Actually, I've listened to Robert Pratt on many occasions though I wouldn't consider myself a regular listener--he's very good conservative & a good spokesman for conservatism.
Cornyn is, frankly, a RINO--I voted against him in the primary & refused to vote for him in the general. Can't say if I would have refused to vote for him in a close election when there would have a been a real chance at a Democrat. But when he threw in with the Washington establishment & started back stabbing Cruz that was it for me.

Oh, I agree. Some tort reform is better than none. My question is how much did Perry have to do with that, other than sign the bill into law?

As long as Joe Straus controls our legislative sessions, we are going to deal with gridlock in Austin. Monkey Wrenches R Us for the conservative agenda. What is the idea behind electing a majority Republican legislature and having essentially a Democrat ruling the roost?

I'm ashamed to admit, I follow TX politics in fits and starts. We have an excellent, staunch conservative, commentator nearby who is deeply entrenched in the minutiae of state politics. A former GOP county chairman, he's a pitbull. www.prattontexas.com

Frankly I don't quite grasp how Straus keeps being reelected speaker of a majority "conservative" body, when he himself is obviously quite progressive. We may have as big a percentage of RINOs in Austin as those we send to DC.

Cornyn damn sure played his cards close to the vest for years, until he got through his most recent primary. Now it looks like he's set to be the anti-Cruz. What a shame we couldn't have two TX senators cooperating toward the same goals. Makes me wonder if Cornyn has visions of grandeur... perhaps ambitions to get on the GOP VP ticket with Jeb? Who knows, but there is something strange going on there.

A lot of 'taking credit' is just staying out of the way & not trying to get in the business of picking winners or running off your wealth--like California (How do you skruw a state up that is that blessed? I follow TX politics but not so closely I'm into all the nuance & that may have been the best deal he could get. I know this much, the trial lawyers here in Texas aren't real happy about it----- & that's generally a good thing.

I like what has been happening in our state compared to the rest of the nation's economy - however how much of that Perry can genuinely take credit for is unknown at this point. He's trying, but from the speech the effort seems a little awkward..

He sure swerves from bar-ditch to bar-ditch on a lot of issues, leading me to continue wondering if he has any true, unshakable, core principles.

I wouldn't bet much on Perry being a Reagan clone. I'm thinking he'd be more like Clinton, repeatedly licking his finger and holding it up to the wind. I guess his tendency to "go Bush" will depend on who, what the elitist Repub oligarchs have to use as leverage on him. He may be fairy clean as pols go.

His ability to remain undefined is equally fortuitous and worrying.

I like a lot of what Perry says & has done here in Texas but it wasn't all that long ago he was a Democrat & I really have to wonder what his epiphany or "come to Ayn Rand" moment was--& more importantly, how sincere it is.
This state is about as red as they get & I truly hope if Perry does go on to become President he doesn't "go Bush" on us & start reaching across the aisle, working with Democrats on common ground issues blah blah blah--you know the drill--basically becoming another useful !diot for the left. .
We need a fire breathing conservative who takes no shytt from the Democrats or the RINO's, is willing to use his Pen & Phone to start undoing the mess the feds have made under Obama & start demanding from the GOP a willingness to carry a few their own out on their shields in a legislative effort to dramatically cut the size, scope & reach of the feds in much the same way the Democrats did in getting ObamaCare passed.
Say what you want about the Dems but they took monstrous losses to plant the demon seed that is the ACA. To cut the feds down to size the GOP is going to have to be willing to do the same.

Rick Perry isn't evil by today's political standard. He is however an empty vessel. 365 days, as he awakes, he asks himself, "Who am I today?"

Perry's attempt to cash in on Texas' roaring economic boom is rather shaky... and his own obamaesque attempts at mandating policy for the "good of the people" blew up in his face. Must have been quite a lot of fragmentation - hence the new "safety" glasses.

The kindest thing I can say is that he truly appears naive, and sadly he's probably the best opportunity Conservatives have to elbow a spot into the collective narrative.

After all, now we can see that handing the elite ruling class RINOs the reigns of power was futile. It is us against DC, and from what I have observed of Perry's MO he defers to those who make the most noise.

Just a big ole gullible Texas Aggie who haphazardly stumbled his way into a once-in-a-lifetime career, for which he is likely grossly under qualified... At least he isn't openly consulting with Lame McJohn on how to run (and lose) a Republican presidential campaign without TEA Party support.

Perry is a narcissist, RINO.

He soliloquies are but amusing afterthoughts of struggles for who took his "powers" away.

He reminds me of the first time as a child when I witnessed Superman fall to his knees in the prescence of a strange glow.

Though he was all too powerful, he realized his weakness and did all he could to both prepare and excel for and beyond that threat. He, through the eyes of mortality gained his power, quite rightfully.

Perry, on the other hand is consumed with discussions of power; who owns it and who should employ it. The resurgence of the 10th amendment as is his wont is laughable given the assault on The Republic, the assault on individual freedoms as a whole.

The argument to compartmentalism of the nation is not the cure. The cure is neither that with which government, state, municipal, nor federal wrestles sole power away from the individual. The cure is in each and every individual American to assume their God given rights, enshrined within both The Constitution and in particular within The Bill of Rights that government is the necessity created by the people as represented of the people in the sole purpose of serving the same peoples.

Perry speaks to power, power of government and this in and of itself is the issue; localization of power to an entity otherwise referred to by lay people as 'the system.'

The people are the system and the people are the government. The time has come to introduce The Republic to an alternative party of political representation. As with the dumping of tea into the harbour in protest of greater government controlt, that same political spirit lives in each and every American today, no less.

Lesser government and greater avenues of prosperity are but the bedrock solidified by our founding fathers in every word carefully crafted in nation building documents that survived to this day through every drop of blood spilt in their defence, The Constitution, The Bill of Rights.
