Obama and Kerry Pressure Israel to Leave Hamas Alone

kerry-obamaPresident Obama is seeking to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into agreeing to an immediate unconditional ceasefire. In a phone call on Sunday, Obama reportedly told the Israeli prime minister that such a ceasefire was “a strategic imperative.” Obama specifically referred to the ceasefire proposed by Secretary of State John Kerry, which Israel’s security cabinet rejected unanimously last Friday.

Israel has been willing to observe several humanitarian pauses, primarily on a unilateral basis. Hamas went along with one 24-hour pause during the first part of the weekend and then resumed its rocket firings. After Hamas proposed its own additional 24-hour pause on Sunday, which Israel was willing to accept, Hamas nevertheless kept firing its rockets.

Kerry’s proposal was inadequate to protect Israel’s security concerns. It would have left the remaining tunnels used by Hamas to infiltrate Israel in place, which Israel simply could not accept. According to a leaked draft document of the proposal that both Aljazeera and Haaretz were reported to have obtained, Kerry’s ceasefire proposal skirted the specific concerns raised by Israel about allowing the tunnels to remain intact and letting Hamas keep its weapons stockpiles. Instead, it focused on opening the border crossings, with no specific security monitoring plan in place to ensure that Hamas would not build up its military capabilities even further. It called for the “withdrawal of IDF from Gaza Strip” and the end to any “military or security targeting of each other.” With the IDF gone and no more “security targeting,” that means the tunnels and remaining rockets would stay put for Hamas’s later use.

Moreover, under the Kerry proposal, the parties would begin discussing, within 48 hours of cessation of fighting, much of the Hamas agenda:

“arrangements to secure the opening of border and non-border crossings, allow the entry of goods and people and ensure the social and economic livelihood of the Palestinian people living in Gaza, including fishing rights up to 12nm, transfer funds to Gaza for the payment of salaries for public employees, and address security issues.”

After Kerry continued his discussions in Paris with foreign ministers from two of the leading Hamas supporting countries, Turkey and Qatar, President Obama tried to put the squeeze on Prime Minister Netanyahu to effectively leave the Israeli people exposed to more rocket fire and Hamas infiltration into Israel from their remaining intact tunnels. Obama and Kerry are so eager to seek peace at any cost that they evidently did not include representatives from Egypt or even from the Palestinian Authority in the high level Paris discussions. As a result, even the Palestinian Authority is disgusted with the Obama administration. Walid Assad, one of the spokespersons of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, complained of Kerry’s “appeasement” of Qatar and Turkey.

The Obama administration’s deference to Qatar, home to a major U.S. air base, is no doubt motivated in part by all the money that Qatar has committed just recently to spend on purchasing Apache attack helicopters, Patriot missile defense batteries and anti-tank Javelin missiles. An $11 billion deal was announced on July 14th. Qatar provides support to Hamas and other jihadists threatening peace and security in the region. Apparently, the Obama administration is not worried or does not care that some of those missiles and helicopters could well find their way to the wrong hands.

As for Turkey, President Obama considers its Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to be his “personal friend.” Obama’s buddy is the same guy who just a few days ago said that “You can see what Israel does to Palestine, to Gaza right now, surpasses what Hitler did to them. We do not accept this persecution, the massacre, the genocide by Israel.” Obama let this scurrilous remark pass without a word of rebuke in defense of America’s closest ally in the Middle East. And it comes from the leader of the same country that committed genocide against the Armenians and has illegally invaded and occupied northern Cyprus.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IHH) is planning another effort to break Israel’s lawful sea blockade of Gaza. The last one back in 2010 led to a violent confrontation with the Israeli Defense Force. This time, according to the IHH, it will have the protection of the Turkish navy.

While Obama was on the phone Sunday pressuring Israel’s leader to cave in to the demands of Hamas’s Turkish and Qatari protectors, Hamas’s political leader Khaled Meshaal, living in luxury in Qatar, received a phone call of assurance on Sunday from Hamas’s main arms supplier, Iran. Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran’s National Security Council, is reported to have told Meshaal not to worry about depleting Hamas’s stockpile of weapons. More will be on the way.

DebkaFile has advanced a very plausible theory as to why Obama and Kerry are tilting towards the Qatar-Turkey axis, which is trying to protect Hamas’s ability to live and fight another day. At the same time, Obama and Kerry are tilting against the Israel-Egypt-Saudi Arabia triumvirate, who are united in their resolve to severely curtail the threat that Hamas poses in the region once and for all. It is all about Iran. According to DebkaFile’s analysis:

“So why is the Obama administration shoving this powerful coalition out of his way and building a rival alliance to counter it?

