Michael Brown: A Criminal and a Thug

081514_tobin1400_video2_640-450x253As the media-sanctioned rioting, bloodshed and looting continue in Ferguson, Missouri, evidence is emerging that police shooting victim Michael Brown wasn’t the upstanding citizen that many on the Left have claimed him to be.

All of this is happening as mobs have been attacking cops with Molotov cocktails and destroying community infrastructure. Some blacks in the region are reportedly randomly assaulting non-blacks as collective payback for what happened to Brown. Looting and property destruction are rampant. Scores of people have been arrested. Aircraft were ordered to fly at least 3,000 feet over Ferguson airspace after police said their helicopters were fired on from the ground.

A curfew was imposed, and the state’s feckless Democratic governor, Jay Nixon, stripped local police of some of their responsibilities, replacing them with state highway patrolmen. This, predictably, led to more looting of stores and all the things that usually happen when an angry, violent mob is rewarded for its bad behavior.

Through it all, the Left is out in force in Ferguson, trying to make a bad situation worse. The criminal elements of the city have been emboldened by martyrized accounts of Brown, and have carried out a campaign of destruction against the civil order under the banner of “no justice, no peace.”

As happened in the Trayvon Martin case two years ago, the hulking, nearly 300-lbs. Brown has been portrayed as an innocent doe-eyed angel unfairly cut down by evil police as a promising future awaited him. In Brown’s case, he was said to be just days away from heading off to college.

But as one blogger observed, in this age of ubiquitous social media, the 18-year-old African-American man left behind,

“a cache of rap songs … that contain pretty much what you’d expect out of modern rap – lots of boasting about murdering, taking drugs, drinking, and sex with hos.”

In one of them labeled “Free$tyle Big’Mike,” one performer raps, “My favorite part’s when they bodies hit the ground. I soak ‘em up like I’m wringin’ out a sponge.”

The fact that Brown liked performing thug music obviously doesn’t by itself make him a thug, but it does provide insight into his state of mind. The same can be said for the photographs that have surfaced of Brown posing like a tough guy, making gestures with his hands that some say are gang signs.

But what Brown did before he was killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, whose home and address were publicized by a reporter despite ceaseless death threats against the officer, offers compelling insight into what made Brown tick.

Evidence is now available that shows that Brown tried to wrest a gun away from a policeman and that he was ordered to freeze before he charged Darren Wilson and was shot. Some have suggested Brown was high on drugs at the time and that made him especially aggressive but a toxicology report on his body won’t be available for weeks.

Before the shooting incident last weekend, Brown used violence and the threat of more violence to steal. With an accomplice, he knocked over a convenience store, bullying victims with his prodigious size and weight. (Incidentally, the owner of the store told the Washington Post he fears that his customers will murder him and that he begged reporters not to suggest that he called the police on Brown.)

An official incident report about the robbery was released Friday by Ferguson police, over the vehement but ultimately groundless objections of left-wing politicians, including the Missouri governor and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. History shows that leftist office holders aren’t too concerned about getting to the bottom of a matter when their supporters are in the streets calling for blood. If the documentation in question helped make the case that the local police were cold-blooded, murdering racists, those same politicians would be loudly demanding its release.

The report in question identifies Brown and his 22-year-old friend Darren Johnson as suspects in the Aug. 9 robbery that took place minutes before Brown’s death.

According to the report, police responded to a call about “stealing in progress” at a convenience store. The stolen item was a $48.99 box of Swisher Sweets cigars.  Marijuana users are known to hollow out such cigars and use them to smoke drugs.

A man identified as Brown was captured in store surveillance stills having a physical confrontation with a much smaller store employee who tried to lock the doors of the establishment to prevent the men from departing with the stolen item.

The 6’ 4”, 292-pound Brown took the employee by his shirt and pushed him back into some merchandise. As Brown moved toward the door, he then turned around and moved toward the worker “appearing to intimidate him.” After that Brown disappears from the camera footage.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson made the video of the robbery available Friday, explaining that state law forced him to act. Reporters had demanded the footage under the Freedom of Information Act, Jackson said.

