Washington Post: Obama Needs to “Reset” Relations w/Israel

obama and netanyahu

This is what a “smart” foreign policy looks like. Forget about resetting relations with Russia. That Soyuz rocket has flown. Even Obama’s allies at the Washington Post are suggesting that he reset relations with Israel. What’s next? Resetting relations with Canada?

The latest furor in the toxic relationship between the Obama administration and Israel erupted over a barnyard epithet directed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by a “senior administration official.” Ugly jibes between the two governments are not new: Secretary of State John F. Kerry has been on the receiving end of several from senior Israeli officials. But the crudeness of this one — Mr. Netanyahu was called “a chickens—” by someone speaking to the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, a frequent recipient of high-level White House communications — raised the question of why the Israeli leader provokes such passionate animus from an administration that coolly shrugs off insults from the likes of Vladimir Putin.

After going through the various cliches, the Washington Post ends by suggesting that “Mr. Obama would be wise to initiate a reset with Mr. Netanyahu.”

Except of course there was already an attempt at a reset early in Obama’s first term. It didn’t take because Obama and his people don’t like Israel. They don’t like Netanyahu. And they think the key to winning over the Muslim world is to be seen as anti-Israel.

That’s standard lefty dogma and it’s what led to this mess.

What the Washington Post fails to acknowledge is that Netanyahu put himself out into the wind politically quite a bit to support Obama and Kerry’s peace push. In exchange he got blamed for the collapse of talks despite Abbas’ constant obstructionism from demanding pre-talk concessions to forming a unity government with Hamas.

It’s not just that Obama Inc. fails to ever hold the PLO accountable, but that it just as reliably blames Israel.

Netanyahu risked his political future for Obama’s deal. Not only was there no deal, but he got the blame, and White House staffers are calling him a coward for doing what Obama wanted him to do.

You can’t reset this level of hostility.

Reset? Obama would have to admit he was in error. The Washington Post should know better than to tinker with the One’s mojo.

  • Gee

When you end with “Mr. Obama would be wise” you have summed up the issue in 5 words. Odumba is not wise and his advisors are not wise, they are bunch of sadistic, immature punks

    • gerry

      There gangsters,criminals,low lives.

  • Pete

Hillary & Obama reset relations with Russia.

    What possibly could go wrong?

    • Biff Henderson

And give up the regress button?

  • Hard Little Machine

Obama picked sides decades ago. He’s all in with Hamas, Iran, the PLO and soon, Assad and ISIS.

    • gerry

      ISIS is Obama’s army.

  • sydchaden

The positive side of this issue is that “enemies” of Obama seem to fare much better than “friends”, who wind up under the bus. Israel needs to untie itself from the USA during the remainder of Obama’s term. That might be dangerous, but not nearly as dangerous as having Obama at Israel’s back.

  • Fed Up

You know it’s bad when the DC paper of record for the political class says Obama has F’d up relations with Israel. Israel?! Do we have a more loyal ally? Is even the “special relationship” with Britain closer than that between us and the Jewish state whose very survival we’ve rightly guaranteed since its birth? Not with force because they can and want to defend themselves but with moral and diplomatic support.

The people who really don’t ask much of us but help now and again with money and materiel the latter of which they have the singular knack of improving on every time? The ones of eternal patience who take blow after blow after blow we never would before raising their hand against their enemies?

It takes a special kind of naif and fool to muck that one up and Obama is the man of that hour.

You’re going to think this is a joke, but I’m actually quite serious.

We ought to ask God for His opinion. Simple, right?

Refer to 1 Kings 18, where Elijah calls out the priests of Baal and they have a contest to see whose God is real. (Spoiler alert: Elijah wins.) So let’s do something similar to settle the al-Aqsa/Temple Mount kerfuffle. Have an imam and a rabbi (you could even throw in a right-wing Christian minister for good measure if you want, like say John Hagee) offer up their prayers or sacrifices or whatever, and let’s see if the Almighty makes His will known… but if He doesn’t, if NOTHING AT ALL happens, then we could take that as a sign that He wants everyone to quit squabbling and learn how to share.

    • smendler

(Now here’s the funny thing: I predict none of the partisans involved will show enough faith in their positions to make this happen.)

    • AbsolutelyRight

Thanks for your “input”, you immoral “progressive” putz.

    • CowboyUp

Good luck getting hamas, fatah, islamic jihad, or hezzbolla to share anything. Whether you are serious or not, clearly your suggestion is a joke.

Comrade Obama IS the muslim Manchurian Candidate.

There’s a reason why,post-college,Comrade Hussein traveled to Pakistan,of all places. it’s not because he was a Christian. There’s a reason why Comrade Hussein was aided in getting into college by Saudi money and influence.

It’s all part of his efforts to weaken the US economically, politically, and militarily.
“once is accidental, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action.”

Comrade Obama is in bed with CAIR,Muslim Brotherhood, etc.
NO way he’s going to change his positions or feelings about Israel.

    Reset?
    How about apologise.
