Terror in Canada

michael-zehalf-bibeauThe nation of Canada is reeling today from a brutal terrorist attack in the capital city of Ottawa that claimed the life of Canadian reservist Nathan Cirillo. The attacker has been identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a 32-year-old convert to Islam, who was killed by authorities as he opened fire inside the Canadian Parliament. The incident comes just two days after two Canadian soldiers were deliberately struck by a speeding vehicle driven by another Islamic convert, leaving one soldier dead. The twin attacks have demonstrated that even the unassuming nation of Canada is not immune to the threat of Islamic terrorism, which once again has been allowed to flourish under a lax regime of global leadership.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Zehaf-Bibeau, using a keffiyeh to cover his face and brandishing a long-barreled rifle, approached the Canadian National War Memorial, dedicated to the memory of Canadian soldiers who have lost their lives in defense of their country. Clp. Cirillo was standing watch at the Tomb of the Unknown solider when he was shot in the abdomen by Zehaf-Bibeau at point-blank range. Zehaf-Bibeau then ran into the Canadian Parliament, where he was killed following a shoot-out with authorities.

Cpl. Cirillo, a 24-year-old father, was rushed to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. A parliamentary guard sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the attack and is said to be recovering.

Warning signs for Canadians have abounded in recent weeks. In early October, reports broke that an ISIS-connected terrorist plot, allegedly targeting a shopping mall and the U.S. embassy in Ottawa, had been thwarted by authorities. A day before the public learned of the attack, Canadian intelligence and security agencies briefed Canadian lawmakers on the threat of Islamic radicalism growing inside the country. However, while officials ultimately downplayed the idea that an attack was imminent, less than a week ago the government quietly raised the domestic terrorism threat level to medium for the first time in four years.

“This week’s events are a grim reminder that Canada is not immune to the types of terrorist attacks we have seen elsewhere around the world,” a visibly shaken Prime Minster Stephen Harper said in a statement to the nation Wednesday. Harper vowed that the attack would lead Canada to “strengthen our resolve and redouble our efforts, and those of our national security agencies, to take all necessary steps to identify and counter threats and keep Canada safe here at home.”

Worried Canadians should not be heartened by Harper’s pronouncements given what we have learned about officals’ alleged monitoring of Zehaf-Bibeau and other like-minded terrorists embedded in Canadian society. Zehaf-Bibeau, born Michael Joseph Hall, had been known to Canadian authorities for his jihadist proclivities and potential for violence. He had recently been designated by the government as a “high-risk traveler” and had his passport seized out of fear that he was liable to commit acts of terrorism abroad. Despite a long criminal history of drug trafficking, credit-card forgery, robbery, and multiple stints in jail, Zehaf-Bibeau could not be taken off the streets.

The disconcerting facts surrounding Zehaf-Bibeau are eerily similar to those of Martin Couture-Rouleau, a.k.a. “Ahmad LeConverti” (Ahmad the Converted), the Canadian Muslim convert who ran a car into two Canadian soldiers on Monday in the Quebec city of Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, claiming the life of one of the victims. Couture-Rouleau was arrested and questioned in July when he attempted to fly out of Canada to Turkey. Couture-Rouleau’s passport had also been seized in an attempt to prevent him from traveling abroad and taking up arms with fellow Islamic terrorists.

Ninety other individuals like Zehaf-Bibeau and Couture-Rouleau are reportedly on a Royal Canadian Mounted Police watch list due to suspicion that they have or are planning to participate in militant activities abroad. At least 80 individuals present in the country are believed by Canadian intelligence to have gone overseas to participate in terrorist activities, and as many as 145 Canadians around the world are said by intelligence to be actively involved in terrorist groups.

The same is true for many Western countries. Approximately 100 individuals from the U.S. are believed by the National Counterterrorism Center to have attempted to leave the country to fight alongside ISIS jihadists. The FBI estimates that a dozen Americans are currently fighting in Iraq and Syria, while Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) reports that that some 40 U.S. citizens have been allowed re-entry into the country after fighting with ISIS. According to the Obama administration, this is their right.

“Ultimately, an American citizen, unless their passport is revoked, is entitled to come back,” FBI Director James Comey declared earlier this month. “So, someone who’s fought with ISIL, with an American passport wants to come back, we will track them very carefully.”

