Why don't you "get" some learning and take some physics courses and study the genetic coding of morality. You also might study the debate between free will and determinism. Then tell me it is all nebulous.

Tired of people like Clinton parsing the definition of the word is after being caught with semen stain on a blue dress. Which BTW is not what the independent prosecutor was after. He was after White water records that were never produced, but were found on a coffee table in White House Or were they found by some Antarctic researchers taking ice cores?

Tired of people like Obama using colloquial language like "If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor PERIOD". Period means something very definite as in colloquial speech.

If Wig on want to use some definition of truth from a college philosophy book he should cite the book and page so we are all on the same page.

Cutting and pasting a definition from an online dictionary serves the same purpose as establishing definition for terms in the 1st few days of class for a field of study. It is so we are on the same page.

It's not a semantic game, regardless.

The OP was talking about meaning, were they not? The truth of a proposition about a fact is a relative matter. That an asteroid hit the earth is a fact, sure, what it means isn't. Words do usually work in multiple registers.

I can past definitions too, note especially 4, 5, and 10 all of which have more to do with judgments about facts than facts themselves:

truth (truːθ)

— n
1. the quality of being true, genuine, actual, or factual: the truth of his statement was attested
2. something that is true as opposed to false: you did not tell me the truth
3. a proven or verified principle or statement; fact: the truths of astronomy
4. ( usually plural ) a system of concepts purporting to represent some aspect of the world: the truths of ancient religions
5. fidelity to a required standard or law
6. faithful reproduction or portrayal: the truth of a portrait
7. an obvious fact; truism; platitude
8. honesty, reliability, or veracity: the truth of her nature
9. accuracy, as in the setting, adjustment, or position of something, such as a mechanical instrument
10. the state or quality of being faithful; allegiance

Nothing wrong with helping people in need. But your use of the phrase to "take care of our fellow citizens" betrays the left's true agenda -- control over the lives of the masses.
When you have welfare dependency handed down from generation to generation, that's not helping people. That's enabling irresponsibility and laziness.
Nothing wrong with protecting the environment. But the goal of the radical environmental movement is the destruction of capitalism and the US economy.
The left employs a similar tactic to the one the Klan employed in their recruitment drive in the 1920s. The Klan did not advertise itself as a racist, violent organization. It advertised itself as a patriotic Christian organization.
Just as the Klan used patriotism and Christianity to mask its true agenda, so the left today uses "social justice" and the environment to mask its true agenda --the destruction of individual liberty and private enterprise.

I've gone to college also. We can play semantic games all day long. Would not that be cute?

In mathematic, philosophy or engineering, the 1st day or so is defining terms as they are used in that field of study. That is right and meet.

Now if I used some of those terms with their technical meaning in everyday conversation instead or the common meaning, I would be talking past people.

The type of people who would make a great distinction between truth and fact in a general forum are the same one's with a chip on their shoulders, etc.

truth (truːθ) —n: 1. the quality of being true, genuine, actual, or factual: the truth of his statement was attested: 2. something that is true as opposed to false: you did not tell me the truth

I stopped reading after the first paragraph when the writer identified Syracuse as 'taxpayer funded.' It's actually a private institution and is not directly funded by state funds. Certainly the university (or its faculty) may be the recipient of federal or state grants, but it is not 'taxpayer supported' a term often equated with public institutions. Writer needs to probably do a little more research than reacting.

"A little-known consortium of radical groups, public-funded universities and the federal government is quietly seeking to transform the arts and other academic disciplines into vehicles of left-wing extremism and indoctrination"

I'm not sure I understand that statement. The "arts" have been involved in the leftist indoctrination side of the libcult effort for decades, so that is nothing new. I think what the article means to imply is that those loosely affiliated individual efforts will now be organized and centrally directed and the messaging more carefully coordinated by hard-core libcult operatives working from within the government itself.
Drak, you know I didn’t vote for Obama either time. Sure I know it makes you feel inferior as an American fighting man that you can’t use your best weapons to defeat our nation’s enemies, but that doesn’t mean you can torture your prisoners and besmirch the good name and proud tradition of the United Staters of America.

If the world knew that we are perfectly wiling to use our best weapons when anyone threatens our national security, no one with a sane mind would ever threaten us, and you would never have to worry about torturing your prisoners. Instead of torturing your prisoners, you’d be going after their bosses, and with the right kind of weapons in your hands, no one could stop you or the United States Marine Corps, and any war anyone was foolish enough to start against us would be over in a matter of days, or weeks, or months at the very most. The bottom line is that the corrupt politicos in Washington DC have been handcuffing and hamstringing the Armed Forces of the United States since the end of WWII. George Patton and Douglas MacArthur were the last two American generals who really knew how to fight a war, and they’re long gone; but don’t despair.

It has been said that free men are the most dangerous fighting force in the world. Why? Because once a man has tasted freedom, he’d rather die than submit to any tyrant. The spirit of freedom is alive and well in America, and It’s not you and the rest of America's fighting men who don’t know how to win wars. And the sooner we put real weapons in your hands, the sooner the American people could rest in peace and security, and the sooner you could forget about torturing prisoners with jumper cables.

America doesn’t want you to spare our enemies and torture your prisoners. We want you to destroy our enemies and educate your prisoners about the joys of freedom and the great American way of life. Eventually even your prisoners of war will want to flee their lives of submission and slavery and fight on our side! Death to tyrants! Death to slave masters! Death to all enemies of freedom, human rights, and human dignity! And long live the United States of America!

The spirit of freedom is alive and well in America, and It’s not you and the rest of America’s fighting men who don’t know how to win wars.

Did you know that God hates evil?

Why is hating evil wrong, then?

I hate lies. I hate people using other people as tools or for personal gratification.

I make no apologies for hating that which is evil.

Zinn was against war and violence when America was involved. Wanting to take care of our fellow citizens isn't necessarily "hating America," as long as the program/vehicle that's supposed to do the caring doesn't hurt anyone, financially or otherwise. You talk about "protecting the constitutional rights" of Americans; but how does forcing someone to give up their doctor do that? How does killing someone's job do that? How does preventing America from being energy independent(which can be achieved in an environmentally friendly way), in the name of the environment, help America? There's more oil in the American West than in Saudi Arabia, yet Obama won't let us develop it. And the media never reports on the Bakken oil field. I wonder why.