The Obama administration sought to suppress the release of the inconvenient footage by pressuring the department not to release it to the public. Pandering for votes, Gov. Jay Nixon said Sunday he “deeply” disagreed with the decision by Ferguson police to release the robbery video.

The recording was made public “Number one to attempt in essence to disparage the character [of Brown] in the middle of a process like this is not right,” Nixon said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

So, first local police were condemned for not being sufficiently transparent; then after they released a key piece of evidence they were condemned for being too transparent.

Gov. Nixon then claimed that releasing the video was too painful for his constituents. “And secondarily it did put the community and, quite frankly, the region and the nation on alert again,” he said.

Of the week-old case, Nixon said, “These are old wounds, these are deep wounds in these communities and that action was not helpful.” Of course, by the governor’s reasoning the local police have no right to make the case that they are not murderers while they are being indicted by the frenzied Ferguson community, media and political Left.

Gov. Nixon again pushed emotional buttons, playing to the mob. “When you see your son gunned down in the street and then you see a police chief begin an attempt to attack his character, that’s just not the way to operate and we’ve made that clear to everyone,” he said.

This means Nixon believes that Jesse Jackson Sr. and Al Sharpton, who have been making campaign stops in Ferguson, have every right to be heard while the local police at the heart of the case should just remain silent and take whatever abuse is hurled at them.

Sharpton, the perpetrator of the infamous Tawana Brawley hoax and a close ally of President Obama, also weighed in on the release of the video.

“Michael Brown is gone,” he said in St. Louis yesterday. “You can run whatever video you want. He is not on trial. America is on trial!”

Sharpton continued:

“I have never in all my years seen something as offensive and insulting as a police chief releasing a tape of a young man trying to smear him before we even have his funeral.”

However, the more we learn about the nature of the crime and of Brown’s character, the clearer it is to see who should really be on trial: The likes of Al Sharpton and the race-hate industry, whose lies are fueling a vicious war against civil society in Ferguson.

Meanwhile, an autopsy performed by famed pathologist Dr. Michael M. Baden, former chief medical examiner for New York City, determined that Brown was not shot in the back as some have claimed. In particular, the autopsy contradicts the “eye witness” account of one left-wing media darling, Tiffany Mitchell, who claimed on MSNBC that Officer Wilson was pursuing Brown as he ran away and that Brown was shot in the back as he fled.

The autopsy report concluded that Brown was shot six times. One bullet penetrated his right eye, proceeding through his face, leaving through his jaw and then entering his collarbone. The final two shots in his head were probably the last ones fired.

Brown, who otherwise appeared to be healthy, would have died as a result of the shooting even if he had been transported immediately to a hospital, Baden said.

“People have been asking: How many times was he shot? This information could have been released on Day 1,” Baden told the New York Times after completing the private four-hour autopsy yesterday. “They don’t do that, even as feelings built up among the citizenry that there was a cover-up. We are hoping to alleviate that.”

Baden stressed that he was not assigning blame for the death or justifying what was done the day of Brown’s death.

But Benjamin L. Crump, an attorney for Brown’s family, tried to use the new forensic evidence to bolster the case that the young man was a victim of police brutality.

“The sheer number of bullets and the way they were scattered all over his body showed this police officer had a brazen disregard for the very people he was supposed to protect in that community,” Crump said. “We want to make sure people understand what this case is about: This case is about a police officer executing a young unarmed man in broad daylight.”

Of course the fact that a suspect was shot repeatedly and all over his body doesn’t necessarily demonstrate “brazen disregard” or that the individual was summarily executed by a police officer. It more likely indicates that the shooter, rightly or wrongly, believed that the suspect posed a danger to his life. And the fact that a suspect was “unarmed” doesn’t necessarily have much probative value in a case in which the individual allegedly tried to gain control of a police officer’s firearm.

Crump covered travel expenses for Baden and an assistant to Missouri, retaining the two for the procedure. Baden waived his customary $10,000 fee, the newspaper reports.

