Washington Post: Obama Needs to “Reset” Relations w/Israel

This is what a “smart” foreign policy looks like. Forget about resetting relations with Russia. That Soyuz rocket has flown. Even Obama’s allies at the Washington Post are suggesting that he reset relations with Israel. What’s next? Resetting relations with Canada?

The latest furor in the toxic relationship between the Obama administration and Israel erupted over a barnyard epithet directed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by a “senior administration official.” Ugly jibes between the two governments are not new: Secretary of State John F. Kerry has been on the receiving end of several from senior Israeli officials. But the crudeness of this one — Mr. Netanyahu was called “a chickens—” by someone speaking to the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, a frequent recipient of high-level White House communications — raised the question of why the Israeli leader provokes such passionate animus from an administration that coolly shrugs off insults from the likes of Vladimir Putin.

After going through the various cliches, the Washington Post ends by suggesting that “Mr. Obama would be wise to initiate a reset with Mr. Netanyahu.”

Except of course there was already an attempt at a reset early in Obama’s first term. It didn’t take because Obama and his people don’t like Israel. They don’t like Netanyahu. And they think the key to winning over the Muslim world is to be seen as anti-Israel.

That’s standard lefty dogma and it’s what led to this mess.

What the Washington Post fails to acknowledge is that Netanyahu put himself out into the wind politically quite a bit to support Obama and Kerry’s peace push. In exchange he got blamed for the collapse of talks despite Abbas’ constant obstructionism from demanding pre-talk concessions to forming a unity government with Hamas.

It’s not just that Obama Inc. fails to ever hold the PLO accountable, but that it just as reliably blames Israel.

Netanyahu risked his political future for Obama’s deal. Not only was there no deal, but he got the blame, and White House staffers are calling him a coward for doing what Obama wanted him to do.

You can’t reset this level of hostility.