Yet the events in Canada of the last several days have cast doubt on the reliability of the purported “careful tracking” strategy.

“If you want to go to Syria and Iraq, please go, but never come back,” Geert Wilders told FrontPage’s Jamie Glazov on this week’s episode of The Glazov Gang. In this prophetic warning against the policy of barring known ISIS jihadists from exiting Western countries, Wilders pinpointed why Canadian soldiers like Cpl. Cirillo needlessly, and tragically, lose their lives at the hand of jihad. By refusing to allow highly “motivated” jihadists to leave, Western governments have made, in Wilders’ words, “our own streets, our own airports, our own train stations, our own malls, very dangerous places to be.”

Sorry to criticize those Canadians of Anglo WASP persuasion, but your leaders are denying fools. Just because you are not Jews nor Kurd does not mean You are not targets of hate. You are. As are your children. Acting supine to these Koranimals nor will protesting for ” palestinian rights ” protect you and your children.

  • DaCoachK

Another Muslim kills in the name of Allah, not that there is anything terrorist about that.

  • tagalog

“Ultimately, an American citizen, unless their passport is revoked, is entitled to come back,” FBI Director James Comey declared earlier this month. “So, someone who’s fought with ISIL, with an American passport wants to come back, we will track them very carefully.”

Why not just revoke their dang passports? This isn’t rocket science. Seems pretty obvious that we might want to keep American citizens who want to make war on the United States out of the United States.

Maybe I’m just not nuanced enough.

    • Dan Knight

Good point Tagalog. Sarcasm aside, you know what’s going on. You’re one of the best posters on this site. You know – the Leftist hate-lovers love their terrorists and hate our freedom-fighters.

When Jeremy Woodard returns, I doubt he will be assaulted, arrested, tried, or sent to the ICC because of the media spotlight. His personal decision to go fight the child raping garbage is all too obvious.

But what of the next guy or the next. If more than a few go, they will probably return to the same treatment as the Blackwater contractors. And they will go into the history books as JOINING IS, ISIS/ISIL to commit atrocities.

We know this because it’s happened before. Long before Bergdahl Lee Harvey Oswald was allowed to return after playing defector for 2 years. So, this is an old problem.

I expect the rapists and criminals will continue to get a free pass until the Leftists are imprisoned. Meanwhile, anyone who fights for the anti-rape / anti-murder side will be facing serious charges, absent a strong media spotlight to shield them.

    MORE WORKPLACE VIOLENCE??

    • Squiggles

Nope. Our leader called it what it was: A terrorist attack.

Say what you will about him, at least he has cajones. Obummer could learn a few things from him.

      • steve b

        HE SURE COULD!

      • Atikva

Mr. Obama, as usual, simply “forgot” to identify the kind of terrorism that caused the death of two Canadians and the hospitalization of a third one. When the perpetrator is a hairy muslim trying to hide his face with a keffieh, it doesn’t take an Einstein to figure it out: muslim terrorism (what else, they have cornered the market) a.k.a. jihad. This is just another example of Mr. Obama’s refusal to acknowledge reality.

“Our leader”? Leaders worthy of the name don’t have to resort to fraud to gain power. And they don’t resort to playing with words when a danger threatens their countrymen, they correctly and promptly identify it and take action to destroy the threat. In other words, they do their job. Our “commander-in-chief” doesn’t.

PS: When using Spanish words, better spell them correctly (cajones are large bins. Cojones is what you meant).

        • Squiggles

Sorry, French is my second language (took Spanish many moons ago in high school). Maybe I should have used “Testicular Fortitude” instead.

I am not certain with your one comment. As far as I know, Harper did not use fraud in any shape and form. He was elected freely, and won a majority in the last election.

I am sorry for any confusion, but I am Canadian. I follow politics in both countries (and several European ones as well) and have seen the many heated articles/opinion pieces about your commander-in-chief. And more to the point, have been disgusted with his actions on the world stage and how he treats his allies.

          • Atikva

Sorry, you are right, I realized too late that you were talking about your Canadian leader. As you have noticed, we Americans are not happy with our current regime – to say the least.