This autopsy and an official county autopsy apparently aren’t enough. Now Eric Holder’s spokesman says the “extraordinary circumstances” — whatever those may be — require that a federal autopsy be conducted. Forty FBI agents have also reportedly gone door-to-door in Ferguson in an attempt to gather evidence in an ongoing civil rights investigation related to the shooting.

And they’ll keep digging until they find evidence that vindicates the mob and the left-wing media and the community organizers from Chicago who have descended on Ferguson in order to make an example of the innocent people who live there.

so the police officer has good aim ..
    no?!
seriously, though, I know I do, even tho I have only shot once in 20 years.. I have an amazing arm, tho it has been feeling the effects of age these days..
i just hope all in question is answered in the end, and those who deserve it, are punished ..
and we can move on and stronger as a country, undivided ..

No sympathy for Michael Brown. Antisocial degenerate thugs like this love to be tough guys around women, teens, seniors, and people such the store clerk he pushed around. I’m sure the store clerk was unarmed. I’m sure others he has bullied were either outnumbered or unarmed. Good riddance Michael Brown you worthless chimp. I say you want to fix this problem… cut their welfare off. Make them do work for the state such as clean parks, clean graffiti, and be crossing guards for small children in their communities if they would like to still collect welfare. If they have children make sure they maintain a studious average and record attendance or cut them off. I’m sure there attitudes would change if they were required to be responsible citizens or starve.

My heart goes out to the police officer as he waits for this mess to be over.

  • Tj Long

That store clerk must have been, like, “Look at you face down in the street. Who’s your daddy now, bitch!”

  • Ray Houghton

Give me the Facts, just the Facts! Officer Wilson confronted Brown and friend for walking down the middle of the road. As Wilson drove up and attempted to get out of his cruiser, Brown pushed the officer back in the car, punched him and lacerated his eye, causing a hemorrhage. Brown and friend started to walk away, and after 35 feet Wilson shouted ‘freeze’. Brown turned and not listening, rushed Wilson. Don’t forget Brown is some 300 lbs and stood 6’4″ – hard to stop! Wilson fired his weapon and Brown kept coming, so he fired more rounds and the man died. First mistake Brown made – hit and attacked a Law Enforcement Officer when told to follow with he law. Second mistake – not freezing when told to by a Law Enforcement Officer, but rushing at him. End of Story people – just The Facts!

BTW, how do shop keepers earn any money in that neighborhood? There must be a ton of shoplifting. How do they make any profits? I really feel sorry for them, trying to make a living with all the thieves. On top of that, they have been looted in the past week and had their stores burn to the ground and destroyed. Is that fair?
How many times has Mr. Brown done this sort of thing, then pushed the little shopkeepers aside like rag dolls? Why don’t fatty Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and Eric Holder make note of the daily injustice against the business people? Oh, that’s right, it doesn’t go with their agenda.

    • https://profiles.google.com/BobMunck/about Bob Munck

There must be a ton of shoplifting. … How many times has Mr. Brown done this sort of thing

You just can’t stop showing yourself, can you?

      • Holy Jobs

shoplifting is very common in convenience store.

Why are black people allowed to shoot and kill alot of white people and that is ok?

  • alissa

The thing is, ok, Michael Brown did wrong, treated the store clerk like garbage and had no business robbing anything or anyone. BUT..he should be in jail for this, not on a slab in a morgue. He could have gone to jail and paid for what he did and in 20 years maybe he would have said to himself “What an idiot I was when I was young!” Alot of people get the opportunity to grow up and change their ways without being killed!

  • DonaldTheWhiteMan

Matthew Vadum, you are a perfect example of everything that is wrong with journalism. You couldn’t even watch a surveillance video that shows Brown PAYING for his cigars. The store owner didn’t even call the cops because there was no robbery, just two people pushing each other. Please just kill yourself you racist failure of a writer.

    I’m 100% white.

    • Remember

Go beat yourself at the next “white privilege conference.” You wouldn’t know the truth if it bit you, pathetic anti-white scum.

