother's womb. And if I were to die and find out that believing in God was a waste of time, what have I lost? I will have led my best life and died a woman with peace in her heart. What's so wrong about that? I'm not out there flying planes into buildings or demanding that anyone believe "my way" or else.

I don't try to make anyone believe in God. That was never my job. Each of us is free to go their own way. I'm not a moron or an idiot any more that you are. I am confident in my beliefs, just as you are in yours.

But Allisc, what if you're wrong?

:-) he didn't pray for hair because the story never happened!!

I guess if you know that, that's it!
I know the opposite that there are no gods, never were, including all of the gods of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt and all the rest ( hundreds). For the life of me cannot understand how/why anyone would read such a vile inane book cobbled together in the second century from ancient myths mostly stolen from other religions. You would be better off reading a good book on philosophy.
They say....study one religion and you will be converted, study two and you will be free (aka atheist). My feeling about your god is the same as your feeling about all of the other gods. I just don't make an exception.

I know who changed your nature. YOU did. Do you think for a moment that with 7,000,000,000 people on earth that it makes sense to think that a god is looking after YOU? How many people died yesterday and the day before ....kids ...old...parents...teens.....all dead ..some with very short lives...thats just the way it is.

"why didn't Elisha just call upon the Lord to give him more hair?"

LOL love that! Good question. I'd like to know the answer to that too.

I believe you have every right to your opinion and feelings, and to express those as you see fit. I would not attack you for speaking what you believe. I appreciate that you have shown me that same respect.

AllisC, I haven't always been a Christian. I was in my mid 30s when I met Jesus. Over the course of my life I was a miserable, vile human being. I've done things that nobody knows but God. But my life completely changed for the better and I found peace and love in Jesus. I am content. God didn't change my circumstances but He did change my nature. I am very wary of being deceived, so my conversion was not easy. I had to know that He was real. And I know.

We each have a place where we know when something is right/wrong, true/false, good/bad. I don't know if it's the heart or the brain, but my "knower" knows God is real. I won't even pretend to have all the answers. I still have questions when I read the bible. I don't know why God did some of the things He did. But you seem to be familiar with scriptures. Do you think God is just a bad guy or raging loon or do you believe He exists? I'm curious.

It matters not if they were killed or not. My points are the severe punishment from a supposed god and the absurdity of the story. I went to the link. I found it very typically written with many phrases like.......scripture says......or jesus says. I feel sorry for a person who has been brainwashed to the point that they use a book of myths to guide their life.....and......even stranger to actually pray for something.
This story about the bears is perfect example of how xians cherry pick bits of the bible, explain it away with novel interpretation or worst of all simply say god gave us life so he can kill whomever he wants to. Bizarre behavior. I have had many debates with xians onthe absurdity and harm of religion. They all say.....you cant prove god doesnt exist....and ...the bible provesjesus existed. It is obvious to the rational world that the bible is a book of myths and that most players including jesus never actually existed. I wonder when you were evangelized....probably as a child.....you never had a chance..tragic.

You didn't actually read my reply did you? The scripture does not say that they were killed. I didn't rewrite the verses or make it up.
I feel bad for you AllisC. It's obvious that you are filled with hate and anger and rage toward a God you don't believe in. Odd, isn't it....
Who hurt you so badly that you cannot trust again?

You might enjoy this article I read a couple of days ago.

we find the prophet Elisha (not to be confused with Elijah, who got swept up to heaven by a whirlwind earlier in the chapter) innocently making his way to Bethel. At least 42 young people emerge from the town (must have been a really boring town) to ridicule Elisha's follicly-challenged head. This is clearly a sensitive issue for Elisha, and he calls upon the almighty to defend his pride. Yahweh sees it as fit punishment to unleash two bears upon 42 of the youths (presumably, the worst offenders). The King James version says the bears areshe bears, and we know mother bears can be especially edgy, but surely they did not confuse Elijah's bald head for one of their cubs? One also wonders why the bears were able to attack 42 of the youths. If you were an incorrigible and unscrupulous youth and saw your comrades mauled by the bears, surely you'd flee for safety. The bears would have to be pretty darn fast or unrelenting to maul 21 apiece. Try to visualize this scenario; it's hard to do. Some try to defend this passage by saying the "youths" were in their twenties or thereabouts, not children. Like that somehow makes being maimed by a bear fair punishment for teasing a bald man.

Update: Come to think of it, why didn't Elisha just call upon the Lord to give him more hair? That would have still shut the youths up, without anyone getting mauled.

2 Kings 2:23-24 “From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. ‘Go on up, you baldhead!’ they said. ‘Go on up, you baldhead!’ He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.” It seems unbelievable that God would cause two bears to maul a group of children for making fun of a man for being bald. (the scripture does not say that they were killed, but that they were mauled)

First, the King James Version has done us a disservice by translated the term as “children.” The Hebrew word can refer to children, but rather more specifically means "young men." The NIV, quoted here, uses the word “youths.” Second, the fact that the bears mauled 42 of the youths indicates that there were more than 42 youths involved. This was not a small group of children making fun of a bald man. Rather, it was a large demonstration of young men who assembled for the purpose of mocking a prophet of God.

2 Kings 2:23-24 is not an account of God mauling young children for making fun of a bald man. Rather, it is a record of an insulting demonstration against God’s prophet by a large group of young men. Because these young people of about 20 years of age or older (the same term is used of Solomon in1 Kings 3:7) so despised the prophet of the Lord, Elisha called upon the Lord to deal with the rebels as He saw fit. The Lord’s punishment was the mauling of 42 of them by two female bears. The penalty was clearly justified, for to ridicule Elisha was to ridicule the Lord Himself. The seriousness of the crime was indicated by the seriousness of the punishment. The appalling judgment was God’s warning to all who would scorn the prophets of the Lord.

To lose something I don't believe in? You're still nutty as a fruitcake, and probably a Muslim or libertarian nut to boot. You have singularly failed to produce one piece of biblical text advocating a specific form of violence that is carried out today. Your one sorry attempt amounts to an obscure passage from the Torah, which doesn't succeed on any level to meet the criteria.

Epic fail, Mukhtar.