          • Squiggles

At least with your system of government you are only stuck with a bad President for 4 or 8 years. A lot of damage can be done in that time – case in point Obummer. But up here, there are no term limits. A Prime Minister, given enough popularity (or stupidity), can be in office for a lot longer. See Pierre Elliott (Thank God the Bastard’s Dead) Trudeau.

          • Atikva

I didn’t know about your government system and I sympathize. But it’s not only “a lot of damage” that is being inflicted on America, it’s a deliberate effort to destroy it, and we can’t let that happen.

That what obama says, Canada got it right-islamics terrorists

  • FedUpWithWelfareStates

ISIS called out to the Lone Wolfs to attack soldiers & their families where they work & live, & they are now answering…what are we doing? Watching our country imploding by the unhindered acts of a Fool…

People throughout North-america should now become alert to the fact that
the Islam Jihad is now rapidly spreading throughout our Western World.
The terrorism that has been raging throughout most of Europe’s largest cities
during the past 3-5 years, and now more recently even in small old villages,
    has spread to North-america.
Folks who up until now have been unaware of the growing threat of Islamic
terrorism, should receive more information, so that they will wake up and realize
that the Ultimate Goal of the Islam (as written in the koran) is:
“World Domination, to be achieved by fire and the sword. And then enforcing
the Sharia Law upon all people. Those who refuse to accept and convert
to the Islam are Infidels, who must be destroyed!”
Yes, we all have our personal problems and sadness to deal with.
Netherlands has been suffering from the recession during the past 5 years,
and this has gotten even worse lately, because we have been accepting thousands
of Middle-east and African refugees, and providing them with accomodation,
medical care, food and clothing. But nothing is worse that your freedom
being threated by terrorists, so that you are afraid to do even your simple
daily activites such shopping, or going to and coming from your work.
Last week the high court in The Hague sentenced 8 Jihadists to Life sentences
in a maximal security prison, for their crimes last month in The Hague including:
attacking citizens on the streets, breaking and entering chruches, synagogues, and shops, and threating our parliament members with beheadings!
Many other Jihadists, (including several family members) are expected to receive long prison sentences next week. All these Jihadist criminals will be
kept apart from other criminals, to stop the recruit of new Jihadists during
    their prison terms.
Now is the time that North- Americans and Europeans must start working together again, if our Western Civilization is to survive. It’s sad that Obama
and his party has practically forgotten Europe, but you folks in America
can restore the friendship and excellent relations we used to have with
pres. Reagan. You could contact a Republican party member for more
information about their plans restoration of friendship with your allies in Europe.

Thanks to our foolish leaders who have not understood islam and its war game. Use Local converts to islam by Mullahs to destroy own race and nation.

  • Cecil Henry

    One problem:

AFRICA FOR THE AFRICANS, ASIA FOR THE ASIANS, WHITE COUNTRIES FOR EVERYBODY??

“Diversity” means being chased out of your neighborhood.
“Diversity” means being chased out of your school.
“Diversity” means being chased out of your job.
“Diversity” Means Chasing Down the Last White Person.
    “Diversity” means White Genocide

    Nobody’s flooding Africa with Non-Africans
and giving them free health care, affirmative action and special privileges.

Only White Countries are doing it, only White children are affected, and only White politicians are allowing it.

THAT is the big crime here.

    • Sheik Yerbouti

The problem with this “mantra” is who you have spreading it. But I guess it had to start somewhere. Thanks to some impressive propaganda the general impression on the planet today is that ANY expression of pride in whiten people is instantly interpreted as racism.

That in itself is pure racism. Directed at the only group that everyone else can dump on with impunity, white people.

I see the validity of your message, but the team you selected will never be main stream enough for general acceptance by white Americans. They are just too “Klan-shy” and you folks skirt the Klan rhetoric pretty closely.

What white Americans need is indeed an advocacy group. But it has to be devoid of the klan or it will not make any progress. Retire the klown suits and modernize. It’s the only way. White Americans are under attack and need a real friend. Not just another agenda-pushing “party”.

Americans of ALL colors have NO friends in the US government.

    • rustyshucklfeurd

I, too, detest the so-called “diversity” police and multi-culturalism.
However, Cecil, you are way off base to think this is about skin color.
Our problems are not skin color – our problem comes from whacked out world views, values, and ideology.