What I don’t understand is… WHY….. WHY would an officer kill someone for no reason?! What does he have to GAIN by it?…. The answer is NOTHING!! No officer wants to shot someone even if the perpetrator was armed to the teeth! It’s not because it “creates more paper work”. Every Officer involved in a shooting by law must be investigated…. HE KNOWS THIS… well before he even thinks of pulling his gun out. He also knows that even if he ends up using deadly force, he has to live with it for the rest of his life…. and nobody wants that whether it’s justified or not. This is why I myself could never be an officer of the law. As an imperfect human that is required to make snap judgments in intense situations as they arise, NO ONE is free of mistakes including police officers. With that said… who is left to do the job, a robot? I’m sorry but, if you attack an officer unarmed or not, common sense tells you…. you’re gonna get hurt, whether you’re tazed or shot. Foolishness will get you hurt or killed almost EVERY TIME! Don’t live the thug live, maybe you’ll get to keep it longer.

    • Jon

Well said. I wouldn’t want to make those decisions either. If they did use robots and the robot killed Brown, they would say the robot did it because he was “programmed by a white guy”!

    • https://profiles.google.com/BobMunck/about Bob Munck

WHY would an officer kill someone for no reason?!

Maybe they talked back. Maybe they didn’t obey his order. We don’t know anything yet.

What does he have to GAIN by it?.

Self-respect; self-image; feeling of power; feeling of superiority.

NO ONE is free of mistakes including police officers.

Six shots is NOT a mistake.

if you attack an officer unarmed or not

We don’t know if he did.

  • Fairness for all

So I guess we (tax payers) should just rebuild the town and give the residents a couple of million dollars…
And why is the law not being enforced? Really this punk was a bully the same bully that we tell our kids not to be like yet the whitehouse decides to encourage the behavior. Does the whitehouse send representation to the officers that are killed funerals?

  • Remember

Michael Brown had a long rap sheet. Thug for sure.

  • jacquesdaspy

Michael Brown’s behavior was African and not American. Both are a choice although the choice is often influenced by the community. Perhaps he learned thuggery in high school? Did his high school offer a course or did he have to go to Chicago? It would be interesting to see his transcript.

Perhaps his father was involved in his life, a situation that has been uncommon in the past fifty years. Was it a government program? I read that he was looking forward to a trade school education? Does the trade school have the courses necessary to pursue a successful career in crime. It seems that most black teenagers in that career are losers, or at least they have lost the opportunity to pursue additional opertunities while serving time.

The WAPO reported that Mister Brown was ‘college bound’ and makes it sound like the police officer involved just singled him out for no reason. Luckily the internet filters the news now. Here’s some background on Mister Brown…….

This is going to be another Travon case as most Libs and blacks are not going to like the outcome.
The new Racial poster boy Michael R Brown has felonies pending in Court. Yes, that guy who was on his way to college was arrested and charged with Burglary, Armed criminal action, assault with the intent to do great bodily harm, and again armed criminal action all stemming from one incident. He was going to court in Sept. I thought he was supposed to go to college in Sept??
You can look all this up yourself (https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet ). Do your search in St. Louis County in 2014; you’ll find him.

Whenever Al Sharpton, Jesse and Obama chime in, it winds up being another Tawana Brawley case. They destroyed Zimmerman and they will destroy this officer as well even though it most likely will be found he was justified…
According to Casenet, this unarmed teen has been charged with:
    Description: Burglary – 1st Degree { Felony B RSMo: 569.160 }
    Date: 11/02/2013 Code: 1401000