Its primary motive is fear that if this group is allowed to make the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip a success, it will become the springboard for its next move, a victorious assault on Iran.

This sequence of events would totally derail current US Middle East policy, which hinges on détente with Tehran, Obama’s advisers warn him, and even jeopardize his strategy for bringing the nuclear negotiations between the six world powers and Iran to a successful conclusion.”

The Obama administration just last week agreed to a four month extension of the negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. It does not want anything to possibly get in its way of making a deal with Iran.

If Prime Minister Netanyahu does not give in to the Obama administration pressure, it is quite possible that the administration will back a UN Security Council resolution proposed by Jordan directing that there be an unconditional immediate ceasefire and that the border crossings be opened. Israel will then be forced to choose between doing what it has to do to protect its citizens and bowing to the so-called “international community’s” edict. The Jewish state has no choice but to follow its own course for its survival.

Hey John Kerry, I got a joke for you!

What do Heinz and Islam have on common?

They both offer 57 varieties of sh*t!

    Bye, wanker!

  • steelraptor from Saturn

Well said Klein. Thing is we need to look further down the road, to more Israeli independence from the US, including independence from US military hardware and parts.

    • kasandra

Well, the Obama regime has already thrown Egypt back into Russia’s arms after 40+ years of bipartisan U.S. foreign policy that weaned Egypt away from Russia so maybe forcing Israel into a position where it has to ally with Russia or China is not outside of the regime’s goals. By disengaging with Israel, the thinking would go, we’d be aligning ourselves with the “International Community” (i.e., the UN) and we’d have blissful relations with the Muslim world. Maybe that’s far-fetched but I wouldn’t put anything past the Obama administration.

      • Rod

Hmmm. I have a feeling that “blissful relations with the Muslim world” would bring anything but bliss.

        • kasandra

Well, I think that’s Obama’s dream. Just look at his Ahab-like pursuit of Iran no matter what the cost.

  • Mickey Oberman

    What incredible hutzpah!
Hamas is doing everything in its power to annihilate Israel and murder all its people.
Now Hamas’ two greatest admirers Obama and Kerry tell Israel to be nice to Hamas.
It is obvious that O. and K. are not friends or allies of Israel.
They have mutated into its deadliest of enemies.
They are not OK. They are lethal poison.
    Mickey Oberman

    • Rod

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to be considered one of Israel’s “deadliest enemies.”

It does explain, though, why the Egyptians ran Kerry through a metal detector. Our allies are starting to wonder….

    • IslamDownpressesHumanity

The 0 regime is an enemy to the free world. You don’t support and fund the spread of islamic-fascism on the one hand and then claim you support freedom and democracy on the other.

  • BMS

Obama is such a disgrace, not only as a President but as a true hater of Israel. He is a true Muslim Brotherhood friend and supporter. If he stood up for Israel and told the Western world that we behind Israel 100%, Israel could get rid of the tunnels, the weapons, and the threats that it faces daily. It can finish the job it has started. Why are Obama and Kerry turning to Turkey and Quatar, Hamas supporters and Israel-haters? Does Obama not have a backbone with regard to ANYTHING or is his goal the destruction of the Jewish State? He clearly has become bosom buddies with every extremist group in the world.

    • kasandra

I think you’ve answered your own question.

Under the guise of protecting the Jewish state “from destruction” Israel periodically and systematically massacre thousands of Gazan civilians without any evidence of even a grain of consideration for the loss of innocent lives and the sufferings and great destruction it causes. They have completely forgotten the holocaust when they were the victims. They are behaving like the Nazis did where they have no reservation about killing tens and hundreds of other people including women and children to target a person of interest and destroying buildings, homes, mosques and schools in the process including utilities. There’s not a shred of compassion for “them” as we want to protect “us”. How many Israel’s civilians have been killed or how much destruction has Hamas caused. It’s miniscule compared to the destruction and havoc that Isarel has brought on Gaza. These are people just like you and me and try to imagine if you are in their positon. That’s the acid test. These people have been under blockade for so long and the sufferings they must be going through for months and years to come rebuilding with what little resources they have and mourning their losses only for the cycle to start again. Of course you heartless people don’t care as it’s “them not us”.

      • Jayna

Oh, I’m not heartless…not ONE TIME did you mention Hamas. That’s God’s land. Enough said.

The Gaza invasion was a mistake. It has cost too many IDF lives. The quick solution would have been, and still is, to cut off Gaza’s water supply, which comes from Israel. The Gazans couldn’t last a week, and would have to surrender. If the world screamed, so be it. If the UN tried to do anything, Israel could threaten to blow up the pumping stations, thereby permanently making Gaza uninhabitable. And any country contemplating a violent act against Israel should be reminded that Israel has nukes and delibery capability.