An American is not a particular skin color – look at the color of this jihadist (he’s as white as can be) – Being an American is believing in American values – life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Being an American is believing that “all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights”. It is believing that these rights are not “granted” to us by a government or a piece of paper, but by God. Being an American is believing that we abide by our Constitution and by the rule of law.

I don’t know you, but I pray you stop seeing skin color and start seeing American values and a Judeo-Christian world view. That is what we need to promote and proclaim. Plenty of Americans of all skin colors have fought and died for our great American ideals.

Jessie Jackson, the “rev” Sharp are both race pimps and communists. They don’t believe in the rule of law or the Constitutional process. They are just two shake down artists. They have fooledlow-information people who have been duped into being dependent on government. This was caused by 60 years of the break down of families, demeaning of American values and work ethic, and multi-culturalism. And, there are plenty of people of white skin color who fall into that same category.

So, I don’t buy what you are selling, which is racism pure and simple, whether you see it that way or not.

    • Vinegar Hill

Your racist insinuations are repugnant. You also need to step into the 21st C. as you are living in the European colonial era. The world has moved on from your racist thoughts and economic and political globilasation has taken place. You are a dinosaur.

    • QV3

Not true. White men have exploited Africans for centuries. America became wealthy on the backs of Africans – treated as slaves.
Today, it is China that is helping Africa.
The US is doing what it has always done — terrorise with the gun.
So stop telling lies. Americans are good at that.
We of the world community are better informed.

      • tagalog

Uh, America didn’t become wealthy on the backs of slaves. Read your American history. I know that American history is frowned upon as a discipline in the universities, but it’s interesting on the issue of how American wealth was built. Not through slavery, I assure you.

          Don’t indulge in LIES.

          • rustyshucklfeurd

            QV3,
This PBS special, as well as a lot of “revisionist” history, are way off base when they claim that America “became wealthy on the backs of slaves”. It’s just not true. It may be true that SOME Americans became wealthy, but not the nation as a whole.

Slavery was detestable, an offense to the ideals we said we believed in, and a stain on our national character. What an utter tragedy that it took so many years to eradicate it from our shores, but you do injustice to millions of Americans who never took part in the practice and who built their farms, their towns, and their businesses without slave labor.

It was the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and the Bible that ignited the anti-slavery movement. Ultimately resulting in the nation splitting in two. And, yes, slavery was the aggravating issue that divided the country.

The Southern leadership wanted to expand slavery into the new states being formed out of the territories. They knew that if they couldn’t get new “slave” states added, that sooner or later, the slave-holding states would be outnumbered in Congress. They saw that as a threat. Since Lincoln was against expansion of slavery into the territories, when he was elected, the Southern leaders lead their states to leave the Union.

The infamous “3/5ths of a person” amendment in the Constitution was to LIMIT the slave holding states power. The slave owners wanted their slaves to be counted as full persons when it came to counting the population of their respective states – this would allow them more representatives in Congress. It was the anti-slavery abolitionists who lobbied against that idea and came up with the “3/5ths” of a person – again, to LIMIT the power of the slave states.

A lot of backs worked hard to create the wealth in America – Europeans, Africans, Asians, Hispanic, etc. Remember that only 3% of the population even owned slaves in the Southern states.

By the way, PBS is not a very trustworthy source for information on US history.

          • tagalog

Uh, YouTube videos and PBS TV websites aren’t exactly the kind of reading I had in mind.

Try “Roll, Jordan, Roll” by Eugene Genovese, or “Time On the Cross: The Economics of American Negro Slavery” and “Without Consent or Contract” by William Fogel and Stanley L. Engerman. Other worthwhile reads are “Arguing About Slavery” by William Lee Miller and “The Slave Trade” by Hugh Thomas.

But if you prefer the pablum version, by all means enjoy your TV and computer videos.

  • tagalog

Mr. Zehaf-Bibout, from his picture, doesn’t seem to know how to handle a rifle. No wonder he shot the Canadian soldier at point-blank range. He probably would have had trouble hitting him otherwise.