Does anyone remember Detective Melvin Santiago? He was a Jersey City police officer who was shot to death just a month ago, on July 13th. Santiago was white. His killer, Lawrence Campbell, was black. Does anyone recall Obama appearing before national television and calling for justice for Officer Santiago’s family? Does anyone recall Eric Holder rushing to Jersey City to see that justice was done?
How about Officer Jeffrey Westerfield. He was a Gary, Indiana police officer who was shot to death last month on July 6th. Westerfield was white. His killer, Carl LeEllis Blount, Jr. was black. Where was Obama? Where was Holder?
Or Officer Perry Renn? He was an Indianapolis, Indiana police officer who was shot to death just last month on July 5th, the day before Officer Westerfield was killed. Officer Renn was white. His killer, Major Davis, was black. I don’t recall any mention by Obama about the untimely death of Officer Renn. And, I doubt that Eric Holder rushed to Indianapolis to make sure justice was done. Or, maybe I just missed it.
Vermillion Parish Deputy Sheriff Allen Bares was gunned down by two men just last June 23rd in Louisiana. Deputy Bares was white. His two killers, Quintlan Richard and Baylon Taylor, were black. Was Obama outraged? Did Eric Holder rush to Louisiana to make sure that the family of Deputy Bares found justice?
Detective Charles Dinwiddie of the Killeen Police Department was murdered by Marvin Lewis Guy, a black male. Officer Dinwiddie was white. This happened on May 11th, just over two months ago. I don’t even recall seeing anything about that on the news. Certainly, the white citizens in Killeen didn’t take to the streets to loot and burn businesses. Again, I don’t recall any mention by Obama or Holder.
Then, there is Officer Kevin Jordan of the Griffin, Georgia Police Department. He was gunned down just two months ago on May 31st. Officer Jordan was black. His killer, Michael Bowman, was white. This was a white man murdering a black police officer. Where was Jesse Jackson? Where was “The Reverend” Al Sharpton? Was there looting and burning on the streets of Griffin, Georgia? No. In fact, I don’t recall hearing about this one in the news, as well. Why? You can draw your own conclusions.
Over the past 60 days, there have been five reported deaths of police officers by gunshot in the US. Of those, four were white officers who were murdered by black men. Blacks complain that white officers treat black men more aggressively on the street. You can draw your own conclusions on that one, as well.

    • frodo

Det Santiago’s murderer was killed in the exchange of fire. A man has been arrested in your second example. And so forth.

Apples and oranges. You can find a long list of examples of unarmed African-Americans killed by police officers for no good reason who do not get charged with any wrongdoing. It’s rare enough that its news when it DOES happen as in a story in Texas just recently.

The way he man-handled the store clerk says ist all …. that was an assault right there in the camera and people still take up for him. It shows that he is physically violent which backs up the officers account of events.
Sure, he was such an Angel and his Momma who has a different name from his Daddy is all over the news …… all the while he was living with Grandma ….

Bottom line: The black community is going to be in conflict with the police for the forseeable future because blacks are over represented, usually vastly over represented in every single violent offender category in the FBI UCR. It’s been that way for decades and it’s not going to change anytime soon. When you are 13% of the population and committing over 50% of the robberies and about 50% of the murders year after year after year you are going to come into a lot of conflict with the police. Source for the above claims is the FBI UCR table 43 any year you want to pick.

Most normal people, when they see things get out of control decide to leave when they see police ordering them to go home. I think most of us were raised that way. Watching the protesters as the cameras rolled, dancing around, lewd gestures, wearing a shirt that said Brown was surrendering makes me wonder. Will Brown’s accomplice who said Brown was shot in the back, be charged with “inciting a riot” if it is proved he lied?

  • Fiona1933

“Marijuana users” just listen to how you express yourself. Try and be a little more educated…you are presenting the smoking of dope as likely to cause violence. It is alcohol that does that. How often do you drink a glass of wine, or have some beers with your buddies? “Alcohol users are known to use glass containers to consume their drugs”. See how ridiculous you are? Dope makes people sleepy and peaceful. Plus, you are implying that his size and colour were somehow a crime. Even if he had knocked that store clerk to the ground, that is not a capital offence. Police officers should be able to stop people with the authority of their voices alone. British police officers, unarmed, chase known gun-toting criminals right into the heart of Moss Side. American police execute SWAT raids on people for smoking a little dope at home. They are cowards.
This case isnt settled. You are ignoring the eye-witness reports entirely. And anyway, it doesnt really matter if this particular cop was innocent. There re so many other times they havent been. But of course, its very very important Darren Wilson gets due process (which it is)…not so important for Michael Brown.