    • StanleyT

Not just water. Israel also provides all of Gaza’s electricity. What’s more, when a Hamas rocket took down a power line near Ashkelon and 70,000 Gazans were in the dark, Israel sent crews to fix it – under rocket fire. Israel is also still sending tons of food, medicine and fuel into Gaza every single day – and Hamas is shelling the border crossing where all this material is coming in.

So why doesn’t Israel just do the logical thing and cut off all supplies, of all kinds? I think because that really would be “collective punishment”. It would affect every single man, woman and child in Gaza. Instead, Israel is risking the live of its own soldiers to minimize the loss of life in Gaza. Attacks are called off when there are too many civilians in the area. Pinpoint ground attacks are used instead of aerial bombardment, because they can reduce the collateral damage.

To put it simply, Israel values the lives of the people of Gaza more than Hamas does. And yet the world still screams at Israel.

      • Contemptuous Maximus

I have seen a suggestion that Israel connect the power lines and the water lines together. Not a bad idea. Might teach the Arabs something about responsible voting.

        • Johnnie the Jew

And good “environmental” management of important life preserving resources! Unlike the current recipients of magnanimous Israeli, life respecting gratitude.

        • Mickey Oberman

          At last!
          A good laugh.
          Electrifting!
          Stunning!

      • Rod

The world screams at Israel because the President of the U.S. refuses to stand with Israel. And by refusing to speak in Israel’s defense he lends credence to the propaganda efforts of Hamas.

The U.S. might consider Israel an ally, but whether that’s true of Obama has been an open question that appears to now be being answered.

  • Jane Wegener

The radical left wing (democrats) in the current administration and congress especially Obama are pro Muslim including The Muslim Brotherhood which is a terrorist group. He has embraced many muslims as advisors into his administration. So of course Kerry and Obama support HAMAS even thought they pretend to back Israel. Anyone who is NOT part of the Obama CULT can see this which is proven by their actions. DO NOT LISTEN TO WHAT OBAMA SAYS BUT WATCH WHAT HE DOES.

    • AttMore

      Amen!!!…

    • Evermyrtle

I believe that he did tell the truth once when if it comes to choosing sides he would choose Muslim, not Americans. I believe that is the truth because he is choosing Muslin against the American people every day.

      • johnnywood

        Because he is one.

  • Jane Wegener

I am not sure how Communists and Muslims get along but they seem to be joining together as most democrats who lean communist are embracing muslim radicals. So what does this mean for the people who LOVE AMERICA.

    • Mickey Oberman

Communists, Muslims, Fascists, Paedophiles, Mendicants, Jihadists, Nazis, Terrorists and so on.
      They are all the same.
Disgusting, freakish mutants of the human species.

  • Danny

In 2005, in an almost inconceivable act of unilateral good faith, Israel expelled it’s own Jewish settlers from Gaza. In return, the elected party of Gaza, (Hamas) showed its gratitude to Israel by first destroying anything that Israel had built in Gaza (like numerous greenhouses, for instance), so that they could show the Israel hating media how much the Palestinians were still suffering after Israel withdrew from the region. Hamas also began lobbing thousands of rockets into Israel. So what Israel has been doing, whenever the rocket attacks became frequent, are campaigns of precision bombing attacks, meant to destroy tunnels and rocket launching sites. It’s been Hamas’s policy to keep those rocket installations hidden in schools and hospitals, So as to maximize Palestinian casualties, in order to allow Hamas to whine to the media (which is already on Hamas’s side) that Israel bombs civilians. The media, which is so slavishly on the side of the Islamists, has bought that narrative whole cloth. What is Israel to do? In my opinion, since there is nothing Israel can do to persuade the media about the justice of their cause AND not commit national suicide, then the only thing Israel can do is act according to its best interests, and to me, that means taking back
Gaza, and expel all of the Palestinians who live there The Palestinians have proven conclusively that they did not and do not deserve Gaza.

    • Evermyrtle

I remember, the had to drag out some of their people by force, all for peace, but where is the peace?

Jeremiah 6:14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter slightly, saying, Peace peace; when there is no peace.

  • Doc

Israel must finish them off or they will back at it in less then a year

  • Lanna

These two pukes will answer to God…the time for judgement will come to them for betraying Israel…it is an absolute certainty!

” on Sunday, Obama reportedly told the Israeli prime minister that such a ceasefire was “a strategic imperative.” ”

In military science what do we have? Tactics, Operational art and strategy.

So if it is strategic, Obama should be able to define explicitly down to a gnat’s azz.

I think the only “imperative” is to save the azz of the Muslim Brotherhood offshoot, Hams, whom he so admires.