You put the rifle stock to your shoulder, Mikey, not hold it under your arm like a little girl or some movie actor. And then you use the stock to stablilize your head while you actually use the sights to aim.

Maybe it’s better if they don’t know.

  • StanleyT

In addition to murdering two Canadian soldiers, these two terrorists may also have killed all hopes milquetoast Justin Trudeau may ever have had of being elected Prime Minister. Stephen Harper has stood up against terrorists, siding strongly with those fighting them (Israel is a great example, his support for and joining with America in fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq a strong second). Trudeau believes Canada should not fight, but should provide “humanitarian aide”. Today, he looks like an idiot.

    • John Pallyswine

I am not on board with that. It may indeed propel Trudeau (“Water hole” in English) to victory.

The Madrid bombing occurred prior to the election that resulted in the victory by Zapatero ( shoemaker in English ). Prior to the explosion, Zappie was losing.

Canadians are a fine people but they do not have the warrior in them. They are not Americans.

  • http://libertyandculture.blogspot.com/ Jason P

Welcome to Front Page Magazine, Nichole. Thanks for focusing on the question of traveling to fight for ISIS. Geert has a good point. By law we may be unable to dispose of jihadi before they fight but once they join the enemy, we clearly should not allow them back.

Allowing jihadi to leave achieves several objectives. (1) They don’t kill here. (2) They may get killed there. (3) We can better infiltrate ISIS in a large group of recruits. The downside is that they help ISIS but that can be neutralized.

  • arishsahani

I know. I tried to push my initial reaction aside. Mustn’t jump to conclusions.

There is actually a push in our government to legislate, not only the removal of passport, but the revocation of Canadian citizenship from those Hyphenated-Canadians who travel to commit terror. This may actually pass now that the members have experienced violence firsthand.

    • Dan Knight

While I agree with you Squiggles, I wonder: Is Canada solid enough to revoke citizenship from terrorists? What I’m getting at is the long-term planning of the Left. Five or ten years from now, is it possible a Canadian traveling to say, Nigeria to provide medical aid to Christians, may have his citizenship revoked for helping ‘terrorists’ who are known to have [actually defended themselves from terrorists]?

  • Gloria Stewart

Neither Couture-Rouleau nor Zehaf-Bibeau were lone wolves. They had a leader on whose behalf they acted. The leader was the Prophet Mohammed, and what they did was normative Islamic behavior.
It is about time that the West woke up to the dead elephant in the middle of the living room. We are in a war with Islam – not radical Islam – there is only Islam. To distinguish between radical Islam and moderate Islam is liberal wishful thinking.
Ignore the people in CAIR Canada who shed crocodile tears and want to masquerade as patriotic Canadians. The only difference between CAIR Canada and Couture-Rouleau and Zehaf-Bibeau is the type of jihad they employ and the stage of that jihad they believe they are in.

Why is the readership being misinformed by Nichole Austin?
Zehaf-Bibeau was not on a list of high-risk travellers according to Canadian police, yet Austin states that he was.
There are at least 90 individuals known to Canadian security as high risk and Z-B is not one of them. The RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson described Zehaf-Bibeau as a Canadian-born petty criminal with possible dual Libyan citizenship.
What we have here is totally irresponsible reporting by NA. Despicable to say the least.

  • Dan Knight

Thank you Nichole for this report.Cpl. Cirillo is the same age as my middle child. Yes, I know I’m a “bigot” because I am really offended that he was murdered by someone who should have been taken off the streets. For the Useful Idiots – That’s Cloward-Piven. Demoralize, destabilize, crisis, normalize. Anti-murderers (or anti-any-evil) of course, have to demonized both to allow the plan to go forward, and to provide a suitable target for the last phase.

The goal is to upset enough of us by sparking outrageous incidents to increase ‘security.’ The security, whatever it is, destroys the normal, natural, and nurturing community built by the West. The ensuing crisis allows for normalization, which means targeting those who were previously demonized and dehumanized. In other words, the Left doesn’t just blame the victim – they blame the proponents of decency and civil society. This keeps the community off balance and unable to right itself (as in a ship listing). The hope is to capsize the ship and seize power.

In the meantime, the victims, like Cpl. Cirillo and his family are just ‘collateral damage’ on their road to their Utopia.