  • Gee

The US State Department called Netanyahu a liar (he had said nothing) about the proposal that Israel rejected. Abbas has called Kerry and Odumba liars because they stated that the proposal was exactly what the media has claimed.

Very strange that the PA has turned on it’s greatest ally the US State Department

  • Habbgun

What we sometimes try to explain by ideology can be explained by corruption. Obama, Kerry and the Clintons are all bought off. So is the rest of the upper echelon Democratic party. The more we see them as a front for the Islamists the easier it will be to understand who they are and what they do.

    • johnnywood

They are all “fetchin` boys” for Soros and his fellow travelers.

  • http://www.GodAuthoredBible.com geneww1938

If these Muslim loving, anti-Americans would only read and side with the Bible instead of the Koran they would rush to support Israel or just leave the entire region alone.

  • http://oddhammer.com/tutorials/debt_clock/US_debt_clock_dynamic.swf John Barleycorn

I hope Israel destroyed HAMAS in great detail ..

  • Bert

Turkey is testing how far it can go against Israel. Israel had better warn Turkey and Obama that any Turkish attempt to break the blockade by force will be considered an act of war. This does raise the stakes but doing nothing is worse. At some point I wish Israel would explode a small nuke very high above the Middle East at midnight to light up the entire region and then say nothing. The Arabs and Obama need a quiet reminder they are playing with fire and Israel can destroy any enemy in the area if pushed too far.

    • Rod

By the time our President gets done emasculating the U.S. Military, I’m not so sure that the Israelis couldn’t take us on successfully. And given the way he’s treated them, that might soon be a scenario in their operational plans, if it’s not already.

    • IslamDownpressesHumanity

Or Israel could merely threaten to hand off nukes to Greece and Armenia along w/the means to deliver them

  • IslamDownpressesHumanity

Maybe they could get this guy to do a video for Hamas:

John Kerry has a messiah complex: he (and Obama) want to destroy Israel and re-create it in their own image. Obama wants it destroyed to please those he fondly remembers from his Islamic upbringing; in Kerry’s case it is much more complex, probably he has some need to be seen as the messiah or he wants to be the lone ranger negotiator – Kerry of Arabia – and the next peace prize winner along with notables Yasser Arafat and Barack Hussein Obama.

  • johnnywood

The Israeli government should tell Obummer and Lurch to go piss up a rope.

Wouldn’t it be easier to piss down a rope?

The day the penny dropped in Israel on Kerry and Obama

It is not that John Kerry is officially a persona non grata in Israel. But since last Friday his standing in Israel is such that all the diplomatic niceties among Israeli politicians would not be able to bridge the chasm he has created. Even if by some miracle he does come uninvited the attitude towards him would resemble what one has towards a halfwit – polite with concern for the handicapped.

With regards to Obama the attitude would be different. After all, the office of the president of the US commands respect by itself and yet it has finally dawned on the majority of Israelis that Obama is not America, and that a terrible aberration has taken place with the leadership of the country Israelis usually admire. How is it possible that Obama in effect sides with Hamas and is insisting on a cease-fire to which 86 percent of the Israelis are opposed? He is an enigma one has to acknowledge exists, but whose absurd policies they know the Israeli leadership cannot accept and which will have to be ignored if Israel is to survive.

But all in all, Israelis have come together like I have not seen for a long time. The steady flow of well wishers visiting wounded soldiers at hospitals is amazing. One has to witness it to understand the magnitude and scope. Mountains of cakes, goodies and cards attest to a deep link the population has to the soldiers fighting in Gaza. Israeli flags have popped up on buildings and cars although it is not Independence Day.

I get a feeling that Israelis are saying to the world – we are going to fight our own battles and will not listen to you for we know who we are and what we are fighting for and this time we see through your hypocrisy.

    http://www.madisdead.blogspot.co.il/2014/07/the-day-penny-dropped-in-israel-on.html

    John Kerry should resign
    http://www.madisdead.blogspot.co.il/2014/07/john-kerry-should-resign.html

Either John Kerry screwed up on his own, in which case he should resign, or this was explicit Obama policy, in which case Congress should consider impeachment.

  • USARetired

It is most pathitic when the leaders of a Nation go against the will of the people, and against our allies and friends, to support an enemy, and Congress is again sitting with both hands under their ‘hieni’s like the worthless bums they are!! Even knowing the ‘destroyer in chief’, Obama, is an illegal immigrant in this country with no legal document, will they lift a hand to remove this enemy from our Government!

  • IslamDownpressesHumanity

“whatever” the perfect characterization. I was thinking he could do a Leave Hamas alone video next.
